I sideloaded the ICS ota. Tonight i was putting webtop 3.0 through its paces. Things started to run slow, a couple of apps forced closed. So i rebooted the phone. When it rebooted, webtop was gone. When i plugged it into my HD dock i had no option to enable webtop, just the other dock modes. Tried a hard reset, still the same thing. Anybody have any ideas how to get webtop working again? I just bought a lapdock so I'm hoping i can...

after spending 2 nights trying to figure out why HDMI mirroring was not working on my rooted droid x2 and was on my wife's rooted droid x2, i finally figured out that you can NOT freeze the PortalStandAlone.apk. that apk is needed for your HDMI out to work. if it's frozen, you have to unfreeze it, then reboot. HDMI out should then work.
i know others had issues with it not working. i'm sure this is the reason why.
Thanks! Didn't know that.
I just got a lapdock in the fire sale, and I had faux 2.2 enhanced stock kernel. The webtop top bar didn't work so I flashed the stock kernel and all was well for a day. And today, (no reboots since reflash), when I put it into the dock, for some reason any mouse click would act like I was minimize/reopen the mobile display no matter where I clicked. So I rebooted my phone to clear webtop from memory, and now going to webtop reboots my phone. Just cleared Dalvik and Cache, no dice. Again, I'm on stock kernel, removed setCPU etc... Going to flash webtop again, don't think it'll be help though.
Any suggests?
stock kernel is great to be listed, how about what ROM you're using too? any maybe any mods?
Webtop over hdmi hack, and a few frozen blur Apps. No roms. I don't think I have any other mods. It worked today for a few minutes but its doing it again. Reboots even if in webtop already.

My Atrix (stock deodexed) would reboot when i put it in the car charger and I had to revert the Webtop over HDMI hack to get it to work properly. If this doesn't work for you a logcat log would be helpful in determining what is crashing your phone.
Ill see. I can't do an eclipse logcat cause adj randomly disconnects from eclipse like 2 seconds after I connect from forceful connection refusal. Can't really do software testing with this issue... Can't really do it wired cause I gotta plug it into the dock... will try wirelessAdb. When I get home. Works fine with my car dock, still need to reflash webtop partition. But going to be so busy tonight...

Having the same problem as soon as I put my phone on the dock it reboots but it works just fine with the HDMI hack no reboots at all. Redoing my phone and webtop doesn't seen to fix it. So I'm thinking I'm just going to sell it if it keeps doing it.

I frequently get this problem too. I can usually reboot my phone and it'll work, but randomly it seems that when I place my phone in, it takes awhile and the phone will continually reboot until I pull it off the lapdock.
On Darkside 4.0 w/ darkside's stock kernel and Fruitcake webtop 2.3.5.
Mine will continually reboot as soon as you get to the FP reader if you leave it on the dock after the first crash and reboot. It seems random. Still trying to get a logcat log through adbWireless.
Also right now trying to figure out how to compile a tun.ko module for the stock kernel - i've never done kernel work. Not sure where to get the aosp kernel? There's not really any instructions on it

Just had the strangest thing happen. After the latest crash I was going to try starting over from scratch(again), but when I went into root explorer then usr to set the start-oshwt-2.sh file back to normal the folder was empty no sub folders at all. After a few restarts everything came back.

This happens to me sometimes. I haven't found a good fix for it since I've been playing around with so many different ROMs and webtop hacks lately. The best I've found is to open the webtop screen right after I open the webtop program. Clunky, I know, but it hasn't failed me yet.
I find that I must open the dock after it gets into multimedia dock mode. Which takes up to 30 seconds. I must also undock when it returns to media node, assuming it doesn't reboot.

