[Q] PWGB and Voodoo Sound - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After trying a bunch of different ROMs over the last year or so, I can honestly say that PWGB 2.0b3 is the one that comes closest to perfection for me. The only thing I'm missing (as I'm aware a lot of PWGB users are) is a Voodoo kernel. Specifically, I am dying without Voodoo sound and the Voodoo Control app from supercurio.
Has anyone tried the 'Voodoo Control Plus' paid app on this ROM yet? I will purchase it today if someone can tell me whether or not it will work with the current kernel that comes with PWGB.

App works great, I have been using this rom and kernel with no issues.

It works fine

Thanks for the quick reply! I've purchased and installed the Voodoo Control Plus app and it's working great! So nice to have that clarity and volume back once again! Kudos to supercurio for making the SGS phones simply awesome, and the best audio experience, hands down!

it will work, it can load the voodoo sound control module without you having a custom kernel, im using it as we speak

Just be sure to set "Recording Preset" to Original if you plan on recording video. For me at least, it won't record audio on the Balanced setting (which it sets to automatically as its the default). Havent tried it with the other settings, since setting to back to Original fixed audio recording for me.

This works on stock kernel?

Works on both stock and the two new voodoo kernels. One by ccampos himself. Like stated by splashattach make sure "recording present" is set to original. Otherwise there will be no sound in video.

[Q] HELP! My name is Nick and I'm addicted to flashing!!

But that's not my main issue...I've come to terms with my addiction. I'm ready to live my life flashing roms after every update. I do have a few real questions though...and I don't need the answer...just someone to post a link and I'll do all the reading. There are just so many threads now I don't even know where to look anymore.
My questions:
1. I saw somewhere on a thread someone posted a badass skull icon as their "app drawer button" (I'm sure there is a name for it...so forgive me) on their dock. Well I can't find the post anymore, and I have no idea where to look. How do I install something like this? Just download an icon somewhere?
2. SetCPU - I paid for it...and I'm sure I'm not using it right...anyone got a link to a guide? I've run various lagfixes...like a Eugene kernel, but there are so many different option while in recovery I have no clue what they do. This may be two questions actually...I tend to get distracted...oh look a blue car!
3. I'm currently running the TOXIC Beta2. I like it..and I love the dialer, and the status bar...green is cool. But like I stated, I'm addicted to flashing and I'm itching to try Master's 2.1 Axura ROM. Is there a way to have this dialer on other ROMS?
Ok, that's all for now. I know these may seem like basic questions, but I taught myself to root, flash, poop, etc. all by myself without asking a million questions that you can find with a little bit of research...so I'd appreciate some helpful responses. Thanks!
Hey bro. Unfortunately I can't help with #1 or #3. But I might be able to help with #2. To use set CPU properly you have to make sure your running a kernel that is capable of overlooking. Eugene has several kernels depending on what rom your running.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Thanks man. I thought maybe SetCPU only worked with a kernel, but wasn't sure. I also didn't know if it would work with OCLF. Now I just need to know how to configure the settings or whatever.
Anyone else got any answers for #1 or #3?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I know its possible to have the dialer on axura because I changed mine but you will just have to find it somewhere and use root explorer to apply it.
Okay...I'll look into that. Anyone else have any advice for using SetCPU?
I once was addicted to flashing but I flashed this combo:
Bionix Final R1
Core 1.2 GHZ OC kernel
This combo is like bottled lightning, everything EVERYTHING EVERYTHING goes so blindingly fast it's ridiculous...
Try it out it won't harm you. I used to flash a ROM almost every day or other day, now I'm using this until Onyx V6 drops.
You could play around with set cpu some. if your looking for better battery, then set it for conservative and the max at 800. Or if you set it for performance and the max at 1000, and the min at 400.
I have a similar question. Where do I download Eugene's overclocking kernel for JK2. Also what are the proper instructions for installing a kernel using ROM manager or clockworkmod?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
1. You might find it here.. and more/ look in the icons tab
2. i think this is covered
3. extract the dialertab.apk from Toxic. delete and replace axura's default
-this can be done before flashing.. delete axura's default dialer, then simple drag and drop of toxic dialer to replace.. save, then flash
-if ur already running axura use root explorer, copy toxic dialer to SDcared. delete axura's and replace. done
I apologize im still a noob to this. I figured out how to install jk2 using odin but i cant figure out how to install a oc kernel, can someone explain it step by syep? Thanks

