Hello all,
I've been reading this forum for quite a while now, but never registered to post. I was wondering if anyone else's TP died suddenly?
I managed to get my grubby hands on one two days ago at one of our local Best Buy's, and was loving the tablet for the amount of time it worked.
Out of the box, I charged it, installed the 3.02 update, and Preware. I then disabled logging, overclocked it to 1.5 ghz, installed suggested tweaks to speed it up, and a handful of useful applications off of preware.
I also installed the hulu fix off of the preware alpha release channel.
With all of these installed, I had a pretty speedy device that responded quickly and worked great as a browsing device, media player, email client, etc.
This afternoon, I was browsing on another forum, when the TP suddenly froze, and then turned itself off. It did not respond to charging, connecting to a computer, or the hard reset trick (center and top buttons held down). I also tried the instructions on how to unbrick the TP, and they did not work. WebOS doctor also didn't find it because it wasn't being recognized by the computer.
I called HP support, and the agent took 55 minutes to determine that it was totally dead -- eliminating the charger, LCD backlight, and low battery as problems. We tried a couple of resets, and they all failed. HP is sending me a box to ship it back to them for warranty service.
Has something similar happened to anyone else? Hopefully they won't disqualify it for Preware and tweaks being on it, if they ever get it booted. I'm hoping that I'm not SOL, because I don't know if I will be able to get my hands on one anymore.

i spoke to an hp rep before the touchpads were killed off and they said that they have no issues with preware being installed and that they will not kill the warranty on it.

Thanks, that is reassuring. It seems like developer mode is quite easy to access, so I'm hoping they aren't too strict on modifications.
It wouldn't make sense for them to do that. Its not like you rooted it, just some widely used homebrew.

I was reading in another forum that there are issues with the chargers that come slightly apart during shipping (I guess they separate to allow different ends) and if that is not secure it will not charge... and since it does not charge when its plugged into the PC uses were thinking their touchpads had died.
after the hard reset do you push power on and volume up to get into developer mode for the webdoctor?

I checked to make sure the prong part had not come off of the barrel -- this was not the problem, but thanks for the idea. The battery was showing 80% before the tablet froze and turned itself off.

Yes I did, but neither the hard reset nor the developer mode seemed to take.
It's off to TRC today to El Paso, TX by 2nd day UPS air. I got a UPS box in the mail this morning, took really good pictures of the tablet's pristine condition before sending, and then packed and sent it as instructed.
Sounds like some bad luck. I have the same setup on mine, with the exception that I'm running Warthog's 1.7ghz OC, and I haven't had any troubles.
I wonder how long it will take to get your replacement? I'd appreciate it if you kept this thread updated with how the return process goes.

I'll certainly keep the thread updated with how the return progresses.
So far, it's been two days since I called and the rep determined that it needed to go in for service. I received an empty box via UPS this morning, and it looks like it's going to a 3rd party service center in Texas.
any word back yet?
I am also interested. Be sure to let us know how it goes.
I'm also interested in this, do you think they'll be able to tell you overclocked it?
maaaan, think this has happened to mine just last night. it was on about 18% battery, I shut it down iirc, plugged it in to charge and I went to sleep. today it seems to be as dead as yours was
Mines stock though, all I've done was the 3.02 update a week or so ago.
EDIT: Solved thanks to this thread, just had to hold power + home for about 25 seconds and it came back to life.
No updates yet -- I called HP last week, and all the rep was able to say was that there is a 7-10 day processing/repair time, and they could not give any information within that period. Tomorrow will be the 11th business day since they received it, so I'll try to give them a call in the afternoon and see what's up. If I don't get a chance to call them tomorrow, I will on Tuesday.
I returned mine last Friday but they told me the estimated turn around time would be 3 to 5 business days. I'll update when I get it back.
I called HP yesterday (12th business day), and all they could tell me was that it was still under repair. They could not tell me when it would be done, but told me they would keep me up to date (which I doubt).
On another note, it seems like HP's reps (at least the WebOS Butler line I've been calling) seem to barely function in English. I really don't mind when tech support people have a strong accent, but the last two reps I talked to could barely communicate what was going on with my Touchpad or take down any information I have them. The second to last rep actually used the word "negro" to verify the "N" in my email address.
Mine died today too. OCed with Warthog to 1.5. Yesterday before it died, battery was all the way to 0% but it was charging and i got it to turn on. It was charging all night on the dock. Today when i got home, it just completely died. Did the entire troubleshooting with HP support and determined that its completely dead. They are sending a box for me to return for a repair.
is it really safe to overclock then?
warthog, f4 and f15 are for beta testing purpose.
when you install one of these, you accept the risks.
only uberkernel is a public kernel that OC the touchpad without risks.
I got my Touchpad back today! It looks like I think I got a refurbished one, since the serial number on the device (in the sim-like slot) isn't the same as on my original box.
However, it seems to be working nicely.
It ended up taking much more than the promised 7-10 turnaround time HP promised, but I do have a touchpad again. There was no sort of report or invoice in the box, so I do not know that happened with the old one that caused it to shut off and not turn back on again.
I don't know if they ever restored power to the old one, so I don't know if HP knew I had preware on it and that it was overclocked to 1.5 ghz, but there is no indication that HP had a problem with my old tablet I sent it.

