Sad, huh?
This is from about a 4 foot fall. TouchPad meets linoleum, linoleum wins. I'm wishing this was made with Gorilla Glass like my Asus Transformer.
32Gb down the proverbial drain.
le cry.
:edit:
like a poster mentioned, it IS (Or is it??) I"m goinGorilla Glass! But Gorilla Glass != impact resistant. It's made to resist scratches... this is a bit more than a scratch I guess. My wife said that not even Safelite can repair it.
It landed flat on it's face. Well, pretty flat. You can see where it impacted first. Frankly, I'm surprised it shattered like it did, it only fell from chest-height. oh well.
:EDIT 2:
I dunno if it's Gorrilla Glass or not. I'm thinking it really isn't. But that doesn't matter, it's all broke 'n shiz.
I have contacted they CyanogenMod team and I'll be shipping it out this evening. Let's hope this helps us get Android working on the TouchPad soon!!
looks more like someone shot at it ... twice.
Seriously how is that even possible? ^^
anyone can recommend a protective case??
Hi wooties,
I feel truly sorry for you.
I'd guess repair is much to expensive ;( If so and it is for you just garbage please consider donating the broken device to devs such as CyanogenMod. They can use these anyway.
LK
That'll polish right out.
Seriously though that sucks.
I thought they were made of gorilla glass!!!!
Ouch. My condolences for your loss.
That really sucks man but I have been looking for some parts do you want sell it? That would be better than pitching it in the trash. LMK

You're first on the list if the CyanogenMod team has sufficient hardware for their needs.
The touchpad does have a Gorilla glass screen, that ^ is a fairly common thing to happen to them. I've a Dell Streak and the number of people who've broken the screen through dropping or sitting on or even just a small knock would surprise you. Gorilla glass is meant to be more scratch resistant, it's not more shatter resistant.
Damn!
That's nasty. The more I see of this tab, the more I am convinced that it isn't worth a dime over the $99 HP sold it off at.
Sad that it had to happen. This should serve as a remider to everyone else to "really hold on" just like the OP said.

um... is it not possible to change the glass?
i found this
http://www.amazon.com/Digitizer-Touch-Screen-Glass-black/dp/B004WPZR5C
its for ipad2, but they are the exact same screen.... only difference is the button shape...Im sure you can cut it, or maybe just change but id rather a weird lookin button that no TrollPad (yea i call it that due to its elusive nature).
I know its 70$ but hey...

Damn, that sucks balls. Sorry bro. But I commend you for offering it up for the cause, I think we all appreciate that.
That's what happens when you take an object that has an extremely large pane of glass made to resist scratches (this makes it less resistant to actually breaking) and building into a device like a tablet or modern smartphone where the device is little more than that pane of glass. The obsession with making them thinner makes them less sturdy and they break when they get a shock to a corner or side.

Are you serious? My one day old Rezound smashed. I wish it would've had gorilla glass at this point. I am so distraught right now that i've posted pics and a few different forums. While preparing Thanksgiving dinner, listening to music the headphones caught the door knob and slam right to the floor. I am thankful that Amazon is replacing the phone free of charge even though I had Asurion insurance (no $99 replacement). But the phone won't be here until Tuesday :'( lol.

Using an extended battery and Verizon didnt have a case for the extended battery. Plus I never use cases but that will change Tuesday when I get my new phone.
When did you check Verizon for a case? I picked my phone up a few days after release. Bought the extended battery and the case that fits on the same day. Fits the hand great. And has a stand on the back.

Yep, it's not magic, it all depends on what it hit and the angle. No matter what kind of glass it is, it can break.
Not really that tech savvy. I assumed that gorilla glass was a lot stronger than regular glass thus indestructible lol. Well I definitely learned my lesson. I'm going to buy the red silicone case and use the extended battery as needed.
There was a post on several Android forums about someone dropping their new Droid RAZR, shattering the glass on it. It even has Gorilla Glass. Unless it's bulletproof, there's no glass that isn't breakable, just scratch resistant.
Either way, sorry your phone was damaged man. Hope you get a replacement soon!

Well, the name does conjure up all-around strength for 99% of people that hear it so it's not hard to understand that's what they expect. Whoever owns it could have used another name to more closely describe its resistance to scratches, like "Diamond Guard" or something.
So you're saying Gorilla Glass isn't all it's cracked up to be? Perhaps we've just shattered the illusion of indestructibility. It's shard to keep up with all the splintered information around it. I wouldn't want this discussion to fracture into disconnected threads, though, so let's not all go to pieces over it!

Too much, man. Too much.
Anytime it says resistant, that's not proof! Like a water resistant watch is not water proof. Read about Gorilla glass here -
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/faqs
I remember the news here in Denver doing a live shot with that armored Casio phone, having people drop it and such, saying it was "break resistant". Some guy, prob 25 walked up, they told him to drop it, he spiked it into the sidewalk into pieces. Made me laugh so hard I did a spit take all over my coffee table...

