I have purchased a G Tab for my folks, it came with cyanogenmod installed but this is way to complicated for them. My thought would be to go to stock and install CWM and the market. Could someone throw me some suggestions how this should be done. I had installed a rom on one of these several months ago, for my daughter, but haven't seen it sense
Thanks
Check out a website called gtablet for dummies. I've been reading up as I plan to get one of these for Christmas. This forum and that website have made my choice of a tablet simple.

Hy everybody!
is it right that CyanogenMod will no longer support/make/develop new "ROMS" for the touchpad?
i´ve read it somewhere
thanks for answers!
It looks like they are still working on it on the cyanogen website.

Yeah it looks like, read the changelog on the hp touvhpad forum on the cm7 website. There are still things being worked on.

I love when ppl say I've "read" but don't link and also don't go to the source such as cyanogen website. I believe ppl like you make threads to see if you can start a wild fire before some one says otherwise. I would submit to the MODs to delete this thread.....
do you have a direct link to the changelog i see to much information but not the right one

The problem is, you could have went to rootwiki or their site to find out and post facts. The other problem this should be in q and a not developement.
It's like me saying, I read somewhere there are free touchpads from HP but don't have proof or link.

Also think about it, if trying to avoid conflict esp since you don't have source just throw out the 'I heard this...' part and just simply ask if cm is still working on improving the touchpad =)

Working on my touchpad. Pretty fast. Can't wait for final version.

Just to make things clear, that would be your grand-uncle's former roomate.
And like all grand-uncles' former roomates, they're known to be super reliable sources!

The zombies have the free HP Badtouchs. Good news..
Your brains will be eaten, but in a different way than you think....bad news.
This is for real. For real. I read it on the interwebs so back off......
I have to use CM7 to use the XDA app. But, if webOS had a good, free forum viewing app, that'd be awesome.
If there is one, please link me to it. I would be very grateful as I haven't been able to find one.
The communities app in the HP market does what you want. You can also access the forums through precentral.

Key word in my post was free, and Communities isn't free. I can't buy apps, my parents don't see the point, so I can't get it.

In that case, pick up webos roundup from the market (it is free) and there is a forum app there for the webos forums. Hope that helps

I looked just now, and that isn't what I want at all, thanks for trying though. Which leads to the original purpose of the thread. Requesting a free forum viewing app. I'd like to be able to check XDA, Rootwiki, etc from my TP on webOS.
My problem being I have no way to purchase apps from anywhere. I don't care if it has ads or not either.
I just bookmarked the XDA website with the WebOs browser and go to xda that way.
+1 for bookmarking in WebOs. I have all the forums I visit in bookmarks, works great in the browser. I have zero issues with XDA in WebOs.

I was able to buy the app Communities.
Problem with bookmarking, is XDA would continuously reload on me, so I would keep getting logged out. Was frustrating not being able to be in webOS and properly check my forums.

right found it using Preware
Does anyone know how to and have the files for it? I made the mistake of purchasing one for my bestfriend who looking to join the army and its a piece of ****.
The majority of the apps either won't install (from amazon getjar or 1mobile) or stop working. the camera doesn't work with anything nor can any app or website find a location. I want to return it be he refuses to let me as "its a great gift" in his opinion.
I've looked online for the instruction and files but every site that I seem to find is offline.:banghead:

I'm also looking at this tablet, to go as my car stereo, but will definitely not do it if there is no root. I'd almost bet that this root and recovery work with this tablet, as well...
I just had a few buds that had no idea of the joys of rooted androids. I know some guys do it online or stores close by do the same for too much money. I personally went to qbking77's corner and figured out basic development and flashing by trial and error. I would do it for them but then they can't update the rom without me and the liability if they get mad about something. Anyway my question is what is the best way to help these greenhorns see the world they didn't know existed.

Thank You!
Much thanks! I've been itching to get my feet wet, I've gotten good at flashing (yeah yeah, I'm still a noob I know) and have been dying to find somewhere to start. Thanks both of you.
Android Development
I think it's best to get a basic understanding of the elements you're dealing with development from there.
That's what I did.
But when I tried making my own from scratch I just confused myself.
So I did some tutorials that walked me through EVERYTHING so I could understand how things worked together.

I recommend u t read xda's book, which is a light book with the basics...

I recommend you start with the Hello World tutorial. Then start with tutorials from vogella. You can always use stackoverflow and the android developer website as a resource.
That's what I did!

I would honestly save your cash, and just use XDA. It's the best and there are so many tutorials here already. Books are great, I love them. But by the time you spend money on a book and get it, there is always something new out, or an update that will need more explanation.
I myself own a lot of books pertaining to linux/android, but they have all been passed up by a newer version, etc.
If you must, get the basic oreilly books like: understanding the kernel, embedded systems, etc.
That is just my opinion.
