OC on 2.3.4! (stable only up to 1.29) - HTC EVO 3D

I didn't see any threads about it, so please don't beat me down if it's been posted. Here's the direct link to download it as I do not want to post links to other sites here.
http://www.multiupload.com/0MJHTFZC2M
I'm sure some of you remember klquicksal? Well, he's still at it! Flashing the kernel now.....
Edit: After running the kernel for over an hour, the phone seems to have a lag to it. I'd go as far as to say it lags badly. onebenadams was dead on in post #2. I'm OC'd using SetCPU as the script from smokin1337 didn't seem to get it to OC. (the script I'm referring to is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248809 ). I'm going to leave it on my phone for a while to see if it runs better after it settles into the phone.
Edit: As felacio said on page 2, OC'ing past 1296 MHz will cause serious lag as it causes the phone to constantly operate at the minimum speed allowed by the kernel.

Tried RCMIX 5.0
I flashed this kernel and it didn't seem near as fast as stock plus not near as smooth. The battery life seemed poor as well...

I read that benchmarks dropped (which I personally don't care about), but that overall the phone felt snappier. Either way, it's his first release so I expect future releases to run better. I'm going to run it for a few days and see if it settles into the phone after a bit.

This should be in the development section imo...
Which evo is this for? Cdma or gsm?
- Coz i just saw it in 3D with the Shooter -

Well, I'm not a dev and I didn't make this script, so I'm not going to post in that section. Not to mention, the dev that did tweak this kernel left XDA for reasons I won't get into, so I thought posting in general to let XDA members know about this was the best way to go about it. However, if the mods feel this should be there, then they can feel free to move it.
I'm not sure if it works the GSM model. I want to say yes, but honestly, I'm not sure if there is something between the CDMA & GSM models that will cause this not to work right on GSM.

So cdma? Lol gsm and cdma kernels are completely different and if you flash a cdma kernel on the gsm version or vice versa will inevitably give you a bootloop or worse...

Well, there you go............you're better informed that I am.

Can't find much info on this one but I bet it's like all the other "falsely advertised" 2.3.4 kernels/mods out there in that you can't OC on a 2.3.4 kernel. I've seen a lot of "OC... works on 2.3.4" and what they really mean is that you can OC on a 2.3.3 kernel and it just "works" (without overclocking) on 2.3.4. Stupid, I know. I don't believe there is any way to OC a 2.3.4 kernel as of yet, but my guess is they are getting close now that the source is available.

Yea, I haven't updated my sig. I flashed a 2.3.4 rom once the source for the kernel was released because I knew OC'ing would be right around the corner. I'll update it now. Sorry for any confusion that caused.

Honestly, I'm still at work and I haven't gotten to play with it much. I get off in a few minutes, so I'll play with it some when I get home. There is a definite lag on the phone running this kernel, though.

I'm on Synergy 457 and flashed the RCkernel 5.0.
Overclocking is broke. Anything above 1.296 gets stuck at the lowest value your phone is clocked to. Nothing above that seems to work. That is why its very laggy when overclocked.

Is that why it's lagging? Well, like I said in the OP: it's an early release and it has lag. This means we'll have something that works well soon!

Yeah. But it does OC up 1 notch successfully. That's a great sign... I reverted back to Team XPOSED update4A. I was getting random rebooted and even a bootloop with RC.

Yup, you're right.......reducing the OC eliminates the lag completely. Good call.......

Update: You can OC up to whatever your phone allows if you set the minimum CPU speed as high as the maximum (using SetCPU, but a script may work, too). Just set a custom profile so when so when the screen is off, the CPU speed is at a minimal level to save your battery.
For now, anyway.......

Yep. Daz wadeye said. You cannot overclock 2.3.4 currently. When you can, the dev forum will light up with kernels. So far, only these non-legit claims that say they can OC 2.3.4, only when you try them, none can truly overclock a 2.3.4 ROM.

