Hey i was wondering if anybody else is having this problem with the wifi hotspot and usb tethering. I am running windows mobile rom with radio 2.14. I am running Mdeejay_evo sense v1.0 warm. But pretty much every android build i put on there I am unable to get the wifi hotspot or usb tethering to work. Just seeing if anybody can help. Right now I am just having to reboot the phone into WM to use the usb tethering.
well u know winmo roms have wireless tether too right?
yes im having that problem also was waiting for this thread didnt want to make one
works for me and im on mdeejay froyo hd 3.3a
The only ROM that i know of that Wi-Fi tethering is working on is Mdeejay's & Darkstone's Desire HDs ROMs.
I can confirm Hypderdroid 1.6 works too
same here...
Yea I'm on mdeejay evo 1.6 and wifi tehtering not working either. It'll connect, but I won't get any traffic.
i am experiencing the same problems with about every build. i found one build which is core droid version 1.1 that actually worked then i updated to version 1.2 and stoped working. but i still have yet to find a build in which everything works.
mad props to the devs and everybody at xda for making android on hd2 possible.
any other builds that have wifi working please let us know, thanks!!
I am using Bangsters 1.3a and after running the script he provided a link to I have no problem with WiFi tethering... honestly have not used the USB tether
I have FroyoStone Sense v3.1 and Wifi tethering works for me.
keep in mind that after you connect ur computer to ur wifi hotspot, it can take a minute or two for windows to obtain internet access through ur device.
for me, it usually takes about a minute.
I try NexusHD2-FRG83_V1.1_(Froyo 2.2.1) and its works but the internet dont work so well its on and off..

FOR WIFI TETHERING:
Renew the ip address your pc AFTER its connected to hd2 and complains about no internet connection (no traffic) You can do this by entering the command
ipconfig /renew
to start menu or cmd screen. (Don't repair wireless connection, wait till it gives up)
FOR USB TETHERING:
Normally windows vista/7 shouldn't need driver, but sometimes it does. (Mostly because of droid explorer) So when you make usb tethering, if your phone is just listed as Android Phone in your device manager. Download and install tetherxp.inf for Android Phone in device manager. Click update driver in device manager for android phone and browse to folder that contains tetherxp.inf file. (This works for vista/7 too)
Download: http://www.android.com/drivers/tetherxp.inf
I can confirm that wifi AND usb tethering works with all builds I have tried that does not give error while enabling it. But I almost always need to renew my ip. (and it automatically updates dns settings too) I think DHCP is late for many builds and ip request times out in pc.
I remember, one time I needed to disable WPA, enable then disable tethering and reenable WPA and it worked. IP renewal always works. Give feedback for your experience please. (Whether these instructions worked or not)
I made it work with nexus, desire, desire hd, desire z and evo builds. I was usually using hastarin kernels.
Thanks for your help but I kerosene getting a response that's says "No operation can be performed on local area connection while it has itsunami media disconnected."

Anyone know which wireless tether app works with the temp root? I've tried a few and a no go.
I've seen claims of barnacle working, but have yet to try it myself.

Barnacle works perfect. Thank you, and I hit your Ty button.
It can't stay connected though, since root is temp, correct?

I have Barnacle wifi tether running on my 3D with temp root. Works great, but yes it is temporary for now.
If the wireless part isn't necessary, pdanet works just fine without root.

I can temp root with no problems using my MacBook Pro and Fre3vo but no wireless tethering joy for me. Wireless Tether doesn't work at all. Barnacle gives no errors with the ad hoc connection, everything looks fine, even Snow Leopard's network diagnostics say that my internet is working fine, but no data is transmitted or received. I even tried all the tips/tricks in this thread, still no joy. Any suggestions?
PdaNet works ok with USB but is very unstable with Bluetooth.
BTW I had no problems at all with the EVO 4G either in ad hoc mode (early versions of Wireless Tether) or non ad hoc (whatever that's called, recent versions of WT).
I've tried most of the methods out there and the one in this thread has the highest success rate IMO. One important thing: check your apps and if you have "Super User" installed as an app, uninstall it first before trying the method in that thread.
Barnacle works perfectly for me under that setup.
Mike
I have the same issue. I also have a mac so it might be a mac issue. I get tether to work on my wifes shift so I know my computer works.

