Hi,
In between owning android devices and my HD2 I used a Blackberry for a few months. What really impressed me was the wifi calling feature. I live at the bottom of a hill so I get horrible reception in my house and with the wifi calling on the blackberry I always had bars and I never dropped a call at home. My question is (and I really looked around ALOT on this and could find nothing), is there a way to enable the HD2 to have wifi calling? Meaning, get some signal bars from my wifi? If there isn't an app for it now I'd LOVE to see one. Is it even possible?
Thanks for reading and any feedback would be cool,

bring up an old thread, i would like to know this.
me too. running android on my hd2, and would love to get tmobiles wifi calling.
or maybe a way to use wifi for google voice? instead of tmobile minutes
Hi all,
I'm planning to buy Samsung Galaxy S, but the problem that the international version is pricey so I desided to buy either vibrant from T-Mobile or Captivate from at&t. I really confused I don't know which one should I choose Captivate or T-Mobile !
Is there any major difference between the phones or they are exactly same expect the design ?
I saw that Vibrate comes preloaded with the sims 3 and avatar.
Is there any specialty in Captivate ?!
Help me

The main differences are:
• The Vibrant allows side-loading of non-market apps. The Captivate does not.
• The Vibrant has radios for T-Mobile and AT&T 3G. The Captivate has radios for AT&T 3G

you can side-load apps on the captivate, you just have to download an app for it.
and the captivate has a better build quality, full metal case.

Feels the same to me. Just different back. Plus vibrant does att 3g. Captivate just has...a fancy camera app plus I hate how the captivate has the buttons too close to the bottom of the screen

I like the look of the Captivate better but it is not pleasant to hold.
Remember, the Vibrant only has ATT 3G in areas where ATT uses the 1900Mhz Band for 3G. Many areas use only 850Mhz for ATT 3G, in that case you wouldn't get ATT 3G on your Vibrant. I say this from personal experience.
Out of the box, you can install non-Market app on the Vibrant. Can't do that on the Captivate. Check Captivate forum. I guess AT&T learn too much crap from Apple.
Another thing to consider is that AT&T has a data cap on its data plans. T-Mobile does not.
Vibrant is a LOT lighter and comes with exchangeable back covers - pink and the default one. It makes no difference if you are a guy though. But I really like the pink cover.
Also depending on where you are, T-mobile's network can be much more reliable and faster than AT&T. Especially if you are under its HSPA+ coverage.
I think it's worth pointing out that while TMo won't cut you off for using a certain amount of data, they will throttle your speed if you use more than 10 Gb a month. Also, their data plan terms (like everyone else's) are written such that they're legally able to cut you off if they wanted to for "disproportionately heavy" use, but I haven't heard of anyone experiencing that yet.
Thanks guys for your replies..
I won't use them in US ! So is the captivate going to work on my service provider 3G network or not?
Another thing I found that the captivate is cheaper than Vibrant by approximately $100 so does the differences between the two models deserve that amount ?!
You need to find out in the country you are gonna use it, what kind of frequencies they use, especially for 3G in the quad band, that will be the decision maker factor you need!!!!!
Captivate looks better, and I paid 500+ for my Vibrant...
I have both and in my opinion my Vibrant feels WAY better in my hand. Plus something about the design of the Captivate makes it feel larger then my Vibrant. I'm lucky though, in my area there is a lot of 1900mhz I guess because my Vibrant is unlocked on AT&T and I haven't even noticed a difference as far as 3G connectivity goes.
Oddest thing though, if I disable 3G data on both of them my Vibrant will stomp my Captivate in the mud. Something about it handles EDGE far better. Which can come in handy if you find yourself out in the middle of nowhere with no 3G.

You'd have to download a whole lot of torrents to get to 10GB of usage on your cell phone lol.
if u like ur fone heavier and bulkier go wit the captivate but from my experience wit the vibrant i love it, its super light and thin i would say go wit the vibrant
I picked the captivate (Im in Australia) because of the bigger internal memory (16Gb > 2Gb) and I preferred the look.
Personal preference mate. Everyone will justify their reason for choosing what they did (duh). Get a feel for both, look at the plans for both, and pick the one that suits you better......or you could always toss a coin...