Got my Woot G Tab today. On opening the box, picking up the unit, I heard a loud click as if the case had just snapped shut. And it was on. Showing a pond with leaves falling through it and the occasional waterdrop. Actually very nice but is that the stock background? As an adroid noob, I dl'd the manual etc. and read them.
Mainly I tried to set up the wifi to get really going. Followed instructions and it said it recognized the network. Wifi on. However, the wifi symbol has a "!" in it and when I try to get the web is says network unavailable?
So I am stuck and wondering if I got a lemon. Or a hacked return. Or a permanently semi bricked refurb.
Appreciate some guidance. I don't want to send it back, I want it to work.
The background you got with the pond is the default on the shipped gtabs from the woot sell.. At least mine was that way. Its odd that it didn't offer the set up tutorial like if you do a fresh flash.
If you go to settings and click on the wireless settings you can access you wifi network and set up your pass code to connect to your wifi.
Woot Tabs
Looks like when the factory loaded the extra apps on there (Angry Birds, et al) they put it on the classic screen by default but there is no set up tutorial that runs on them.
Unless you see scratches/smudges on the one you got it is likely new.
You get it on the network?
yeah
just as the others said the falling leaf pond is the norm atleast for the wooters. did you try moving closer to the wifi router? my tablet doesnt seem to have great range and only barley picks up my singal where the same place my netbook has no problems.
Hi all. I just got a response from woot. I emailed them saying that my Gtab had a DLINK wifi profile set up out of the box. I told them I had thought I ordered a new unit. here was their response.
The item should have been new. We will have a replacement sent to you. Please use the return label below to send back the item that does not appear to be new.
Mine was new. But thats because I was too impatient to wait for mine to arrive and went a bought one at my loacal sears, then returned the new one woot sent.
It would certainly seem that a lot of these woot tabs are returned models, considering the amount of trouble some are having just getting them to boot after flashing a custom ROM that's been tried successfully by a few thousand people to date.
There is some qustionable stuff going on with some of the Woot orders. Some had different Wi-Fi APs in the list like Staples, etc. Many, like mine, had dead pixels.
The custom rom issues could be because of 10,000+ noobs
In all of the Woot has been quick to return.
My Woot special was pre-configured to associate with any SSID named DLINK and NETGEAR. I assume this is just typical? The second I associated with my own WPA2 AP, it downloaded an update.
I went ahead and flashed the VEGAn-Tab 1.0 Beta 5.5.1 firmware. Other than some Market issues (which I plan on addressing shortly), the thing screams and works flawlessly. Looks like a new unit to me, but could have been a barely used unit that was returned.
God knows I bought a very, physically defective one (misaligned microSD slot and other, physical defects) from Sears last year for $100 more. This one was in far, far more mint condition than that one, which was supposed to be new.
Absolutely no complaints here. The unit is solid, and the firmware goes on just fine. Followed instructions (although people newer to concepts of mounting/ejecting media and other "proper" usage might need substeps) and didn't have any issues with putting VEGAn-Tab on it.
I had the same screen. When I rebooted, I THEN got the setup. Weird. I played with the stock rom for a little bit, then I went ahead and loaded vegan. Waaaay faster. Amazon Appmarket is nice. Playing with Angry Birds Rio and Weatherbug Elite. Most importantly, this is a great tablet to surf the net on. I have no idea how a person could surf at an obtuse angle comfortably, so the viewing angle is basically a non-issue. Totally worth it for $285.
OTA bricked mine.
The one I got was in apparently brand new condition (at least cosmetically).
Booted but no tutorial offered. Hooked to WiFi and it downloaded the OTA update. I played with it for few minutes, tried to run AngryBirds but it did not run (nothing displayed), weird.
Then I let it apply OTA. It rebooted to recovery, flashed the update than rebooted again, got thorough initial 2 boot screens then black out (literally). I could force it reboot, but no luck. At this point it also did not show up as a USB storage drive (should it through recovery? normal boot was hang so I did not expect it).
So I could not force update through a USB but instead grabbed TnT Lite 4.4.0 and recovered from SDCard2 (externally plugged). Works fine now.
Possibly was messed up in factory.
When I got mine it booted strait to the launcher, which had the water and leaf background on it. It seems in brand new condition, everything was flawless. The screen had no fingerprints, the manual and all the other information was packaged as it should be, the screen protector was un-opened, and the cables were packaged as new. When I put it on my network it prompted for an update, at which time I Installed a different rom. I did not check the to see if it had any other wifi info saved before I blew it away. I have even opened it up, every screw was in place, no fingerprints were anywhere on the inside to be seen, and the screws had no sign of being marked up on the head. If it is a refurb or return they did an excellent job, but I highly doubt it is.

