I'm not big into the 3D trend but my oh my those specs on the Evo 3D might just make it my Evo 4G upgrade
what do you think?
also, do you think HTC will lock it down as they did the incredible S?
EDIT: oops... wrong section. hey MODS can you move this to general please?
I have the same thought. I am waiting for a dual core phone with qHD resolution.
I am not big fan of 3D. Since the phone could be slightly light if not for 3D I guess.
But why not? wondering whether I could watch 3D movie in this phone.
I'm with you guys. I'm not big on 3D but am big on dual core. The Incredible is locked becuase of Verizon. Was the original Evo locked? If not, I dont believe the new one will.
Yes... pretty much every phone is locked. Its encrypted that we dont want.

yup...
im not too big on 3d either but those specs hit the spot. i wouldn't mind 3d additionally.
at first I thought "nice, 3d will be a gimmick" then I thought about all the awesome games to use it, then all the youtube vids I can watch, then about how I can now watch the 3d versions of movies. it will eventually drive me to purchase a 3d tv as I will want to play the 3d games with my ps3 too
A couple of things interest me regarding this phone:
- Newer, dual-core CPU
- qHD display
- The main camera(s) have a lower megapixel count than the original EVO, but can record in 1080p, which leads me to hope that both still and video recording (optics and software) are superior than the original EVO (which has a higher pixel count but doesn't have the greatest optics/software combo)
- same weight as original EVO
- 3D will be a neat gimmick
About the only thing I don't care much for is the rear of the phone, it looks like a pair of goggles were glued to the back of it. Original EVO looks better to my eyes.

anyone here actually taking their 8mpx pictures from their phone, printing them out at full size, and putting them on their walls? doubt it....
mpx doesnt matter at all, its the quality of the actual sensor
a kick ass sensor 5mpx camera will produce much better pictures than a crappy sensor 12mpx camera.
How is the battery life on this particular sucker relative to that of the original EVO?

How would anybody know that in a phone that isn't out yet? My guess will be like any other smart phone on battery.
Was at the sprint store yesterday and they let me play with EVO 3D.
First impressions:
Feels solid, just like the EVO 4G.
Shutter button is awesome and auto focus is very fast.
Pictures and videos taken in 3D did not look 3D and kept changing under different angles.
The Green Hornet in 3D was amazing, it actually looked 3D.
I don't understand why pictures taken with the phone don't look like the preloaded movie, which makes me think that the screen itself is capable of playing 3D content its just that the camera is not a true 3D camera.
Finally i wanted to compare 2D pictures to my EVO and so i emailed one to myself and here it is.
How did the screen look? Some reviews say it looks like poo because of it being 3D. I think that shouldn't be the case.

Thanks for this thread! Finally, not a thread from some POS attention whore. The pic looks great and I just may push my wife into getting a 3D as well. She was planning to get the OG EVO upgrading from a BB Curve

Because the movie was captured with professional 3D equipment. The Evo 3D is true 3D, all you need are 2 cameras, just like you have 2 eyeballs on your head. The problem with having 2 fixed cameras though, is that they cannot pivot (like your eyeballs) in order to compensate for the distance between the cameras and the subject, so the 3D/depth perception will not always be that good, especially for closeups.

I agree, the pic does look quite nice ... even though I see plenty evidence of compression losses, that's not the camera's fault and can be easily fixed in the settings.
Thanks OP. I was having a hard time believing that HTC couldn't get a 5MP camera to take a decent pic.
Will be interesting to see how Vignette performs on the phone. By far, the superior camera app, because it limits compression.
The two cameras are too close together for the 3D effect to be as visible as what the movies are. Ideally they would be as far apart as both your eyes are but that's not very practical on a cell phone. The picture there looks pretty good to me though, not as good as what my DSLR can do but the lenses alone for that thing are more than that phone costs.
i'm not worried as much about the megapixel part of the camera or even the 3d portion... i just want it to be clear and the color right.
my evo 4g takes clear pictures but the colors are way off.
here's a picture of my bike taken with my EVO:
and here's what it really looks like...taken with a older Nikon point and shoot:
ps: thanks for snagging a picture with the phone though. the color looks better than my evo.... it does look grainy though.
Second picture is just about as good as the Samsung Epic 4G camera.
First picture is random (was going to look up what type of plant it was) and second picture is my friend's dock.
These look very similar to the quality of EVO 3D's camera.
samsung phone camera's do kick ass.. as a matter of fact the second pic of mine could have been taken with my old moment. too bad the rest of the samsung phone isn't as good as the camera.

Yep, I have some amazing shots with my Vibrant
Yeah my moms epic camera is way better than my EVO.
I noticed your in a Sprint store. Anyone know when they will be up for display? I assume not until the 24th? I think I want to see the phone in person before I decide.
I honestly do think that HTC is not as good as samsung probably when it comes to writing software. I honestly do believe that software customizations that samsung makes are probably much better than HTC.
Touchwiz is much more buggy than sense imo. Samsung just uses better sensors for their cameras

Since there is not yet an Evo 3D Q&A forum, I'm asking this here. I hope no one gets offended.
I know very little about 3D technology, but from what I gather, our Evo 3D will actually take two separate photos when in 3D mode and by virtue of the parallax effect, allow us to view them as a single 3D image on the phone. I get that and have no problem wrapping my head around the concept. I confused, however, about the 3D's video capture. I viewed some Evo 3D video content on Youtube and it appears to look like conventional red/blue 3D video, that is, it just appears blurry or out of focus to the naked eye. If I had a pair of those glasses they hand out at 3D movies, would the YT content look like a conventional 3D movie? I found a pair on Amazon for less than $4 shipped and if that's all it takes to view other folk's 3D content, I'll order a pair today.
Does anyone have thoughts or suggestions?

