rotate in any direction - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

is there a way to rotate the screen in any direction?

Why? Because the 4g antenna is on the side I hold the tablet. I have been wanting to do this for a while. My signal would be greatly improved if I could rotate it 180 degrees. The placement of the 3g & 4g antenna alone are making me want to break my contract & sell my view. That's the only thing I hate about this tablet, but it's a very important part to me.

Also, I sometimes want to do anything that does not involve using the buttons (read books, watch movies) with the power cable in, my power socket is not always to the right side of me!

[Q] Sensitive Home, Search key..constant launching in landscape mode

When i'm in landscape mode taking photos, playing games.. i find that my palm is accidentally either launching the recent apps screen overlay (from pressing home key a few seconds) or launching the search key. I don't feel like im over doing it. I rest my palm on the bottom right corner. When i now pay attention, I try to hold the Evo 3D in landscape mode with my hands in two C formations facing one another.. so that i dont accidentally launch those quick keys.
Are any of you having this issue too? it's annoying to frame a photo.. and then the Recent Apps screen keeps coming up and I have to back up out of it. Would a case be helpful? possibly looking at one of the TPU cases when they get it back in stock. is there a way to adjust the sensitivity of the keys?
i've done all the OTA's available..
It's normal. Happened on my EVO 4G all the frakking time. You just need to be careful not to touch the capacitive button. You don't actually need to touch the button to activate capacitive button/screens, only be a few microns away.
I also have that problem I'm hoping root will fix it

ok thanks that is unfortunate.. that is exactly what is happening.. just barely a tap on the lower edge triggers it. Wish they could've moved the sensor away form the edge.
My otter box defender stopped that from happening to me. I know this may not be a solution you may like but I'm just throwing it out there. I need the case due to me working on cars as a hobby and I will lay down on my phone while under a car not even thinking about it.

Just wanted to update.. having a TPU case with the raised ridge on the bottom defintely is helping prevent the unwanted "ghost" launches from the Recent Items and Quick Search capacitive buttons.

Teardown Pictures & Hardware Cam Button fix

So I performed pretty much a full teardown. I left the screen in the front of the case, because I didn't really see a point in taking it off.
I had an Otterbox Defender before, but I took it back to Best Buy and picked up the Platinum Surface Case (Blue), so that is in one of the pictures. Everything else is stock.
Anyway, on with the information!
--------------------------------------------------------------
The Camera button is loose! I found out why! The metal bar that runs below the button and the switch is only held in place with two screws that are on the far ends of the button and switch.
When you press down, the button actually bends the bar slightly before pressing fully. When I pressed the button in, it would feel like there were two clicks. Apparently the first click was just the metal button pressing down and touching the actual button (on the chip), and the second click was the actual button press.
I implemented the most ghetto fix ever for this (insert your jokes here). I literally took two thin cuts of packaging cardboard (from a super-glue box), and taped them together. They were about 1/16" thick each, so total it ended up just over 1/8" thick. Then it just rests in-between the metal beam, and the back plate for the phone (the piece the battery rests in). I was thinking of soldering something on, but then it would be a permanent change to the phone, which I didn't want.
The button on my phone is now rock-solid, and doesn't move at all unless pressed in. It now feels solid to the touch, and the only press that happens is the actual camera press. It feels much better now with this, but it makes me laugh to think of how I fixed it.

It is about the easiest thing ever.
It is literally like this:
Camera button
Metal bar
Little ghetto fix
Back piece plastic
There is nothing in-between, and nothing holding it there other than the pressure of the case squeezing it. I didn't want to permanently modify the case. It's just a two pieces of packing cardboard taped together, but anything could be used.
It sits behind where the button is pressed, so it couldn't possibly interfere with the button, and it sits under the back plate of the phone, so it can be taken out if you just pop the back plate off.

Take the back cover off, battery out, SD card out.
Size T5 Torx screwdriver for the 4 corner screws, 2 NO:000 phillips-head screws for the middle two.
Then take a credit card and run it around the corners, and they just pop loose.
You shouldn't have to apply any force to remove it.
To do it though, you do have to break the little "security seal" that's on the bottom right torx screw. They put it there so they can tell if someone has opened up their phone.

Right on thanks much.
Ive owned mine for 2 days & have 7 day disassemble rule so next week I will get it done.
I was under the impression there was supposed to be 2 clicks with the camera button anyway. the first click focus's the camera and the second takes the photo.
Am I missing something?
btw, wish you would of looked a lil more at the 3d-2d switch and seen the reasoning for its loose play front to back. The thing is tight switching from top to bottom(3d->2D) but has lotta play front to back it seems.
sweet pics though, thanks for the tear down!
I'm pretty sure that the two click system was intentional...

You 2 are correct, that 2 click system is there for a reason. One to focus and the 2nd to actually take the picture, much like all digital cameras.

Might be that way, but I feel like it's much more responsive now. Before it would be wobbly and take a few presses before it would actually work, or I'd have to hold the button for a bit. Now the button is much snappier.
The switch isn't loose at all now, it requires a bit of force to move the switch either way. There is a clear click sound whenever it gets pressed either way.

[Q] Random dead spot on screen?

