Does your phone need a case? Does your phone need custom ringtones?
I think these are all questions you can pretty much gather up the answer for yourself. I'm not flaming, just saying.
To answer your question, this is more of a personal preference. I usually dont like to deal with screen protectors, but I got one that came with the otterbox case and I barely notice its there until I look around the edges of the qhd screen. No bubbles, no sticky stuff, streaks, perfectly perfect.

The OG Evo had gorilla glass, too. In all honesty, I used my OG Evo for a year with heavy usage and never put a screen protector on it. In the end, I only had a couple of minor surface scratches that you could only see in direct sunlight.

No, it doesn't. But if you want scratches, fine line scrap marks from objects such as coins, keys and even fingers..dirt gets on them..then go without. It amazed me on my first 3vo it scrathed from my fingers. Was surfing, git out and had sand and wax on em. You will not even notice if you get one.
watever type of glass it is it WILL scratch!!!! I have two micro scratches that show up when sunlight or other bright light reflects just right... basically looks like cobweb effect on car's surface in sunlight... not that bad but i suppose it could get that bad. Invest in a quality screen protector and save urself the paranoia
When the 3D first came out, everybody was running around saying it was Gorilla Glass without actually verifying it first. Not that it matters so much, as its all scratchable, just some a little less than others.
I emailed HTC and they emailed me back saying that they did not believe that the 3D's were made with Corning Gorilla Glass, but that it was likely it was HTC's similarly comparable proprietary glass. You can take that however you want.
Do you "need" underwear pretty much its up to do you like it naked, I love the feel of the smooth gorilla glass. But that's me its your phone your life. Do what thou wilt with your phone

I'm not sure how different the org EVO is to the 3D, but from personal experience, the EVO 4G's screen is easily breakable (all the people I work with had EVOs and half of them had broken screens.) If the 3D is the same case, then I'd say go for it.
I personally want a screen protector even on my SGSII. It make sure no scratches ever occur.
i mean my screen protector feels no different than my original screen i just keep it on for protection

This.
It comes down to the fact you can take your chances and deal with scratches if (when) they happen, or you can shell out $20 and protect your screen from getting scratches to begin with.

A screen protector is not going to save the glass from breaking, lol. IMHO this phone does not need a screen protector unless you are constanly placing the phone in your pocket and exposing it to sharp objects. For the guy who said his finger scratched the glass, I lol'd. You must have sand paper fingers.
I bought a bunch of cheap screen protectors on ebay. They're pretty awesome...virtually invisible, and feels smooth as glass. Glad I got it. I went to the beach a few weeks ago and the sand would've scratched the hell out of my screen. I just removed the damaged protector, and put a new one on.
Yup..was always very careful with mine. One day I noticed a scratch, now this things worthless to me...wear protection.

this is an interesting topic as i'm getting an evo 3d, i currently have a HD2 and have had it for over 2 years now, never had a screen protector and i have it in my pocket with keys and coins sometimes and there is not a single blemish on the screen!
but my friend has a sensation only had it 3 weeks and has a few nasty scratches, maybe we should be questioning the qulity of the glass on recent devices?

You will get scratches if you don't use a screen protector in a year or so.
The Gorilla glass on the Evo3d is very good, but it's not perfect.
I took my protector off. No scratches after a month of heavy use. Oh, and it feels and looks SOOO much better w/o one. I guess that goes for a lot of things haha

