So i just got the droidx2 i really like the phone and all but im thinking about trading it for a htc thunderbolt does anybody know how they compare to eachother?

A buddy of mine from work just got a thunderbolt and it is really fast the development on the x2 is slow but is getting there ..the thunderbolt does have some sweet roms out ....the only bad thing I've heard is that it has terrible battery life ....its your call bit those are my 2 cents

i was using dx and i bought the thunderbolt on ebay and used it
for about 3months.. but then i came back to dx..
if you want 4g lte then u might want thunderbolt,
but if 3g is ok with u then dx2 will be a lot better
im getting dx2 today for replacement

I believe battery life importance is by far the most important thing in a phone. Can't wait for the day when battery life on these and 4G (since their going to phase 3G out) is fantastic (more then 10 hours heavy use). Thats just wishful thinking because it'll never happen.
Question for those here, when 3G phones do get phased out and were stuck with 4G and its horrible battery life is everyone just going to go with the flow or anyone stick with the same phone they currently have.

If you want to hear yet another "negative thing" about the Thunderbold, I think it feels rather "clunky" in your hand. Sorta like a small brick.
I had a Thunderbolt and came to the x2. It's a great phone, development is awesome, ie it has cm7 and a slew of sense based roms. Battery life is easily manageable. I'd go back if i could.

stop trolling. GB is the most stable android as a whole has ever been. and the pentile display is entirely opinion, although most "real world" reviews will tell you it is not an issue in the least bit.

Go for the Bolt, especially if you're into custom roms. We only have 2 roms...which aren't really custom roms, they're just tweaked stock roms. Nothing like CM7 or MIUI.
Once the Bionic comes out, a good handful of people will get it. I doubt a lot of devs will be looking at it (locked loader, sick of waiting for it). The Bionic, the Vigor, and the rumored soon released Nexus Prime are going to push us to the back of the room. I plan on trying to sell my x2 once the Prime or Vigor comes out, actually I regret getting it since the Prime and Vigor are coming out so soon

Can you root a stock Samsung phone now without having to deal with that "Rage against the Cage" nonsense? Tried it once on my wife's Facinate and my anti-virus program wouldn't let Rage run, even when I disabled it. (I know there are ROM's with pre-rooted Kernels you can flash. Just flashed rooted GB 2.3.5 kernel to my Galaxy Tab.)

But all that aside, I checked out the razr today & plan on comparing it to the Rezound next week. My bottom line is reception & my x2 has never failed me where my wife's dinc hasn't been too impressive so htc might not be the best for me.

Rage in the cage new? Never had to use it. First root ever was a one click root i found somewhere. Then i used Odin to flash the stock froyo pre-root. I believe i seen a pre-root GB stock over there, too.

I believe "Rage against the Cage" is the exploit scheme that they used on the Samsung one-click boot process. It's been about 6 months since I've tried to root the Facinate, so my memory is sketcy. The upside is that, as you mentioned, there are probably a lot of pre-rooted ROM offerings that can be easily flashed with Heimdall (or Odin, if yer into that).
I agree Sammy makes a good phone. Wife loves her Facinate. Sadly, the Galaxy II never made it to Verizon, but now lots of folks are waiting for the Nexus, which should be out around the end of the month. But I also like the Moto Droid line, now that we've been given some developer attention. The hardware is top notch, and my X2 is running VERY snappy and stable on Moto-Ginger-Funk v7a. I have no reason to want to trade up for a long while yet (unless Google cannot get a handle on their funky Market issue).
Droid Razr looks very sharp (sorry for the pun). I'm a little afraid of the non-removeable battery, though. There are loads of times that I have recoved my X2 from brink of "brickhood" just by pulling the battery and booting into recovery.
I'm not too crazy about the Razr's non-detachable battery. All too often taking the battery out and putting it back in seems to solve a problem, without having that ability on the Razr I'm somewhat concerned.
Odin=Heimdall but for diff operating systems, i believe. When my contract is up, I'm looking into sprint if vzw isn't allowed to launch the SGSII. And no, i have no intentions of turning this thread into a "who it's better sprint or vzw". Carry on w/ upgrade discussion...

I'm pretty sure that the razr has a failsafe two buttons u.press to kill battery connection or something similar
.like a "hard kill" switch.
I am upgrading to the ReZound Monday. There are more reasons not to get the Razr, than there are to get it lol. If you are in an X2 now, you are better off either keeping it and riding out your time, or getting the ReZound/Nexus, at least right now.

