I was just wondering, coz my wife has a Motorola Photon 4G, I saw that you can use the Blur widgets on ADW EX or basically any launcher, (social media, messaging, weather tc.) and I want to use ADW EX on my phone but I cant use the HTC widgets. So the question is,
* Is there a way to install Blur widgets on the EVO3D if so, how?
* Is there a way to use the Sense widgets without the sense launcher?
let me know guys! thanks

Install Blur widgets on the EVO 3D. Widgets are packaged the same as applications, in .apk files. .apk files are basically just a wrapper like a .zip is a wrapper.
If they are compatible, you should be able to install the blur widgets the same way you would install any other application on the EVO 3D.
It does surprise me the moto blur widgets work in other launchers, that is impressive on behalf of moto putting the extra time/code in to make them compatible with other launchers.
I don't think there is anyway to use sense widgets w/o the sense launcher...at least I haven't seen anything posted. I think the sense widgets use sense launcher/framework files. Perhaps they could be portable? But not sure how difficult/time consuming the process would be.
Hope that helps point in the right direction!
Yeah, I tried extracting them and installing the apks as if theyre just regular apps, but its just giving me errors, also tried adding them to root system/apps folder, it shows that theyre installed but when you add widgets, its not there. I dont know much about this type of things. any ideas? i think you have to edit or maybe add something else here.
Pretty sure you need the blur framework in order to run any blur widgets. So, without a blur port I doubt it's possible.

What errors do you receive? Can you copy/paste/type up here or copy/paste/type up into pastebin.com and link?

This is definitely how the HTC widgets work and wouldn't surprise me if the moto blur widgets worked the same. If their framework files were separate from the system framework files, it would be easier to port but if they combine their framework files with the android framework files it will take much longer to sort out which is moto and which is android ...
Let us know what type of errors you're receiving. My gut feeling says they aren't, but *maybe* they are something simple! Hope that makes sense and helps!

It just dawned on me now that I am using Launcher Pro that when I long press, I no longer get the option to add a Samsung Widget to my home screen.
Any way around this?
... other than just going back to stock launcher ?
Nope. The Samsung widgets are part of TouchWiz.

So are many other elements of the device (notification panel, different contacts app, etc etc etc). Using another launcher app does not disable Touchwiz as a whole, its just a new launcher. The widgets are still <i>there</i> I'm just not able to get to them right now, so I'm hoping maybe someone is able to yank the APK or something so we're able to use them in non-default launchers.
They were written to be recognized and used by the Touchwiz launcher, they're not compatible with the ASOP launcher which is why they won't show up with other launchers. HTC Sense widgets have the same issue, and aside from completely rebuilding them, they haven't really found a way around it.

um, no they're not. As I am using the LauncherPro Beta right now. The notification panel is stock, the contact is stock everything is stock except the dock bar at the bottom, which is different and better and the drawer which Is 3D!!! I love it.

That is exactly what I was saying.
Using a different launcher (i.e. LaunderPro) does not "disable TouchWiz" and therefore you should still be able to use the TouchWiz widgets. Everything else is still there and TouchWiz is most definitely still there, running, etc... changing the Launcher is not disabling TouchWiz.

it does disable touchwiz. touchwiz is the launcher app. so when your not in touchwiz, you don't have it.
just like unless your on the sense home, you don't get the sense widgets.
the touchwiz widgets require the touchwiz launcher.
don't bother asking or repeating again because there is simply no way to make it work short of rebuilding the entire app as has been said.
Touchwiz and the touchwiz launcher are two different things.
You cannot "disable touchwiz" without flashing a custom rom. It IS the modified OS.
You are right that the widgets are built into the twlauncher apk, so you can't use them in any other launcher.
Let's be sure we aren't confusing touchwiz with twlauncher...
touchwiz is a skin on top of the android os just like sense is.......you disable the touchwiz launcher then everything associated with touchwiz is disabled only giving access to basic android widgets.
Oh lawrdy, the fighting...
When I was using launcher pro I couldn't use samsung widgets, but the apps were unaffected.. So just disabling touchwiz launcher disables the widgets (or makes them harder to use at least) but the apps with the phone (including the notification bar) keep going...
So even if you just disable the launcher, you lose the widgets (unless they are just hiding because the samsung widget button was gone and they weren't in my regular widget are either)
im no dev here and my coding knowledge is minimal so sorry if i sound stupid saying this, but if the twlauncher is integrated to the framework, couldnt someone use a modify a launcher replacement by kanging some code from the twlauncher so the launcher replacement utilizes the framework or is it much more complicated than that?

