Does anyone use Green power or Juice defender app on thunderbolt, and if so is it really saving battery life and are they working ok .
I couldn't ever get juice defender to work.

All those apps... Battery, Task Managers, etc are nothing but a farce. Fundraisers.
IMO
I believe that both work from my experiences. I have both but only tried Green Power on the TB. I am still determining how well it works for the TB. I used GP with the Incredible and I was quite pleased. I have the paid version and it allows for night profiles which is nice. The difference for me between JD and GP was ease of use- both are very good and very tweakable but GP was about as simple as it gets.
I will have to give that a try which one do u reccomend
I've been using juice defender for a while now and it works great. It basically just turns off your data while the screen is off, except for every 15 minutes (or whatever you define) it turns on and checks for push notifications. saves me a lot of battery life. I tried green power but I was having some issues with data not being turned back on after I turned the screen back on. DroidTh3ory - I agree that task killers are unnecessary fundraisers, but these data switching apps have a genuine use and do work.
Try super power. It's the same as juice defender. Works great.

Me neither. It got an error every time I tried to run it after getting my parameters set up.
i use green power pro and its great.
Green Power did not work well with my TB for some reason. Once I turn the screen on, I lost WiFi and Mobile Network, and could not get it back unless I rebooted the phone. Tried Juice Defender Beta, and it works much, much better. The latest release of JD Beta even fixed whatever TB issues it had, which was why I uninstalled JD Beta in the first place in favor of GP.
I don't have a thunderbolt, but I love green power. I started off with Juice Defender and found the free version way too limiting. If you want proof that green power works, run juice plotter with it for a day. With juice plotter, you can clearly see 3G being turned on and off at exactly the times you specify and the resulting increase to your battery life.
Anyone having issues with Juice Defender should download the "Juice Defender Beta" version from the market. It worked for me.
Currently using JuiceDefender on the ThunderBolt. They finally fix the problem with the ThunderBolt on the last release. Is working VERY good so far today. I'm at 11hrs/22%. I had 3 may be 30mins calls today, two 15mins video calls and normal txt, web browsing.
ran both of em, the one that was kinda cool and shut of wifi and data when inactive was nice, other than that they kinda blow. To be honest all you need is a nice all that can find detect the brightness arround you and adjust the screen accordingly, for me it's what is sucking up my batt.
Coming from a BB, I discorved there was a light sensor on the storm in the LED area. In the engineer settings that you could get too by some special combo which some1 made a keygento access it. *Hidden dev section they locked it out w/ a time sensitve code* It measured the light in lux, if the tbolt has something like this it would be nice or have the front faceing cam turn on in the background for the shortest time possible *under a sec* to measure the light every XX seconds.
Had Juice Defender with Ultimate Juice on my Thunderbolt and it kept stopping on its own without me knowing. Switched to Green Power Pro and it works flawlessly with my Thunderbolt and yes, I do get better battery life while using it. Just sometimes you need to turn it off to be able to download data. Hope this helps.
Juicedefender didnt work for me until yesterday...it updated and has worked great since
have tried green power and juice defender on mt4g..really the only thing that matters is that they stop data from being collected and used all the time...both work well, i like green power better because its far more simple..but for someone who wants to tweak to the optimum level, juice defender has more settings...

the thunderbolt has a light sensor too, but i have no idea if its possible to access its settings to adjust screen brightness.
If anyone uses Ultimate Juice/Juice defender, can you kindly chime in and give me your personal views on your experience with it on the 3D. It seems like it drains my battery overnight while idle. I took my charger off the phone fully juiced. When I woke up this morning it was sitting at 82 percent. Now when i don't have juice defender installed my phone sleeps like a beast. I observed this when i wasn't rooted all the way till this day. When i checked the notification bar I saw that titanium backup ran one of the schedules I have set up so I thought that may be it. I just want to here you guys experiences so I could see if this app is still a keeper for my 3D.

What ROM are you using? I don't have juice installed, but with senseless or viper installed, I wake up with what I had the night before. Possibly 1 percent dropped. Background notifications are off, Bluetooth off, WiFi or 3g on and Facebook friendstreak loaded if on viper. Others eat up battery power.

