I use clockworkmod recovery
In this thread, they are saying to use a different recovery as CWM does not work well.
But I noticed in your previous posts that you said you have the Incredible S. I know that there are different versions of CWM recovery, maybe you just have to use a different version. You can skim through this thread and reflash CWM recovery.
I personally never used CWM, so I couldn't help you any further other than to search for different solutions on here.
Did you do a system AND dalvik wipe? I used to get errors when i would forget. And CWM sometimes wont load for me and i get the default bootloader prog, but if you use rom manager (free) you have an option to boot straight into CWM. Hope that helps a bit.

Did you do a MD5SUM check on the rom file you download?
On the incredible I'd suggest I use the EXT4 recovery over Cwm
I'd also as suggested advice re download your ROM file check md5 sum, perform the recommended wipes and then flash ROM again

Hi All
I am new to flashing roms, I am having a huge difficulty with flashing roms through CWM, every time I have done so it has always left me in an end boot screen loop.
Can anyone please help, maybe give me a fools guide on how to flash a rom using CWM as I feel like a fool after trying it 7 times and still not getting it.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 - I have flashed Lite-ning rom 2.2 using Odin
Help
What are you trying to flash? What rom?

Usual instructions are to have a rooted phone with CWM 4 or later on your phone .
Download roms zip and copy to phones SD card .
Power off boot into recovery and >> choose zip from SD card select install wait to finish booting done .
But all roms have differing instructions that you must follow to the letter .
So why are you using CWM to flash a rom that has no instructions to do anything other than flash with Odin .
Instructions are at the very beginning of Lightning 2.2 post and are easy to follow with pictures .

Looping can be caused by not wiping the caches in recovery or cwm.

To use cwm you need to download rom manager and use it to download and inststall cwm or download cwm to your sd card as a zip, it will be called 'update.zip' . Use recovery to install 'update.zip'.
If it comes back as unable to verify zip, then you are not rooted. You may also have to install 'update.zip' twice from recovery!
You must format system and caches then find, via cwm, your rom and install. I am using Designgears Cognition 1.13. There are updates to this but they are beta. 1.13 has no glitches. Remember to download this rom to your sd card before you use cwm. I think this may be a good starting rom for you. It is one of the few roms at the forefront of Linux and Samsung technology. If you try for anything more you may end-up designing the roms or getting confused! Other roms are miui, darkys, insanity and others which you may want to look at.
Please be careful with what roms you can download, there are many old ones and you need to have a rom which had the correct crc or area that you use you phone. Cognition has multi-crc's. Also, a problem can occur if you use Odin because you are using 2 hardwares, pc and pda. I once downloaded a bad rom and used Odin to flash and it terminated the flash halfway through. End of phone unless I use the usb plug and resistors to cross wire and get it into download mode.
Hope this helps.

To use cwm you need to download rom manager
You dont need rom manager to use or install CWM .I and many others have installed multiple roms just using a CWM and root flash .
I believe the OP is flashing a non CWM file and that's his problem or not following the roms instructions probably to wipe as you said ..
But he is not replying to his answers .
jje
No offence meant to the OP but it's scary the amount of people who cannot follow clearly laid out instructions from intratech, codeworkx etc.
No harm in double checking though BUT if you are not sure about how do to it then DO NOT FLASH!
In simple terms
.tar flash with odin by clicking PDA only
.zip reboot into recovery mode (CWM) and install from zip and select file
As another poster said it's always wise to factory reset and wipe cache including dalvik if going from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 BEFORE flashing the zip file.
Feel free to correct me
This is not my first Android device and I'm familiar with the process of flashing ROMs. Usually I would follow a guilde to root my device, flash a recovery then use Rom Manager or something similar to flash the latest recovery before trying the ROMs I wanted but the Nook is a little different. I managed to root my Nook, then I tried to use Goo Manager to install TWRP but I could not get the Nook to boot in to recovery after I did. I ended up using a CWM installer .apk to flash CWM 5.x.x. That all went well. I then tried to flash Cyanogen 10.1. It seemed to install fine but when I reboot it starts to show the Cyanogen boot animation then freezes and shuts down. Doing some research it seems like not every recovery works with every rom? I think I also saw somewhere that I need to flash Cyanogen 7 before I do 10? I keep finding random different bits of information all over these forums (some newer some older) and it's hard to find definitive answers. If someone could come in and point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. I would preferably like to flash an up to date recovery where I can try out different ROMs easily as I please without having to flash a new recovery or unbrick my Nook every time. What recoveries do you use and what is your normal ROM flashing process?
You don't need to install CM7 but a CWM 6.x.x is needed. If you have an earlier version CWM you can use that to flash the higher version. Under C in this post I give a link to where I found mine when I did my first CM10 install. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2081981

