I just can't keep up with my Sprint bill anymore. I'm financially ****ed.
Anyway. I want to call them up and perhaps see if they can switch me to a boost plan. One that is cheaper and that I would have to pay each month. This way I can't duck out and it wouldn't be considered defaulting. Is this very possible??? I hope they will help me.
Next question would be where can I start reading up on how to switch my Evo 3D from Sprint to Boost network. Any tips? Thanks!

Are you by chance on a family plan and getting a discount? If so, you still have time to call them up and tell them about their billing changes. This would get you out of the EFT and can then port numbers out.
A little Google search found some videos and links on setting the evo 3D to the boost network.

You're going to need a good reason or issue to be let off the hook. They can't transfer you to Boost as it is pre- paid and a different company. (Same corporation, different company). So you're gonna get hit with a etf unfortunately.

What if I'm off contract now more or less. Signed up with original EVO. Have a 3D now. Is there a pre paid plan with 4G? Or anything cheaper than their single everything plan? I might see if I can take over my girlfriends SERO plan. She wants a Windows Mobile phone as she works for MS. And that one Sprint offers doesn't cut it. Gave her my EVO when she got me the 3D. I live in Seattle. Thanks!

Saw a billboard this morning on the way to work for MetroPCS with 4G LTE.
what worked for me..
started out with a super cheap used boost mobile phone then changed to a TP2 on boost with the swap the phone out activation.
1.5 yrs later bought a used donor phone and a bad esn EVO3d.
you have a few choices at this step, you can pay someone to program for you via teamviewer, mail both phones to someone to do it.
or
do LOTS of reading online to compile all the info you need to do it yourself,
or
take a chance and buy a guide from someone.
I did all of the above.
I wish I could be more specific but I don't think the forum rules allow it.

Flash a Verizon prl n use crazy amounts of data. Sprint will let u go for free. There is also a guide on the droid incredible thread that's pretty complete....look for the open sesame trick u probably b good to go with one of the guides...

to get out of ETF u can claim your in military service and being deployed/redepolyed to Europe asia etc(theyll ask you if u want to put your account on standby indefinitely tell them no obviously) they'll then ask for ssn dob and such but not much else(AFAIK they didn't verify anything just noted it down)
can also claim u have moved to somewhere out of there coverage area be creative and ensure wherever u claim is indeed out of the coverage area u may have to show a bill or drivers license with a new address but that is uber easy to photoshop with templates floating on darknets/clearnet as well if u look hard enough
For flashing u need a "donor" phone on the network with a clean ESN u wish to be on i.e. (Verizon,Boost,Metropcs,Cricket) then u have to repair your Evo3d's ESN with the info from "Donor" phone the exact method/s are complicated and not allowed to be posted afaik
pm if u want some guides i found floating around the interwebs
Can't he just roam for a couple of weeks on virizon prl they should kick him loose

(memo is in the link above)
Like dominoes, Sprint's consumer-friendly policies continue to fall one at a time. Citing "high costs," the Now Network will begin discontinuing its practice of allowing customers to upgrade their phone 10-14 days prior to the official date of eligibility. According to the memo leaked by TechnoBuffalo, the program will cease to exist as of June 1st. It sounds like this policy change is an unfortunate consequence of the company's large investments in iPhones and its still-dormant LTE network. It may not be enough to convince many Sprint customers to jump ship, but this isn't the first cost-cutting measure put forth by Dan Hesse's team -- and we have a hard time believing it will be the last. We've reached out to Sprint for official comment and will update you as soon as we have word.

not sure why this is that big of a deal? is that really that much of an incentive?
unless your early eligibility window directly coincided with a major phone release (like the iphone5 which i hear has the same cloaking capability as Predator and is run by cold fusion with a display that beams directly to your brain) and you HAVE to be the first one to get it...then who cares if you have to wait until you are actually eligible for the upgrade to get it??

Yes it will definitely happen at some point. everywhere the iPhone goes eliminates the "unlimited Data Plan".
Verizon today also said that they're no longer allowing people to be grandfathered in. So no unlimited for anyone.
But i agree, this isn't that big of news too me but it is somewhat heartbreaking to see. First they destroyed the Premiere Members plan and now this.