Music Quality - Community Rom V1.3

I'm on the Community Rom V1.3 (flashed kernel in the v1.2 patch) and am having problems with my music quality. Any time I run anything or touch the screen while listening to music (via Pandora or my music app) the quality is poor. The music has a "popping", "skipping" or "staticy" sound.
I've attempted to flash older kernels as some have said it's an issue with Voodoo Kernel Version 8. Older kernels did not help.
I also, via Voltage Controll App, attempted to switch to CFQ and BFQ scheduler. That did not help either.
Has anyone experienced this issue? Perhaps there are other resolutions?

The typical hack, work around for latency problems is basically not slowing down whenever possible. eg, disable the minimum 100MHz state, if that is not enough then disable 200MHz also.

Are you disabling your overclock back to default 1000MHz? Or are you speeding up the phone by removing 100MHz and/or 200MHz states?

The latter. I am pulling up the "States" tab at the bottom of the home screen and unchecking (or removing) the 100MHz, 200MHz, etc. boxes.

Ok there's one more thing you can try improving latency response, but make sure you are already had other latency dependent parameters corrected (CFQ only, no more or less than 5 freq states being used, removing bottom 100MHz).
Install this -> https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sdincrease.it
Use it to change your cache setting to find the setting most optimal in reducing crackles and pops. Note - too little does nothing, too BIG or too HUGE can exaggerate latency problems.

I was on comm rom playing with its latency until version 1.2 then I switched to Evil Fascinate 3.51 because it was easier on my eyes. Why don't you try it? There's zero skips, crackles, pops in anything I play.
What scheduler are you running? Have you tried changing it?
Have you undervolted at all? Try going back to stock voltages.
As a last resort, try flashing a different kernel into your setup (such as PB&J or JTs) and see if the problem persists.

I was having the same issue, but now it's gone. Make sure you have the latest voodoo control app from the market.
There's another thread on this popping issue where the op had been in touch with supercurio and shared a partial fix, I suspect it's been updated since I last looked.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
That was my thread. It's called sound popping in the General thread. I just reverted to DL09 and OTA to EA28 and to ED03 to try to fix signal issues by esn swapping. On this stock rom, I still here popping but its not nearly as prevalent and doesn't occur when I touch the screen. Supercurio mentioned that the sound drivers were poorly implemented on Froyo kernels so it might take awhile for this to be addressed.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
I had this problem, and after tons of testing i have found that the ONLY way to fix it is by doing the full eb01 odin. Odining to eb01 gets rid of this completely. DL09 may work (i havent checked), but after doing the update.zip to ed01 it always comes back.

I have what I believe to be the latest voodoo control app but don't know how to use it to help my issue. I still hear the popping on Evil Fasication v3.5.1.
Any help here is greatly appreciated.

skindler24, did you recently experiment with CM7 from kaos or jt? I'm not sure what's going on here, but thefunkbot's post that a "full odin" fixed it for him is similar to my experience (although I reverted to di01 to initiate an OTA update, not a full EB01 as shared by thefunkbot). Check out zacisblack's thread in Fascinate General for more details.
Perhaps some developer here with more knowledge than I could consider why an issue like this that seems to affect multiple kernels and roms might be (inadvertently) eradicated by a repartitioning / full odin reflash.
good luck with it...