It's not completely broken....I'm OC'd at 1.3 with this kernel now right using SetCPU. If you go any higher than 1.3, it lags terribly because as felacio stated, it seems to run at whatever the minimum speed you have SetCPU set to.
Using SetCPU, I can set the maximum and minimum speed to anything between 1.2 and 1.7 and it works fine, but obviously you aren't going to get good battery life doing that. You can set a custom profile so when the screen is off, the phone is underclocked, but if you use the phone a lot (like I do), setting the minimum speed that high will drain your battery quickly.
However, with this kernel if you use SetCPU and go to only 1.3, the phone is OC'd (even if it's just a little bit). I have it mine at 1.3 using the ondemand governor and a customer profile set to underclock when the screen is off.

[Kernel] OTB Voodoo5 overclocked kernels. DJ05 Fascinate only [Updated 12/28]

Introducing OTB (only the brave) overclocked voodoo5 kernels. These kernels are for DJ05 only. If you want an overclocked kernel you should be able to find what you want here. These kernels are built from jt1134's and supercurio's latest commits.
Not everyone will be able to run all of the overclocks I have listed. In fact only a select few will be able to run the 1250 and 1300 mhz kernels.
Use these kernels at your own risk. I am not responsible if something goes wrong and you break your phone. I am more than willing to try to help you out in the event you do as are most of the people on IRC.
If you so desire these kernels can be run with voodoo disabled. If you are unsure about how to disable voodoo then you should probably not be running these kernels tho.

OTB 1.1 has fix for missing bitmaps in voodoo cwm and some updates to voodoo. What has not changed is clocks and voltages. If you were unable to run at a certain speed before you probably won't be able to handle it now either. For more information check my github.

Big thanks go to jt1134, supercurio, geeknik, saps, MrThrax, Wilshyre, Bryan, and the many testers that have helped me along the way. Without the help of all the great people in the #samsung-fascinate channel I wouldn't have been able to do this.
Hope you enjoy them. If you feel like donating link is below.
Here are some more kernels I have built. The ul kernels are using the settings adrynalyne used for his comavolt kernels. Which is basically 100mv less than stock for the settings from 100mhz to 800mhz. The sv kernels are all using stock voltages. These kernels are double in size because there is a kernel for recovery included that is at stock clocks and voltages. This is to help prevent you getting locked out of recovery in case your phone can not handle some voltages or clocks I have used in these kernels. Hopefully it is never needed but just think of it as a fail safe (Thanks to JT for the idea and instructions on how to do that). This will probably be the last of these kernels. Next should be aosp when that is ready. Hope you enjoy them and remember flash at your own risk.

Thanks, nemesis! The kernels are fantastic and are the best option for anyone looking for that extra boost in performance. If you're interested in oc I highly recommend you try these kernels, starting with the lower speeds and going higher in increments to see what your phone handles best. These have the latest and greatest cwm recovery for voodoo 5. Just remember not to flash this over any other voodoo unless you're already running voodoo 5. If on anything else you should disable voodoo first and then flash and re-enable voodoo via the awesome recovery from jt1134.
Thanks again to Nemesis2all and all the great devs in irc. You guys make android so much better.
Awesome. Running 1300ov since my phone didn't much like 1300sv. Great job nemesis. Love the speed. hopefully the ov kernel isn't too battery hungry.

Setcpu is not required but I recommend using it. Conservative by default. People testing have noticed better performance on Interactive. Other than benchmarks you will not see much of a difference in day to day use from jt's 12/13.

1.3Ghz-sv scales properly
The ul 1200 kernel is working beautifully for me. Fast and great battery life - what more could someone ask for?
I tried lv1200. It was stable for a few hours.....and then when i opened games and google navigation, my phone started freezing up. I switched to lv1100 and now i'm stable. I guess lv1100 is my limit.
Should I clear out cache in my voodoo folder? it's been built up too much. do i use cwm recovery or remove them manually in sd folder?

I would leave it there unless you really need the space. I would definitely leave the logs in place for voodoo. Can help if you run into problems with it.
I'm glad people are enjoying them, and that most can find an overclock their phone can handle.
I will try to update these twice a week. Until the next big thing comes out. Which might be sooner than I figured.
I guess some phones have to be born so lucky eh? hahaha

Not sure if this was ever asked anywhere on one of the kernel threads.
Is it possible to have similar optimizations to the Voodoo 5 kernel just as the StupidFast kernels do?