This is true UNLESS, you are on a business plan, they have never throttled me, not that I go over that very often but I have tested it, and I asked one of their "business specialists" about it .....
Hi everyone, I've had my Vibrant since mid-December and I love it except I get VERY spotty reception in my house.
I know it's not a carrier issue, as my mom and friends have the same carrier (Wind Mobile) and they seem to have decent/good reception at my place. My reception drops consistently in my main floor and is non-existent in my basement.
I'm running TW Bionix V with KA7.
Is anyone aware of a hardware fix (similar to the GPS fix) that might be do-able and works?
Thanks
Have you tried flashing different modems to see if any of them make a difference?
You may also be experiencing bad reception due to the fact that the antenna is located at the bottom of the phone so our hands block it when we hold the phone in portrait orientation. Why Samsung chose to be it there is beyond me.
I know what u r going thrugh, my 2 brothers have vibrants aswell and for some ****ing reason my vibrant has significantly worss signal then their vibrant. I already tryed opening it and puting an external antenna but it only helps if the antenna is going straight ought of the phone, as soon as I try to close the cover it losses its usfulness.
I've tried different modems in the past.
KA7 so far has been the best, but that isn't saying too much.
I have actually just opened up my phone and located the 2 copper connectors at the bottom right (when my phone is turned back-up). I read in the Correct GPS Fix thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878970) that these are the cell reception connections.
I put a small piece of rubber underneath the connection and SO far it actually seems to have improved it.
I will report back throughout the day. Typically I lose reception while walking through my house so I'll see if that happens as well.
*Sigh*
I think it may have been a placebo effect. The reception is still dropping off on my phone while in the house.
Doesn't seem like bending the copper connection does very much.
I'd just try different modems. For me, KA6 < KA7 < KA5/JL5 and KB1 has been great for download speeds.
You're holding it wrong! Hold it the correct way (at the top).
Just kidding, but yeah, try different modems. KA5 and KB1 gave me the best reception. Or maybe Tmobile has poor coverage in your area.
Why dont you use wifi calling feature at home. Then you shouldnt have a problem unless you dont have internet at home.
I wish I could use wifi calling!
I'm actually in Canada using Wind Mobile (not T-Mobile), and it doesn't work unless you're on the T-Mobile network/using their SIM if I'm not mistaken.
The coverage in my area is decent (my mom and friends get steady reception, while I do not).
It seems to be specifically for my Vibrant.
I will try changing the modem to maybe KA6 (I can just flash with CW?) and see if that fixes anything.
My phone have a hardware defect when i'm holding the phone on it's bottom left.

When you say your mom and her friends have great reception, just curious, are they using Smartphone?
Because if they are using feature phone then the phone might be displaying 2g network strength oppose to 3g which your phone by default tries to get on.

They are on the same network (Wind), my mom is using a Blackberry Pearl 9100 and my friend is using a Moto XT720. Both are set to only use the WCDMA network. So it wouldn't be a problem with them on 2G.
I just find it odd, some people are reporting great reception with the phone, but my reception has been half a$$.

**** I wish I knew what makes my vibrant reception worse then other vibrants. if it is the internal antenna then I might work something out but if it is a defective motherboard then I'll be waisting my time.

I have noticed that my reception has improved when I started using a ruber/plastic case... somehow direct contact with my skin affected reception. I have an Otterbox Commuter.

Actually I have noticed this also with my otterbox. Use to get 1 or 2 bars in parts of my house now i keep 3 or 4.

The otter box lowers reception? What reception would you get with the back phone cover off?

No, actually, the other way around. I have BETTER reception with the Otterbox, as weird as it may sound.

I normally just load the modem into the internal sd card, then reboot into recovery and then install by "choose which to install> select it and say YES
That never has problems sometime CWM can hang it it is a hassle.
Also, there is a patch that allows to use wfi calling doesn't matter that carrier doesn't like it it works........

Hi everybody,
all is in the title. I'm more and more using my lovely SG S2 as mobile hotspot/heavy browsing for professional use, but in 99% of the time, I'm working in areas with VERY bad GSM coverage - 4 bars in GPRS is the best I can expect.
Pretty bad as I'm also webmaster, and need to upload/download files often... It is VERY VERY boring to be that slow, as I lose lots of time...
The main area I work in IS covered with kinda weak 3G/H signal, and can't get it inside buildings, so I'm looking for a way to connect an external GSM antenna to get the 3G signal.
I know places where I can buy a wall-mount GSM antenna (real antenna, not a cheap low-end stuff as you can get with (ie) mobile TV tuners) and mount it with full view, but I don't know if there's a way to connect it to Galaxy. I know there's a micro connector closed to the battery, but I'm not sure of the use (hard reset phone button ?).
Thanks for info !
PS : moving the mobile hotspot/phone is NOT a solution. It will only work if the phone is outside the building, ie on the roof. No way for me to work like that.
Hi, did you ever find a solution?
Hi, no, absolutely nothing.... No help, no info
Yeah, I too would like to know of any solution...
Just a thought, I've got a ov and love it, but when it cums time to upgrade I still want to use my phone, via as a remote. Is there a way to port/mod a rom to work like a tab, wifi only, and do away with 3g?.......
puff, puff,...... just send'n smoke signal's
Well, if you take out your sim card you'll have a wifi only phone... I don't understand what's the problem.
P.S. I HIGHLY suggest you to keep the verb comes as it is.
Sry dictionary input......
I was thinking more disconnecting all carrier, and network apps, and plug ins with the framework and having it only for wifi.... basically port over a tablet rom to a optimus v......
puff, puff,...... just send'n smoke signal's
you want just wifi, not include gsm, 3g, etc
Yup, that way I can use it without it constantly scanning for 3g.........
Sent from my LG-VM670 using Tapatalk 2
Enable plane mode and then enable wifi...
I don't think it will scan for networks if you don't have a sim, I'm not sure though.
Well i was thinking on the lines of a cdma phone running tablet os ported over