You don't need a $20 screen protector. Even the very cheapest clear screen protectors will work just fine. But you should definitely buy one unless you enjoy risking the screen being scratched.
Never had one on my EVO and I will never have one on my E3D. My EVO screen is in perfect condition. It really depends on how well you take care of your stuff. For me its a no.
I already have the Zagg on my EVO 3D screen and platinum case on it since yesterday. I have a 4 year old who loves to play with my phone. It's a must for me and it has saved me a couple of times. I replaced mine 2x from him messing with it. When i sold it yesterday, the screen was flawless.. It's just like big Zone said, it's how well you take care of it.
I never had one on my Evo. By the end, I had dropped it a couple of times, carried it in my pocket, etc, and it came out with only minor surface scratches that could only be seen in direct sunlight. So I won't be putting on on my 3D.
ive never had a screen protector on any of my recent phones.evo 4g, arrive, nexus s and now not evo 3d. But an employee at my store somehow managed to get a decent scratch dead in the middle of his. not sure how he thinks he had it in his pocket with a lighter. and he takes care of his stuff. so it is possible
i build scaffolding in a paper mill so a screen protector is a must for me as well as a defender case. i cant tell you how many times a screen protector has saved me from scratches.
You can get great deals on ebay...like 2 dollars for 6 of them.
Of course you need them. It never hurts to have it on there, have had them on all my phones. The one i have now has a couple scratches on it....i know the protectors are weaker than the screen glass but for two dollars why not slap one on there?
I posted an email from HTC in another post about Gorilla Glass.
It's not listed on Corning's site, and HTC says that it doesn't have Gorilla Glass.
Some people say that the email is wrong, but without anyone actually saying there is GG in the phone, I'm assuming that it doesn't have it.
Dear [name],
I appreciate your interest in some of new Android devices like the HTC Sensation 4G and the HTC EVO 3D. You were wondering about the availability of Gorilla glass in either of these new Android devices. Some of our devices come with screens made out of a proprietary formula of glass and some have Gorilla glass. Unfortunately, these devices are not in the list for Gorilla glass.

I know some people will argue it, but without anyone actually saying that it does (other than some review or another forum), I don't believe it.
So yes, a screen protector is a good idea. Even if you never need it, it's cheap and it's always nice to have just in-case something does happen.
Thunderbolt had gorilla glass and it scratched super easy. I would imagine just like anything, there are different qualities to gorilla glass. For instance HTC could have cut a deal for a lesser product for cheaper money.
I normally take care of my devices, never really had an issue, except 1 time I was careless and a tape gun thing went flying out of my hand(no idea how) and the blade smacked dead on the screen of my evo. It made a little bubble on my zagg shield, but I still think it would have put a nice big scratch on the screen itself. Just for the occasional f'up, i'm going to be getting a screen protector.
I have screen protectors. The first week I had my Evo 4G I was using the Sprint screen protector. The screen got several little scratches where the screen protector doesn't cover. I bought a full cover shortly after that.
I would carry my phone in my front pocket.
IMO, No 10char

You don't know that. Most anything strong enough to scratch a full glass screen can peel off a screen cover while doing so.
I rarely use Screen protectors - but.. since i'm always an earlier adopter for the latest and greatest phones (yes, i did own and iphone4 at one point) friends and family always take it away from me and mess around. I'll keep a cheap protector on it for a couple months then remove it - and go naked.

$20? I really must start selling screen protectors to you if you are willing to pay that! They only cost about 20 cents in bulk, so some of these sellers have quite a markup! That said, I do think some of the places like Steinheil have a premium product.
Let me ask you this, have you ever seen an iPhone with a scratched screen? Those have gorilla glass too. It does scratch.
I have a clarvue screen protector on right now. Even though I take good care of my phone, a screen protector is cheap insurance. You can't even tell it is on.

no screen protector needed. You can literally take a razor to the screen and it will be fine. It takes a ton of force and something very very tough to scratch the screen. I do run a protector but not to protect but to give a matte finish which works wonders in sunlight and also makes your finger just glide across the screen. The Otter Box Defender has the perfect material screen built in for this.
I was wondering if i really need to keep my screen protecter on or is the screen hard glass thanks

Yes, it does have gorilla glass and the screen protector is just personal preference, I have one just in case...

Based on what I've seen, I believe the Evo 3D is listed on the Gorilla Glass website because the glass covering the camera is Gorilla Glass. I'm sorry were you under the misconception that the insurance only covers loss or something? Your fault category is precisely what insurance is for slick.
Mechanical or electrical failure, routine maintenance, and failure from normal wear and tear. File your replacement request within 60 days of incident.
Loss, theft, physical or liquid damage and resulting corrosion, and fire or lightning damage. File your replacement request within 60 days of incident.
The screen scratches just as easy as any phone. I had ny EVO screen scratch on me from my earrings. Forgot I had them on while talking on the phone and scratched my screen to all hell. Safe to say doesn't sound like gg to me.