What led you to the Rezound? Beats audio or the the display?
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
Well, the headphones alone carry a very hefty price, so getting them "free" for the same price as the other phones is a good incentive(probably why they aren't advertising the phone). I already have the SkullCandy Titan Earbuds, so I really don't NEED the Beats Audio ones. But, the camera's on it are both better. The screen resolution is on par with the nexus on a DX2 size screen. Removable battery, SD storage, unlockable BL, 1.5GHz processor.. Basically, the only "feature" it doesn't carry is the super slim design, and who gives a **** if the phone is lacking in so many other categories? lol.
My moms Stock Inc2 walked all over my X2 with Eclipse before I even put CM7 on it for her! HTC is doing all the right things, even with Sense. Too many people complain about Samsung, and I lived in Korea for 2 years from 07-09, we are getting their leftovers over here(Thanks FCC/FTC, and assholes running patent wars..Apple).
Yeah Im gonna look into adding a line soon. Not sure if I'm going to resound or nexus yet
Rezound looks sick. As does nexus(ICS!) but I can see resound getting ics eventually.
ha. HTC edge I thought about until I saw it was Tegra. I will wait for reviews on that before even trying it lol. This phone has lowered my expectations for tegra devices lol

We did that actually, got the original DX the day they came out. Loved em. I moved from a bb curve and she from a Moto rokr. When the DX gb bugs hit we were offered DX2s and took them since we had the car docks etc. Didn't feel like switching 100 worth of accessories.
AtLemacks right, seems that the Razer with limitations or something without. Hardware is close enough on either one. Why move to another Moto and keep banging your head against the wall like we do daily.

If you are used to flash junk and customize your phone a lot. Keep your nexus.

All I really want is cm 9 at most root at the very least. Do you know if either of those are possible?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I have prob 5 friends w modded nexuses. The screen is sharper on the nexus but much easier to read in any kind of light from me on the maxx. The battery if amazing. I can avg 5 hrs screen on time on 3g alone. The camera is actually much better than I originally thought and takes nice pictures very easily but no camera is as fast as the nexus...although I have only seen a stock nexus actually work correctly in the camera Dept.
I miss ics as I have had it on many phones since last oct but the ics leak is good for the RAZR. Still great battery life there. I rooted mine and froze a bunch of apps today that I don't use but I get the same battery life whether I freeze them or not.
One mild complaint that you may have is the RAZR gallery has a terrible pinch zoom bug. I use quickpic for my gallery and froze the stock gallery along w a lot of other stuff.
In the end its a phone. Calls are clear. Reception is great. And it really last all day. No rebooting all the time. No errors. No problems here. I like that.

Having never owned a Nexus I cannot compare the two but can offer my opinions of the MAXX as it compares to many Android phones from my past. The battery is simply amazing, best I could have ever hoped for. I can abuse my phone (granted that term is subjective) throughout the day and still have some juice left when I go to bed at night. My dad only uses his for calls and his lasts 3-4 days consistantly.
The screen is OK. IMO it is far inferior to the GSII that I came from. If you look close enough you can see a slight screen door effect that looks rather grainy. Not as bad as my Photon was, but still not as good of a screen as I have seen in other phones.
Motorola phones are not known for having a big dev community. I saw a lot more dev activity when I had an EVO 4G, EVO 3D and GSII. That may be the deal breaker for you if you are looking for much more than an out of the box experience.
Having said all of that, if you want an extremely solid phone, then the MAXX can deliver that. My experience in reception is much better than anything I ever owned on Sprint or Verizon and I live in an area with great coverage.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

I would love a gsm maxx razr, now it's only 4 USA and I'm out of the borders.
I like razr, gotcha XT910 in december. Bought it because its amazing hardware , but I can't say I'm happy stuck in 2.3.5 GB due locked bl. Others devices in same categorie like SGII, Arc S,, and HTC now are running ICS flawless. To us, we can.only hope get hands on ICS by Q2,, at least.
Also, this is my second razr, and tomorrow I'll leave it to motorola service center again. I've a reason to be disapointed.
Have top phones since 90's and this is far away my best phone ever. Moved to android (came from 'siri' phone) because it's very popular in Brazil, and overall razr design. But you need luck to get a razr with no problem at all, at least, those made here, all LatAm, have to say. I dont see guys from XT912 (you have one right?) complain' about it.
May be too late indeed to motorola unlock bl, SGSIII is on the way with a 1.8 Quade core....
The AdamOtler vdd seems a bit radical, but he made the point. Cannot comment an opinion without reffer to it.