I would guess thats spot on.
Anyway, I have no doubt in my mind that my tablet was new.
My Experience Similar
My unit also started in classic. I manually set up WiFi without difficulty. Once connected it quickly went into the OTA update. When I rebooted it went into the new unit startup described in the Quick Start Guide. It certainly appears to be new, but it did raise the question.
It works great so far. I am trying to decide whether to root now or let it burn in for awhile in case of hardware issues.
Mine booted to the water launcher as well on first boot up, with Angry Birds, Color Note, etc on the home screen. Then I installed the OTA update and when I rebooted, that is when I got the setup wizard.
Since it seems this is pretty common across units, I would assume that it is not due to being a refurb, otherwise there would be differences. But, while these may not be refurbs, but they were definately taken out of the box and "setup" by someone.

This was also my experience as well. No fingerprints anywhere, box was shrink wrapped, cables were factory twist ties. I have no doubt that mine was new.
After the OTA update the preinstalled apps were gone, including the pond background, three short sample videos (king kong preview, indy cars, two animals), some sample songs including fur elise, also color note, angry birds and amazon market. There was also a dlink wifi setting that went missing after the update but still don't think it was a refurb. This thing is a fingerprint magnet, no way there wasn't even a partial on it or a speck of dust somewhere if it had been repackaged. Imho.
woot order vs tigerdirect order
I bought one from woot and then one from tigerdirect the day after. Booted them up next to each other and they were identical. The one from tiger came first and within 2 days so there would be no way they would have had time to resell it if they bought it from woot. They are now on sale at tiger so these may have been a huge woot purchase, but I do not believe mine was, considering how fast it came.
Mine seems to be brand new and works fine. After all Woot said it was new Charged up, activated wireless and played around a bit, no problem. Been playing angry birds far too much. May try to mod it when I can find all the info and know I'm not missing anything. Otherwise I don't think it is as horrible as one would be led to believe.

woot tends to sell a whole range of things, from brand new to refurbished. that is how they can get so many and sell them for so cheap. refurbished CAN be better than brand new, btw. whatever breaks first is fixed and then it is reshipped as refurbed.
Apps disappeared, classic different...

I got mine on Friday. Charged it for 4+ hours, fired it up and the launcher
took me to classic with a bunch of apps already installed as in the quote above.
I get a notice for OTA, which it goes through. I reboot and I'm still back to the same classic screen as when I first fired up the tablet (before OTA). I checked and it indeed flashed the new version (3588). Saturday, I don't spend too much time with it except for a half hour of angry birds. Sunday night, I turn it on: classic now doesn't look the same, some of the apps (as mentioned in quote above) have disappeared. WTH happened?

