I have my thunderbolt rooted but S-On and I want to get S-off using the Revolutionary tool but the beta key generator tells me to put my HBOOT version number. In recovery mode my thunderbolt says:
HBOOT- 0.95.0000
MICROP-/
RADIO- 1.02.00.0103_2R
So is 0.95.0000 my Hboot version number because the beta key only gives me the options for 1.04.0000 and 1.05.0000. Does this mean I can not use revolutionary tool?

That is your Hboot version. What you can do is accept the OTA to 1.70 which will bring your Hboot up to modern spec, then use Revolution. Or, you can flash the 1.70 RUU which will do the same thing. Your third option, which will work on any device, is the old jcase method using ADB.
When trying to update on the phone it says No new updates available. Ive unfrozen all the verizon bloatware and I am still finding no new updates.
Where can I find the 1.70 RUU? and in order to flash it all I have to do is put the .img file on my sd card root and boot into recovery right?
Thanks in advance for all the help. I realize how uninformed I must come off.

Well, that's why I wrote the thread at the top of the Q&A Forum. It explains a good deal of things, but not everything. This is the link to the RUU. Just name it PG05IMG.zip and flash it via bootloader, not recovery. You will loose your root, but once you're S-off again, restoring it won't be any big deal. I'm not sure if it will wipe your phone or not, but even if it doesn't, I'd still backup all your stuff.
Thank you so much for all the help. Ill attempt it all now. Hopefully everything goes smoothly
Use adb its more fun and if you are like me you will learn something LOL

I have gotten S-Off and updated my radio to mr3.5. But I no longer have root. Im trying to get the SynergyRom on my phone but I am stuck on how to do it because I no longer have root.
Any suggestions?
If you have s-off you should be able to download superuser and either install the apk or push via adb and gain root. If it works for ya hit thanks if not tell us what happened...

You might just end up with the retail price of a Thunderbolt on your next bill. Really tho they will be able to take one look and see you are running leaked software.
BTW the pink "Locked" at the top of hboot has to do with having HTC's official unlock capabilities built in. You can still root that build easily.

Well I don't know of any root method where the first thing you do is flash an hboot so..... Also the only way I know of for sure to root that build is with Revolutionary but I don't think there is a mac version. Plus it makes it somewhat hard to get back to stock when you use Revolutionary.

***LOCKED*** On Bootloader
Hello All,
First of all thanks for the awesome easy guide !!
This is the first time I am rooting my HTC Tbolt and have had an issue to start with.
Used the instructions in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401959
After I download the 2.11.605.5 downgrade zip, I rename it, put in on the SD Card and go to HBOOT and it installs the downgrade just fine.
But at the end of this process, when I try to get the MR4 Radio onto the SD Card and install it, it simply does not happen. HBoot checks for the file, finds it, but nothing happens. I have renamed in properly and followed instructions to the dot.
I also noticed a ***LOCKED*** right on top of the screen and I think this could be an issue.
Can I go ahead and proceed with the Revolutionary Root Technique ? Would this be possible at this point ?
Is there anyway I can get Flash the MR4 Radio before I actually root ?
Also, would I be able to flash the MR4 Radio onto my device after Rooting ?
Any help is much appreciated !
Thanks in advance !
Cheers !
So I'm getting a replacement thunderbolt in the mail sometime tomorrow I was told. My phone right now is unrooted and running MR2 with the MR2 radio as well. The thing is, is that I have s-off with Revolutionary. Is there any way to turn that back on? I don't even know if it will be a problem when I send it in, if they'll even look at that, but I'd rather be on the safe side.
Anyone know how I could get back to s-on after using Revolutionary?
Thanx for the help.
This file not only unroots your phone, it flashes the stock h boot as well. This worked for me 4 times, and I'll use it again later this week for the 5th time when I get my 6th t bolt.

I dont think that works for hboot if you used revolutionary method. At least it didnt for me. Only way i found was taking the hboot image out of that zip file and flashing it via adb. I think it has something to do with the revolutionary hboot being locked down to prevent it from being overwritten somehow.
And i really dont remember the adb commands used to flash it. I had to Google it.

There should be a link in my [q AND a] describing how to undo a Revolutionary S-off.
I just bought an EVO 3D off craigslist. The phone is unlocked and working with Cricket Wireless and gonna continue using it there and not with Sprint.
When I get into the bootloader. It says *UNLOCKED* 1.5 S=ON.
I was able to get into a CWM recovery.
I think it is rooted but unsure.
Do you have an app called super user or supersu installed?

I just remembered how to check. It seems I am rooted as I was able to use the SU command in terminal and I have superuser installed.
Will I be able to install roms whats all this about 1.4 downgrade and S=Off?

No, you're not rooted. You're unlocked...which is close, but no cigar. You'll have to "relock" your phone if you want to go back to 1.4 hboot with s-off. No biggie...took me half an hour at most. Just make sure you have the files you need at hand plus the live Linux cd/dvd.