Okay ladies Ill explain all lol, disabling the touchwiz launcher does in no way effect the widgets but you cannot use them in other launchers because they are not programmed to recognize them touchwiz itself is the custom framework that samsung has created for this phone, so if a dev enabled it you could use them in any launcher as long as the system/framework/twframework.jar and twframework-res.apk are there along with some key files in the sytem/lib folder to associate them to the system so really the launcher is nothing but a pretty blind over the window if you will and in no way stops you from using the widgets other than the other launchers are not programmed to look for them.
Was wondering if anyone tried this or found a smiliar fix for the stupid lockscreen blocking the wallpaper. I can tollerate or even appreciate much of everything else in this version of Sense, everything except my animated wallpaper getting blocked by this crap
try downloading from market two apps, one called no lock so u can disable the sense lockscreen then download an app called simply lockscreen, you can choose the transparency to what you want so your background will show thru, love it!
You can also use Root Explorer and delete the HTClockscreen.apk and ODEX file. You will have a transparent lockscreen with the stock ASOP sliders...
well i perma rooted phone thanx to visionary & deleted the HTCLockscreen apk & odex file.
yet I still get the lockscreen, even when i delete and immediately reboot.. THE HTCLOCKSCREEN APK & ODEX FILES COME BACK IN /system/apps !!
wtf am I doing wrong? lol - did this whole rooting thing before on older android phone yet the lockscreen that won't die is making me feel like a n00b
also read on here that Titanium Backup can also force out HTC Lockscreen to Froyo default but don't know what app name it falls under in the huge list of apps on my phone since i don't see anything obvious like "HTC Lockscreen" or anything of the sort.

make sure youre deleting the apk from /system/app and that youre mounted in R/W that worked for me now i have the transparent AOSP lockscreen. but understand that if you delete this apk your stock alarm wont function properly and you will have to download an aftermarket app from the market. for some reason HTC tethered the stock alarm into the HTClockscreen.apk lol so it goes off when its set to go off but you cant dismiss the alarm afterwards lol
Is there any way to make it NOT be transparent but rather with a black background, (or possibly other configurable setting, such as settings -> personalize -> lockscreen background)? The transparency looks not so good as the desktop widgets come through and the texts overlay one another.
I renamed the HtcLockScreen.apk (I have the deodexed ice glacier rom) in /system/app but ended up putting it back because it caused me to have convulsions for it to be transparent.

lol yes yes and yes i have R/W mounted in the root folder (otherwise it wouldn't let me delete anything lol). and i do go in that exact folder and for the moment those two files are deleted
yet the moment turn screen off and bring it back up... there's the dreadful lock screen of HTC's even tho the files are deleted. and upon rebooting the phone (hard or quick reboot) they magically appear
is everyone who deleted these two files with success using a secondary ROM? Because I'm still on the default ROM since.. well I still like much of the default ROM outside of course... this cursed lockscreen
You have s=off ? If you don't, even though you're remounting /system as rw, it might not be writing back out to flash memory if s=on. Just a thought.

more then a mere thought, it's the fix that finally works!
went through all these steps except the visionary stuff that I already did to get root and after deleting those two HTCLockscreen files & rebooting, whala!
of course I'm now seeing the issue folks was talking about with seeing the homescreen icons/widgets through the lockscreen but i feel like progress was made still. thanks all!
How can you hide the homescreen icons, dock, and activities from the clear sliding lock acreen after deleting the htclockscreen file?
not sure about Espresso/Stock but on the Desire HD and Desire Z ROMs the only thing that shows through is the wallpaper (static or LWP whatever you have set), no icons or widgets.
Well those phones arent the one with the issue, the g2 has the stock lockscreen I want.
I deleted the htclockscreen.apk but not the htclockscreen.odex and I do get the transparent lockscreen with the sliders people mention, (idk what's the point of deleting the odex file if it works fine by just deleting the apk) I also get the icons, widgets etc. being displayed in the lockscreen as well. This is my main issue. Is there a way to fix the settings of the ASOP lockscreen that has been aquired by deleting the htclockscreen.apk? How? If not can I just flash a zip of a ASOP lockscreen instead, that way its not been modified by htc?

I wan't talking about the phones, i was talking about the ROMs that have been ported from their stock versions to run on our phones. Stock they are running HTC Sense without the TMO Espresso overlay on top of it. I was pointing out that on Stock Sense deleting the HTCLockscreen.apk it gets you have the "stock" G2/AOSP screen like what you are wanting where you can see your wallpaper image or your LWP running behind the locksliders without seeing all your icons and widgets. so if you (like myself) prefer Sense over AOSP/CM but prefer the AOSP lockscreen sliders, then switching to one of eVil D's or Gr8Gorilla's Desire HD ports or eVil D's Desire Z port will let you have exactly what you are trying to do. and it's not just this phone... my wife's phone and my backup phone the MT3G-Slide which also runs Espresso over Sense has the same issue on the stock ROM. it is an issue with Espresso.