Although the ICS leaks and ROMs are really good. They are not flawless. And won't be until the official release. Even the devs admit that. They all have bugs, albeit very minor bugs.
The big things for me was the HDMI out and the micro sd card. If you get a maxx then you get the awesome battery. While the dev for the phone is low right now, ICS is just around the corner and with a boot workaround here/being worked on I think the razr is the better phone.
both are great devices. so it depends what you want to do with each.
if mods, hacks, roms, flashing are your thing - Galaxy Nexus
limited tinkering - moto razr.
having said that, razr has better battery life. very lightweight. better camera too. plus storage is expandable.
I had the Nexus before I had my Razr Maxx.... Night and day. Radio was garbage in comparison on the Nexus, always bad reception. Battery life is SO much better. Razr feels much more solid. Aside from ICS, the nexus honestly seemed like a piece of junk when I got this.
Is cm9 available yet? Can you even flash custom roms?

Cause no Samsung phone has ever had problems. Give this video a break as Adam has no clue about the razr. He doesnt dev for it so he has no reason to talk ****. Just because they built it this way does not make it any less disposable than other phones. If it breaks and its your fault, then guess what, you fed up. If its not your fault you get a replacement or switch.

I've had quite a few Android devices, including the Galaxy Nexus and Droid RAZR, but this one is by far my favorite. I took a Trophy plus some expensive headphones a while back for my RAZR, and finally emerged from the wilderness of WP7 back into Android. This phone is very smooth, and has a wider range of apps and games available than any others that I've owned, besides the OG Droid. It always frustrated me that I couldn't play some of my old favorite GL games on my newer device, but now I can. I do have a class 10 card so that may make a difference too.

Yeah that's what I meant. You couldn't remove all the Moto software. Same thing with the RAZR, it bottle-necked like crazy, and you couldn't fix it. All Moto dual-cores seem to do that. It's that jumpy lag that pops up every now and again.
I think it's a good phone overall, but avoid it if you're a heavy GPS user. Now that I've upgraded to a LG Spectrum my Fascinate is freed up to play with. I came from a Droid Eris to the Fascinate and found the Samsung style of android daunting with Odin, PIT files, MTD vs non MTD, Voodoo, multiple versions of CWM. It will make your head spin. My Eris once rooted, all I had to do was throw zips on the SD card and flash them, I didn't have to think about can I go from ROM A to ROM B without soft-bricking the phone etc. One of the best things about the Fascinate was they show up on Cowboom.com from time to time for about $70 with no contract.
My spectrum has a very good screen, but still doesn't have the richness of a Samsung display. One thing I could always hold over the "IClones" that are everywhere when they go on and on about their precious retina display was, ok you have a high pixel density, but you also have a smaller screen, and the colors feel washed out.
My screen is bigger and has colors that POP!

True, if Motorola would give us the key to unlock the phones then the phone might blow the fascinate out of the water with numerous kernels and everything, but being locked down the Motorola Droid X2 running GB 2.3.5 compared to a stock Fascinate running the same OS the fascinate seems to blow the Droid X2 outta the water IMO. I think blur is a total waste of space on the phone and the kernel being locked is even worse, but this has been said on every human known forum for development on the internet.
I wish Motorola would do what Samsung is doing and providing the phone's being unlocked at the get go, but now that I have Samsung, I'm never going back!
sorry for the long winded rant that kept going back to the fact that Motorola needs to provide an unlock tool without having to buy a new phone without a warranty.

haha i figured since you've had two up-to-date Motorola phones. If I may ask, why'd you switch from the nexus to (possibly) the fascinate? or even better question, why aren't you using the nexus over the fascinate?

yes sir, that definitely is impressive. I forgot it was designed and released with Eclair 2.1. I just bought the phone and I believe it was on froyo, but then I odin'd it to GB and went straight to ICS.

What I really miss is the Rezound. I traded my Nexus for a RAZR because I thought surely Motorola had improved since the X2. I was wrong, clearly. I ended up trading my RAZR for a Trophy plus some nice headphones then the Trophy for the Fascinate. I'd love a Rezound though lol.

so you had 4g devices and then traded them for a 3g device? idk if I could do that if I had 4g, I don't know if I'd like a HTC device anymore, I honestly think i'm going to stick with Samsung.

that's how I feel, that's why I went with the Fascinate instead of the Nexus or anything 4g.

