I need 10 seconds from cold start. You need to turn on Use wireless networks in settings, location and security.

just flashed to UA v1.2.. but still the same.. enabled the setting as well.. sigh... anything that u have done to ur ace?
It also depends on the availability of wireless networks in your area. Try enabling your wifi as well. Google has a database of WiFi AP MAC addresses and the corresponding location. Kinda awesome, kinda freaky. Here in South Africa the list isn't too spot on, but it will atleast get you into the correct suburb (must say, I have only tested this in a very small town). Worth a try

I can't think of anything else. I have very good 3G coverage and 500MB data plan. Maybe there is a problem with your network coverage, but that's strange because what ever the coverage quality is phone just needs a couple of KBs for a fix.
Maybe this will help!
You can look at this thread...

First of all, Android is an operating system and Nokia is a brand. Second, On Android you can set the phone not to use network data for GPS which will greatly increase the time needed for GPS fix. Nokia works exactly the same way, if A-GPS is turned on you get a quick fix, if it's off you don't. My Ace works perfectly and gets a quick fix. Oh, and I almost forgot, Nokia is crap. .I.
first of all.. .thx for the reply so much...
fyi, i didnt turn on network data for gps, i am only using gps alone to get my position, although it do get locked after few minutes... but the tftt is too long..
my frd using nokia 5800, he was able to get lock within 10secs w/o network..
thats the reason i am wondering how can i get faster lock..
may i ask how can i turn on the A-gps? i update it quite frequently using gps status..
is that means i have ady turn it on?
thx!

Hi
Some networks in the UK are offering "eat data" plan in otherwords there is no "fair usage policy". I have taken up this plan. To upload videos to YouTube it only works on wifi. Is there a way to make the device to recognise 3G as wifi so that the uploads can be done even on 3g data.
Thanks in advance.
as far as I'm aware, you can't trick your phone into believing 3G is WiFi unless you put your SIM into another android phone and then used the wireless tethering function to upload the video off the first phone...if that makes sense

Hi thanks for the suggestion. It should work if the other phone can tether. When I was using iPhone I used an application "3G Unrestrictor" which trick the phone to treat 3G as wifi. If someone can make a tiny app for SGS II (for android in general) it will help our community....

+1 to that, it'd be a great little app, there might already be one I've just never heard of it. If not tethering with your SIM in a second device/Mi-Fi router is the only way I'm afraid...

Hi
There is already a discussion going on in XDA (see the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=643491)
Let us keep an eye on the other discussion as well.
I am waking up this thread. Anyone having any solutions found.

i know all the cons to it but im not talking on 24/7 but more on the fly for when i need it.. shame the os doesnt give it a few seconds till it switches bk.. its almost instanly bk to 3g after loading a webby.. just needs to have a longer cooldown on it.

To be honest, the "lag" that you're experiencing is likely more the phone waiting for the response from the server you're requesting data from rather than the phone switching from 3G to H. It can swap from 3G to H seamlessly without interfering with your data stream (hooray for packet management!). Keep in mind, there's a lot that goes on in transferring a data request from a phone (or even a computer for that matter) through the actual internet infrastructure to get the data back to you.
My device stays on h+ until my download is done. I have a perfect signal in my area. Does yours not switch automatically when using data?

no it does swithc fine..
example.
i go on something that is requesting network data. so i click on the internet and search for watever.. when i click go the upload arrow in 3g flicks for a second and then switches to H and then does both arrows.. then webpage loads once completed switches bk to 3g again. i search for something else and it goes on.
I want to leave it on H.
because if u go on a webby and then before it finsohes loading and u click something else to go their it instanty loads the request because it was still on H...
you see what i mean.
switching process is nearly seamless for me.
Perhaps im just being a impatient fukka but its something that really annoys me that i have no control over..

So in a few weeks the time is two minutes in advance
I can install ClockSync and sync all days but is a pain and also consumes the battery and storage

No, no miraculous solution has emerged from the time you have posted your OT questions on the franco ROM thread. ClockSync consumes power by running for 5-10 seconds every 6 hours at most, so... are you serious?
Maybe other people that were not at that moment on franco post, know another way to fix it
It is not normal that clock
so I ask it now maybe someone know how to solve
I hope the clock which you compare is not slow.

You cannot fix your hardware clock on your phone, exactly as you cannot fix the same on your motherboard in your PC. This is why things like NTP, NITZ etc. have been invented.
Well so I will have to use the app and sync every days...
thanks for the info, I had not got idea, so is better to ask experts. If you tell me I cant fix that hardware problem I belive it but, I am a bit angry because somehow I have a defective phone

On an normal PC the clock skew is about the same or even worse - unless you use NTP. Seriously, you just have unrealistic expectations when it comes to the HW clock precision of these consumer devices.
Sorry I dont understand that "acronyms" but I am really sure that the clock is not precise and is wrong. Is not normal that in a few hours the time has came one 1.5 seconds
Well, you will never be late for anything then?