I actually emailed HTC on this question a few weeks ago..the rep told me that neither the front screen or the back camera cover were gorilla glass..he said that they have used a glass that is comparable or better than gorilla glass.but on the corning site it shows as having gorilla glass
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/htc
No offense but most everyone knows that the reps aren't exactly the most knowledgeable of people.
If it's listed on Corning's site it must be true, they can't really lie about where their product is and isn't being used, it's bad business.
Also my phone's glass is pretty damn strong, I've dropped it on a metal seat belt and I don't have anything to show for.

Its been officially stated that the screen is GG and the camera lens protector is just plastic (albeit a strong plastic).
I dont bother with screen protectors. My Evo 4G (not GG) never had a protector for a little over a year and never had an issue. If you treat your stuff right, it should stand upto any "normal" abuse. Of course its preference.
Yeah, everyone sweats over whether it has Gorilla Glass or not, it's still just glass. Every phone now has hardened glass, they all don't scratch from metal, and they all scratch from the same sand and what not. Who cares if it's officially Gorilla Glass or not?
FYI:
EVO 4G x2. Evo# 1 never got a scratch. Evo #2 (Wifes Evo) scratched......insurance replaced without a deductible (I have no idea how that happened...lol).
EVO 3D's NAKID as well...and will be....for me screen protectors just make the touch screen feel crappy......

Most metal is harder than any kind of glass (Except maybe gold). Specially if you have any kind of gemstone in your earrings. Gorilla glass != Indestructible.
For what it is worth:
I dropped a small hardened steel drill bit from 8 inches and it chipped my screen. (this was by accident as I had it under my work station). The chip immediately turned into a crack the moment I touched the phone. I bought a replacement digitizer to replace myself...
The outcome: The outer glass/digitizer is 1.40mm/0.055in thick. It is fairly tangible. Replacing the digitizer is a b---h, and I mean that as the LCD and digitizer cannot be accessed easily, if at all, from inside the phone.
And, my new screen got a tiny scratch from a razor blade on my work desk. I do not think this is a specialty glass. I would advise caution and possibly a case & screen protector...
i dont know about you guys but my Evo3D has DIAMOND GLASS !!! I have a pure diamond screen. **** gorilla glass !!!!
There are so many reports of broken and scratched Evo 3D screens already, why take the chance. Just search the forums, you'll find a several gouged and shattered screens here. Phone insurance doesn't cover cosmetic issues (like scratched glass), only functional issues.
Taking care of the phone helps, but accidents happen. I had 4 Evo 4G's, 3 were mint, 1 had a scratched screen, they all had screen protectors and cases from the time they came out of the box.
I'm currently using zagg screen protector on my 3vo and it doesn't really feel smooth. I wanted to know which protector ya are using to see if I might change

Im using the Zaggs smudge finger print resistant version and i like it.
im using SGP antifingerprint/antiglare
I'm using seidio ultimate screen guard. I had it on my evo 4g and liked it. I had the zagg on my 3vo at first but it was too sticky for me. The seidio screen guard is a lot smoother and goes on easily with no bubbles. I recommend it.
Boxwave crystal screen protectors
And boom goes the Shooter...
I also have the seidio but my experience with the application was far different. I guess its possible I got a bad one but there were specs on the back which became air bubbles which I can't remove. I have installed many screen protectors like this one but never had this much trouble. Unfortunately Seidio doesn't stand behind these.
On my original Evo 3D device I had a Zagg Invisibleshield on it. But, after I got a new phone I tried a screen protector simlar to the one in the ebay ad above. Although the actual screen protector I'm using now covers the entire screen, is really smooth, and came with a plastic clamshell case (that I'm not using).
The screen protector and plastic clamshell case are made by Beyond Cell.
Goodluck with whatever you choose...
had zagg no smudge protector, then switched to zagg regular. Smudge proof protector made screen look a bit cloudy to me. good luck on your search!

SGP Ultra Crystal are my favorite.
I've tried 4 different brands now, each has had it's own drawback.
Cloudy, gritty feeling, not as clear, some were "rubbery", some peeled up on the edges, one even smudged more than the glass.
In the end, I went back to just the plain screen, none were as ever as nice as the plain glass was.
I'll just have to be careful with my screen.
Just don't use the Sprint's store stock screen protector. The regular (glare) one had WAYYY too much reflection that I couldn't see anything. The non-glare one was a lot easier to read however it def. took away the quality of the screen. White seems to have rainbow crystals in them.
I'm also looking for a new screen protector now.
Why use a screen protector? I never get scratches unless i drop it.
Every screen protector ruins the screen quality more then even some small scratches and the glass on the Evo 3d is even stronger than on my Desire witch still looks great after more than a year with no protection at all.
No screenprotect is the way to go. Best feeling and experience

Because gorilla glass isn't scratch proof, its scratch resistant. I've already got a tiny chip on the face (barely noticeable) from accidentally dropping it flat on the face onto the floor at work (tile floor)

Also depends on what you do for a living, your activities, how you carry your phone, etc. I use one because my job requires me to be in the office and the field. However, others never use screen protectors on any phone and never get a scratch. I love how the screen feels without it but until I'm close to my upgrade date the protector is staying on.

$300.00? LMAO!
I paid $600.00 to tell Sprint "Give me the box and kiss my black a**, I'm not signing anything!
$50.00 for 32Gb Class 10 MicroSDHC Card I got in mail the same day.
$45.00 to have GhostArmor Installed.
$34.00 drinking at Fridays while GhostArmor Installed.
$39.00 back to Sprint because I wanted new leather case.
Subtract drinks, $734.00! da** skippy I will kick out a few $$$ for some protection!!! (But, before anyone calls me a sucker, I got $300.00 for Evo with SanDisk Class 2 32Gb!) So, $434.00, again, without drinks at Fridays but the joy of dissing Sprint!
i have used screen protectors on every, from my evo, to my ds, to point and shoots, if its got glass and its mobile, it has a protetor however i broke that with my mopho. it hat 2 almost invisible nicks on it when i bought it [off contract unblemished aside from those two nicks] for 250, with box and everything.
ive since noticed what i can best describe as swirl marks. they look like a bad orbital polish on a cars paint job. that being said its only noticable under bright light with the screen brightness down. so i just let auto brightness do its thing and i dont really notice them.
I like the anti glare ones i can't stand the shinyness and all the finger prints off the regular screen, drives me crazy, also i like the matte feel of them too.

Always a screen protector for me. Probably not necessary for me - it's usually in a dress shirt pocket, sometimes a holster.
But, once in a while, in a jeans pocket -- and all it takes is a few pieces of sand in a jeans pocket.... (Some of the harder mineral particles in sand are about all that appear to scratch Gorilla Glass)
Seidio screen protector all of the way!
I never bought a screen protector for my photon, was broke after buying it, but I don't feel the need to get one.
I usually don't like the feel of screen protectors, a lot I've tried stick too much. If I were going to buy one I'd get a Steinheil, used one on my Evo and it felt like the protector wasn't even there.
First, use a screen protector, later retracted, now, after two months - not a scratch. The main thing - the careful use!

I would believe it has Gorilla glass. My phones screen was quite touch and very resistant to scratches. I keep the phone in my cupholder while I drive (bad idea really) and with the way I drive the phone falls to the other side and back multiple times. Every time it falls on way the corner of my cupholder always slams into the screen. Never had a problem, crack, weird looking spot, or anything. Ive dropped my phone 3 or 4 times too and no damage to it. Hmm. I am a horrible person for taking care of my phone...

When it first came out, htc didn't know what type of glass was on it.
It was sad.

Same here....
Its just Funny how i never got scratches on my phone until i got a screen protector (cheap one by the way) and suddenly i started to get a bunch of small scratches .
By the way i thought Gorilla glass just makes it harder to crack the screen instead of more scratch resistant
can anybody tell me what Gorilla glass really do

LOL...The scratches are on your screen protector not on your screen....
Though the gorilla seems sturdy, i still don't feel it can within a drop from waist down to the floor (taking out of pocket and dropping is common) so i am careful. but i have no protection on screen either. I have seen scratches on cowboom which sells used 3d's and they have photos, i have seen bad scratches on 3d.
i don't believe gorilla doesn't scratch from falling on cement, sorry.

Doubt it. Sitting in my minivan my phone slipped out of my pocket onto the floor. ...along the way It hit a bracket to my cup holder and it cracked. I was shocked!
