Why is it the opera and dolphin slow my whole system down. I'm using uruk 1.5 right now and I have had the same problem with many of the old stock firmwares. Am I the only one who has this problem?

Nope.
The problem is that when you surf the net, you have alot of things in memory.
Every Picture that is loaded, every page rendered etc is cached in memory until that runs out.
And Opera is very bad, as it tries to speed up some operations by using more memory.
Also Opera is allways putting the cache into /data so on a small data partition ( orginal archos ) you run out of mem quite fast.
Right fzelle;-)
@OP:
If you want a browser, that doesnt need so much memory of your system, you should try Dolphin Browser Mini

i have htc desireS with virtuous unity saga (with sense). major problem im having with opera and default android internet browser is that it keeps closing almost all the time - when i start any other application. when i go back to browser, all tabs refresh.
i did some research and found out that android memory management is not very good :/
i have 100MB RAM free at all times. when starting+closing shadowgun+angry birds, i can get 180MB extra free RAM(no visible application is closed while getting this extra RAM).
when i close shadowgun+angry birds apps, i can get almost 300MB free RAM total. after while(with no extra apps started) it goes back to 100MB free RAM. i saw the same behavior with HTC Sensation running stock ROM and Nexus S running stock ICS ROM(all hover around 100MB RAM free most times).
is there any way how to protect internet browser before all other "empty_apps"? for example changing category of opera from "empty_app" to "hidden_app". i tried changing it with auto memory manager, but it reverts back to default in few seconds.
i was testing most common browsers and found out that skyfire browser is the only browser which is running as "hidden_app" with OOM4(all other browsers are "empty_apps" OOM9+, thus closed first).
to test if skyfire is the only browser which can survive almost everything i tried starting skyfire(this was started first to test OOM - should be closed first), opera, dophinhd and default browser. then i started angry birds to force low memory. only skyfire survived with open web page. all other web browsers reset, weird is that with angry birds running, i still had 112MB free RAM. when i do the same test without starting skyfire, all other browsers are closed anyway, with free RAM around 100MB.
any ideas(other than sticking to skyfire)?
i am running Rocko rom 3.0 and webtop+ 1.3 but it's done this ever since new and stock.
if i try to load a web page that has a decent amount off pictures firefox will close. now since going to rocko and webtop+ it will lock up my phone all together... even if i unplug the phone from the hddmi cale i will have to do a battery pull to get it to work again.
i thought maybe there wasn't enough free space in .osh to cache all the photos so i moved webtop to sd (8gb) and it still does the same thing. anyone have any idea what i can do to fix this?
edit: for reference this is a page that will cause my problem: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=695011&page=18
Wow! The initial load of that page eats over 400MB of RAM on a regular PC. I had to set up a 500MB dedicated cache for Firefox to even get it to load in webtop. Webtop caches Firefox in RAM so wt2sd wouldn't fix it.
I could create a custom preference file with a massive dedicated disk cache for you of instruct you how to do it. The drawback is that webtop Firefox will run slower and be doing a lot of writes to some sort of flash memory. This may cause premature failure of either the internal memory or the SDCard depending on where the cache is put.
i pretty much figured that is what the problem was. thanks for the offer to help but i couldn't imagine webtop being slower than it already is. i was hoping to just carry this phone and my mini bluetooth keyboard on a upcoming trip but i guess i'll need a net book or just take the time to post from my phone.
Hey guys,
My phone was quite fast and responsive when i first bought it. But now aftre 9 months of use i have found that it has slowed down. I shifted from GB to ICS but that hasnt made any difference. The load up of contacts takes especially long.
I was woundering if like in computers we defragment the HD do we need to do the same on phones ocasionaly.
Please let me know if there are apps for this or any solutions.
If u do this u can break ur phone

if your device has become slow, you might want to think about performing a wipe / factory reset every once in a while. also, delete contents from your sd card, apart from music, videos and pictures.
defragmenting from a pc won't help, but also won't break your phone.
The filesystem that Android uses doesn't fragment like Windows' one does, therefore defragmentation isn't possible. You could try clearing up some space though. E.g. deleting apps, music, photos etc.

only half true. sure, the filesystem on the system partitions can not be defragmented, but they are not directly accessible from a windows pc anyways, i believe the op was talking about /sdcard/ and the external_sd/ or /emmc/, which usually are formatted in fat32 and can be defragmented. if he copied several things simultaneously, it might even be fragmented.
Check the free space available on the internal sdcard - my Wife's GSII had a similar problem where it would almost grind to a halt. It turned out the sdcard was full, and transferring the photos/videos off the 'phone returned performance to normal.
Thnks all. I think they are good suggetions and i will try them out and let you know the result.
Sometimes when I'm browsing ( using Chrome but not necessarily, sometimes when reading an article with Facebook internal browser ) it simply crash without any message, just return to home screen. When I check the used ram is at 450-500-550, signs of an automatically ram clear ( I'm not using any free ram tool ). Seems that the system simply end apps due low ram I suppose but shouldn't start with background apps? Why it clear my foreground application? What do you know about this?
Strangely as it happens lately before I didn't had any similar issues, it doesn't matter how many tabs I had opened in Chrome, never but never crashed. This happens also with the stock Browser so the problem could be the system actually, not an app.
I'm on Stock from sammobile
Nobody?
I have 2 problems with my S2 (stock 4.1.2 rooted with CWM)
So theres 2 problems:
1.The first one is that all my apps are installed on the device memory instead of installing on the internal storage (USB Storage) , when I try to transfer it to sd card it says "unable to move app , not enough storage space" so I dont know what to do ..
*apps like link2sd dont load or just dont work ...
2. The second problem is that I using Chrome browser ... but when I press the icon there's a 1.5-2 second delay before really launching .. every other app launch just fine quickly only Chrome launch in delay ...
So thanks for any help and sorry for my english its not my native language

It seems like I cant edit my post ...
The chrome app launch in delay like it doesnt even get cached in the ram...
1. I'm not sure, perhaps you have to be rooted for using Link2SD successfully? I don't know.
2. I think this is normal, because Chrome is a very heavy app, like most browsers are. I also always have to wait 2 seconds when launching Firefox or even YouTube.