I had to re d/l the apps but someone posted how to find the pond background again. Long press on classic home (anywhere there isn't an icon) a menu pops up. Select wallpaper, then select live wallpaper. There are several you can choose from including the elusive water/pond. I was happy that it wasn't overwritten even tho it sucks the bottom out of my battery LOL you can almost see the sides collapsing as the juice is drawn out of it
This weekend I upgraded to the Photon 4G for $99 at Best Buy (gotta love Labour day weekend offers).
I'm moving from an HTC Evo 4G. The first problem is the worst. Since picking up the Photon 4G I have had to pull the battery 5 times as the phone refuses to wake... With the HTC if I had an issue I could reboot by holding down the power and volume button, but the Photon doesn't seem to have this feature, so I'm forced to remove the back cover and pull the battery...
I don't seem to be able to re-create the issue. Its just happens without notice... Anyone else having this issue? Is their an easier way to coax the phone back to life rather than pulling the battery?
The second issue is the screen. Every single review I have read has said that the screen is a Photon 4G strong point... I'm not convinced... Yes it is bright and vivid, but I seem to have an annoying grey criss cross pattern all over the screen. I'm not sure if its my eye's (the GF says she can see it too) but I was expecting the screen to look better than both my EVO and Xoom... This annoying grey criss cross gauze (especially visible on white backgrounds) is disappointing..
What do others think? Colour gradients also appear to band very easily, rather than being smooth.. I'm not sure if this is a result of compression in pictures tho...
Other than that, I am happy with the phone. Big improvement over the EVO 4G i had befor, just a screen I have to get used too, and this un-responsive issue to fix...
Oh, and having to get used to Motorola's Android button layout and Standard Android icon changes is a little painful at times...
Swap out for new one for wake problem. Turn brightness down to 30 percent and screen is fine. Had all top HTC phones and this beats all.....keep this phone....
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I get that sometimes, but fail to replicate at the store. Store employees will only recommend to wipe the phone.
The pentiles pixelation is only noticeable when your face is extremely close to screen. Its a cell phone not a tv display lol, stop holding it so close and you'll be fine! Im on my first phone with no issues yet; just to be on the safe side i would swap for a new device.

Actually, the sale has been going on for close to 3 weeks now. Sorry you are having issues, have you tried a factory reset then not install any apps (or not many) for a couple days to see if it was one of them?
An opinion......
I try to avoid the Sprint stores as much as possible. There are some knowledgeable reps out there but it is a small percentage. Most of them don't know much about the devices. Call the Sprint support number first and try troubleshooting with them. In my experience, they are better at going the distance to make the customer happy than the peeps in the stores especially if you keep on them about it.
Sounds like a swap out is needed. Good luck.
Go back to BB and try to swap it out for another one. Had my photon for about 3 weeks now and never had this issue
I have to agree it sounds like a hardware issue and merits a swap. I've had the photon 2 1/2 weeks and have only had to pull the battery once.
Mine has been freezing and needing a battery pull every day. I went through Sprint VIA phone and they sent me to the store. The Technician actually researched it and it is a know software issue that will be fixed when the next OTA software update is released. I went from the silent call issues to my phone turning off/freezing and I don't even know that its not working. Not happy at all right now
I've just got back from Best buy after my phone refused to wake up again for the second time today.... I let them try and get it turned back on again which they couldn't do without pulling the battery... Either way they immediately confirmed they'd swap it out. Until she went to pull one and realised they are all out
My replacement arrives Friday when they get restocked.... Best Buy must have sold loads since Friday because their shelf was piled pretty high when i picked mine up...
So hopefully the new one will work properly, or maybe I'm just plagued until the next OTA...
As to everyone who gave me suggestions about the screen... you were right. Turning down the screen brightness pretty much solved the issue all together and I think I am officially used to it now...
Just wish i could get my EVO 3D ringtone , Alarm and notifications on the Motorola. I grew more attached to them, than I thought