IMO that'd be their kiss of death. It's the ONLY advantage they have compared to ATT and VZ. With all the other niggling changes (the change in how discounts are applied, the change in how shared plans are accounted for, etc) they are barely ahead of VZ in price for me (4 4G phones - what where's 4g?? - and 1 basic phone, and i can get away with 4gb data most months no problem) and if the network doesn't get better, i'm gone, let alone how fast I'd bail if they limited their unlimited...

I still do not believe that iPhone has made connection slow for others and Sprint has said (if their truth to it or not) that iPhone has not slowed down data speeds for us other phones.
iPhone is not the problem, it's people who are with VZW who obviously don't mind paying a premiere price for their phone bills. Sprint is playing catch up with these other companies and becoming more and more of a elite company. no more of this VZW>ATT>SPRINT crap. they will be the 3 headed monsters in due time

True but reverse the question, does it hurt Sprint to keep something that small of a perk?
It probably cost more money to update the staff & the system on the few minutes they took to address it.

Very possible it will. I've read an article (PCWorld, I think it was) that explained it clearly. Each carrier purchases/rents a certain amount of data spectrum. Verizon and AT&T started throttling and limiting data because usage on their respective spectrums were getting close to the limit. NOW, taking that into consideration, Sprint very literally owns/rents half of the spectrum that Verizon and AT&T do. So, what does that tell you? Eventually, even though they are not ready to state it publicly, chances are Sprint will abandon unlimited data.

True story, sir.
The thing is that Sprint always releases their flagship HTC phone in about the middle of May. Many people's upgrade date is June 1st, so that 14 days allows people who want to upgrade have the ability too pre-order. Now I hope that Sprint and HTC work together and make their flagship phone released on June 1st.

Honestly guys do you really think the Iphone is what pulls in the data? I'll give you an example. With my evo 3D, I pulled in over 9GB's last month on 3G and a little 4G(no torrenting) but both of my sisters own the iphone and they used 4 GB's together on our shared plan. One is somewhat tech-savvy but is on it constantly while the other uses it mainly for phone and pandora. Most iphone users don't know how to rape the unlimited data plans like I do. It's only going to be unlimited for so long so why not use it up. You want to complain you should complain to the average user on this site. We are the people using up the data not most of the iphone users.

I'd rather not look at it as a "use as much as I can while it's still free" situation. If I need to download something significant, I'll use my home computer on broadband. I rarely download new ROMs directly with my phone. I'd rather not contribute to Sprint even having to consider throttling by only downloading what I need to with my phone so I can use more when I really have to.

sprint shouldn't consider throttling because people are downloading things with their phone, thats the whole point of havnig an unlimited data plan, to not have to nit pick when and which files to download
it'd be different if i was downloading movies to my phone, to then transfer to my computer instead of just using my computers broadband, but why wouldn't a user with unlimited data download a file through the phone, when the file is for the phone?
lets all stop streaming music also, i mean we could download it with our computers, then transfer it to our phones, then make a playlist, that'd save sprint from having to throttle!

Looking for recommendations. What to expect, ect...
Been pleased with my Droid X and Verizon's coverage but unhappy with their new upgrade policy causing me to lose unlimited data, fees, ect...
I can also get a 23% Ford Dealership discount with Sprint.
Per their coverage maps, it doesn't appear like I would be losing much if any via at work or home.
So:
Is the EVO mentioned a decent upgrade over the Droid X?
Is the EVO unlockable? - I do see it is rootable and modable.
Can the EVO be setup to "Tether" my Android Tablet on occasion as I can with my Droid?
Any other tips or suggestions I should be aware of?
Thanks so much in advance for hopefully some encouraging and helpful responses in aiding to my decision to make the BIG switch from Verizon (been with them 10+ years) to Sprint! :fingers-crossed:

Its the best choice for and upgrade out right now and it is unlockable via HTC dev unlock and if u get the first hboot.(.12 I believe) you can via lazy panda