Hey, so I don't know what's going on with my droid x2. I went to do a nanoid so I can flash the new eclipse rom since I was on CM7. Anyways after I do the backup and restart the phone, it seems like it has a mind of its own, pressing buttons, typing things all by itself.
I don't know, it kind of feels like i'm being hacked or my phone is being taken over. So I go to sbf back to 2.3.4 stock and after all that, it's still going nuts.
Has anyone had this problem before? How can I fix this issue.
Mine did the same thing a few months back after a nandroid. I tried everything including several SBFs. Had to return it for a new one.

Damn, I wonder what happened, were you also on CM7?
I just formatted the internal card and it seems to have fixed this.

No, this was pre CM7. I was switching between Eclipse and some other ROM I can't remember and nandroided back to Eclipse... everything went haywire after that. The phone was essentially doing what it wanted on it's on. I tried everything. Wiped my card, formatted it, SBF'd... nothing I did fixed it.

You DID wipe all data as well (factory reset, cache and dalvik cache)? Even after you SBF, you should always wipe data/factory reset, etc. I do it before I SBF, but you can go into the factory recovery and do a data wipe there.
I just came from CM7 back to Eclipse and never had that issue.
Ive had this happen to me a few times. It happened right after I flashed cm7 and miui. I just left the phone alone for a bit, pulled it battery, rebooted and it was fine.

I could be (humility ha ha) humidity. But I had exactly the same symptoms following a restore. I trashed that BU and did an earlier one I was ok.
I had the same thing happen a while back. I was running cm7 and for some reason or another (don't remember why), wanted to restore a nandroid for Liberty. Did the restore and everything went nuts once I was booted into Liberty. I know exactly what you mean. I didn't even have to touch the screen to make things happen. I'd try to open something but my fingers just getting close to the screen would open whatever they got close to. Anyway, I tried rebooting several times and it made no difference. In the end, I flashed the Liberty nandroid again and things were good after that. Strange stuff.
my old blackberry did that. super annoying, sometimes couldn't even send a text.
Hello everyone, this is my first post here so I want to thank everyone in advance for the help. I've never needed to post here because my questions were always answered by someone else's post. But this time I'm in a whole different boat.
Long story short. Found a Droid razr on Craigslist. Owner mentioned it would power up but stay locked on boot. He sold it cheap to me. I figured I could easily do a hard reset and I would be good. Nope. Not the case.
I attempted a hard reset, razrutility, rdslite and nothing has worked. When flashed using rsdlite, it runs its course and then notifies the phone to reboot and low and behold, the phone still gets stuck on boot where it says "Droid". I need help!!!!