OK, I did not think that it could be my SD card causing the issues with the phone freezing up and needing a battery pull to get it back on but the Technician asked me if it was a new card or from another phone. I said It was from two or three phones ago. They said that I should format the card because the files from the older phones can cause problems such as this, after copying my photos over to the computer to be able to put back on the card afterwards of course. They had left my SD card out of the phone. So to test things, I haven't put my SD card back in since two days ago. My phone has not restarted or frozen up once. I will give it some more time and report back, but in the mean time, until there is an OTA fix, if you are using an SD card from another (previous) phone, and your having the freezing/power down/restart issues, you may want to give formatting your SD card or removing it to test if it fixes the problem a shot. Good luck, so far so good.
I've not used an SD card at all since purchasing my Photon. On the Plus side, it has not stopped working at all so far today
Had the same problem when I bought my 2nd photon this time at best buy becuase of the $99 deal.
On the 1st one i got directly from a sprint corp store, no issues at all. But this one on the 1st day I got a reboot issue. second day got the SOD. went in they had some trouble getting it on. Had to tell them to take the batt out and it went on. My problem was that they had none available. so for 3 days I waited.
Funny thig is that I wasn't getting the SOD again. Just didn't want to chance it so got another one, yesterday. Happy today.
There were no motorola photon availble in my area. So they are selling.
Good luck with yours.
OK it's not the sd card causing the issues. It's back to freezing up 1-9 times per day and then I need to do a battery pull and restart the phone. Motorola wants the phone back to repair it. This should be a great Two weeks and if the phone is not fixed, I will lose it........ For sure

Ok, if this information is correct from Sprint, I know why I am having all these problems with mine freezing up and after having done several hard resets and many calls to Sprint and a visit to the service center with no fix. Apparently there was a batch of Photons that got shipped with corrupt firmware. When the phone uses that portion of the firmware, as a safe mode, it freezes. There is no fix other than replacement with a non effected phone. They ordered me a new one, that I will get on Tuesday. The only way they can correct it until there is an OTA patch is to send it back to Motorola. Wish me luck with this one
Update....
So here is the update....
5 Days of Ownership - A total of 9 shutdowns of the phone with the only way to get it turned back on again was by pulling the battery. On the 9th time, I went directly to Best Buy to show them. They agreed without question to replace it. Unfortunately they had sold out so I had to wait 2 more days for the next shipment. Gotta say Best Buy were excellent tho. I had 1 further shutdown before getting my brand new replacement.
3 Days of brand new replacement Photon 4G ownership - I am disappointed to say that I have had 1 shutdown so far and this was on the second day. Not sure if I want to Jinx myself but the shutdown rate is lower in the first 3 days than it was with my original.
But it's looking more and more like it's a bug in software than hardware. Either that or I get the DUD from two completely separate batches of phones.

Well, I got my brand new replacement yesterday at the Milton Massachusetts Sprint Repair Center and as of yet no shut-down, or freeze-ups. I have my fingers crossed here on this one. If not I will be reprogramming another new one soon. They did assure me that this is not affecting every Photon, but there was a large batch released with this corrupt firmware. Its like a waiting game to see if its a dud or not. I do love this phone, and I am getting tired of setting up these phones over and over again, but on a good note, I can completely customize my phone and all my apps in about thirty minutes from activation
I got my ATP today!!! Ordered it back in December. For the first hour it worked great, then I got a notice to up date firmware... I assume it was the Android 4, Ice Cream Sandwich update. I allowed it and ever since then my screen will just go crazy after about 10 minutes of use. If I turn it off and back on, it works again for a few minutes.
Also having problems with wifi but not major, every time I turn it on, or wake it up, I have to turn the wifi off and back on.
But right now the screen issue is big and I am not tech savy enough to figure this out. I found this site on a google search.
Can anyone help?
I did a reset to factory defaults, but it did not undo the ICS.
Is it similar to this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437280
Unfortunately, mine has that problem so I had to return it.
Seriously? Did you get another? I've been waiting so long and I doubt any stores have them in stock. I can't see the link, but mostly it looks like stirpes across the screen, but them it just gets worse and goes kind of crazy.
Oddly, it's only with some programs, some of my games work fine, but online issues are a problem.
Quality control strikes again or lack there of sorry bro return for refund.