>Is the EVO mentioned a decent upgrade over the Droid X?
Yes, it is. One of my good friends has a Droid X, so I used it quite a bit when he was rooting it, and I've seen him using it a lot. The Evo 3D is better than the Droid X, and this phone is leaps ahead of the Evo 3D. The screen on this phone is much, much better than the screen on the Droid X, resolution and quality-wise.
>Is the EVO unlockable? - I do see it is rootable and modable.
If you get an EVO that hasn't been updated beyond the bootloader version 1.12, you can use LazyPanda to S-OFF it, giving you full control of the device. If the phone you get is running an updated bootloader (highly likely if you're purchasing it new), you will only be able to use the HTC Dev unlock method. This method will still allow you to flash ROMs, but you won't be able to flash radios. On top of that, if you want to flash a new kernel or a ROM that requires a different kernel (IE: Going from a Sense ROM to CM10 requires you to have an AOSP-based kernel) you'll have to use fastboot to flash it, or a program like Flash IMG GUI. If you don't do that, you won't be able to boot the phone after flashing the ROM.
If you're lucky and you can S-OFF your phone, you won't have to worry about that though.
>Can the EVO be setup to "Tether" my Android Tablet on occasion as I can with my Droid?
Do you mean as a Wi-Fi tether? Yes, it can. I believe there are even non-root solutions for that now. You can pay through Sprint to get it, or just use a third party app to do it.
>Any other tips or suggestions I should be aware of?
A tip: Get a case. It doesn't have to be an Otterbox Stupid Huge 3000, but at least something that covers the phone a bit. I have this case and it's great. It doesn't add much bulk to the phone but it at least keeps it safe. I know that the Droid X is a tank of a phone that can withstand just about anything (I've seen my friend literally throw his phone at the floor and pick it up right afterwards with no problems), but this phone is a bit more delicate. You can go without a case if you want, but if you get the right case, you'll hardly even notice it.
My case is great because it helps me hold the phone. It's so thin and tall that it's a bit slippery in your hand. The case solves that problem.
Another tip, is to be prepared for a watered down multitasking experience if you keep your phone stock or run Sense ROMs. I've seen mentions of developers making progress on improving it, but HTC tweaked the multitasking on this phone to be very aggressive, which causes apps to close themselves after a while. If you plan to run AOSP ROMs then you won't have to worry about that, and I'm sure the devs will fix it on Sense ROMs soon enoug.
Thanks to both posters for the added info. Looking into the process and trying to get "hooked up" to somehow get the BS activation fees waived of $36 which a Buddy of mine was able to pull off, although he went with the I-phone (blah) and another thing he said in order to get the insurance on the phone, had to pay an up front fee of $100 which covers the I-phone for life. Is this how sprint handles insurance on the Android Evo or is there another option similiar to what I'm paying Verizon with the extra $6 a month for Assuron or whatever??
Thanks again for all the help!

Thanks! I currently had already went with the latest "meanrom" per other poster above. I did update all my kernal/radio ect... also as per discussion in the meanrom thread. All seems to be going well so far other than the dam "Roaming" triangle showing constantly at my workplace which is supposed to be dead center within and "Excellent" Sprint coverage area. Otherwise, I'm a little put out that I only get one bar in my home - I'm supposed to be on the fringe of a "Good" to "Fair" area as per the coverage map there. Time will tell. The rep did offer me something called AirAve that assists weak connections via my broadband cable internet connection as a possible option after 60 days of ****ty service if so required. I'm also signed up for their "Home Connect" as I didn't have a home # any longer and had just relied on my Verizon Wireless Droid X for all my calls. As my understanding this just adds $20 per month for the line charge with unlimited in/outbout calling AND gave me $100 off my EVO since I ended up with a total of 3 lines of service (add my girlfriend's LGE Rezound or whatever....)
Whew! This is getting to be quite the chore getting switched over. So far my impressions. Better phone in the EVO vs Droid X but ****tier / sporadic coverage. :silly:
Now that they have access to their 800mhz block they can kick up the vision roll out which is better for everyone

If you are talking about an option to upgrade and stay on Verizon Unlimited, the answer is no. The sole and main reason I left them.

