I'm sorry if I'm going full retard here, but what does the MTD stand for in the FascinateMTD ROMs? I'm at a loss.
Since it runs on the Mtd/yaffs format here's the definition for each acronym
YAFFS (Yet Another Flash File System) was designed and written by Charles Manning, of Whitecliffs, New Zealand, for the company Aleph One.
Memory Technology Device (MTD) Subsystem for Linux. A generic subsystem for handling memory technology devices under Linux

Ah, it's the file system, not an acronym. Thanks man!

MTD isn't a file system is a partition map. YAFFS is the file system.

I'm getting a Toshiba TG01 for free from a friend tomorrow.
He says it is a prototype.
So, now I'm wondering if I can get a working decent build of android on it. I'm coming here with only HTC Dream experience. I'd like to know how Android is doing on this phone. Is it possible to somehow dual boot it? Just in case something doesn't work on Android and does on WM?

Hi
Now it finally works - I mean the download android_tg01_1.7z
And I also managed to download a second file android_tg01_3.rar
which extract to ...tg01_2
Now android starts on my TG01
Android 2.2.1 Kernel 2.6.32.15
But nevertheless the wifi don´t work - and that is what I am looking for.
( I have a device that connects to a android wifi, or Iphone wifi)
what a pity
best regards
Bernd
Usually whatever is on git it's source code.
And if you don't know what build is, you don't know how to build
But never mind, seems like you found the built files.

WLAN don´t work with android
I quit my attempt for TG01 and android wifi.
Markinus, who is AFAIK the expert, mention 25th September 2011, that WLAN an BT don´t work.
And his last entry in GITORIOUS was September 17 2011.
So I don´t think Android and wifi work on the TG01.
In Android wifi is part of the kernel, and has a driver and a firmware IIRC, so thats triple the porting.

I wonder if there's anything special about this one since it's a prototype...
Looks like if I'm gonna be doing any Android building, I'm gonna be stuck with Froyo for now.
For Gingerbread (2.3.x) and newer versions, including the master branch, a 64-bit environment is required. Older versions can be compiled on 32-bit systems.

Is there any someone can recommend?
I also would love to know what the radio version means. Do I need to flash certain radios also?

There are no ROM for flash, because there was no bootloader for TG01. Only the SD-card mount version.
No nand android for TG01.:victory:

Well that clears up a ton.
So how exactly do I go about running ROMs from the sd card? Does the guide in "TG01 development" apply?
It says that it describes how to "flash" :/

1. Download the Android Build zip file.
2. Unzip the file and copy the whole Android folder to your Micro SD Card. Remember - copy the WHOLE folder not the content of the folder.
3. Start the File Explorer and go to the Android folder on your SD Card. Start CLRCAD.exe, then start Haret.exe and click on the "Run" button.

Yes, I did this. Got a MODE CM 00000 error or similar.
And now CLRCAD is no longer executable xD
I'm gonna put Android off for later, because I have another big programming contest going on right now.
Once I'm done with that, imma build my own Android.
Also, I was asking about windows ROMs.

Oh, I don't know you are asking about WM. (Or WP?)
I think this link can help you. (maybe)
About the CLRCAD, there will nothing happen after you tap it, you just tap it is ok.
About the error, maybe you can format you SD-card and try again.
Hello,
I would like to understand a bit more about samsung partitioning scheme.
In particular I would like to know how kernel image and recovery (cwm) are packed togheter.
Suppose I cross compile my custom kernel image, then how can I add cwm to it ?
Thank you a lot !

Well, despite I'm still interested in this question, maybe I can reformulate it more generally..
Can someone please tell me about the "theory" and provide me information about image format?
I can try to find out how to produce such image in practice by myself if someone could kindly point me to some documentation...
Thanks you

I think you can use the same commands as on newer kernels, because xrecovery supports update-script as well as the newer formatting known as our common updater-script.
Basicly, all you need to know is the 'mount' command, the 'package_extract' command, the 'symlink' command , the 'ui_print' command and the 'set_perm' command.
PS.: You can always ask me with that sort of question, if you want .

You using dxixdas droid-kitchen (just asking)?
With xrecovery, it really doesn't matter, because it supports both formats. Personally, I think the edify formatting is easier to write, and it supports more recovery versions. The amend formatting only supports older recovery versions, it won't work on newer ones (at the moment, cwm 5.X is the newest recovery for our device, I think), and it is more difficult to write.
Shall I maybe release a complete guide in the dev section(s)?

Hi guys,
I am new in this. I have downloaded all the files that bizcuite mentions (I think). One of my questions is, is the zlmage file the same as the kernel file. If not where can I download the kernel?
When I try to install the zlmage the archos says that it couldn't find any zlmage, while I have put in on the internal sd card. Also I get the question to put in the last disk because it is a zip file.
I hope someboy can help me. I have been reading as much as I could find in this forum, but it won't work.
Thank you.
Regards,
Nino
I bet you didnt reach as much as you could. zImage is the kernel file and it has to be renamed from "zImageBLABLABLA.zip" to "zImage" without extension or something else like a date of the build etc. You have to put it inside the recovery not inside the SD card.

What do you think is better on the Archos 101 G8, Urukdroid or ICS based on CM.
Thanks again

Hi guys,
I have downloaded all the files as mentioned in the manual. Have installed the zlmage and initramfs.
Then I have put on the root of the internal sd card the image of ICS and renamed it, copied also the ICS 512 mb(data.img.tar.gz) file and have made the .lst file. (all done through the update firmware menu)
Still I think I am doing something wrong because when I go out (push the on button as confirmation to update) of the update firmware menu it gives me a failed to update firmware message.
Hope you can help me.
Sorry for my ignorance.
Thank you.
Nino