May buy another Rezound though, because they just put 4G in my area.
I agree i'm loving the fascinate its a great phone. I have had several other phones, including blackberry witch was a disaster. Fascinate is defiantly one of the best phones i have had.
I've been having issues with network here in Scarborough Maine. At first Verizon was quick to help but after 2-3 months of trying to get them to fix it its like they are trying to ignore me. Also, this is after 2 replacement phones. So today I called back and they said my network ticket had been.....RESOLVED??!! Hmm this is the first I heard of it and obviously not since I'm still having speed issues. So I got transferred to tech support and they offered to give me a different model. She said no iPhone (I laughed and said that's fine I hate apple junk) and no 4G phones (dammit). So she gave me two phones that she "recommends" a Casio commander and an HTC rhyme....WTF!!?? So I kinda giggled and said I don't think those will work for ME. So I guess I'm allowed any current 3G phone on their website, I want suggestions from you guys annnnnd go!

great phone. single core but has a really good dev community. has more ram too, if im not mistaken. also has REALLY stable ics roms like cm9, aokp, miui, a sense 4 rom, paranoid, geeze theres alot of roms!
They gave me a Dinc2 and I love it. Just be aware the newer software on the phones are making it more dificult to downgrade to get s off. Which gives you perm root. When they downgrade with the newer software version sense roms bootloop. People are working on it and it is ongoing. AOSP roms will work fine like CM7 and CM9 or any aosp ICS rom.
jesus, verizon put up a helluva fight but after fighting with them tooth and nail for over 45 minutes, I am now the proud owner of a droid incredible 2. My time in the droid x 2 forums has been great everybody here has been extremely helpful in any issues or questions I've had. And as for the developers, thank you so very much for making this phone at all usable and enjoyable. Of course I will still be browsing through these forums because my roommate has the x2 but my time here has come to an end. moving on to bigger and better things!!! See you all on the flip side, actually, who am I kidding I will still be on these damn x2 forums everyday lol

well..... the rezound doesnt have any of those roms. We dont have a stable CM9 or AOKP. there are some but they are REALLY alpha (like no talk, texting, wifi, 3g/4g, etc) it pretty much boots. Although, there are some good roms. the one im running is Desensed, meaning there is less sense but its still there.
I actually went from resound to Droid x2 lol. So many issues with my resound. Besides ram issues I love dx2

Cool. I went to RAZR and it's definitely 10x (if not 100x) better than the X2.
Enjoy!

Youch. Not sure if the X2 could be considered to be better. At least, not from my experience!
Music on the X2 is awful. It constantly skipped and the 512mb of memory just doesn't cut it. If you're not using it for music, it's not bad, but as an MP3 player, wow. Poor, poor design.
But, if it's doing better than the resound, all the more power to yah! There are plenty of helpful people here with a lot of knowledge.
Enjoy!
Ugh guys, I've kinda gotten attached to my X2. I was looking through the Incredible 2 forums and it looks like I have a lot to learn lol

The X2 is losing people literally everyday. Congrats of the new device. Funny cause I still use my X2 everyday. My 4G signal is extremely iffy in my gym (and the wifi is un-useable) so when it goes out, no music and no Netflix. I whip out my X2 that now holds all my music internally and I'm all good.

I might just buy a cheap X2 in a while so I can keep screwing around with it, DzK's ICS has a lot of potential, it will only get better with time as he hacks the **** out of it lol

I offered to trade my thunderbolt for a droid razr and they offered it plus cash. Should I take it? I don't like moto much but just curious if anyone else thought it was a good deal.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
I suppose I'm just a fan of HTC phones, but I would stick to the Thunderbolt.
Your phone works perfectly and you know how to use it correctly. The Razr would be another whole thing to get used to and you take a chance on that phone having its issues.
I'm probably way out there on my concept, and I'd also hate to see you leave the Thunderbolt community. We've lost a lot of people already, and as active as you are here, it would be much lonely here.
Besides that, I just personally think the Thunderbolt is a better phone... but that's just my opinion of it.

I like my thunderbolt just fine I was just thinking of the moto razr as a slight upgrade. I'm mo stranger to Motorola all. My wife had the og droid and a droid 3 (both of which were huge piles of crap) and rooted them both. I'm just worried ill get that razr and it will be a huge steaming pile like my wife's droids. Thanks, you helped me decide against it.

Good. I tried. Haha.
I've mostly always heard bad reviews about moto phones.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
The displays in them after the og droid look like crap. You can actually see the digitizer on it which is annoying to me. Plus blur sucks really bad IMO. I think blur just looks terrible. Hardware wise the phone is better but I think the display and blur are enough for me to not want it.

I know this is a few days old, but another vote for keeping the Thunderbolt. I checked out the RAZR and RAZR MAXX in the store, and absolutely hated the display and overly large bezel, as well as the odd hard edges of the phone. While the Thunderbolt is older and has lower specs, I still prefer it. Heck, I missed it after using a GS3 for a couple days.
Yea I'm not getting it. I really hate moto phones.