Yes, to om4: Please do post your guide right here in my thread if you would. I am very interested in any and all information regarding SPRINT and what to expect and what not to expect. I have 14 days to piss with this until I'm locked in as I'm told.
I have no idea what the 800mhz block is and if it would even make it to my area? I live in Western PA - Hermitage 16148 to be exact and work in New Castle PA, 16105 if that is helpful to anything and knowledge of the 800mhz block...
I've already been told that 4G is not even on the landscape (map) currently for any of my area.
The 800mhz spectrum is what Verizon currently uses it provides better coverage. Sprint has 800mhz spectrum as well but its currently being used by nextel. Sprint has been preparing to make the switch to use the 800mhz spectrum for some time. It provides better signal penetration. My guide is in the thread named don't panic, it pertains to android rather then sprint lol

I wonder when this rollout to the 800mhz will take place. The only thing my local rep mentioned was something about two new towers going up between 4 to 8 miles from my residence in the coming future.
I think its part of the vision roll out but I'm not sure, another member posted instructions to force the lte to use the 800mhz spectrum and it worked for a few people but the majority who tried it got stuck roaming on Verizon

Yikes! Was that reversable for those people and where are the instructions in case I get brave? :cyclops:
I wouldnt recommend it, it broke roaming for a lot of people and it took a bit of tinkering before someone found a fix. I dont remember what it was either. Something in build.prop
I have dug around quite a bit and cannot seem to find any cut and dry method of what I want/need to do. My intent is as follows.
I am thinking about switching to Ting. They are a Sprint MVNO. With my usage, I should be saving a lot of money. They sell the EVO LTE, but I have one that is 6 months old. Would rather not spend that money again. Although, I could sell my old one. it is still mint.
They do permit BYOD with certain phones. the EVO 4G (WiMAX) is one of them. Which I activated as a test phone. What I would like to do is use the activated EVO 4G as a Donor phone in order to get me Evo LTE live in its place. I know it is possible, just out of my grasp at this time. And from what it sounds, Sprint is not allowing them to BYOD any LTE devices as of yet but will be in the future. When that times comes, I would revert the EVO LTE back so as to gain LTE coverage.
The best thing, if you are not familiar with Ting, is that they have zero issues with "hacking" phones to get them on their system.
I proof read this a few times, corrected many errors...forgive me if it is still out of whack. Blame my fever. Loving it.
I think what you are asking is to make the system think your LTE is the other EVO, and if that's what you're wanting to do then I think in essence you'd have to change the LTE's mein and other such info. Basically "cloning" your LTE with the other EVO's info.

which is actually against all the rules in this forums lols. i understand what your trying to do, but i don't know if this forum can help you, even if a whole bunch of people would i think. your better off just using the OG evo for a bit until the LTE is allowed.
Exactly... In fact not only not gonna get that info in this forum but good luck getting that info in any forum since to do that is very illegal. Like stated, just use OG EVO for a bit

Yea u can do it! Telling you how to clone ur meid is the illegal part. But every other step u would need to set ur phone up on ting is legal to share. There r numerous guides on flashing to boost or whatever on xda. Those guides just omit the meid part. Not to hard to find if u look..

I currently have a rooted HTC Evo 4G LTE with Sprint, the contract is over and Sprint no longer wants to offer unlimited data. So it is time for me to find a new provider, a new phone.
Which provider has the best 4G LTE signal, which would be the best phone.
My requirements are that the phone be able to be rooted, and that I have control of the bootloader.
As far as I know HTC is the only bootloader that you can have control.
I think I want to go with T-Mobile, since they have a sensible unlimited plan...which would be the best phone for this project.

I switched over to T-Mobile and a n5. Fabulous coverage and insane speeds. Although of course T-Mobile coverage isn't as great as Verizon and AT&T. Check sensorly for your area. But I do highly recommend T-Mobile. Also, Nexus boot loader isn't controllable. But the amount of development for the device is through the roof. If you're a flashaholic like me, then the n5 is the phone for you.

Why is sprint making you change your plan? Did you go to the store? Because upgrading doesn't always entail a new plan, if you went to the store they may be trying to sell you more than the phone. Just my 2 cents.

Maybe they were promoting their new Easy Pay plans.