Mine gets a little hot at times too. I just pulled mine out of my pocket to show a friend and my screen was on and it was pretty warm, more than usual.
yeaa it gets really hot. i can't even play any hd games. the phone might over heat and crash
I had 14 hours of use today and over 4 hours screen on time. I think the higjest one got was 95 deg
I have the extended battery if that matters
Yeah, she gets a little warm. Anecdotal evidence says that the phones that get way hot (130-150 during games, 120 ish during regular use) have a hardware problem... I have read from a lot of people who have been that hot and say the trade-in was better.
Also, the extended seems to dissipate the heat better.
As for me, I didn't have much of an issue until after the first OTA. Now I top out around 125 when playing heavy games or surfing hard on 4G. Not happy about that, but I don't think it's hardware in my case. I need to get an extended anyway....
Its because of a CPU issue where the CPU runs at the highest clock speed instead of scaling like it should while the screen is on. I have this problem as well and my battery is absolute **** now :|

i am using "easy battery" to help me keep my battery life and kinda keep it cooler. i recommend to return to stock os and wait until the official upgrades are given out.
When I first got this phone it actually ran hot, so hot that I can actually feel the heat on my leg when I put it in my pocket.
When I upgraded to the current leaked RUU, the heat problems went away.
I have zero heat issues on my Rezound, I still haven't gotten the new leak yet, waiting for a ROM that makes me really want to do it.

You could run the RUU again and you would be back to bone stock, albeit a leaked "official" stock, but still stock. You would have the stock recovery and be locked again.

Looking for a Stable Daily Driver

I had been having alot of issues with battery drain so I just Odined back to 2.1, formatted my internal and external sd cards and rooted my phone. I've been using 2.1 for a couple of weeks and I can't stand how sluggish the stock rom is. So I'm back on the hunt for a custom rom. I'm looking for a Stable rom in which everything works normal. I need it to be speedy and at this point I don't care what version of android the rom is. I found this only to be disappointed that the multiupload link to the rom is down... Any ways im just looking for a normal looking stockish rom that isn't as gaudy any of the team toxic stuff but might have the same feature sets and stableness to go along with it. Sorry if this is to long.
if you like stock, you may want to just apply the Voodoo lagfix to your phone. That should solve your sluggishness.
Well the only thing I like about stock is that everything works and a better battery life lol. Other than that I miss all the features of custom Roms so I wouldn't mind a 2.2 or a 2.3 rom as long as its stable, quick and everything works.
What rom were you on before? I've only tried a few roms since I've gotten a vibrant and have felt that the vibrant cm7 nightlies are pretty stable. I would combine with eugene's vibrant stock kernel for good battery life. Some good combinations you may want to try out:
CM7 + eugene's vibrant kernel
ICS Euphoria + Kiss 8.2
CM9 + Kiss 8.2 / or Subzero kernel
ICS is actually quite stable now. There are a few kinks here and there, but its just as good as 2.3.7. I haven't looked into the 2.2 roms so I don't know. Hope this helps.
The last thing I was using was Euphoria but I had serious battery issues, it would last me maybe 6 hours tops =/
If you're looking for something stable and completely functional you should try a 2.2 custom rom. Personally I prefer Bionix 1.3.2. I'm always coming back to this rom when I need my phone to be perfect.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA
Check out Fishman's mods. He's modded Bionix and Deranged9. I am testing an RC version of his D9 that should be released soon enough. Stable, fast, everything works and you can use any and all the 2.2 kernels to OC/UV, Voodoo,...
Themes can always be changed, so I'll take performance over gaudiness, tweak it out and then re-theme it later. ICZenwich is my ICs ROM of choice, but you'll have to go to the Rootz site to get that.
well i will recommend you to try miui rom....it is much stable fast and has good battery life....
iam using ics cm9 nightly it is quite stable for me to use it but they are giving updates constantly and day after day almost every day there is a new update
battery life of cm9 is best i have watched yet they might have used Battery Life eXtender http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257497
use miui have best features that i liked most ever......recommended latest version is 2.3.30.......i use uk build..you can use us build...