Found this and I am tethering now:

Thanks, the version of wireless tether mentioned in the linked post worked for me and I'm posting using it! I had tried every other version of WT on the google site, and every version of Barnacle I could find, none worked.
BTW I didn't have any error messages or have to change any settings as that page suggests, it just worked the first time.
This is the only version of WT that starts without errors for me, and I have to us WT as it can set up the softap network (Asus Transformer doesn't see ad-hoc). It sees it and connects, but can never get an IP Address.
Anyone else experience a similar issue?
How I got it running......
1. Get temp root by one of the methods in the forum
2. Download the wifi tether apk from the root/FAQ thread.
3. In the settings change profile to htc evo 4g
4. In settings apply check to box to fix HTC routing.
Wifi tether should restart and you should be in business.

Just got it working on My Coworkers 3vo. download wifi tether 3.2 from the web, then go into settings and there is a setting in the menu that says enable for htc devices, once I did that it worked like a charm.
**Note** you need temp root

You mean this version, 3.1 beta 2? I've tried all the versions out there and some work perfectly some of the time, some never work, but none work all of the time. Can't figure out what changes, it's so random. I'm using the 3.1 beta 2 version to write this, but yesterday it didn't work and tomorrow I predict it won't work. BTW every time I start this version I get an error/warning message that some necessary thingamajigs aren't there, but I dismiss the message and it works anyway.
And of course I know I have to re-root after every restart etc.
works sporactically
Both Barnacle Wifi Tether and Andriod Wifi Tether work sporadically for me. It worked a few days ago and now it doesn't work.
is 4g tether working? I could not get it to work using barnacle
Barnacle works perfect for me with 4G...I haven't had one problem with it...
Supposedly, a beta version of "Wireless Tether for Root Users" worked so long as you checked a box in the settings that was specific to HTC devices. I forget where there.
Anyone tried the new PdaNet Tablet app with their Nook and connected via andorid phone?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pdanet.tablet2
Have not tried PDAnet, but I did get Wifi tethering working with no problem. Ran on my phone, Nook Tablet picked it up and ran flawlessly.
I used Android Wifi Tether (google it, will be first search term) on google code. Its free, so you can't go wrong. I am using a Droid 2 rooted with stock rom, if that makes any difference.
PDA_Net
Using version 3.25 that I installed from PC to Samsung Fascinate(Verizon). Foxfi sets up WiFi hotspot on phone. Data speed is good and poor at times, more to do with Verizon than app. Only problem I have is my phone wants to setup hotspot account with carrier(everytime), fix by reboot. Power hungry on phone side. Will have to try this newer version.

What's interesting is that PdaNet just released version 3.5 for the phone that has a new WiFi connection method. I thought I might be able to use the 3.5 version on the phone side and this new tablet version on the Nook side.
It looks like the version 3.5 phone side creates an ad-hoc hotspot which the Nook Tablet can't see.
I run cm7 on my phone as well as my NT. I tether the NT on a daily basis from the phone using portable hotspot.

You also need Foxfi app on phone. Once you setup foxfi you will see that network on Nook tablet wifi settings. Not sure what PDAnet tablet will do for you, Nook tablet already has wifi.
New 3.50 version didn't work well on my Fascinate phone, went back to 3.25

I'm trying to get this to work with my D2 as well but the connection will immediately disconnect as quickly it connects.
For Device Profile are you using, Auto, Generic, Droid 2 or something else?