I wonder if there's a way to find out who makes the LCD panel for the Prime? That looks like LG's handiwork. They had huge issues with screen bleed on the O2X/G2X and got dropped as a supplier to Apple because of it. Sorry you drew the short straw. At least you'll have it to use until you can exchange it or send it in for repair. GameStop has a 30 day return policy for defects so make sure you get on the list for a second wave unit in January if you're going to exchange it.
It's worse in person. The picture dims it more. I don't want a freebie. If later down the road I sell this I have to knock the price down even more and most probably wont even buy it.

I do admit other than the light leakage its built pretty solid. As far my issue, if its anything like any LCD tv there's probably something in there that got stuck between the screen and bezel. Probably easy fix if only I knew how to open it. The build quality is so tight I can't see how the heck they put it together.
You should be able to get a refund.
At least in the UK you would be able to.
If goods are not sold as advertised then auto refund.
If they have display model that does not have screen bleed then it is not sold as advertised.
Good luck.
My biggest fear of the G3's thin screen glass happened 12hrs after I received the phone. I didn't hardly even get to use the damn thing. Now I'm just sending it to LG for repair. Yes I could purchase the digitizer and do the repair myself but I honestly don't have the time.

They are going to send you what they have in Stock, I damaged my G3 in the rain, the week that it came out.
I paid the $150 deductible, and they sent me a brand new G3 in the box, through Asurion.
Could be refurbished, or it could be new, depending on what they have in stock at the moment.
I would recommend a TPU case, and tempered glass.
You can get both on ebay 2-3 day shipping for less than $20.

I swore expletives because the eBay auction didn't show any scratches, but I figured I could probably fix this myself. I first started with 600 grit sandpaper.
https://imgur.com/ZiVgatj
Got it to a nice matte finish. Then I did 800, and finally 1500.
https://imgur.com/LaTPHpC
It actually didn't look too bad. So finally I took the polishing wheel to it and some cerium oxide, just like that guide mentioned.
https://imgur.com/gMKE58M
Now this takes a really long time. And actually, I'm not thrilled with how it came out. There's some VERY FINE scratches that interfere with the picture. So I'm really looking for a way to buff out very fine scratches on gorilla glass.
I tested all of this earlier on a nexus 5x because it was dead, and I couldn't even cut the screen with a razor. I have no idea how this phone had scratches, but I had to take a dremel to the thing to even emulate a scratch.
Edit: I'm not sure why my images aren't showing up

Oh, weird. I can't see them.
Either way, I figured out the issue and why this should never be attempted. We have an oleophobic coating on our screens that repel grease from your fingerprints. In buffing out scratches, you wipe away this coating.
Also, I need something more fine than Cerium Oxide to buff out scratches like this. There's a reason all the scratch guides are from 2010 and earlier. It doesn't work well on newer phones.
Oh well, back on eBay
Edit: I guess all the money I waste on eBay is not a waste because I'm learning things. Yeah! That's what I'm going to tell myself

I've...had two with this phone. First, while I was still on the Axon7, I bought a phone for 120 with a crack in it. "I'll just replace the lens over the screen" I thought. I demolished the damned phone trying to get the back off it.
My hands were only meant for destruction, it seems.
To be fair, the Axon7 was great replacing the screen. Two grills needed to come off with a heat gun and I was inside the phone. This phone is a goddamned nightmare to get apart.
Anyway, people more skilled than I generally buy the phones off me, so I lose ~$30-50. Nothing I'm gonna lose sleep over.

DO NOT put this phone in your front OR back pocket.
Of course it will break because frame is made from plastic.
10 Pro also breaks even with metal frame because of poor design.

Should be fine, just don't wear tight denims/trousers and have the phone in those pockets.
Get a decent case and tempered glass screen protector, can't really do much more than that.
It's still pretty bad that they've apparently learned nothing from the 10 Pro result. OnePlus usually has excellent device stability. Another sign they're definitely slipping with Pete at the helm.
It is so stupid to complain about the build quality. When in the world are you going to crack your phone like that and for what purpose? Phones are not made to be cracked, it is not their purpose. Phones are to be taken care of with, that's right, care. To brake it and then to complain about it? Stop the nonsense.

Unfortunately the world is full of people that don't have nothing better to do and give hate on one brand or another just for fun. I'm sure that nobody will seat down with his phone into his pocket and for sure if someone make it will break his display.
Actually, the build quality is pretty okay, and much better than 10 pro. The only problem is, Zach is a gym freak, and is fun at bending stuff to the breaking point. Here, this guy tried to bend the oneplus 10T with tremendous force, and failed. He isn't as ripped as Zach, so if you dunk a shockproof case and slap a tempered screen guard, you're good to go. It has Gorilla glass 5 on the front and back, and they offer a pretty good protection. Plus you don't go every other day trying to bend a phone so ignore Zach's video and buy it. Here's the video from the Indian guy trying to bend it.

Yeah, Zach is built different and a normal person can't bend the phone that easily!