Well, as said, it is perfectly normal for this class of devices. Your phone is not a Swiss watch.
Solutions have already been mentioned - either switch to a service provider that supports NITZ on their network, or use ClockSync or similar utility to sync the clock via NTP.
With this, whole thing can be pretty much concluded.
Ok dude, thanks for help everything solved, so I will use clocksync
That of NITZ, I supose that is the option which says "use values provided by the network"
sorry for inconvenience

Ok all right thanks
I have got Amaze last week, but there are two main problems with this device.
First, the "power off" button doesn't work sometimes, no responses when I long press the button.
Second, after installing some apps(about 60), wifi has some problem---when the
screen off and I open again, the wifi is automatically cut off. Even though there is a wifi "label" on top of the screen, I can't browse internet. Then I manually cut off the wifi and connect again, it works. But everytime the screen closes( u know, it is unwise to keep the screen always on), the wifi will be cut off automatically. I don't know the reason. I have changed a new one this week but same problems arise!!! I am driven crazy!!! Could sb nice to help me????
besides, I have tried "factory reset", and problems will go. but when I install apps again, problem rises again...
I'm having the same issue with the power off. It was working earlier but it looks like it stopped after I applied the htc update. I've been working all day and that's the only change
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA App
htc maybe do the same error like nexus one :/
I have issue even before update!! then how do u deal with the problem now???
what is the problem with nexus one???
to solve the wifi problem....
go to settings, then click on wireless and networks,
scroll down to wifi setting and click
On the wifi settings page touch the second capacitive button on the phone, then click on advanced settings..
On advanced settings page, change the wifi sleep policy to never..
This should solve your problem
same problem happened to me today, data reset the phone power off button problem will be resolved.
I'm having this problem now...and the wifi fix didn't work.
Any other ideas?

Does anyone have a solution to the power-button issue? It will shut off the screen, but wont prompt anything if you long press the power button.
---------- Post added at 10:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:49 AM ----------
Found this surfing:
"Thank you for contacting HTC Technical support about the issue you are having with not being able to power off your device Amaze device. I do apologize that you have this issue with your device and I will gladly assist you with this today. You have security credentials checked, a password set,and Fastboot off. You must either turn off security credentials or enable Fastboot. For the Fast Boot option to work you will need to re-enable the Storage Credentials(under security settings) and enter the password once more. Then, enable Fast-Boot and you should be able to safely power cycle."
That last one worked for me. Not sure *which* - I turned on fastboot *and* turned on security credentials.
* edit *
But after the test reboot, it stopped working again...check settings, and security credentials is off - but fastboot is still on.
Turn on security credentials again, and the power button starts working.
I'm not going to re-re-reboot it, though...yet.

I just picked up my Amaze today. I had gotten a new SIM card just two weeks ago, but the TMO folks said I had to use the one that came with the Amaze because it supported the high speed downloads; older cards would not be as fast.

I have spotty 4G coverage here. My old phone was the HD2, which is 3g. Just today I happened to get into a 4G solid area and I loaded Google Maps - nearly instant load of terrain and satellite. Those would have taken several seconds on my HD2, or my wife's Exhibit II. So I think it is indeed faster if one lives in the right area.
I can't say what difference there is in SIM cards, because I have only had the new one that came with the Amaze in the device.
Hello matrix users i have big problem whit my phone. When i use it for a while its getting really freaking hot in the area of the buttons and the speaker its not the battery also the battery life is ok. so i think it's something hidden beneath the buttons... any ideas what my cause this? btw this begin after radio update i used some chinish radio but after few days i back the stock radio. i tested few other radios and roms but no changes.. my phone still get hot..
Please help meeeeeee
It's most probably soc or modem. Under the buttons there is not much that could heat up. Did you recently change your location? Try setting modem to 2g only.

Just a thought, but the point at which is starts heating up might help indicate what the problem is, that and logs (logcat and dmesg).
I know that mine has a major issue with draining/heating (hot enough to smell it) while using the GPS navigation, even with the official, unmodified Motorola GB ROM (haven't had the change to try it in ICS), and the only way around that I found was to download (cache) the maps. In your case, however, it's possible you may have damaged the modem. Just for kicks, I would try booting into recovery and let it idle for a few minutes to see if it gets hot. Another option is to select the boot option that bypasses the modem and see if that gets hot as well. Without logs, it's impossible to guess beyond what Krystian already told you as sometimes it's hard enough to figure it out even with logs.
AFAIK, GPS is a big energy spender and a big device heater for all devices out there. This is due to technical limitations of the GPS system and is not really avoidable.