A200 ICS and EVO 4G Honeycomb (rooted)
Thanks to all who donate so much time making these wonderful tools.
Here's how I got my own Acer A200 Iconia tablet running ICS to connect through my EVO 4G (Sprint) running honeycomb (2.3.5) on 4/20/2012.
Your mileage may vary. If it doesn't work for you, don't email me, I"m no expert.
Root the EVO (HTC UNLOCK / AMON Ra / SuperUser etc ... )
No need to root the tablet
Install FoxFi on the EVO (I'm using version 1.80.5)
Download and install PDANET to your desktop machine
(I'm using 3.5 x64 for windows 7)
Set the EVO to debug mode and connect to your EVO to your desktop computer Start PDANET on the Windows computer (PdaNet pushes itself to the EVO. This little fact seemed to be missing from everything I read about it)
Disconnect the EVO from the computer.
Using your tablet wifi connection, go to the store,
download and install PDANET TABLET onto your A200 (I'm using version 2.20)
Pair your tablet to your EVO over BlueTooth
Start PDAnet on your EVO. It will start FoxFi. Turn on BlueTooth
From your EVO home page select menu/Wireless and networks/Bluetooth settings
Enable Discoverable
Disable Wifi on your tablet.
Enable Bluetooth on your tablet.
Start PdaNet on your tablet
connect to your EVO
Surf the web.
Hope this works for all of you.

Hi All.
I can't get the Wi-Fi hotspot to work on my unlocked Evo 3D, I am on Orange UK network?
I enable it, setup the connection on my netbook and it connects, but I can't get any internet access on netbook? I have tried messing around with all the settings on the Evo 3D, and even made the hotspot unsecure to try to make it work but with no luck. I have also tried a variety of devices and they all pickup the hotspot from the Evo 3D and connect, but none of these devices connects to the internet?
Anyone else had this problem? I even tried hard resets, and even flashing the RUU_Shooter_U_HTC_Europe_1.20.401.8_Radio_10.59.9020.00_10.15.9020.06_M_release_219793_signed still no luck?

Is this the stock Rom you got with ur phone? You van try re adding the apn manually in internet settings but my cause was I needed to reflash my stock radio then it worked however you would just download WiFi tether as this works pretty much guaranteed

When I find a phone that WiFi tether doesn't work on I try downgrading the WiFi APK until I find one that works. If you search Google Code for WiFI Tether there will be 10-20 revisions. There is one down near the bottom that works well when others don't. But one thing I've noticed with the older versions is that some android devices like tablets (FIRE) will not see the Android Tether in their network.
Try Barnacle WiFi Tether it also works when WiFi Tether doesn't, sometimes. You may or may not be able to get this from market (PLAY) still so if you cant find it I will send it to you. Let me know.

I had a similar problem getting the wifi tether to work. I could get barnacle to work but connection speed was extremely slow. So now here is what worked for me. ( you need to be rooted for this)
this is the link for the wifi tether
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta11.apk&can=2&q=
Also after installation of the apk, I had to change these settings:
device profile to EVO3D
enable MSS clamping
enable Routing fix
Change preferred and alternate DNS from google's DNS to your carriers DNS
Hope this helps!
Please remember to thank those who help you
So just got the Evo the other day and love it! Coming from the Evo 4g its a big difference. Quick question though..
I'm at work and wanting to run the USB tether on my desktop (in a trailer and we don't have internet running in for another couple of weeks). I have all the drivers installed and the computer recognizes when I'm in mass storage mode or just charging, when when I switch to USB tether mode, my phone says "turning on" but nothing happens on the desktop in fact it disappears like its not connected.
Not sure what else to do here is there another driver that I need to install or what's going on?

I've never seemed to be able to use tethering that way on any device what I did was used WiFi tether (must be ics generic) or use a tethering app from the market all u need to do is install there client to ur computer and connect. U can download the client onto ur phone and then transfer to ur pc that's how i do it when I restore my pc so I can update my WiFi drivers
