why do you worry about updating with kies? when you root and install a custom rom, you will get the updates before they will be available on kies

The best & easiest way for you to root your S3 is by using SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT.

If i use cf root to root my galaxy s3 i9300 will i be able to flash a custom rom? It says that the cf root was intended to be used with stock firmware in the main thread. Also how safe is it? If i follow the steps exactly as instructed what are the chances the phone will brick?
Thanks

Yes you will.
It means it is meant to be used to root a stock Rom, after that you can do what you like. Cf root is extremely safe if you follow the instructions, which are very simple. If you do that you won't brick your phone

Thanks for your quick reply. I have one more question though. Does it matter that my phone is locked and carrier branded? I always thought it had to be fully unlocked and unbranded to root and stuff. Thanks!

No, you only need to unlock if you want to use a different network, won't affect it otherwise
My question is after rooting and not changing anything else will you still be able to get the updates. I remember with the bionic I cou ld but not with the tbolt.
are you carrier branded as in US Carrier branded or something else?
If you're talking about a US Carrier branded phone, then you're in the wrong place. This is specifically for the i9300, not any other version. There are appropriate forums for your specific phone.
If you do have the i9300, then do as slaphead says. you're all set.

Oopsie daisy.... I could've sworn I read the whole thread from start to end.. Not sure how I missed that..
I think the word "carrier branded" set of red flags in my head since I was only recently reading about someone who tried to flash an i9300 rom with their sprint s3.
just wanted to make sure and not have to see another brick.

JB ... ok, ATM there is only the leaked XXLSJ for our phone.
I recommend to flash CWM in stock recovery (=> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28178105 ... Method 1), then flash XXLSJ NeatROM Lite v4.0 (=> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35066742).
Good luck !

Thnkss bro, but my question is that- if i root my phone now, then how will i update it to JB when it is available??
Bcs OTA will make my phone to lose the root access!!
Also the link i'd given, is it safe to root through it!

You would just boot into recovery and flash CWM zip file or boot into download mode and flash via ODIN.
This has already been discussed MANY MANY MANY MANY times already, there is no need for these "How do I flash" type topics no matter what version of Android is coming soon the process is same.

Iv rooted my s3 using cf root 6.4 ( not auto). Its on 4.1.1. now i know that 4.1.2 is out i really like the multi tasking feature and really want to update.
The only thing is that i want to unroot know but im not sure where to start. iv read up on this site to unroot s3 i9300 (galaxys3root) and i want to go back to stock firmware. I want everything gone also the root(supersu, cwm manager also the aptoide and stuff like that. Basically so the warranty is intact again.
the method shown is it good and is it compatible with the way i have rooted? Galaxys3root
since my phone is branded to 3 network in uk can i install unbranded firmware so the 3 start up sign goes away or shall i stick to same firmware.
Appreciate the help the people give on here. Thanx alot
Hi guys,
I have a samsung galaxy s2 and i need to root this phone. It is running ics 4.0.4. I read in the threads that rooting 4.0.4 will cause trouble.
Is there any other way to root other than downgrading to 4.0.3
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys

Flash Odin version of Siyah kernel (search for how to/which kernel you need to use). Done. Rooted phone + CWM, you can flash whatever you like/wipe till your bum gets red.

What thread/reply have you been reading because their talking crap or you have mis-read/misunderstood.
To root your device, install cwm all you need to do is flash Siyah kernel via ODIN or one of other various ways. This has already been discussed over and over again so we dont need yet another topic just to repeat everything again.
#1 rule by XDA is to search and read topics before creating them.
This has already been discussed over and over again

but what is the best gide ?

A much safer way to root our S3 is CF-Autoroot.
Once you root you'll lose the ability to OTA to download updates.

well, now I'm interested..is framaroot non safe,as it caused no harm,or is there any other reason.. i used framaroot because it wasby far the simplest solution, but if it's not safe I would use cf auto root for future 4.3 update..
thnx
Framaroot doesn't even work on latest roms.

Read the stickies first that were pointed out by rootSU first. It's in his signature.
And yes CF-Autoroot is one of the safest way if not the best way to root.
To get future updates there are various ways but the safest way is to use Odin.
But to understand it all better read the stickies first because there's no turning back once you brick your device for not learning the basics.
ok i see... no clear answer...