I'm not sure what link you are referring to, k
But in the one I provide there are links to Verdicts ftp pages. If you go there you need to choose what to download once you're there.

Hello and sorry to post this problem here as i have the tmobile note but i used the att i717 rooting method from rootgalaxynote.com ofcourse did not use an att based rom but a tmobile one( cm10.1 rc2) . The problem is after clearing everything i then proceed to install the new rom using cwm and it says "install aborted" error section 7 ive tried it a few times cleared everything again and still nothing. Dont know if i need to update cwm and if so how vers.5.0.5 or something like that or is it the build which is the lates update by tmo uvlma1 and the instructions were from may of 2012. Please help i have gone back to stock for now as i did backup first. Ps i have installed titanium backup pro and and superuser and have even frozen some of the bloatware from tmo so im guessing i am rooted. Please help as the tmo threads are dead and no help from no one!! Thanks a bunch guys
Just update your recovery dude.
Twrp is superior to cwm imo anyway.
This has been discussed many times. Since you are coming from T-Mobile forum here is a link which was recently discussed. Staus 7 means you need to upgrade your recovery.

You did not check the link and you ignored the other users recommendation.
Recovery from rom manager will not work. Twrp recovery is good for our devicw. Flash twrp and you will be ok. Follow the instruction from link provided

so i download the twrp file and flash through odin? the problem is my phone doesnt stay on. it just boot loops to the samsung logo. sorry for misunderstanding not to go through rom manager. thanks so much osterizerblender for helping me with links just need to know how to do this procedure.
Your phone will stay in download mode to flash a recovery.
Once flashed boot into that every and flash a Rom within.
Put your phone to download mode. Make sure you have drivers installed. Open odin(i used v1.85). Put the twrp recovery tar file in to pda slot. Conect your phone to your computer in download mode. Once odin finds your device then press start.

since I had to go back to cwm-based recovery v5.5.04 in order to restore, then the newest version of cwm is v6.0.1.4. When I use odin it says I have 9 counts, because of the different versions of cwm and twrp ive flashed. Ive google cwm and this cwm-i717-6.0.1.4-20121002-signed I downloaded, it is the one on this forum. I look for it on odin but it doesn't show the file do I have to change the extension cause it only reads tar, md5 and smd or I just install through cwm

That did the job finally after 4 months trying to figure it out off and on, trying different recoveries. I appreciate it
hi,
i probably flashed the wrong rom on my device (yp-gi1cw) and it always boots to recovery now.
i can flash with odin the stock rom. it shows the flash went ok. but it doesnt boot to android. and still keeps to boot to recovery cwm
i can only flash the stock cwm recovery or 5.0.2.7 and see that it really flashed and changed.
i tried original recovery and rom but no luck.
plz help me solve this issue.
thanks in advance.
edit: maybe some one can upload a backup of his working system (with cwm) yp-gi1cw device and ill restore it ? will it work ?

You do realize that this is a forum for GP4.0 and 5.0, which are also not that popular, right?
As for the issue, this sounds a bit similar to what I've encountered when I was first flashing my 4.0. Even Odin won't work properly. Recovery always says some error about /data. In the end I found that 1) I used the wrong PIT file in Odin and 2) after using the right PIT file I still have to manually wipe /data, regardless of these /data errors.
That's all the help I can give for now. Good luck with your 4.2.