You are rooted just fine. Never heard of half assed rooted.
The only thing is your S-On so the partition where the radio/firmware are, you won't be able to change unless you go S-Off.
To answer your question, you can still flash many roms. Some ICS roms will not work because they require the new radio and firmware. Any GB rom and many ICS you can flash right now with no problems.
If you flash the newest 4ext Recovery, it will save you from having to manually flash the boot.img file separately after you install the rom. Although flashing the boot.img through the adb fastboot is no big deal.

No such thing as half-assed root. Either you are rooted or not. He just has S-ON meaning he cannot flash a custom PG86IMG.zip from the bootloader. Only PG86IMG.zip that are signed by HTC. Also he is limited to which partitions he can flash to.
Being unlocked is better than being rooted. Think of it as a low-level root. Like being able to tweak your BIOS settings instead of just being the admin user of Windows.
No it sucks. I spent 3 hours in boot loops the other night because of this f**king S-ON bs. My phone will not flash ANY ICS rims and any kernel that has overclocking capabilities puts me right back in the boot loop even using adb. My Evo 4G was rooted via Revolutionary, but this S-ON sucks. I hate it, but I'm not going to brick my phone to downgrade.

You must be mistaking. S-ON devices are really hard to brick.
If they weren't HTC would be loosing lots of money.
The least trouble you will have to go by downgrasing is having a security warming on your bootloader which can be fixed by flashing the signed PG86IMG.zip file COMPLETELY.
And FYI, Downgrading isnt the only way possible to gain S-OFF.
There's also Juopunutbear S-OFF which can be found HERE.
Which will only require you to return to stock/unlocked with root access. and a simple wire trick.
Good luck in your future bootloops though and have a nice sunny day..

I don't understand why some are telling JeffMeister that he is not or just half rooted. If your bootloader says "hboot 1.5 S-ON Unlocked" and you have SU installed, that means you are rooted. Sure the boot partition is read-only, but theres easy ways around it.
I've had hboot 1.5 S-ON since I had my phone. I've never felt the need to get S-OFF because there are tools to get around that now. I've been flashing ROMS back and forth using various methods with no issues. For hboot 1.5 & S-ON users, the latest and greatest is 4EXT recovery. It did an excellent job at flashing custom roms & kernels as if I was S-OFF.
I suggest you read the basics about flashing and roms first. If you do use 4EXT Recovery, make sure "4EXT Smart Flash" is enabled(it will prompt you on first use).
So I updated my rezound to the newest RUU minus the Global roam ota, still s-on, but i got courageous and tried to s-off my device yesterday using control bear...it didnt work, so my questions are as follows, does the new RUU make it difficult to get s-off? and how do I revert to a RUU that will allow me to do s-off? any help would be awesome. i tried to use an older RUU but when the bootloader scanned the ph98img.zip, it only scanned it but never went thru any of the motions to change the system. fml

seriously??? so itll still work?
yes, I used Hasoon2000's S Off Toolkit. First I tried it using a laptop and windows 7, and for some reason it didnt work. Then I used my desktop with XP and it loaded. Then it was all about the timing with the wire. Took about 75 times, but it worked!
I also got s off after installing the global RUU. It was a PITA, but eventually worked, just like mclass.

I tried on my wife's to s-off, failed, flashed a 605.5 stock rom and ran the 605.5 controlbear and finally got it. Then flashed the global RUU, re-unlocked, and flashed inef deus (based on the global). Working great now. FWIW, he doesn't say it will work with other ROMs/RUUs...says it might, but then gives the combos that work well.
I received a replacement Rezound today and have messed it up beyond my repair. When I powered the new phone on it was on the old GB software. I manually searched for an update which was finally found. I downloaded the update and went through the process of installing it. About half way through the update, a red triangle with an exclamation point appeard. I tried this process twice and then decided to run the RUU that I had installed on my sd card from my prior phone. The RUU was the most recent ICS.
At this point I was not S-off or rooted, but completly stock. The RUU did not fully run but it did update my HBOOT and Radio's. When I boot the phone, it is still on GB software. I have some how changed my bootloader to show Tampered as well.
I was able to flash a zip file of AmonRa 3.15 and was able to flash ViperRom 1.03. I thought this would correct the problems and allow me to S-Off but it did not.
I thought that if I could S-off I could maybe get this all straight. But I am not sure.
At this point, I have a phone that reboots after a few short minutes.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

If it tanked doing the OTA ICS update right out of the box, I'd call VZW for another phone...
Thank you for the reply, but my hboot now says tampered and relocked. I do not think I could send the phone back in this condition and get a new one.
Anyone else have any ideas?
Un-lock using HTC unlock then s-off your phone using some wire tied to a couple thumb tacks. Run latest ruu again, then install recovery, then flash Rom.