Sorry, I posted the wrong url. But I did place an order from hhgregg when they were selling for $399, waiting for it to get here now.
Actually Best Buy is replacing it immediately. I'm on the way to the store, BUT not sure they have it in stock, said they have 250 in the warehouse, and will ship asap if the store does not have it. I called the store, they said the computer says it is there, but no guarantee I'll post back. May not do the ICS right away. I was wondering why I can't just do another firmware update, but I can't figure it out. Thought about calling the geek squad but I may talk to them at best buy when I get there if they don't have one.
Sounds weird, but other than the screen issue (which is only sometimes) I really like the unit. I'm just anxious to get it going.
UPDATE
Hey, I got to Best Buy yesterday to return my ATP, and happened to be talking to someone from the Geek Squad. She helped me do a hard reset (not the factory one in the set up page) and when the computer reset, it uploaded the Android Ice Cream Sandwich again. I stayed in the store for about an hour and it worked fine. Its been 24 hours so far and no problems.
The hard reset she did was to hold the power button down with the volume down button at the same time for 10 sec's or so. After it reset, it told me it had a firmware update (again) I figured nothing to lose so let it run.
Very happy so far if anyone has this problem, It really was an easy fix.
Here's a copy of the letter I sent to Asus...
I have been using Asus products since my first socket A board and have been a partner since 2008. I have always had faith and trust in Asus products and recommend them to all my friends and customers. My own system contains £1000 worth of Asus parts (Z77 Sabertooth, Xonar DX2, 2 x GTX 580, DVD-RW) and I use Asus motherboards for ALL my customer builds.
However I feel badly let down with the TF201 I purchased on 27/01/12 ) My TF201 has been very unreliable, constant crashes and reboots as well as the seemingly usual light bleed/ GPS problems. I have lived with it, hoping that it was purely a firmware issue that would get resolved. (I ignored all the bad comments in forums, believing that Asus would NOT ship faulty products) There have been times where my TF201 has been stable for short periods. The last couple of weeks it has got worse, with terrible battery drain, loss of wifi (I can only turn on wifi after a reboot). Last night the device would not stay on the home screen for more than a few seconds without rebooting on its own, then finally it got stuck on the Asus logo. I have had to factory reset it 3 times now, and this is the last straw.
Because of my patience with the device and my faith in Asus, I have now had the device too long to try and get a refund, and feel I am now £500 out of pocket. I would really like to know how Asus are going to restore my faith.

I was advised to RMA it, which I did and I received it back on Monday. The Report simply says...

I was doubtful if this would have fixed anything and was proved correct in the first hour of use. The system rebooted once on it's own, while just sat on the side asleep, within 30 secs of that crash it rebooted again this time getting stuck on the Asus logo.
The next day I tried it again and it booted into Android, but couldn't play anything through the BBC iPlayer without it force closing the browser.( A simple task which my Galaxy Note handles without issues)
I am wondering where to go from here, I have sent an email back to Asus but as of this moment have not had a reply. I think at this stage I would just simply like a new unit as I have no faith in the current one.
Anyone else have similar problems?
Regards,
Les
I truly feel for you. I have also had a bad experience. Mine was replaced three times when I first purchased in January 2012. I thought I had finally obtained one that was faultless but after a few months the connector basically fell apart through no fault of my own. I treat it like a new born baby. I even discovered that many people had the same issue and had it repaired under warranty. I RMAd it and the told me it was my fault and I had to pay £150. Anyway, after numerous phone calls and emails they agreed to repair. That took two months!
I actually wrote a long letter of complaint about the quality of the product and that it seemed the design and quality of components were not fit for purpose. I also pointed out all of the reported and inherent problems that others have experienced along with articles and forum threads as proof. My aim was to attempt to have them replace it with an infinity, which clearly has all of the prime issues resolved and clearly points to ASUS knowing the Prime had the faults I had highlighted.
Their response was that as a manufacturer under EU law they have no responsibility to replace a product an end user deems to be unfit for purpose and that they simply supply resellers with a product and therefore the end user is technically not their customer. Their responsibility is to simply repair a device with manufacturer faults for a minimum of a year in the UK.
So, reading between the lines they were saying that although I was right in what I was saying they weren't going to do anything about it because they aren't obligated to do so. Ethics doesn't come in to it.
Since then I received my Prime back from RMA and discovered it had grit under the glass and so back it went. On receiving it back again they had replaced the LCD and digitizer but this time they had bent the body, dented the seal around the glass with opening tools and the screen was actually popping out of the frame because of the damage to the body. So, I have been sending emails to them for six weeks to try to get it sorted out and finally they sent me another RMA pickup wistron and collected it yesterday. They didn't comment on my problem or apologise. Nothing.
The reason I'm going in to such detail here is to show what kind of customer service they operate. They refused to replace my Prime with an Infinity yet, I estimate, that they could probably have given me two for the money they have so far spent flogging the dead horse that is my TF201.
£45 each way on shipping times six.
£250 for a new screen.
They replaced the WiFi and gps boards.
The charge port.
Now the back casing and probably another screen due to the damage they made to the new one.
We're already up to about £900 and that doesn't include the time their staff have spent on the phone to me, responding to my emails and their legal department penning letters to me.
If a company is so hell bent on not giving a customer what they want in order to convert dissatisfaction to satisfaction that they will happily spend obscene amounts of money to deny them that, then there is little hope for anyone.
Phew. Bit of a rant there but I mean very word.

