To start with, go with the CF -root kernel which has the same version of the firmware that you want to flash. The latest firmware available is KH3 and so you choose the CF root KH3 kernel. If you want to use the latest firmware specific to your region then check the stock firmware thread by 'intratech'.

You need a KE4 kernel from CF-root. If you can't find KE4 grab the closest KE# one that you can.
You do not want KH3

read the post properly. I gave him a generic answer with KH3 as example.

No. what he said was to root a KE4 kernel you need a rooted KE4 kernel? that is right.
I gave a generic answer and mentioned KH3 as example since it is the latest firmware.

Hey guys,
I've just updated my Samsung via Kies and it is now running as follows:
Baseband - i9100xxke7
Kernel - i9100xwkg3
Build - Gingerbread xwkg3
This is the Vodafone NZ firmware.
Is there a insecure xwkg3 kernal around? Had a look around the forum, but wasn't able to find one.
Thanks in advance.
You can use the insecure KG1 kernel to root - but you might want to wait until intratech updates the carrier firmware thread with Voda's KG3 so you can flash the KG3 kernel again after rooting.
Anything interesting in there, by the by? I'm on leaked KG6.
EDIT: Looks like it's already uploaded, but Voda's KG3 is still 2.3.3. In that case, any 2.3.3 kernel will do, just flash the stock one back when you're done (Don't use the KG1 kernel, because that's 2.3.4).

Not unless Voda include root .

Ok, I'm having trouble finding a insecure kg3 kernel to use that is 2.3.3. Can someone please link me to the correct CF-Root v4.1 that I should be using.
Thanks heaps

Noob question... Looking at kies, it tells me:
PDA:KG3
Phone: KE7
CSC: KG1 (VNZ)
When one starts messing around with rooting etc. is it a case of one firmware for all, or can one actually change the Phone firmware, but not the PDA firmware?
I have been researching the net on this and the posts in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
I haven't been able to post in there as I am a new user, but if someone can help me with this, it would be great.
I'm trying to upgrade my firmware to XXKH3 - Android 2.3.4.
My current version is:
PDA: I91000XWKE7
PHONE: I9100XXKE4
CSC: I9100OPSKE4
My Galaxy S II is rooted and it's on the OPTUS network in Australia.
My question is, how should I go about it?
Do I download the XXKH3 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/C4DRUIJTLL and place that in PDA and PHONE in Odin?
And for CSC do I get this: Optus OPSKG1 CSC: http://www.multiupload.com/EPWZTIMS1F and place it in CSC?
I want to be able to use the OPTUS network on XXKH3, but without OPTUS bloatware. I'm just not sure which files to get so I can be with OPTUS on an Australian firmware if that makes any sense.
My last question is, would this then wipe my data? Or not?
I appreciate any help on this.

you are referring to the right thread. clear instructions are given on that thread.
choose the PDA option.
CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either.
You don't have to change the kernel or root or unroot to flash a new stock firmware.
You can then flash the kernel of your choice.
If you want the CF-root KH3 kernel. refer this thread
If you want to flash stock KH3 kernel you can also do that.
as far as operator bloatware is concerned search for operator specific bloatware removal scripts which can be executed using Gscript app . or a simpler option would be to freeze or uninstall the bloatware apps using Titanium back up Pro.
Thank you for the fast reply.
So pretty much all I need to do is put the XXKH3 Stock Kernel in the PDA option and that's it. So the OPTUS network will not be affected correct?
Then root it and I'm done?
Thanks again!

I guess my last question is, by doing this, putting the XXKH3 in the PDA option, will this wipe my data?
Should I back up?

Alright will do. Thanks for all your help guys!
let me know how you get on,am severely tempted to flash new firmware just for a change!
Hm. I just put XXKH3 Stock Kernel in PDA and flashed it but my phone still says Android 2.3.3. I used the CF-root KH3 kernel as well to root it again.
What do I need to do to get it to Android 2.3.4? Do I have to place it in PHONE as well?
The ROM is 2.3.4, just about any ROM in original development is. What you are trying to flash is kernel. Best of luck.

Er, Kernel is kernel and firmware is firmware. Flashing the kernel won't update the firmware, just the kernel.
Alright I think I understand now.
Downloading the package, which should do it and I guess the stock kernel is used to root/rid yourself of the yellow triangle.

It went well, the phone is working great.
My data didn't get wiped.
Follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
Download the XXKH3 package.
I also used Titanium to backup my apps just in case and MyBackup Pro for contacts etc. but haven't needed to use it.
After you flash that (if you want to root the phone) go to this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 and get CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KH3-v4.1-CWM4.zip. Put that in PDA and flash it.
To get rid of the yellow triangle, follow this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14283369&postcount=2.
That's it. Thanks for all your help guys!
ok so lets say I chose new stock firmware to avoid the triangle, then later wanted to be official, could i plug my phone into kies and updatd to official 2.3.4 without problems?
i would like to try oranges firmware without rooting the device and voiding my warranty!

Hi,
Recently i've updated my SGS2 to the latest via Kies having the below version
Check using *#1234#
PDA: DXKI2
PHONE: DXKI1
CSC: XXKH1
Gingerbread 2.3.3
After that i've downloaded the stock firmware of XXKI3 from Intratech cause i want to use 2.3.5. And flash it via odin. Now when i check my setting, its reflected as the same above.
However when i go to settings, the kernel version change to XXKI3. And still Gingerbread 2.3.3.
I need advise what i did wrongly.
Thanks in advance

It seems that you downloaded and flashed a file that contained only the kernel and not the entire firmware. Their are two download links, one for the full firmware package and one for the stock kernel.

I think I only flash the kernel. I'm now downloading the full firmware on XXKI3. So just to confirm that I should be flashing the full firmware of XXKI3 in order to get Gingerbread 2.3.5?
Thanks

Yes.full firmware is something 200+mb and kernel file is only 5+mb.
Be careful what version of ki3 you are going to flash
The original one has the new bootloader and you can not reset the counter with jig

I got the one from intratech on version XXKI3. Is that the new original?

First of all, thanks for reading this post.
I have a I9000 Samsung S2 here in Chile, with Entel Carrier and a 2.3.6 Android version, kernel KK3.
The problem is, I can't find a root KK3 kernel for it.
Also, I couldn't find an answer, if it's possible to use a KK2 or a KK5 instead of it.
Please anyone could solve this questions?
Thanks, once again.
maybe flash yourself a KK5 firmware? then you could go for KK5 cf-root

So, if I am right, I should install a stock kk5 kernel and then go for the cf-root?
I mean, are they compatible, right?

I flashed a KJ3 kernel on my KJ4 rom, so you should be OK just flashing the KK2 kernel

So, the question now is kk2 or kk5?
Well, I took my chances and tried with KK5... Success!!
I'll post if I find some troubles
Hi,
I'm looking through this forum, since I have made mess in my galaxy S2 I9100,
I have put another kernel on when I would roote phone, but have now had problems with it will not update so now shows with the little update icon in the left corner, now I would like to have it back to the original kernel, but forgot of course to write it up before I rooted, I've tried with a XWKF3 that should be stock for my model, however, my phone does not start when the kernel is loaded in the phone
Hope some could help me,
Best Regards

I have now tried to find a stock firmware for my phone, unfortunately without success.
The phone was purchased in 3 Denmark, so assume it must be one of these

XWKE1 Stock Kernel:
Password is: intra tech @ XDA
XWKF4:
