When changing to new ROMs, some require a 'full wipe'. What I'm wondering is when you do a full wipe in CWM, does it also wipe the external SD card? I'm never really sure if it will or not so I always take it out prior just to be safe. If I don't need to do that though that would be good
No unless you select wipe external sd card if the option is on CWM .

What is your Rom you used after you did the full wipe?
It requires time for the media scanner to scan all of your files on your external SD. It took me one time about 5 - 10 minutes until I saw my files on the file manager.

Hi
Let me be mo clear:
I used Super Wipe Full to erase everything because I was facing some problems on it.
I used a lot of rooms before.
Now I can just access CWM and when I try to install the room, it says: "no files found". I think is isnt reading the external sd.

1. Copy the Rom to internal SD.
2. Next time be very careful not to wipe your SD cards in CWM recovery

I think that you must use solid explorer to copy the rom.

Your internal and external SD should be mounted as Mass Storage on your PC, connect the ROM to the Internal SD.

Hi, I was wondering if I can flash a custom ROM into my Galaxy S2 but without SD card
it's already rooted but the problem is that in every tutorial I read here I find that I must copy the zip file of the custom ROM to the SD Card
So if there's anyway to flash this custom ROM without the SD card it would be great
Thanks.
Any tutorial you're following is probably using sdcard to mean internal storage. There's no requirement for a physical, external micro sd card.
So if I followed the tutorial and copied the zip file to the internal storage will it be okay or what ? (excuse me but I'm new to this and kinda lost)
You can link a tutorial to be sure, but unless you're formatting the internal storage (/sdcard), there's no reason it won't work. I've not seen a tutorial requiring the format of /sdcard.
yes, it will work fine.
read and reread the instructions until you are comfortable with them.

should not be a problem, just boot into standard recovery mode and flash the zip from your internal memory
As said CWM installs from SD card internal not external add on sd card .

Download your MIUI rom from the official english website
http://miuiandroid.com/
Connect your phone to PC and copy the zip file to your phone ( since you don't have an SD card you can't copy anywhere else anyway ).
Reboot to ClockworkMod Recovery and do a wipe data, wipe cache.
Go to advanced , wipe Dalvik cache , wipe battery stats.
Go back and choose install from zip from sd card , then choose "choose zip from sd card" , select your zip , confirm it once more and you're done. After its finished select reboot.
Okay thanks guys you're all awesome, I did it and its intalled just fine
I've took a backup using CWM, but now can I restore my contacts or apps ?

Apps you can only restore if you backed them up with titanium backup before flashing. Contacts, well... You should have those on your SIM card, or Google account if you used sync.
Hello guys.
I want your help! I don't know if the problem is from my card or from my recovery.
I've connected my SD-card to my computer in order to make back-up for my data(I think that was a little premonition).
After that I wanted to copy a new ROM to the card in order to flash it, but the speed was too slow. So I've enter into Recovery in order to copy there the ROM(mount the card as USB). Then, I've noticed that the speed was very low so I've decided to format the SD.
I've put into the card reader of my laptop and made a full format of the card(FAT32).
Last stap, I've inserted the card into my phone and tried to Mount as USB, but, than appeared the big error:
"Unable to write to ums lunfile(no such file or directory)!"
After that I've tried to repartion the card..but only the same message appeared.
I've to mention that my ROM(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23789395#post23789395) is working fine!

I've tried that too. No chance. I've format the card with http://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html. It can see all the partitions from SD card. On that card I had an ext4 partition(from my old HTC Desire). After that, in phone I can see the card(both Android and Recovery) but can't copy anything on it.

Try formating the card threw the sd options in SD/ storage setting. Meaning unmount the sd. Then format the sd. When its complete it should remount the sd automatically. Also you should try reflashing your recovery. Also what rom and kernel are you using??

Hello!
So, I have a "little big" problem over here.. I rooted my SGS3, so I could install new roms.. Until here, its all ok..
But then, i downloaded Android Revolution HD 2.1.0 and a script, from the same developer, to wipe stuff before flash the rom..
I've placed 2 rom zip files , 1 at the internal storage, and another at the SD card, just to make sure everything would be good. I flashed the wipe script, as the developer told to, at his thread.. And here comes the problem: The script wiped ALL the internal storage and i dont have access to the SD card via recovery.. Now my celphone is stuck at CWM or Download Mode.. i've PMed some developers and got some help, but i'm not really sure on what to do.. please help me if you can.. i need my phone back thanks!
Re root your s3 via tar file
Pc odin
That way u will get your cwm back
And take out ur sd card and place the rom zip file again in ur external sd..
And flash
I don't understand, why you don't have access to your external SD Card, is the option to flash from ext SD hidden?
(install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard)

Maybe pushing files using ADB ?
Connect phone with pc
Start adb
adb push romfile.zip /sdcard/romfile.zip
give it a try

Install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard -> nothing, only "Clockworkmod/", with a "backup/" inside.. but there is nothing inside the backup one.. D: and i'm sure the zip file is there.. i pushed it in there via PC, using the adaptor..
Oh, i also have a nandroid backup on my computer.. i made it with the SGS3 kit.. it has this files inside: " Boot(image), cache.ext4.zip, data.ext4.zip, nandroid.md5, recovery(image) and system.ext4
Are you sure, the script didn't format the extSD, too? Try to connect sdcard with adapter and copy rom file again

I'm have a bit of a problem with CWM not loading external sd card.
I have been tring various roms & have now decided to go back to stock.
I have installed the latest stock UK rom & the modem & kernel & have now rooted with tool kit, latest version.
When I go in to cwm recovery it's loading the sd card, I no there is nothing wrong with the card.
How can I fix this problem?

Nope that didn't work, rebooted after install then in to recovery - only seeing internal memory - NOT sd card
I had that problem as well. I use a 64Gb formated with ExFat. What i did was as follows.
I copied all data from the sd card to a pc. Then i formated the sd Card with Exfat again on the PC and copied all data back.
After that it was working without problems again.

I shall give this a try.
In the meantime, has anyone else got a solution or reason this happened?
Don't use exFat. It's a horribly hacked filesystem with even worse implementation under Linux (read: Android) due to it's very low acceptance.
If you want something more advanced than FAT32, use the much more sophisticated and reliable NTFS (requires an aftermarket kernel) or the Linux-native EXT4 filesystem which is also used on the internal storage.
Using Fat64 is just asking for trouble

Looks like this has got everyone stumpted.
So I tried a 32gb card & it's just the same - SD card not showing in CWM.

It's ok guys I have found out what the problem was & how to fix it - I can see my SD card with CWM now.
So i was trying to install this ROM, but it didn't work. And i accidentally wiped out my whole system and the only thing my s3 GT-i9300 can do are CWM and download mode. It got the backup on my Mac but how am I suppose to upload my backup to my phone? My Android File Transfer won't work so what should i do now??? (I am starting to get worried) It just stucked in the samsung screen
Sorry my English is not really good not so forgive me.
Upload the backup on an SD card with another device (card reader/other phone etc) and then place the card on your phone and install ZIP package from external SD. Hope this helped.
*edit* also why would you install a GT-I9505 rom on a s3 ?!??!?!

I have no clue. Probably a bad backup file. I guess you can try a couple more times (wipe cache etc every time) if it fails just install a new rom from xda dev forums (this time made for your s3!) to get your phone running.