Thank you guys both responses are really helpful ( : I actually made a combination of both evil d's desire z port and the updated zip found on post #48 of the thread of the link provided lol,
"THANKS, worked like a charm!!! Here's the updated zip file. Attached Files Really_Trans.arrows.Lockscreen.zip (3.1 KB, 50 views)"
It works really nicely, except the lockscreen music widget is shifted to the right when music is being played when
the transparent lockscreen zip has been applied. Stock rom or port rom of desire z.

differences between eVil D's HD port is that it is using a newer baseband for the build and some of the themes ported for gorilla's ROM have issues with eVil's ROM. but there is a thread over on the D-HD board that has a bunch of themes/skins that work with both CAN BE FOUND HERE, just download the ones you like and install them (not flash but install using a file manager like Astro). the only major/noticeable difference between the D-HD and D-Z that I found is that the D-HD only has portrait mode for the home screen when using stock/Sense launcher (like our stock/Espresso ROM), where as the D-Z home screen will rotate between portrait and landscape depending on how you're holding the phone.

Wow that was a fast reply. I'm gonna sound like a total noob, what's baseband? Does it mean
Like signal strength? So should I use evil d's Rom instead because it'll have faster speeds?
Also I noticed gr8gorilla has the genius button app installed in his d-hd rom while the other two roms from evil d don't.

Things like the circle battery and anything on the taskbar are either going to be part of a rom or a theme. You can do them individually yourself but you would have to do some research on theming. You also need to be rooted with s-off. If you like a more stock look rather than sense launchers like launcher pro from the market offer a lot of themes and icon packs that can be installed with or without root.

Im currently rooted S-Off running Bamf 3.0 Sence RC4.9 what exactly are launchers? Sorry just trying to figure out what everything is...
A launcher is what runs the whole user interface. Home screens, dockbars, icons, and shortcuts. HTC phones comes with sense. (except the g1, g2, and nexus 1) Sense is actually more than just the launcher its a while UI overlay. Sense's launcher is really called rosie but that's not really important here unless you are planing on learning to theme. If you look in the market there are launchers like Launcher Pro, ADW, and their variants plus many more. Just search launchers and try one out. When you press your home button it will let you choose sense or whichever other launcher you have installed. If you try one just read the instructions and play around with it. Plus search the market for themes built for the launcher you d/l. (for example...search ADW themes in the market) Everything on your sense screens will remain the same. If you want to stick with sense 3.0 that comes with BAMF 3.0 try some BAMF themes. I would check out rootzwiki or teambamf.net. I doubt you will find them here.

Agreed. Widgetlocker is awesome.
You can always default to ICS AOSP lockscreen built into ANY sense Rom.
Use estrongs or root explorer.
Navigate to system/app
Find htclockscreen.apk
Rename to htclockscreen.apk.bak
Check out your new lock screen.
It's the one with camera and unlock left to right.
No extra services running, simply rename back to have sense lockscreen back. If changes don't happen immediately, a reboot will fix.

You can freeze our uninstall the sense launcher along with any apps/widgets you don't use if you have a third party launcher installed. I've done this. I wouldn't go uninstalling things without knowing what it is first.

Yes and a lot of research as you might disable a vital component on accident and then you have to really flash a new Rom.

As stated above, you must be rooted to do this stuff, but in case you wanted to know...
I uninstalled just about every sense element I could find in TitaniumBackup and use Apex launcher in place of the stock one. Interestingly, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the stock ICS lockscreen popped up after uninstalling the sense lockscreen, so I don't have to run any 3rd party LS app. Also I have uninstalled the stock browser and clock, replacing them with the apks I pulled from CM9, mostly because I like the look and feel a little better, but also sense alarm wouldn't display on the ICS LS--CM9 alarm does. I had the CM9 message app on my LTE also, but found I was unable to send or receive MMS. I didn't really investigate too much further to try to get it working and I don't know if it is even possible. EX Dialer offers a more appealing phone app than does the sense version as far as I'm concerned.
There are ways to make your phone look differently, but as you said sense eats up the background, and I feel the CM9 apps run a little lighter. I enjoy a much better experience without the Sense stuff as it feels a little closer to AOSP now.
Good luck should you decide to try some of the suggestions, and remember, always always have a backup.

What kind of vital things? Is it stable enought to use as a daily?
The part of sense that is still running is the 35MB shell or so of basic sense functionality throughout the whole phone.
You're not able to get rid of that, but if you use another launcher you already not loading up the launcher portion of sense. If you used the sense launcher, you'd see Sense go up to over 100MB, since the basic sense of 35 + the launcher of about 70 something will kick you over 100MB. So the fact that it still sits in the 30s shows you're not using the launcher, but Apex or Nova or whatever is probably taking up 50-70MB itself.
Right, so really no win unless you root and disable... thanks for the input all.