If you're looking for something stable and completely functional you should try a 2.2 custom rom. Personally I prefer Bionix 1.3.2. I'm always coming back to this rom when I need my phone to be perfect.

Ofc, I use sio/conserv and undervolt and freeze apps I don't need also though.

Holy crap I think I might have to give this a shot if fishman's doesn't work out to my expectation. Also I've had my phone since launch day I'm not sure how long you've had yours and I think since I've flashed my phone soooo many times and at times without charging it all the =/ it's degraded the life of the battery as well as thrown the calibration completely off. Yes I have tried to recalibrate multiple times as well but the only thing that gets me through the day is being on a 2.2 rom or stock.

I've had my phone for about a year and a half now
Not sure how long the phone's been out haha...but I got it
close to when the vibrant was new ^^
I used to have a lot of issues with battery life...I would maybe get 10 hours.
But after researching and trying new things...I found out a number of things to help, and now I get great life..on most roms.
A tend to keep my battery at 200 - 800 (sometimes 1000)
and undervolt accordingly
1000 -25
800 -50
600 -125
400 -150
100 -175
Ofc undervolting values differ from phone to phone.
I use subzero kernel #70
and use conserv/ sio
I tend to freeze a lot of apps with titanium backup
and use autostarts to make sure apps only start themselves when I want them to.
I use very few widgets, and make sure to kill my apps when Im done using my phone.
I also keep brightness at about 50% - 25% always...rarely at 100%
That is funny. My settings are almost exactly those. Birds of a feather my friend. Still getting used to your name over "there" but I recognized that screen shot right off.
Only difference I see in our settings is that I OC to 1200 and use smartass sometimes and conservative sometimes depending on what I am doing or testingout.
OP, check out my batter guide in my signature or stickied in the Q&A section. It has everyting you need to get the most out of your battery (even if it is an old one) for all ROMs, 2.2, 2.3.x and 4.0.x
X- I am out of thanks for the day but I'll tap yours later on when it resets.
Thanks a bunch guys I really really appreciate it. Also I hit thanks on both =D.
Edit: One last question was do you guys know how to get rid of the Bali splash screen it's pretty hideous...
It is the kernel splash screen so you would have to change it in the kernel itself. As hideous as it is, I use the splash screens for an impromptu reality check. I know if I don't see one in the right order, something is going to go haywire in a minute or two.
For me I have 3
Bootloader splash ->Gingerbread bl
Kernel Splash -> SubZero
ROM Splash -> ICZen In that order. Sure it is big and yellow but the beauty is the ROM animations.
Sidenote: If you don't the boot animation, you can drop one in /data/local and set your permissions and on boot it will show your new one w/o ever changing your original. I do this to my wife's phone alot just to freak her out. She's caught on to it now though.

No. Subzero is an ICS kernel.
Check out Serendipityguy's kernel bible stickied in the Dev section. It will tel you what works with what as far as 2.2, 2.3 and 4.0

I may have actually *stolen* some of my settings from your post, in fact Lol
I used to OC to 1200 and use smartass (or a modified lulzactive) but Subzero's build 70 is so smooth that I can sit at 800 with conserv and feel no lags whatsoever. I can only assume that he's using butter throughout his code lol
Any 2.1/2.2 ROM
2.3 and 4.0 are still in development ...and although stable still buggy