That's exactly what they're doing. However, contact Sprint before you purchase a new phone and inform them that you would like to be grandfathered into your old plan. From what I was told, this can be done, but only BEFORE you purchase a new phone.
Given, you'll still deal with the Easy Pay, but same plan. You could also possibly just get your phone from Best Buy Mobile and still get a phone under the normal discounted rates for a two year plan.
I've heard that the Easy Pay is the new plan for everyone, and Sprint with no longer issue contracts, but month-to-month service. Payments for your phone will be divided over a course of 2yrs, I think, but it is not the same as an actual plan. You will have to pay the remaining balance for you phone as opposed to a termination fee.
I'm not sure how I feel about that...they told me that I can upgrade through Easy Pay, but I need to speak to them in person to find out the actual details and the benefits.

From what I've just experienced, you don't have to do easy pay. I changed my plan to the new "my way" plan and I can get my upgraded device anyway I want. I could use easy pay or purchase it outright at the discounted rate. I also have the option to use a third party vendor, like wirefly or on Amazon, which is what I'm doing. With easy pay, as it was explained to me by sprint rep, you pay a small amount up front. Then they bill you monthly, over 24 months and you end up paying full (non discounted) price for the device you choose. But I didn't have to change my plan, I chose to.

Easy Pay sounds similar to the now-defunct "One-Up" plan. I believe you had to pay the taxes on the full, non-discounted price up front when upgrading, and then paying for the phone over the next two years, as I recall. Any remaining balance at the end of the two year period had to be paid in full.

I'm kind of hesitant to switch to another carrier mainly because of what is going on with a merger between them and T-mobile. T-mobile recently bought all of Verizon's 700MHz bandwidth, meaning better LTE coverage for Sprint as soon as the merger goes through, if it goes through at all.
I am skeptical about the success of the merger. Sprint will finally be a powerhouse, and I don't think that the regulators want that to happen.
I'm curious about what all the last 2 posters are privy to. I'm about to upgrade my device, and when I look on sprint site, it would be only 100$ for n5 or HTC One. But I went to sprint store and it was 50$ + 16/no and get 12/mo upgrade, but will also F up all other lines on my family plan. I don't wanna pay monthly for device, I wanna pay up front and forget about it, but I do want 12moupgrades.
All that said,on a 25mi trip, I just compared my LTE speed tests with my girls tmo speed tests, and hers were consistently higher than mine. And her device is a 4yr old pyramid that doesn't even have radios to accept tmo LTE. But hers kicked my ass. I wanna hear from anyone who has ideas on how to test them, or any secret info about why they think sprint may be about to be awesome. Again, while my LTE service speed tested about 3mbps on avg, her old tmo (no LTE) consistently got way better than my LTE in same places.
Word love tohearsome thoughts, cuz I'm ready to jump ship.

My thoughts on this: if the merge was ever to come to pass, then you would technically be starting over as a new customer with Sprint. While I don't think that the merge will be successful, just keep that in the back of your mind.
More importantly, how is voice service with Tmo compared to Sprint? Which had more dead/low signal zones? And which device gives you better service at home? Yes, data is vital, but these are still phones, primarily. You have no idea how much you need good voice service until it starts to mess up, then you'll wish that you didn't make the jump.
Try using different apps, like SignalCheck Lite from the play store to compare the signal difference in various locations. Use both phones to leave voicemails on a third phone (land line or cell phone, doesn't matter), and replay both to see which is clearer. This last test will be a little skewed, of course, since you are using two different devices, and your LTE has newer tech inside it.
Lastly, if you want to make the jump, just take the time to test the Tmo network (or any other network) before you decide. This is not the type of mistake that you will want to regret. On another note, if the money being saved is worth the potential aggravation, then go for it. I'm not bashing Tmo in any way whatsoever, for I have been considering making the jump as well, but I'm quite comfortable with my Sprint service, and the repair center that I go to tends not to ask too much questions. Just don't bring them a rooted phone, and all is well.
Appreciate the lengthy feedback. My nearest sprint repair center loves seeing the cool sh1t on the ROMs I bring in, lol. Lucky me. That said, tmo looks like it'd be a little cheaper, not much. But their data speeds, even on 3g are 20x faster than the LTE I get from sprint. So many pros, so many Con's. Actually, they'll pay my etf, and there aren't many Con's. Prob be switching soo. And yearly upgrades, which I like. That said, I like that sprint leans on OEMZs t9 get the hardware they know customers want.

You've sparked my interest. How does T-Mobile do data? Is it truly unlimited? Or do they cap your speed after a certain usage?