I'm on Showdowns ROM with his baked kernel. That's what I'm saying, if I don't have juice Defender installed I won't lose I sip of battery overnight. As soon as I installed it I notice I lost almost 20%. I observed this once before right when temp root came out so i uninstalled it. The crazy part about it to me is I can't find no bad reviews anywhere on the app. That's why I'm asking you guys for your opinions.

Then that tells me get rid of it. Sometimes best intentions backfire. I know we really don't need items like juice or advanced task manager with our version of android, their times where of past versions. That is my view, they where needed on the og EVO, not now.

So you mean to tell me you don't lose any battery at all using juice defender. Have you ever tried charging till you had a full battery then taking it off the charger and letting it sit idle overnight. Try that and chime back in with your results. If you don't come back with the same issue I had ill start using ultimate juice again. Only cuz your a Dev.

I've been meaning to ask you about your Kaos logo. Isn't that the same logo from homefront, if so, nice.

I have had nothing but good results from using it. And, I've recommended it to lots of people. The thing it does best is to keep the 3G radio off most of the time. That is what saves the most battery.
I like a lot of the other features, too, like the location one where it figures out where you connect to WiFi and turns it on in just those places. That feature isn't perfect, but it works fairly well.
I've forgotten to plug it in to charge overnight, before, and awakened to only a percentage or two drop. I've actually never tested it without Juice Defender, though, but I am quite happy with my battery life with it.
I had good results with Juice Defender but when I upgraded to Ultimate things went haywire. Ended up not being able to connect to any WiFi network, WiFi would show as ON but I would get "Unable to Search for Networks". Uninstalled and rebooted and back working. So now I just manage my radios manually; that bug gave me a scare as really didn't want to have to re-flash. Oh, EVO 3d GSM on Virtuous 1.02.
I've used Juice for a long time. First on my 4G and now on my 3D. Just the other night I was fully charged before I went to bed and left the phone unplugged overnight. Woke up with 98% while having wifi, gps and bluetooth still on.
I'm using the gbsense-e3d rom. I plugged it in last night and was at 8% battery after 21 hours & around 2 hours of on screen usage and display 53%.
I have Juice set to basic but I usually run it on advanced and use the location for managing my wireless. In the past I did set a bunch of options in advanced settings and got terrible battery so I started to only use the preset options.

Well the percentage drop is noticeable to me because I have a 4000 mah extendo from seidio. I uninstalled ultimate juice last night before I took it off the charger to do another test. Just to see if ill get that same percentage drop without the app, & what do you know? I lost a total of three percent without it with all my radios on including 4G. So yeah, screw juice defender. Like I said, you'll have to fully charge to a hundred then take it off the charger and let it sit overnight to see what I really mean. I think when it gets in the 80 percentile, that's when it starts serving justice. IMO I don't think its really optimized for dual core phones.

i have no issues with it. i leave my phone off all day and night at times. my wife forgets to charge hers alot. sometimes its off days. including nights. it never kills it fast. if anything it only dropped by a few % i guess depends on how you configure thew app. i just dont install it and let it run. i set it up to my liking.

Well that's what I'm saying. I could leave my Evo sitting all day and it won't lose any battery if I won't touch it. If JD is designed to save juice while the screen is off, it defeats the purpose by draining battery in the background.
My "DU4L C0R3 SH00T3R" shot you down in 3D! -Security Off-
And just to let you guys know, I just realized juice defender isn't really needed. Your 3G sleeps when the screen is off if you go into mobile network settings and uncheck Enable always-on mobile data.

I'm experimenting with Juice Defender Ultimate as well. I'm using SteelROM and last night I had my phone on my battery for 12hrs. Watched a couple of Football games on my Sunday Ticket app, surfed the internet, checked email, and made a few phone calls. Without Juice Defender, I was getting about 9 to 10hrs (using SteelROM) a day with about the same amount of usage. So I guess I'm getting 2 more hours using it. But Steel's ROM is also a factor in me getting better battery life.
Ive been rooted since we got S-Off and have been considering installing a custom rom. I just would like to know if callibrating (fully charge, fully drain, etc) is really necessary.
Nope, but its recommended. You'll notice your battery would be constantly misread if you don't do it between flasing roms.

He meant to say that your battery life would continuously improve as the rom discovered range limits of the battery voltage.
So can I fully charge it, and then drain it doing whatever necessary? Or do I use it normally to drain it? Also, is this done before the rom, or after?