Hi all, sorry my first post is asking for help, but I'm lost on this one.
It doesn't happen all the time, but I randomly get a dead spot on the bottom right corner of my phone.
It happens when I touch the app drawer, and the L key when I'm texting. It only randomly acknowledges I touched the screen.
Restarting the phone usually helps, but does that mean it's software or hardware?
Should I have it replaced?
Stock VZW Note II, no apps installed.
Ty for any and all help.
-edit-
It was replaced for a bad digitizer.
When using Multitouch visibility test, if you put more then 4 fingers on the screen, it locked up the phone requiring removal of the battery.
Perhaps instead of software, could it be heat?
It sounds like a dead/dying pixel to me. If it is only there on certain screens, then probably not, but if its there on say the boot screen or something, then I'd take it back.
silhet ingliil
I'm sorry I should have been more specific.
It's not a screen blemish.
It's when I go to tough the screen.
Like if I hit the L key on the keyboard during a text message, it will only register a touch like 50% of the time.
Or if I touch the app drawer, I have to hit it multiple times to open it up.
The actual screen is perfect, no dead or stuck pixels at all.

I'd return to Verizon, especially if you're not rooted so it won't be any trouble returning to stock etc.
It's probably mildly annoying to you now and it's only going to get worse over time. If there's no physical damage to the phone I don't see them giving you any trouble.

I actually called them, and they told me to just take it back to the store in case the replacement has issues.
Which is troubling to hear.
I have a youtube video demonstrating the problem, but I won't let me post it so ohwell.
Will have to wait til I get 10 posts.
Basically, using multitouch visibility test, I roll my finger around the bottom right corner while never lifting it off, and it won't recognise my trying to touch the specific spot.
After I life my finger and move it around the screen it will recognise the spot. It's very random.
Here's the video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGl9RoBLpjA
-edit-
The youtube tags aren't working?
So what do you all think?
Hardware or software?
After further messing around in Multitouch Visibility test, I can replicate this all over the screen, but it's easiest to do at the bottom right corner where L shows up on the keyboard.

Nah, it was a bad digitizer they said.
Whenever you put multiple fingers on screen, it would lock up, and require yanking the battery to reboot.
When you notice this are you holding the S-pen? I noticed if you get the pen near the screen (close enough for air hover to work) that the screen and buttons quit working to touch. For a little while I thought the home button was having problems, turned out the way I was holding the pen would result in it being placed near the screen when I hit the button.

The main reason I noticed it was when I was texting.
Whenever I went to type words like sleep, or talk, they would be missing the letter L.
Or when I would go to open the app drawer, and it would only work half the time.
All while the pen was in the phone.
The lockup doesn't sound normal but as far as dead spots if you have a screen protector on have you tried removing it? Marginal screen protectors will cause touch input issues.

Poll: Rear buttons; Love them or Hate them?

I'm curious where people rank the rear buttons on the G2 in practice. If you have the phone and have been using it a reasonable amount of time, what's your take on the button placement compared to typical placements of the keys on the side/top etc.
I would prefer side ones. I can't tell which is which on the Verizon version and have to flip the phone around to see

love them. much better than top/side buttons. it just makes sense.
I absolutely love the buttons on the back. For me, the buttons, thin bezel and knock-knock feature all make for a unique and fun experience. Love it.

Thank god for Knock-On, because I rarely touch the volume keys (Tasker automates it for me for most situations) and I have a Power button on my AOKP navbar as I usually avoid the power buttons on phones so I don't wear the out (usually do volume-wake).
the rear keys are extremely useful when i listen to music with wired third party earphone; while my phone is in my pocket, and i want to skip/rewind the songs.
i just put the rear side facing outside, and whenever i feel like changing the song, the button is always within reach without pulling the phone out of my pocket.
unlike most phones with side volume/power key.
and of course i used gravity box to enable those functions.
Rear buttons: fully functional, no accidentally pressing volume n power when holding the sides of phone anymore, easier to take selfie snapshots, knock knock reduces the power button from getting worn out fast, power button doubles as a notification light and glows during a phone call (looks cool at night) and also makes the phone unique (if you're into that).

I always use QuickMemo to take screen shots.
Absolutely love them. I have a case so I keep my index finger on the edge of the button cutout (essentially making sure my finger is by default on the volume down) and then I can easily find which button is which without thinking twice. My hands aren't that big and it's still very comfortable. My dad was a bit skeptical about it and he picked up the phone and noticed his finger just went to the buttons and realized it actually makes sense and isn't just a gimmicky idea.
I would like to see rear buttons as a rule in future phones.
Using for a week and quite comfortable with them. I love knock-on. Problem trying to zoom in camera though!!

Definitely more love.
1) I constantly use a Bluetooth headphone so adjust the volume while the phone is in my front pocket is easy
2) Knock knock is way too cool
3) I seldom even use the power button at all with so much convenience built into the G2 stock UI (Korean F320S) Anyway Kit Kat is out for F320S
What back buttons?
Honestly, I don't even notice the back buttons since I use the knock knock feature.
The only times I used the buttons is for volume adjustment when I'm watching a video. Even then, I don't even see it as an inconvenience.
I have slight OCD so I avoid using the buttons so they don't waste. They seem as if the paint would rub off after to much use.

