[Q] My phone is too hot - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have installed on my Atrix, Home Base VERSION #4 MEGA Base (B) DEBLURRED (MEGAEXT4)
After that, my phone started to heat up more. Arriving at the 80ºC processor.
The battery came in 44ºC.
Now, this 50ºC in the processor.
The normal is that?
Translated by google translator

My phone gets warm when im doing some things as well, unless its physically hurting you or melting the plastic, you should be fine

mine has gotten over 60c to the point i couldnt hold it tight for that long

Grab a good case, because this phone gets very slippery when it gets too hot.
TPU cases and Otterbox are both good for this phone...

To make sure it isn't a hardware issue, try a different ROM. 80°C gets me worried.

It's the ROM, because it only heated up after having placed it.
I'll put the other now, if it continues to heat up I have to return to the Brazil STOCK
I put this HB VERSION #3 MEGA Base (WITH BLUR) (MEGAEXT4)
thanks guys

Did you bother underclocking it? It might be running at 1.3 and you don't want that. That will obviously make it hot.

Use watchdog to identify the misbehaving app. There must be something which must have been keeping the CPU busy.

My phone rarely gets "hot". I gotta be pegging a lot of stuff for a while and.be plugged.in to get hot. I have display tweak which draws less.current and a very decent undervolt.
I voided my warranty and your mum.

Question about overclocking your vibrant

So I've been wondering does keeping it oc at 1.2ghz damage anything to the phone? I've read that it can kill your device lifespan is that true? Thanks

Not exactly.
Some of the Vibrants just can't handle ANY overclocking at all, they just freeze, and reboot too much because your processor is being worked too hard when it can't do it.
If you have a normal, regular vibrant, then yeah you can such as me, i can overclock as much as i want, i've gone to 1.4 with no problems...
but some people do have the problem, and having that can burn the plastic in your phone (its happened to a few over the year)

Yep.
Mine can run at 1.4 EASY with no heating up at all (I was surprised).
I wish there was a 1.6+ kernel, so I could push this processor to the max.
To understand the limits of the Vibrant's processor it's important to understand processors in general.
The process of manufacturing for a processor is not perfect. You get pristine chips and below standard chips; so essentially no two processors are the same just like fingerprints. So what they do for quality control is stress test each one individually within a specific range. If it can handle 1Ghz up to 1.x then it passes, if it can't hit 1Ghz minimum then it's destroyed/recycled (or whatever numbers Samsung in this case felt were reasonable). It's the only way to ensure every device functions the same.
Now translate that into people's individual phone. In essence it's the luck of the draw. Did you get the perfect manufactured chip? Only way to tell is to over clock it and stress test it. Some people get the perfect one, and others get the ones that barely made the cut. It works the same for all electronics.
Hope this information helped.

Samsung Vibrant vs myTouch 4G?