This is just a personal theory. The operating system reads the battery percentage so say your at 60 percent and you flash a new ROM right. Which is basically taking the operating system off and replacing it again. Those battery states left from the old ROM would still be there if you don't wipe them. Mind you since your in recovery the operating system is not really running since you haven't booted up & while in recovery of course your draining battery (keep in mind, these phones were not made for use to be going in and out of recovery mode. Therefore if your phone is all stock, there would be know reason for the OS to misread your battery percentage.) So when you boot back up into the ROM the battery is looking at the older battery stats which could possibly cause the OS to misread the battery percentage. Like I sad its just a theory. Maybe someone with a little bit mire knowledge then me could chime in and better explain.

Why not wiping battery stats in recovery?

Phone doesn't read battery percentage, it reads voltage and then calculates the percentage based on the lowest and highest voltages recorded.
Posted from SDX Developers
So it seems like your battery isn’t lasting very long. You search the Forum at SDX Developers and hear about this thing called “Battery Re-Calibration” and how its supposed to be great for increasing your battery life. Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but the guides for “Battery Calibration” lead you through some steps that actually do more harm than good! And here’s the reason why: The batteries in your mobile forms are high-capacity lithium-ion batteries. This kind of battery technology cannot be simply reset and “re-calibrated.” When you follow the steps to recalibrate your battery and delete the batterystats.bin file from your phone, you are getting rid of more than what you think… Stored inside that batterystats.bin file, your phone keeps detailed logs of the capacity of your battery and uses it on how it can be utilized more efficiently. By deleting this file, it basically wipes the phone’s memory on what the battery can really do. This actually does damage to your battery by using up valuable charging cycles, all while giving a fraction of battery life and performance. Now, you might be saying uh-oh, I’ve already re-calibrated my battery! What do I do?! Well here’s your answer. Use your phone like normal. Yes, your battery and phone wont perform as good as it can for a while, but after a few days, you will notice that it starts doing better and better. Give it time, its trying to rebuild all those logs that you just deleted I hope this helps and clears up this argument once and for all! I'm talking ROMs, kernels, apps to help, ANYTHING. I'm almost literally sick by how awful this battery is. I made my EVO 4G last 2 days on heavy usage(how I always use my phone) with juicedefender running. Now juicedefender doesn't seem to help even a bit and my phone ends up dying in 6 hours TOPS so I need to start focusing more on ROMs geared towards battery life. Help?
Edit: before people assume I haven't researched this. I bought an Anker battery (still hasn't shipped), taken heed of everything in the battery life tips thread, AND reduced my auto brightness as suggested in that one thread. These fixes give me negligible amounts of power.
Edit 2: after turning off all user apps that start up with my phone my phone has a wake lock that I can't get past.
I personally think that the Virus 2.3.3 Nightly (gingerbread) ROM runs very well with the lowest amount of battery use. Some things you have to get used to, but overall I love using it. I'm on my second day of no charge (although I do have a 4500mah battery) - and still have 30% left. And I am on my phone for hours sometimes. So with a regular battery I would assume you could get a day or more. Use the stock Ziggy's Kernel that comes with it. Then, if you want even more battery out of it, use Virtuous OC to underclock the CPU to below stock settings and you should easily get more than a day out of it with pretty hefty usage.
A different ROM that wasn't my personal favorite but is definitely a good ROM for battery saving is Viper's. His is sense.

Juice defender definitely drains battery by running in the background. The 3D is already capable of disabling 3G while screen is off.

My phone hovers between 122-127 degrees F while tethering. Is this normal? While tethering on a different Rom (skyraider Zeus) my temperature even shot up to 140F. I'm on the seidio extended btw... Just wondering if under 130F is safe for my phone. Seidio has on its battery that up to145 is safe..
probably due to radio constantly pulling signal, cpu working to keep everything working and current draw from battery operating phone. these things do have thermal protection and if temp was to high you would know it.
Thank you very much!

These phones are rated to handle 140-176F, The only concern would be the battery, it can handle it but heat is the #1 killer for Lithium Ion batteries (Other than keeping them at 0 or 100% charge).
Never seen mine above 93 on tether. I don't use Seido battery either.
Take any case off the phone when tethering, and try to keep on a surface that would stay cool, like marble or something.

93°? I see higher than that from everyday use without tethering. OP, if your phone gets too hot and starts to overheat it will shut down before any real damage is done.