Just got a response and it was pretty much what I expected...
Thank you for contacting Asus Technical Support.
Our apologies that the repair has not resolved your issue. The repair centre was not able to replicate your stability problems, because the are intermittent. I can only recommend to apply for another rma for the unit. When filling in the rma form, please refer to the previous RMA and the fact that it did not resolve the issue.
If you have any further question, please don't hesitate to contact Asus Technical Support.
Kind regards,

Why was that not mentioned in the repair report? Why did no one contact me to ask what I was doing when it crashed? Why did they change the 40pin connector? Why did I ignore the bad reports and buy the &*%@$+£ thing in the first place?
Les
Still waiting for an update on mine. It just says "Received".
It wouldn't surprise me if the repair centre sits on it. I'm sure they're fed up with my complaints.
Of course, if they did a proper job I wouldn't have to complain.

I have green camera problem. I've probably had it for months but don't use it very often.
I pre ordered mine in the UK and got it 5th Jan 2012. Asus are now saying it is out of warranty. We got an extension to the warranty in the uk. Im not happy at the moment. I too was a big Asus fan and still am really.
Asus should fix a know manufacturers fault.
Does anyone know of an email address to complain to?

I received mine back from RMA in December. It had a green camera problem at first(which i was going to live with) and then the display was just black. They fixed it quickly and it was returned to me. The camera and display were fixed, but then I noticed it would freeze and reboot intermittently. An update came out while it was in RMA, but the tablet says not update found. I manually updated, but still froze and reboot often. I tried unlocking thinking a different rom would help, but the tablet cannot be unlocked. Called yesterday and am sending it off for RMA again. Hope I have better results this time.

Asus just updated the RMA page to "Product repair is in progress.-[WF9] Wait for Customer Confirmation-No Trouble Found" So im sure they will send it back and I will still have the same problem...sigh.....I called and gave them more information, but I am not confident that it will help.
Just got my prime back from RMA, looks like this time they have replaced the mainboard. So far it seems ok, but I've only been playing for an hour or so. Time will tell.

Just wanted to update the resolution to my problem. After the receiving my tablet back, it still rebooted and froze constantly.(no surprise), so I called and got an RMA number again. Sent it in, and a week AFTER they received it, I got an email saying they were going to replace it since it was the third RMA for the same problem, and I would get an email when it shipped. A week and a half later I finally got the email and it was on its way from California.( I sent mine to Texas). I received the tablet last week and have used it several hours with NO reboots! Its working perfectly! I have not tried to unlock it yet because the only reason I tried to unlock the other ones was because of the rebooting and freezing. Although I suspect since its from RMA it wont unlock. So to anyone that has issues with their prime, keep sending it back and eventually they will replace it.

I have the RMA number, but I'm in doubt to send it to Grapevine because I'll be in NYC only for 15 days. If they takes more than 15 days, I'll lose it.
I think, they should have some service center in New York.
What would you recommend to do?