Hi guys, im going back to android (had a G1 a year ago) from blackberry (got tired) and im getting two good offers on these phones, but since these smartphones are SO different to what i used to have (G1 xD), im kinda confused wich one is better, so i want you guys to help me out here, wich is one should i get? Vibrant or myTouch 4G?
Internet speed its not important since i don't live in a 4G area (in fact, there isn't any 4G coverage at all in my country), but i like to play games and stuff like that. I like my phone to be fast and with very little lag. I have read on internet that Samsung's Hummingbird processor its better than the Snapdragon proccesor that the myTouch 4G have, but, i don't know why, i keep reading on forums that the myTouch 4G is faster than the Vibrant...how is that possible? The Vibrant have more RAM, ROM (16GB Internal, the myTouch have only 4GB), faster proccesor, better GPU...well, im a little confused there too.
Any opinions?
Mytouch 4G. It has way more features and has a bigger community of devs.
Camera with FLASH! Trackpad. Front Camera. Metallic build quality.
With both phones stock, the HTC has 700+ mb of ram available and the Vibrant has only 304+ available. The other issue is file systems. The HTC uses I think ext4 and the Vibrant uses its home grown system of RFS. I feel the RFS system is probable the biggest issue to slow the phone down. I have mine rooted with custom rom that uses ext4 (voodoo) and it is faster with much better battery life then all the stock MT4G's that I have seen. If you are not going to root anything then I would recommend the MT4G or even look at the G2x. But the screen on the vibrant is killer
myTouch4G has 768mb ram, Vibrant has 512mb (about 330mb is available for Android to use, depending on the rom).
I'd say the MSM8255 Snapdragon is probably on-par with the Hummingbird in the SGS - the SGS does have a much better GPU for 3D gaming, though.
The Vibrant may have a 16gb ROM, but only 2gb is available for app storage, the rest is treated as an internal SD card.
They would both be great phones, but the Vibrant has the better screen.
I have a vibrant and my wife has a mt4g. I would say if youre going to root and flash roms get the vibrant, but if youre going to leave it stock get the mt4g. Both phones were laggy stock to me. Im much happier with the dev community for the vibrant though. I've flashed 6 or 7 different roms on the mt4g (including cm7) but none of them seem as complete as bionix or trigger
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Ok, i forgot to say this, but im TOTALLY going to root the phone. In fact, is one of the mains reasons that im comming back to android (and here plays the song "Im comming home" by Dirty Money ), i love flashing roms, looking for bugs in new roms, the excitement of someone releasing a new rom (like Cyanogen), trying out weird apps in the market place and all that kind of stuff, i DON'T like stock phones at all...i installed OS6 on my Blackberry 9300 as soon as i got it, looking for something different (running away from stock), still was a pretty boring phone tough.
You have told me guys that both phones stock, the MT4G its faster, but what about both phones rooted? Should i get the Vibrant? Or even both phones rooted, the myTouch its still better?
EDIT: Also, are the Samsung Vibrant and the Samsung Captivate the exact same device? Under the hood, of course.

Well, I absolutely love my vibrant. Plenty fast (q score 1600+), amoled screen rules, and camera takes amazing pix. Flash isn't an issue since I don't really take pix in the dark lol.
It has less ram, but its near impossible to hard brick from what I've read. I'd say go vibrant, and if you don't like it, flash back to stock and exchange for the mt4g.

My problem its that im buying it second hand, so its not as easy as i"f i dont like it, i just take it back..." So thats why i have to make the right choice, because oncei buy the phone, its going to be difficult to sell it again.
Well, I'd say that if you don't have 4g coverage, why buy a 4g phone. Its like buying a Ferrari when you live in Poland. Maybe not as expensive, but you can't take full advantage of it. Lol.
Do you have any questions about the phone itself? Not spec wise?

If you are into gaming, then vibrant hands down. Here are the things I would take into consideration.
1. Bigger dev community for the mytouch4g. I think most of the people with the vibrant will be leaving for the Sensation or the galaxy 2 if they have the funds. I am going with the galaxy S 2 myself. With that being said the development will dwindle down to nothing by the end of the summer.
2. There are great roms for the vibrant right now. Trigger, Bionix, and a bunch of stable 2.2.1 roms to choose from.
3. I don't know if a stable cm7 will ever happen for the vibrant. They have it working ok. Plenty of bugs, and bad battery. Also no 2.3 rom has working gps because of drivers. You will have to wait on a leaked 2.3 rom for the vibrant I think.
I love my vibrant for gaming. I have about 5 Gameloft games.. bogo for $2.99 . Can't beat that. And the phone handles them beautifully. I am running Trigger btw, just because I wanted a stable rom until I get the galaxy 2 .
I hope this helps with your decision, I know I rambled a bit. But I think i covered everything on the development side for you.

The USB port that's basically it. Also battery life sucks for me as well.
This phone was pretty well built other than the GPS sucking, but I don't use it that much nor do I actually have big problems like others.
We also need more love from Samsung so we can get a Gingerbread leak going

Cuz before we use to plug in the phones just to charge them. Now every time you log in to XDA (or your favorite Devs. forum) there is some new **** you wanna install in your phone....plug-unplug...oh I just found this new cool wallpaper...plug-unplug...new ROM...plug-unplug...new kernel...plug-unplug...new (you get the point). You probably plug-unplug your phone 10 times during the course of one day. Back then it was just once every 2-3 days to charge. Don't say they make them cheaper now, they just get abused now.
...Oh yeah, almost forgot. My biggest problem (besides not getting GB for the Vibrant) is that when I wanna take a picture in a dark place I noticed I'm missing that little small LED light that shines when you take a picture which most new phones comes with....what is it called???...oh yeah is a ****ING FLASH SAMSUNG! WTF what is a roll of the dice? "OK lets see which of the new Galaxy S devices is NOT getting a flash just for the **** of it...roll it"...OR.... "Sir, sir we forgot to put a flash on the one going out for t-mobile"...." **** them I have Verizon anyways, keep going"
**** lack of proper gps, **** bad usb (actually mine is alright so idk) but goddammit! Why the **** doesn't this have flash?
there isn't even a logical answer to that.

