So is it ok to do that revolutionary process with my TB in the condition its in (Root with S-on) or should i flash the MR2 file to restore it back to it factory state and then do the revolutionary process
I'm not sure how you got true root with s-on. Anyway I would go back to stock to err on the side of caution.

I can take my bolt back to stock, like when i bought it?
I just meant an unrooted stock build. Like MR2 as he said.

Well its funny how i got root, i used the TB auto root click, but as it was goin thru the process pushing the files, after it made the phone reboot, it said to match the device number and click enter and as i did that it just stayed in the same position on the ADB so i unplugged it, started up Superoneclick root and click the root button it did its thang and said device rooted, i restarted my phone and saw the superuser in the app drawer i tested the wireless tether and it worked acccepting my root access, so thats how i got root,
so to be on a safe side i should push it back to stock and then do the revolutionary method
That's what I said. ;-)

I rooted my 2.2.2 aria using alpharev s-off and all went well, I unrooted by reinstalling att 2.2 rom from htc website hoping to get push for third party apps. After several failed attempts through att tech support I decided to reroot my aria. The unroooting never turned s-off back to on, so I tried to flash cwm recovery using android flasher and it fails every time. What can I do to reroot my aria?

Did you put your phone on the fastboot screen when you tried to flash CWM?
You need to have USB debugging enabled. Android flasher should automatically put the phone into fastboot.

Yes I had usb debugging mode turned on.

So - I did this too, and unrevoked seemd to get stuck on "Waiting for root..."
The phone rebooted into the home screen, but no superuser.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I bypassed unrevoked and just pushed recovery. It took me a bit - had to uninstall/reinstall drivers.
Unrevoked can't be used on HBOOT 1.x.
If you still have S-OFF, you should use this method to flash recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694

Dan
so I rooted my TB using super one click root. I restarted my phone and saw the superuser app in my drawer so to make sure I was rooted I downloaded titanium back and see if it gave me root access and I was able to gain root access to the app. So my next thing was to get Rom manager I downloaded that it asked for my root access I press allowed and I was able to use the app, I click flash clockword recovery and it successfully installed, so now I was going to download a Rom to my phone well i had a rom already. On my SD card so from Rom manager it says install Rom from SD card I click that found the Rom on my SD card checked off the wipe and back up and ok. Phone turns off and boot up on hboot on bootloader, so it didn't work I tried to go back in Rom manager click reboot in recovery and the phone shuts off and boot back into hboot bootloader. Now keep in mind I am rooted but I can't access the recovery I keep getting sent to hboot,
Can you get to CWR manually from the hboot menu? If not (and you have the latest RomManager and recovery), your recovery didn't flash. Erase and reflash it.
I was not aware that super one click worked on the tbolt. and even if it did you cant flash a custom rom with s-on. If i were you i would download root checker from the market , it will tell you if you are rooted correctly which i dought you are....
I don't think super1click does work on the tbolt. I just assumed he meant one of the other one-clicks like Easyroot or something. I didn't pay much attention to it because he claims he has SU and TiBu works.
Should be one of these:
RomManager needs updating.
Recovery needs reflashing/updating.
Hey guys thx for the replies well your right in the bootloaded or Hboot mode it does say S-on, and for some reason Super one Click work, cuz i tried to use the TB auto root click but it went half through the process as it was pushing the files, and it got stuck for like 20 mins didnt do anything, so i unhooked it and closed eveyrthing out and then tried the super one click and it did its process and a window pop up saying device rooted. so i restarted the phone and saw the superuser and to make sure i was rooted, i tried the Titanium back up, and was able to back up my apps, and then i got the wireless tether app and tried to used that and that work showing i had superuser permission. but the rom manager isnt working im able to open the app look at the rom it has on rom manager but when i go to flash rom from sd card it reboots in Hboot, with the S-on. i tried to go to recovery i press recovery and it boot back up in Hboot, so is there any suggestion should i unroot and use another method to root so that i can be able to get into clockword recovery.
You can't flash clockwork recovery with s-on.
Go here for s-off

I would say you are good to go ahead. Just jump right in. You are basically stock except that you can use root access apps.