The videos actually upload to youtube as a side by side video, like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gi10cVU9B7U&feature=related.
If one has a 3d capable device, then the video is played back as 3d. however, if not, then the video is played back like it is above (assuming youre watching it on your 4g or laptop).
However, i have heard of people being able to use video editing software to put it into a stereoscopic red-blue type video and make it possible to use it with the 3d glasses.

OK, I get it now. The clip I saw must not have been generated by the Evo 3D because it was the red-blue type. That was the primary source of my confusion.
I seem to be a terrible 3d photo/videographer lol.
Most of the pictures end up looking like they would if you would hold the phone at a crazy angle when viewing 3d. video doesnt come out as 3d at all

The same 3d content viewed on both phones is going to have the exact same depth and or popout. All the screen is doing on either phone is showing two pictures, one to each eye. The same 3d source is showing the same two pictures on either phone so the 3d effect has to be the same on both.
I think you may be thinking of the camera and not the screen. The evo's cameras are farther apart and would likely make the point where objects appear to pop off the screen farther away on pics taken with the evo. However, if you view pics taken with the optimus on the evo it will have the same depth as when viewed on the optimus.
And to answer your question, you can only adjust the 3d effect in games not in any pictures or video. The games use computer generated images so the effect can be adjusted. In order to adjust the effect in pics and video you would have to photoshop the images seen by each eye which is not something the phone can do on the fly.

Really? Or are you a fanboy of htc?
Because on youtube and on some topics here, people do say the optiumus 3d has more depth with the 3d effect.
Basicly you just said that the 3ds, evo3d and o3d all have desame depths, pop out effects...?
Maybe you can explain a bit more why people are saying the o3d has a better effect?
So if you watch a 3d movie, both the o3d, 3vo and 3ds will have desame effect, depths, pop outs ect?
You made me all confused

Yes, the depth will be the same if you watch the same files on any of these devices. The screen can't change the media, only the media itself can change.
Do some reattach on how 3d stuff works and you will see what I mean.

Yes absolutely the evo 3d, optimus 3d, and the 3ds will have the exact same 3d effect when viewing the same source file, such as avatar 3d or any other prerecorded media.
What people are referring to when they say the optimus has more depth or the evo has more popout is the pictures and video created by the phone. Since the evo's cameras are father apart the two phones will create a different 3d effect even when taking a picture in the exact same location with both phones. This difference is due to the 3d cameras and has absolutely nothing to do with the screen.
The 3d effect simply cannot have any difference in depth when viewing the same prerecorded media. Do a little more research into how 3d works and you will understand this better.
people. i just asked desame at the optimus 3d section and this is what ive got:
You are referring to the differences in the cameras, not the screens. Optimus photos viewed on the evo will have the same depth as when they are viewed on the optimus. All these phones are doing is showing two 2d pictures on the same screen at the same time while blocking the opposite eye from seeing the other pic. The same 3d source will have the same 3d effect on both phones. The same source has the same two pics when viewed on either screen and therefore cannot have a different 3d effect.
Now if we are talking about different sources then of course the 3d effect can be different.

Only true if one assumes that both handsets are using a parallax barrier of the same quality which works equally effective. This doesn't seem to be the case. (3d images on the O3D are supposed to be more crisp and the viewing angle is supposed to be wider as well)
Click to collapse
seems the optimus 3d uses another parallax barrier, so it makes the screen much better in handling 3d.
The viewing angles may well be better on the optimus but when you're in the sweet spot on the evo there is absolutely no bleed over from the other image. This can be seen be winking each eye independently. Therefore the parallax barrier isn't effecting the amount of depth in the 3d when viewed properly.
The amount of depth is determined by the source not the screen. I suspect when people say the optimus has better 3d they're either not viewing the same source on both or they're referring to viewing angles which has nothing to do with the amount of depth in the 3d effect.

Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
Well thanks guys but at least with the 3ds it is possible to set the depth/power of the 3d effect. Maybe the optimus is set higher then the evo3d?
And will there be a fix so the evo3d takes better 3d photos?
It seems everyone agrees the optimus3d is better in that...
Most 3d games you can adjust it. When viewing a picture tap the picture select effects and adjust the 3d alignment to your hearts content. Make it appear far away or make it popout.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
3d games are very different than pictures and video. They are computer generated and therefore the 3d effect can be easily adjusted on the fly. I have two 3d games on my evo and both can be adjusted over quite a large range from off to a lot of depth.
Pictures and video are a different animal. On the evo you can adjust the overlay of the pictures, which is just sliding one pic to the left and the other to the right. Now this does change the amount of depth but on most pictures there is only one point where the image looks correct without the other image bleeding over. This feature is there to compensate for the evo's, cameras being unable to swivel like your eyes. The cameras can't go crosseyed like your eyes can when viewing something close to your face. Some images will get the other image bleeding over and this feature allows you to compensate til there is none.
The problem is everyone here seems to think some super quality screen on one beats the other. Lol.
Ignorant.
People don't even see 3d the same. Certain types of 3d may effect someone more or less than another.
The LG simply assist with focussing on the 3d content.
Thus the content appears smoother more in depth. When really as you adjust. The LG cleary does too.
That would help eliminate the card board effect somewhat.