Anyone?
You might want to try the two different versions of DroidRAZRUtility. IIRC, 1.6 is for GB bootloaders and 1.7 is for ICS leak bootloaders. Perhaps your phone was upgraded to a leak (unsuccessfully), is now stuck halfway through the ICS update, and needs to be wiped before you can do the real update and get it running.
I found the guide in my signature very useful.
I have a little bit different story with the same problem. I was testing XT912 boards and LCD/Digitizer assemblies. This board was the one I knew to be working. I tested a 3 or 4 LCD/Dig. assemblies without any problem. I then rebuilt the phone entirely, and powered it on. It starts to go through the power up cycle but stops on "Droid". I did a recovery wipe and factory reset and it still does the same thing. My PC acknowledges the phone is connected, but nothing else can be found connected on the PC; Moto DM, Motocast, not even my com ports. I have a feeling I inadvertingly shorted the board, but this is strange...any ideas?
Hi Everyone!
I'm new here, however I've been lurking for a week here and everywhere trying to fix and come up with solutions to my problems. Hopefully I can get some help or ideas as I'm going nuts over this.
Please let me know if this isn't the right place or if there's a thread with the info, I've tried to find as much as I can understand on my own first.
I have a XT912 I got almost 2 years ago from Verizon. I've never rooted it, but I did enable developer mode and use PDANet+ to tether USB to my computer as a backup internet connection for emergencies. I need it for work, I'm oncall 24/7, linux sysadmin, I need access to datacenters. I also need my phone to work 100%, Work needs to be able to reach me anytime.
3 months ago in May the battery life was suddenly not lasting the whole day, so I got a Maxx battery on amazon, genuine and installed it myself. My phone is not a Maxx, but it fix and worked flawlessly for 3 months, no issues. An odd thing is in About it says the phone is a DROID RAZR MAXX which I don't think it did before but I'm not sure. The battery only has + and - so can it detect that its a higher capacity battery and determine that the phone is now a Maxx? Perhaps this caused the issues below 3 months later?
We were on a trip for the weekend, I tested my tether and had internet just to make sure, then didn't use it again. I did have my data turned on more than normal to check Wunderground radar a lot for rain. I believe I left it on over night as well, which I normally do not. Perhaps Verizon pushed an update overnight because it was accessible? I don't know if that happened and the version in about is 4.1.2 now.
The next day the freezing started. The screen will freeze on different things, some as simple as the home screen, others during an incoming or outgoing call starting, text, kitchen timer, etc. Sometimes the screen will still work a little in the background but touch is completely unresponsive. I have to hard or soft reboot it. This happens 2-4 times everyday. However the rest of the day it works perfectly and runs great!
When I later went to use my USB to backup the phone it did not work and has not worked at all. I have 2 cables, both previously worked. I have 2 laptops that both were setup and worked with the drivers and USB and PDANet+ tethering. Both do not detect the USB at all, it only charges, there are no devices in Windows 7 device manager at all. I've removed, reinstalled the drivers, rebooted phone and computer, different USB ports, etc.
I've worked out that I can take a family member's upgrade and get a new phone now. I'm looking at the Droid Maxx at Verizon since it has the biggest battery and should be similar to what I already have. Mini looks nice but I'd rather have the battery.
Questions
Could the battery change have caused the software to change the phone name to Maxx, freeze, and break USB 3 months later?
Could the phone have updated to 4.1.2 overnight and broke these things?
Would a factory reset or installing a previous version help?
If I get a Droid Maxx from Verizon with the available upgrade, can I put the SIM card into it from my current XT912 AND swap it back and forth between them? (I want to do this if I root either or both phones I can keep one working and as a backup in the future)
Is the Droid Maxx currently at Verizon a good candidate to root? I'd only like to root so that I can make a backup of the phone OS in case something like this happens again. I'd like to understand and setup my own backups of my data and apps AND test that I can wipe and restore them (I'm a sysadmin, I like backups and testing restores). I'm having trouble understanding the rooting process from this perspective, so if there's any docs explaining this better I'd love to know.
Is the Droid Maxx a good candidate for PDANet+ tethering again? The site says my current phone should work with its version 4.1.2 but I have no USB at all right now to tether over.
On another note, I'd like to have a spare phone plan that I would normally not use, only in emergencies. I'm looking for something that's the cheapest, most prepaid seem to have catches or monthly fees. Data would be ideal if I could tether it for emergency on a prepaid plan too, but I'm not finding any cheap solutions such as $100 or less total a year (not including the cost of minutes and data should I need to use it in an emergency)
tl;dr 2 year old Droid Razr with battery upgraded to Maxx battery 3 months ago suddenly freezing and usb connection completely not detected or working. Looking into new Verizon Droid Maxx, rooting for purpose of backing up and restoring as well as rooting old phone. Possibly having another backup cheap phone depending on costs. Any help, suggestions, thoughts?
update got new phone
The phone is freezing more frequently even just on pressing the power button to get to unlock screen. I used an upgrade to get a new Verizon Droid Razr Maxx xt1080. It comes with an SIM card already in it, so all we did was enter my Google account to sync contacts and left it stock for now.
I plugged it into my computer with my old cable and the USB works, no changes, no dev. So the old Razr USB is completely not working for some reason.
I was told that I can go on the Verizon website and switch my number back to my old phone fairly instantly. I'll try this tonight and look into rooting the new phone and getting backups all setup.