[Q] Music stutter when scrolling

I have noticed that whenever I scroll, my music player starts to sutter. I'm running Community Rom v3, but I noticed that it happenes with other roms too. I don't know if it's some type of bug or what? It's really anoying, it never happened on my OG Droid, Dinc, or any other device.
It gets really anoying, I can't scroll or the music will be stutter like bad signal on FM Radio. Clicking the screen doesn't really affect it, so it's gotta be some type of bug. Does anyone else have this issue? Do you guys have any ideas?
Thanks for any help.
I had this issue on the comm rom. Haven't had it on CM7.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
So, could it be TouchWiz related?
It's an issue with the Froyo kernel. It will happen on all Roms that use a Froyo kernel. Some have said that repartitioning their phone using Odin alleviated the problem.
I have a thread on this in the general section here.
Ive had this issue after having voodoo control load the latest kernel module. Yhe way I fix it is to odin the full DL09 that adrynalyne provides in the how to get to edo1 thread. Using the atlas pit with repartition checked. I never have the problem again unless I load the kernel module again.

[Q] CallRecorder Requires Special Kernel?

Hey Everyone,
I recently upgraded my ROM to BAMF Forever v1.10. In doing so my callrecorder app by skvalex stopped functioning. Before the updated rom it seemed to work without any issues. After doing some research it seems this may simply need a new kernel or radio.
Does anyone know what radio would allow call recorder to function? It has to be compatible with BAMF Forever v1.10, although I'm not sure if compatibility with the ROM is even something that could be an issue.
Thanks in advanced!
You'd have to sort through the threads and see if call record is supported. If its not listed, its more than likely not supported. On a side note, if you you're feeling like trying something different (and if you can find it) droidvicious put out a MIUI rom that other than no MMS is pretty functional. I say this because MIUI, or at least the MIUI I'm running, has call recording built into a tools menu that's part of the dialer. Works pretty good for me so far.
Signature.
You will need to flash a new kernel because the default BAMF kernel does not support it. I think the imoseyon sense kernel supports call recording.

Entropy's DD_03072012 Issue

First off, I apologize for posting this here. I don't have 10 posts yet, so I can't post a reply to the proper thread in the Development forum.
I recently flashed Entropy's DD_03072012 kernel, and I noticed that when I'm listening to Google Music, I can't double-click the headset's microphone button to skip tracks anymore (a single click still works to pause the music, however). I searched the thread to see if this is a known issue, but at 240+ pages, I could have missed something.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any way to fix this other than flashing back to stock?
What rom are you running, cause its specific to that.
I'm still on the stock ROM (latest OTA update). I've been rooted for several months now, and skipping tracks using this method has worked fine until I flashed the updated kernel a couple of weeks ago.

Give Siyah gingerbread kernel a try, once you get enough posts, try talking to entropy about it
That's going to be the next one I try. I just really like the battery-saving features of Entropy's. Couldn't hurt to give it a shot though.

Even better, get off gingerbread and upgrade to task 650's AOKP ICS. It's a lot better than gingerbread. Good luck regardless
EDIT: Another reason to upgrade, I'm not really sure anyone is supporting GB kernels anymore. Both Gokhanmoral and Entropy512 are dedicating a lot of time on ICS kernels

I got gb 2.3.6 unnamed rom uckh7 03/07/2012 kernel, and read there is bugs with wifi on ics/aokp and Gamecih doesn't work and gaming controllers + lots of other stuff.....
I need all that working. Anyway I noticed my wifi bars stay gray and don't go blue (like not fully connected) is this from the kernel? And all my Google products don't say I can (or am logged in) since I got it, but but I didn't think it was the kernel.

devs are slowly moving away from GB so my best suggestion would be to move on to ics based rom its got full support at the moment so any bugs at least gets attention and as a user of CM9 Id say that it is pretty stable, dare I even say Nearing RC status

You'd have to search on it but I remember from some thread that the bar color reflects your connection to Google - if your phone isn't connected to a Google account, it grays out. There's even a switch (somewhere, in some ROM I had) for "status bar reflects Google status".

I had the same problem when playing, and changing songs on any music app, I'm on DD030712012 and I have a app auto call recorder, but I couldn't use bluetooth at all, it made echoing sound and couldn't hear anything . I did 2 factory resets trying to find the problem, then started reinstalling apps through TB, and I had to freeze the auto call recorder, and now bluetooth works with no problems. Also I think there's a problem with 3rd party music players, I will be listening to the Samsung stock music player and when I push forward to the next song a 3rd party music player starts to play at the same time, I also fixed this by freezing the app.