I thought the "Take picture with power button" function in the stock ROM was hilarious; who could possibly do that? Selfies I guess, but using the rear camera, that'd be almost impossible with any kind of normal position on the phone.

I have to agree. Knock-on is one of the most unexpectedly awesome (for me at least) features I've had in a phone in a long time, and I almost never use my power button.
I must say that it's a good thing knock-on is great though, cause the button layout on my VS980 is terrible. It seems like a simple fix like moving the power button next to the volume buttons would have fixed this, and made the buttons more distinct feeling. Putting it in the middle of the volume buttons make it impossible to tell which button you are pressing.

Volume button

Got the tablet today, my up volume button barely protrudes, but the annoying part is I can barely feel it. I can barely press it, and i have to click it with my nail. I can use my thumb too if I try but there is just no 'click' or feedback
Is this normal? Anyone else ? Wondering if I should replace it or live with it

please list model, color and place of purchase.
Mine is the same. 32GB White version direct from Google. I can use it without my nail but still barely protrudes.
Yeah same, 32GB black from Google. I have to take a second or two to press the volume up at times..
Its a 16 GB Black, from best buy
Its pretty annoying, not sure its worth exchanging yet. I always get some bad first batch luck (Nexus 7 and screen lift etc. hah)
Im constently searching for the buttons
Maybe a software solution can help.
A toggle in the quick pull down menu.
Anyway i will be putting a case around it.
Lets see wat happens.
Oh my word... Will it ever end?! I have never read so many negative things about a device in my life. I have two of these things en-route to me, and honestly, I'm feeling like I've just wasted my money. What a let-down this has been. I can only hope and pray that somehow, mine don't suffer from any of these issues. Judging by the number of people complaining, I can't see that happening.
Mine protrudes actually quite a bit and I don't need nails to activate it. Seems like there is a lot of variation here... Why can't QC be higher? Seems like they rushed this out tbh, and software doesn't seem entirely finished either. Random lags are annoying, ART doesn't really feel any faster than Dalvik.
Same. Just got my nexus 9 and the volume buttons are so hard to click... I got the n9 16gb black from hk play store... Also got some light bleed on edge of screen. And it gets quite hot in the middle after using for a while.
Kinda disappointed as I have the nexus 7 and 10 and thought it'd be a worthy addition to the family...
Hopefully some of these issues can get fixed

I have the same issue. Volume down and power buttons both have a tactile feel and 'click' when they are pushed. My volume up button is recessed slightly lower and has no 'click' to it. If not for the volume notification I would not even know that I was pressing it. The entire volume bar is slanting inward to the point where it is almost flush with the frame at the edge of the volume up side. The power key also has this same slant in it. Combined with the fact that the processor runs very hot (compared to my n7 and n5 and other android devices), I'm starting to feel like I got suckered by this whole "Premium Android Device" pitch...
I have the 32gb white wifi model
same issue
16gb black wifi from best buy. power button not completely straight with some play in it that wiggles. up volume button more flush than the down and hard to press easily without good feedback

I tried convincing myself it was ok.
It's not. A $500+ device should not have the flaws that I experienced.
Micro-stutters in the O/S, even outside of apps.
A volume up button that is practically inside the tablet, requiring a fingernail to depress. No tactile feedback on press.
Plugging USB in and attempting a file transfer makes the device unresponsive and a corner of the device heats up so much that there is no way it's normal (it's not scalding hot... but it is "very" warm).
lightbleed
This is a device I paid close to $600 for after tax+s/h. It practically performs worse than my 2012 Nexus 7. Completely unacceptable.
RMA for refund has been approved.
Buying this device right now is a total lottery/crapshoot.
My advice: RMA your device.
Manufacturing batch of my unit: HT4AB (32GB - via google play store purchase at Oct 17 launch)
Same here, lower volume and power button are clicky, but the top volume is so flush and have zero feedback. White 32gb playstore Canada. So far, lightbleed, volume rocker, lockscreen loop when charging, screen flickering, noise from the top speaker when closing the camera app and random heating when browsing in Chrome... RMA!
Got mine today, volume button is flush with the device at the top. Tried talking to Play store about rma, but they refused saying it cannot be done unless it stops working.
Nexus 9 power/volume button.
I am in the same situation. Pushing those buttons without looking is a challenge enough. Now, try taking screenshots. Nearly impossible. When pushing the buttons with a flat surface like end of a pen, function will not trigger, because actual click happens when the button is already inside of the frame. I did try asking Google for RMA, but because buttons are still functional, warranty doesn't apply. I love the device, but for more than $500, it should not have problems like this.
I have to say that ios system is better
Perhaps it's flush on purpose who you don't accidentally press it while in landscape mode? I hate the tablets that have the buttons sticking out...makes the buttons easy to accidentally press.

Is this normal? Anyone else ? Wondering if I should replace it or live with it
Thankss
Click to collapse
I have the problem.. And i have solved it by sticking 2-3 layers of sticker(black color)of the same dimensions of the buttons... .. Now just feeling good