Once you get S-Off, the whole point of rooting opens up to you. Great ROMs and no carrier bloat.
First off thanks for the help -
I rooted my Thunderbolt using the Revolutionary method, no problems at all, downloaded Titanium Backup and backup all info and then installed the latest Gingerbread release.
Now, I've lost root and I can't reinstall TB (because I don't have root access).
Do I need to reroot?
Sorry, thanks for the help

please be more specific what you did.
I followed the instructions here under #1 to root the phone using the Revolutionary tool (I was on 2.2.1) - can't post link yet but its on thunderbolt forums
After those instructions were finished I installed Titanium Backup and backed up all my data and apps.
After that was finished I installed/upgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.1
Now after all that is finished, I don't seem to have root access anymore. Do I need to re-install that Superuser app?
When I go to the HBoot screen, it says Revolutionary at the top and S-Off, I assume that means I still have root access?
Thanks again
First, flash CWM Recovery via hboot, then flash su from CWM.

S-off does not mean root. If you installed GB with an RUU (PG05IMG.zip) then you will need to reflash clockwork recovery and then the Su binary you flashed after running Revolutionary.

That is the stock android/HTC recovery.
Flash this (doesn't matter which one really.)in hboot first. Then reflash the SU binary used after Revolutionary. Then I would say install busybox from the market or elsewhere.

Can someone help me root this phone?
I unlocked it via HTC method and I even flashed a recovery. But when the phone boots up, I am unable to use any super user permissions. So, I download root check and it says I am not rooted. What am I doing wrong?
I didn't have this pain on HB 1.5

I had also did that. Thing is, when I booted back up, my phone was in the state of not being rooted. Even after flashing the superuser zip.
So, what I did was flash the boot.img from the rom I wanted to flash, through fastboot.
Thank you for the help though. It's really appreciated.

Months ago I used HTCDev to unlock and flashed TWRP recovery and su-2.3.6.3.zip from this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239821
I was underwhelmed with the MIUI ROM and got curious about Sprint's ICS update, so I relocked the bootloader and ran the 2.17 RUU.exe, then updated to 2.89 OTA. After that I could use my original HTCDev Unlock_code.bin to unlock the bootloader, but su-2.3.6.3 would not give me proper root access (verified with Root Checker app). Thankfully downloading Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip from http://androidsu.com/superuser/ and flashing it through recovery worked.
I now have root with the stock Sprint ICS. Why? Because I wanted to keep the 3D and Wimax functionality (i know, i know) while still being able to run TiBackup to freeze the goddamned pre-installed apps that everyone hates. I'm sure this is stated elsewhere in the forums, but I read your post before I resolved my issue so I thought I'd come back and reply just in case you or anyone else were still grappling with it.

Thanks a lot, that really helped me to root a brand new stok rom on the Sprint evo 3d!
Just for future reference when you download a super user zip, notice the letters next to superuser efghi those letters represent the past android os's (e)clair, (f)royo, (g)ingerbread, (h)oneycomb, and (I)cecream sandwhich. Always look for that if you plan to root a stock Rom.
Alright I will try to recap what ive done today. I Was rooted with s-off via the thunderbolt tool and had the new ICS rom installed and running fine. But I decided to sell it so I used the thunderbolt tool to unroot and return to stock.
All was going well then in the boot-loader the update failed and i got stuck with boot-loader locked security warning, which would not let me do anything, was stuck in the boot-loader.
After some searching I found a link to unlock the boot-loader via htcdev to fix the security warning and allowed me to finally boot back into the rom but the phone kept shutting down after it booted up past the thunderbolt screen. So after searching I found this link http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thunderbolt-help/7853-how-fix-security-warning.html and used the 2nd method to fix it since I still have a custom recovery on the phone. Now my problem is I am once again trying to get s-off through the thunderbolt tool like it says in the guide but every time I use the tool it says Starting up... and does nothing. Bascially im now stuck with s-on and an unlocked boot-loader. oh I tried to relock the bootloader but it just gives me a security warning again and im stuck in the bootloader again.
Any Ideas?
Alright never-mind I just used the Revolutionary 0.4 program and gained "revolutionary" in the pink field and s-off again so im good there again.
The thunderbolt tool is still stuck at "starting up"..., is there another way to get the tbolt back to stock condition?

If you have S-off then just grab a stock RUU (easiest probably gingerbread) and flash the RUU in hboot. This will completely return your phone to stock as well as unroot you. If you wish to keep root then flash a leaked RUU that someone put up.

If you're already rooted go to the development section and download the new radio and put it on the root of your sd card, rename it to PG05IMG.zip, reboot into the bootloader. The bootloader will automatically scan for the update and ask it you want to update. Select yes. Once it is finished and the phone boots back up. Use a file manager to browse to the radio and rename it. Then download and flash the official ics build. Don't confuse it with the leak. The leak is a worthless piece of crap and doesn't come close to how much better the ota is.
