Hello matrix users i have big problem whit my phone. When i use it for a while its getting really freaking hot in the area of the buttons and the speaker its not the battery also the battery life is ok. so i think it's something hidden beneath the buttons... any ideas what my cause this? btw this begin after radio update i used some chinish radio but after few days i back the stock radio. i tested few other radios and roms but no changes.. my phone still get hot..
Please help meeeeeee
It's most probably soc or modem. Under the buttons there is not much that could heat up. Did you recently change your location? Try setting modem to 2g only.

Just a thought, but the point at which is starts heating up might help indicate what the problem is, that and logs (logcat and dmesg).
I know that mine has a major issue with draining/heating (hot enough to smell it) while using the GPS navigation, even with the official, unmodified Motorola GB ROM (haven't had the change to try it in ICS), and the only way around that I found was to download (cache) the maps. In your case, however, it's possible you may have damaged the modem. Just for kicks, I would try booting into recovery and let it idle for a few minutes to see if it gets hot. Another option is to select the boot option that bypasses the modem and see if that gets hot as well. Without logs, it's impossible to guess beyond what Krystian already told you as sometimes it's hard enough to figure it out even with logs.
AFAIK, GPS is a big energy spender and a big device heater for all devices out there. This is due to technical limitations of the GPS system and is not really avoidable.

i got an eris and no matter what rom (2.0/2.1/2.2/2.3) they all drop a call after about 8-10 minutes of talking... i have tried a different prl, and tried 3 different baseband versions, all still have the dropped call issue. and i have about 4 bars when it drops, so bad signal isnt the problem.
anyone know what could be causing this?
if not does anyone know if there is a log file or something that would say what caused the dropped call?
if there's something wrong with the hardware i guess i'm going to have to find a used moto droid to replace it

Is there one or two locations where you get more dropped calls than anywhere else, like your home, work, etc? Have you noticed what your signal is like before the call drops?
Are you sure your using your Eris and not an iPhone? No but seriously, I know you said you don't think signal is a factor but I believe it is. Either bad reception or faulty hardware.

i tried duplicating the dropped call while i ran alogcat, i had my gf's phone and mine just laying on the computer desk for over 45 minutes and it wouldn't drop the call >.< i even picked the phone up shaked it, slapped it, turned it... all to see if there was something loose inside and it wouldn't drop it...
ill just have to check logcat right after a dropped call and if logcat doesnt show anything ill be leaving htc and getting a moto =P
I have the same issue. I'm using CM7 v. 3.8

What area are you in? People are having service problems on inc as well and it was determined that it was the area they were in was having issues not the phones. I think they were in the Detroit area if I remember correctly and even people without rooted phones were having the same problems.

I set the time and one day after, it has unconfigured because it come one around 1.5 seconds
So in a few weeks the time is two minutes in advance
I can install ClockSync and sync all days but is a pain and also consumes the battery and storage
Any solution?

No, no miraculous solution has emerged from the time you have posted your OT questions on the franco ROM thread. ClockSync consumes power by running for 5-10 seconds every 6 hours at most, so... are you serious?
Maybe other people that were not at that moment on franco post, know another way to fix it
It is not normal that clock
so I ask it now maybe someone know how to solve
I hope the clock which you compare is not slow.

You cannot fix your hardware clock on your phone, exactly as you cannot fix the same on your motherboard in your PC. This is why things like NTP, NITZ etc. have been invented.
Well so I will have to use the app and sync every days...
thanks for the info, I had not got idea, so is better to ask experts. If you tell me I cant fix that hardware problem I belive it but, I am a bit angry because somehow I have a defective phone

On an normal PC the clock skew is about the same or even worse - unless you use NTP. Seriously, you just have unrealistic expectations when it comes to the HW clock precision of these consumer devices.
Sorry I dont understand that "acronyms" but I am really sure that the clock is not precise and is wrong. Is not normal that in a few hours the time has came one 1.5 seconds
Well, you will never be late for anything then?

Well, as said, it is perfectly normal for this class of devices. Your phone is not a Swiss watch.
Solutions have already been mentioned - either switch to a service provider that supports NITZ on their network, or use ClockSync or similar utility to sync the clock via NTP.
With this, whole thing can be pretty much concluded.
Ok dude, thanks for help everything solved, so I will use clocksync
That of NITZ, I supose that is the option which says "use values provided by the network"
sorry for inconvenience

I just bought the prime and I'm searching for what's wrong before I get to comfortable. GPS don't work and I'm OK with that but what else and how else should I check for defects?

You can check for light bleed by downloading the free light bleed test app to test the quality of your screen. Other than that check for consistent download speed over wifi using the speed test app in conjunction with the wifi analyzer app....
Use device as you normally would. Of something occurs to change normal use experience then you'd know. Alot of times people looking for trouble will always find it
Test your wifi speed from anywhere you may use the device. For example, i get great download speeds from the living room where my router is. Upstairs however, i get speeds that nearly make the device unuseable.