Report issues with ICS leak here.. OP updated 5-1 with list

I thought it would be a good idea to have a place where people can post their issues for others to see before they flash, or developers to fix when they build roms. Or, even better, we the users can try to troubleshoot the issues and confirm/share a fix with everyone else.
If you DO have issues, please state if you are using the stock RUU or one of the roms I'm sure will be pouring out over time..
*AND*
If anyone has any of these issues and can confirm please include in the title ISSUE or CONFIRMED(or workaround/fix along how it was done) in your post along with which issue and I will try to update the OP accordingly.
Example Title:
Code:
Confirmed: 5. Post #88 report of not detecting a wifi access point..
This will help me a lot with updating the OP and helping users find fixes, etc
Reported issues:
A few reports of both cores not being utilized properly(Screenshot of 1 core showing)(Confirmed post #171 this is only an issue if you think quadrant is a good program- it is "junk" )
Facebook not working properly(Potential fix reported #153 for root users: Uninstall facebook from /data/app folder and install from market- confirm if fixed)
Battery being TOO good(multiple times in this thread, lol) except #154 that reports unconfirmed worse battery when playing intensive apps/games
Multiple reports of reduced signal strength that fluctuates more(likely just a radio issue, build.prop edits linked in my signature helped me)
Post #88 report of not detecting a wifi access point- needs confirmation and troubleshooting if confirmed - punkmetalska please report your router settings.(Another user confirmed)
#100 the app screen filter doesn't turn off soft key lights(workaround- keyboard backlight controller or find posts here to edit init.d or use g-script(instructions post #121) to perm disable)
Post #107 issues changing font or startup/shutdown animations changes not sticking
Post #123 Unable to import backed up bookmarks from gingerbread(post #129 confirms)
Post #125 softbutton(?) lights will turn off if automatic brightness is not set
Post #128 removing lookout anti-virus speeds up response of phone
Post #132 Mutiple posts of system battery reporting 2%+ difference in battery than shown in pulldown bar after battery mod
Post #140 reports wifi disconnecting even though later explains wifi set to always on
Post #143 Reports issues with reg99 error for wifi calling and how it started working(in case it helps anyone)
Post #144 Issues changing features in stock keyboard, unable to choose which video player to use when opened in "mobile view"(stock browser?)
Post#145 reports white htc screen popping up intermittently, other users suggest battery pull helping and eventually it stops(building caches?)
Post #148 Reports issues sending MMS while connected to wifi, earlier post I'm too lazy to find also said this when wifi calling on
Post #150 Setcpu doesn't work, later posts give alternatives
Post #151 Stock messaging app doesn't show contact picture though contacts app does, possible fix in post #152(you'll have to search his posts for that day/time). Post #166 adds this issue and same with facebook and gtalk
Post #153 Reports "Camera "Manual Mode" image adjustment dials are impossible to read." *and* "USB OTG is missing. That is part of the android ics." -- I'm not sure I understand the issue, just reporting it here.
Post #157 Reports battery pull needed after phone would not wake from deep sleep- needs confirmation
Post #159 reports status bar can be pulled down without unlocking phone and slow keyboard(I have experienced this with all keyboard apps at random times)- Possible fix(for keyboard) go to main settings-develop options-background process limit(apps in cache) and set to 1-4, needs confirmation)
Post #160 Picasa pulldown in gallery app does not sync(needs confirm)
Post #163 Video button not working(needs confirm)
Post 193 Users reporting having to do a battery pull after phone has sat unused, confirmed by 1 user.
This is updated 4-28 to post #171, page 18

I am right there with you, my phone is prepped and ready to go-- I am just waiting till there is a little more feedback.. I have my old phone in case there is any headache getting switched I still have contact with the outside world, but I read the first 40 pages of the leak thread and it sounds pretty smooth if you understand how to do these things.

I use system tuner, it is a pretty bad ass app-- it should give a lot more detail about how the cores are running, even should have an option to choose how they run- but tons of features.. maybe you should check it out.
I am curious about the roms that will get produced, I would try capcombeta, but since it appears he did it for himself and has no intentions of supporting or continuing the rom, I think I will try the RUU later, or run it thru the kitchen myself adding and removing the things I like or don't like..
So to you two, on a 1-10 scale, how happy are you overall? Is it what you expected, more, or less? Have you tested everything? GPS? BT? WIFI? There must be SOME issues besides a little lag, lol.
And one of my few fears, at least because of experiences on my old phone-- if you wanted to go back to stock(or in our case, gingerbread) you had to be UBER careful to get the old kernels loaded before exiting CWM- simply restoring a nandroid did not do the trick.. so I am curious about what the process will be with our phones, if s-off means a nandroid backup would work perfectly, or if there would be extra steps to get back to gingerbread.
Couldn't be more happy with it, everything is working fine for me and battery seems to be lasting a lot longer so sar. Just install it and see

