Find your way to a windows XP and it should work. Can you not use Odin?

Nah my computer doesn't recognize it in odin

Maybe a newer/older version of ODIN. Search to see if you can find one that is known to be compatible with Win7
Have you cheked your USB DEBUG setting?
George
Hi,
I have the same exact problem.
Did you find any solution?
Thanks a lot,
Yochai.

Rooting and flashing on Mac

Any word on what program those of us on osx can use to get root and flash Roms? Thanks!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk
Windows haha jk hope you guys get an easy way to root and rom too. This thing is awesome once a couple mods are applied
I use parallels i install the kies software and odin
it works well
Even ADB works within that environment
It is a pain but seems that most of the flashing tools/rooting tools are in the windows/linux environment

what I always use, fusion
I just boot into windows in bootcamp, I've had issues with virtual machines not working right, but in all fairness that's been over a year ago.
It is theoretically possible to do flash the rooted kernel through Heimdall Command Line via Terminal. I say theoretically because I tried it on a machine with Lion and one with Snow Leopard and I got errors with both. I ended up finding a windows computer and did it the Odin way.
http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
I have a mac machine that I have rooted my Samsung Epic Touch 4g on many times, using heimdall
heimdall flash --kernel zimage
can I do the same exact procedure on this phone, assuming I find a good rooted kernel, extract the zimage file from it, and flash it?
Thanks so much!

Galaxy Player 3.6 not rooted possibly bricked

Okay so first of all I've been trying to root this Galaxy Player for a while apperantly there's a rom with root already on it so I downloaded it and tried to flash it using Heimdall for Mac. Now the device won't boot it is stuck on the Samsung part with a yellow triangle and does nothing after that. I tried to restore it by using the pit file but it still won't work is there anything I can do? Please help thanks

Using the Heimdall software I successfully unbricked the player. I had to force the device in download mode then download the recovery image. Then I flashed it using the kernel option. I'd like to root this device using either the Android SDK or Heimdall can anyone help me thanks

You never mentioned if you have the us or international version. If you have a physical home button it is international, capacitive home button is us. In Odin you just flash it in PDA mode, I would expect it to be similar for you, but I've only used odin
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app
I'm using the United States version no physical button. Odin doesn't work on a MAC computer I also have a version of Linux that's compatible with Ubuntu repositories so if there's some other kind of software I can use. I just strictly use Unix like operating systems

those are the files for rooting your device. i used odin but im sure you can use heimdall.

So iv flashed the rom now I still don't have super user access I use Heimdall still anyone know how to root this device with the Android SDK?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
i decided to try to get heimdall working on osx (i also only use unix, and only have windows handy in a vm for using odin)
I renamed the .tar.md5 files to .tar and extracted the .img from them.
first i tried
Code:
heimdall flash --factoryfs factoryfs.img
with heimdall 1.3.2 i had problems uploading factoryfs.img so i downgraded to heimdall 1.3.1
with 1.3.1 it flashes factoryfs.img, but then my device just bootloops
i have tried heimdall from a linux vm as well but i get the same results.
the fix is easy, i simply open my windows vm, attach the device in download mode (i love my usb jig!), open odin, check pda, click pda, select my factoryfs.tar.md5 and click start
i too would like to get this working in heimdall, let me know if you have better luck with it!
I know that copying the su binary to the system/bin doesn't work because apperantly its a read only file system
IV tried copying the su binary keep getting read only status. There has to be a way to use the Android SDK to get this thing rooted. I rooted my Nexus 7 using psneuter still no luck with the Galaxy Player thouh
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
If you want root you need to flash the file in odin.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app
So what your saying is that i can flash the su binary to the xbin or bin... Or just flash the rom im afraid of a boot loop i experienced
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I get the same boot loop results using heimdall. I'm trying to find a fix. Until we find it, use it in Odin and it works.

ODIN does not detect phone

Hey all. Decided to go back to Froyo stock. When I try to ODIN in download mode, it doesnt detect the phone!
Code:
MacPro:~ nomadman$ heimdall detect
Failed to detect compatible download-mode device.
I'm no OS X Mountain Lion. I tried ODIN 1.7 in WinXP virtual machine and it doesnt detect it either. I know the USB cables work. I use it to transfer my backup from the vibrant to my OS X desktop. I also tried using all the USB ports on the machine. Do you think it's because the vibrant is using a jelly bean custom rom? I've been at this for 3 days without getting anywhere.
in OS X Mountain Lion and virtual XP, i installed Kies Mini and all I get is "please connect your mobile phone" in Download Modes.
HELP?
edit: resolved
Have you tried nexus S drivers? Sometimes they are needed when on a ICS or jellybean rom.

I have no come across nexus S requirements. But i'll download the driver from samsung and see if Odin and Kies detects the phone in download mode. There is no problem detecting the phone when it booted up. adb detects the phone fine.
the nexus s has the same driver for the t-mo vibrant. Samsung_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.14.0
I installed that in windows several times.
Have you put the phone in download mode? Odin or Heimball wont detect it otherwise. Sorry if you have but you didn't mention it. Im not familiar with mac pc so not really sure, make sure it has admin privileges also.

Yes the phone is always on download mode every time I try to Odin or Heimball. It's just OSX or winXP doesn't recognize the phone at all. I really think I'm stuck without a downgrade option.
Is it possible to flash a zip file from ICS recovery to an earlier recovery so I can flash a froyo rom? This is really irritating.. Last ditch effort, i'm installing ubuntu on VM and see if I can odin that way. If not, then OS X is the issue and I have to find a PC to odin.

No, there are no stock flashable zip files. You can't go backwards, it will soft brick your phone. I have heard a few people say they have flashed from JB to Froyo but I personally have never tested it. Supposedly you can wipe data, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache, then format system under mounts and storage, then flash a froyo kernel and then a froyo rom but I don't recommend trying that. I would try a windows pc, sounds like its the mac having issues, not the phone.

Stock Recovery

I'm on stock, non-rooted LCA43 with TWRP installed. I'd like to fastboot stock recovery, and relock boatload so I can sell this device and upgrade. Problem, I'm struggling to find stock recovery.
Anyone have it handy?
Thanks in advance!

Files I needed were found HERE. I have fastbooted and now ready to go.

Can't get them to work. Side load in TWRP won't recognize my watch. ADB works fine when booted into the OS, and fastboot recognizes the device. It would be so much simpler to just fastboot the files, then fight with TWRP and ABD. I have a copy of the OTA, not sure what files to pull from it to flash. I know that commands, just need the right files. Thanks though!