You dont live in the US? If not, I am not sure what you should do. The first time I sent it in it only took a week to get it back to me.(I live 15 minutes from Grapevine Tx). But the next 2 times it took 3 weeks.
Sorry I know this probably doesnt help you..
I have been very happy with my Nexus 9. I bought it at Best Buy the first day it came out. I just returned from a holiday trip, and I kept thinking what a great
traveling device I had, so compact, yet so nice to use, so much better than the laptop I used to carry. I liked the screen, the aspect ratio, the performance.
Well, as soon as I returned, I was surfing Firefox and the screen went all crazy with an abstract pattern and I could only reboot with the power button.
Since then, this has started to happen repeatedly when my battery level drops below about 40%. The screen is white or white with some sort of geometric pattern
and the device is completely frozen. This morning I rebooted, played with it a few more minutes and it happened again.
I have found a few mentions of similar problems online and none of them were fixed by a software reset. Of course, I will do that, but I'm convinced this is not going to help.
So I've had my tablet for a few months beyond the year warranty. And I paid full original price. And I can live with it and keep the battery above 40%, assuming things don't
degrade, but of course, they usually do. Or I can try to work with HTC to pay for an expensive repair (motherboard replacement was said to work). Or I can write it off
and replace it.
I like Android. I am thinking the Pixel C would even be a step up. But I have some big concerns. My first Nexus 7 (2012) failed after warranty was up. Now my Nexus 9 is failing
very soon after warranty is up. I really hate the Apple way of doing things, but I do know that if I get an iPad, I won't have any problems getting it fixed, plus I think it would
be much more mature than a new Google tablet that has sold to a handful of Android enthusiasts.
So I'm just disappointed. With 20/20 hindsight, I should have gotten Best Buy's extended warranty, but that's life. Anyway, I would be grateful for any suggestions. Thank you.
Monday update: For those who may be interested. I contacted HTC customer service and they told me that my warranty expires in 5 days. So I am sending it back under warranty.
As I tried to back up data prior to wiping it clean, I discovered that the Nexus 9 mounts on my Windows 7 computer as it always did, but there is no longer a file system that shows up. I had to back up my data over wifi
using FTP. So this is a very clear and repeatable problem, which means the HTC people will not have to try to reproduce an intermittent freeze up.
Anyway, it will go back tomorrow and I hope for the best.
Hey,
I have the same issue with my tablet, was it fixed?

There is an extra step involved from Marshmallow deices to see the filesystem: - http://www.androidcentral.com/inside-marshmallow-usb-connection-options
Thanks corkiejp I did figure this out. I was so stressed backing up all my files before sending it back I sort of freaked out when the file system was gone. But yes, it is just another step to get it back.
In response to "was it fixed?" I am not yet sure. I called HTC and they called it a software problem and reinstalled the OS. I told the guy I was sure this would not fix it (based primarily on other peoples' reports online) and he "noted" my irritation, but that was the extent of their fix.
So I got all my apps installed from the image (very convenient) which took a few hours, then it gave me 3 system updates and now I'm back to where I started. I have let it run down to 25% battery a few times
and there has been no failure so far.
I do have a gut feeling that this was actually not a software problem and it will show up again. At least I will be able to push for warranty service if that happens.
I sure do love this tablet. I was using my 2013 Nexus 7 while it was gone. I was crazy about the Nexus 7 as my first tablet in 2012, but the Nexus 9 makes it seem quite antiquated and the bigger screen is much better for everything I use it for. If the Nexus 9 does fail again, I'll send it back, but I was quite serious about trying an ipad. I will need to jailbreak it to get it anywhere near a product I can use, but that seems to be a breeze. But anyway, Nexus 9 is working great at the moment.
Latest update. So for about 3 weeks I used my Nexus 9 and charged it whenever it got down below about 30% battery and no problems. So I thought OK maybe this was a software problem after all and it was fixed.
However, yesterday, it froze on white screen at 39% battery. Clearly this is not fixed. I will wait until I see this happen once or twice more, then contact HTC and tell them I need to claim warranty service even though I am
now out of warranty, since their first fix under warranty did not work. Then I will see if they will fix it under warranty and most importantly, whether or not they just reinstall software again and call it fixed.

This happened to my first N9 after 4 months. They k ow it's not a software problem. It's ridiculous that they present they've never seen this issue everytime someone reports it. I demanded replacement for mine. I tried flashing a factory image myself before that and it changed nothing.
You are not alone - my N9 fails below battery 60% https://youtu.be/-ISHFFZVJVw and http://goo.gl/1i50x4