Yeah you're right if I look for trouble I'll probably find it guess I'll just check the basic for bleu tooth and WiFi issues

WiFi is great range is acceptable and blue tooth headset lags..... but both holds a connection simultaneously. There is slight light bleeding but if I never knew what it was I would actually think is pretty cool and part of the design because I only see it on start up
Check for dead pixels, then check for white pixels (use a white screen), then check for Stuck and hot pixels. Then check for light bleeds on a black screen. Then do your updates. Then download wifi analyzer and stand next to your router and use wifi anayzer while taking steps away from your router and see how fast it drops or how far you get with reception. Bluetooth with wifi on tests. Then install apps, test your browsers, youtube, try the game demos,etc... If your prime is still working good, your looking to be in good shape... so far..

I also find the entire premise of actively looking for issues silly. Use the device heavily as you will during ownership to ensure it does everything you expect it to, then of something isn't right go digging into the technical aspects of said issue and see if you find anything. Just having the expectations of issues and hunting specifically for them makes you bias in your own experiments where you may just conjure something up that is for all real world purposes nothing.

While that may seem silly to you what if I purchased this with the intentions of using a certain feature on a random day. If I didn't know about the GPS not working I could of possibly taken this on a trip expecting it to work which by that time would be too late to do something about so I would like to know now what's working and thats not

Hi guys!
I bought the Z3TC LTE and are very happy with the device but I experience kind of ghosting with the touch screen:
Moving my finger up and down on an scrollable page / app it starts missing or skipping a movement!
Is that a general problem or should I return the device?
I made an demonstration Video:
http://youtu.be/EUeAt1HMt-w
try a reboot.
is it only 1 app or is it happening on different apps?
Reproducible in every App! Reboot does not help!
If I find time I'm gonna try the same on an Z3TC in an local store..
hmmm thats strange....
glove mode is not on right?
If not, try a factory reset.
if that does not work, sounds like service.....
does this happen when you are charging the device? sometimes this is caused by a charger that doesn't supply sufficient current
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
I think I am facing the opposite of that. The screen is far too sensitive and sometimes takes a scroll as a touch. Happens everywhere on the device. I fear it's a hardware thing.

Exactly that made me aware of the problem! Did you try what I did in my YouTube video?
I have tested an black Z3TC WLAN in the local store! Could not reproduce the problem! Gonna send it back, keep you updated!
I had a similar problem for a couple of days.
The tablet would scroll up and down on web pages erratically and also when using the keyboard it would enter words independently.
The issue resolved itself after awhile so there is nothing I can suggest to fix it.

Mine also typing by itself (when battery below 20%)
I had the same issue and end up got a replacement from vendor. They didn't do serious check and question me as usual. Then give me another one.
it makes me feel this is a common issue with this tablet.
Mine works perfectly fine

I have this but it's not static. It was happened from time to time, both vertical and horizontal scrolls.
Also the replacement tablet has the problem! Could you guys please write which model you have? Might be LTE related!?

My phone has been over heating. A LOT. Even with basic use. No gaming or anything. Anyone experience this? I called tech and they were no help. Told me to run in safe mode and remove my SD card..... Ya that won't work for me.
Thinking about full wipe but I dread resetting up everything.

I haven't had any issues like that. Only over heading I experienced were while using car navigation while wireless charging. You can try shopping cache plus restart to see if something is stuck, or if you have a new installation freeze that and see if things get better.
Another thing to look at is detailed battery use, see if there is any surprises. Many times the app that causes heating will also cause faster battery drain. If you can't find the app then full wipe may be needed.
Edit: one other question, did you change case recently? some cases don't transfer heat as well.
I did. A lot. Got to the point that I could take one picture and the camera would shut off because it was over heating. Hard reset didn't fix anything. I also had wireless problems (wifi would never stay off, airplane mode didn't work), and battery life was pretty poor (coming from Note 2). Replacement phone seems much better on all counts.
Thanks for the info guys. No case on the phone. Still working on rooting and playing with Xposed.... Maybe something there will help.... Or just have Verizon send a new one. I really do love this phone... So hopefully I can resolve this.... Maybe lollipop will help... If we ever get it....

Update
So had Verizon send me a new phone..... Have had it a day and a half and have already seen signs of over heating...... Granted it's close to 100 outside..... But I've been in the car with AC using GPS and it was getting really warm. I've had SEVERAL other phones with the same or more heavy usage with no over heating issues......
Not sure what to do. If it keeps up I'm going to have to consider a new phone....
Anyone know of any risks using the phone when it's over heating??? It's not going to explode or catch fire is it???

Same here. I can use the camera on this one but this is annoying. Might sell and go back to my trusty Note 2 that still hasn't sold anyway.
Anybody find any workarounds (besides the tin-foil inside the case thing)? I get camera shut-down after just playing around with the various modes without even recording anything. Thinking about getting an ice-pack to mount on the phone when I want to record videos......

I was having the overheat issue when I used the camera, so i downloaded the google camera app and it seems to work better.
My wife and I got refurbished phones from VZW, her's crashes to home screen now (Camera) and mine works for a few minutes longer than the old one.
Right now I am looking into getting a new phone, this one is getting annoying, want something I can get current Android version on and not a year old unpatched (Stagefright) leak that is not even Marshmallow.