Overheating issues?

Anybody feel their amaze getting really really warm, almost hot? Kinda makes me not wanna use my phone a lot just because the heat might mess it up.
This happens around 15 mins of usage.
I haven't had that issue even under heavy use like games, videos, and web.
It may be an app or apps constantly running. Do you check your task manager often? U may have to kill some apps. Also is it charging when you use the phone? I know it gets hot quickly that way.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
Really depends on what's running. When you first initialize the phone it's going to get hot as it syncs and updates everything but that should pass. If you have location enabled and use the gps, it will get hot, if you use maps and the screen is on, it will get hot...just check it for whats running and delete whats unnecessary. Of course I'm waiting for the root to really delete the crapware.
My amaze has been overheating it feel's like it's on fire randomly sometimes , even when im not on apps .
Mine gets really hot too.. not quite but almost too hot to touch. It's not even plugged in when it happens and its just from playing music it charging.. no heavy usage. Hopefully it'll disappear once we get some roms with no bloatware!

Yeah, both phones are great. Its just with finding the right fit for you. I chose GS2 because I figured we would have a larger dev community, its lighter because of its plastic design and Super Amoled+. The downside of this phone is its resolution, but I don't notice it that much for it to be a big con. I heard some people actually rather the hefty-ness of the Amaze. I'm not gonna lie I love the design quality of it. HTC is always known for gorgeous designs.

you also have to remember 2 things though.... 1) the unibody designs always conduct the heat to the outside of the phone, although its operating at the same temp of most phones, the reason you notice it with the newer htc models is cause you can actually feel the heat cause of the unibody... 2) the sammys are all plastic, which doesnt conduct heat too well, so although its getting hot inside, you dont feel it. they both prob run at close if not the same temps, but you can just notice it more on the htc... thats all.

how to root and unlock bootloader without computer?

I don't really have a computer. My phone IS my computer. How do I root this thing and install CWM without a computer?
By the way, my atrix has over 1,000 more quadrant scores than the note, WTF?! ? I THOUGHT THIS WAS Samsung's fastest device? This is F-- ing pathetic. My atrix came out before the iPhone 4 over a year and a half ago.. I just got ripped off.... only 2700 quadrant, are you kidding me??
We don't have CWM available yet to us. We do have a modified 3e recovery, which is flashable via Odin. Unfortunately, you need a computer to install the recovery and OC/root kernel.

First, the bootloader on this phone is not locked. Secondly, its a fast phone. My scores were higher than that even before I installed the root/oc kernel.

That was the old quadrant probably then. On the old quadrant, my atrix got 5300+ easily. On the new one it gets like 4,000. This thing gets like 2700. What a bunch of crap. The FIRST dual core phone ever made is faster than my new $700 phone.... lawl.

I don't know how long you've used the atrix, you would notice that no matter which ROM you use, you'll find there's some lag. I've been using this phone for not even 24 hours yet and its noticeably faster than the atrix.

I had 3d cube transitions everywhere in my interface. Clocked at 1450mhz I had no lag at all. On ICS 4.0.3, it didn't even lag at stock clocks with the heavy interface. Games NEVER LAGGED on the Atrix, even underclocked to 800mhz.
Oh, and ive been using it for a year and a half. The atrix came out before the iphone 4.
Clearly you're not happy with your purchase. Just go back to the atrix. Seems pretty simple to me.

An idiot would say that. I love my Note. I sold my atrrix for $150 and bought Alpine door speakers already for my car from that. I'm extremely happy with that.
What I'm pissed off about is that technology isn't getting any better as fast as it should. Moors law is dead.
Well...I wish you and your unrealistic expectations the best going forward, sir.
But just in case, here you go...