icy blue
I have the ics ruu flashed on my stock phone (locked, s-on). The odd thing is that it seems to run faster but at the same time whenever I check "running apps" and "available ram" I have 532mb free at most so far but I have seen as low as 392mb. On gb I was averaging between 600-480's. ( I don't use many apps)
I really want to know if there is a way to get the icy blue ICS look for the notification bar/icons?
I mean this is ICS, HTC I don't think many people prefer your average looking Sense notification bar over what google offers with ICS. (I'm also not sure why they didn't just keep the google search bar and pulled down notification transparent)

[Q] Insane Battery Drain (CM/AOKP/AOSP)

Maybe someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. Using a stock rom, I'm losing maybe 10% an hour worth of batter with pretty consistent usage, but when I try CM, or an AOKP like RootBox or an AOSP like CarbonROM, I'm burning at least 3x that at over 30% an hour, with very minimal usage. Is this normal? It seems somewhat excessive, and unusable, to expect a little over 3 hours on a full charge. Is it due to the stock ROMs handling the 4 cores better? It's worth noting that I'm running ROMs with the included kernels for each, without changing any speed settings for the processor, and under stock, I'm using Eco Mode, which obviously will help some, but there's still a very, very big difference. If someone can point me at a solid ROM with a good kernel and good settings for battery life, I'd appreciate it. I'm not a very big fan of LG's stock experience, and changing the launcher and lockscreen only goes so far. lol

Even the sound quality (Incoming call and outgoing) is so low on AOSP based roms like CM etc. CM has always been like that on call quality since my Captivate days. I tried all the ROM's here and found out stock is better once u remove/freeze bloat. May be for others its been better i guess.
Chris, when you install the AOSP rom's are you restoring any system apps with TiBu? I'm experiencing (and I dare say many others are as well) really good battery life with RootBox. Some rogue app you are using is causing the drain because that is not normal behavior.
Maybe just install the ROM, gapps, and that's it for a few hours to see if it runs normally, then slowly start adding in your favorite apps. That way you might be able to determine what it's causing the problem. You should also install better battery stats or Dr. Power.

Yes, I am on the latest RB; however, I'm running the latest Houcha kernel. I might give the included a kernel another go on houstonn's next release. He told me last night he's doing some fine tuning on some things and hopes to have another release fairly soon...I don't know what "soon" is to every other person, so don't quote me on that. Personally, I'm not a fan of underclocking, and I tend to enjoy the additional cpu steps of Houcha over the included kernel.

Volume seems fine to me, but I use a Bluetooth headset. I don't like the volume on speakerphone, unless I'm in a quiet room. Also, if you use the Trickster Mod, it's got an option to increase volume in the settings, not sure if that requires that you have the faux sound version of a kernel or whatnot...

I'm on my second day on newest rootbox with included kernel. Running underclocked to 288 on the low end, smartmax governor. Unplugged this morning at 5:30 am. Hit 69% battery remaining when I picked my daughter up at 4:30 pm. Light use - 20 min screen on browsing, 15 min of phone calls, 40 min pandora on the ride home. One Google account syncing. FB and GNow active. Rest of the random background apps greenified. Wi-Fi and BT off.
It's definitely possible to get decent battery life on this ROM. As stated above, look for rogue apps. Better battery stats is my favorite app for doing this.

Thanks I'll run it for a couple days and give some feed back. So far its looking really promising...started off with about 80% battery before installing and managed to make it for close to 4 hours before going completely dead. Thats four hours of heavy use...web browsing, youtube, texting, flashing and editing apps. where im at my modem is working over time to keep signal plus massive machine interferance(long boring nights at the steel mill again lol) no tricks or tweaks either, auto sync, GPS, and WiFi (even thought not being used) were on.............its on lte too.
