Help - HTC EVO 3D

Can someone point me to a link with directions on how to use the verizon 001 prl on my 3d? I am aware of the risk but want to try it out. Thank you!

Download the PRL file and place it in the root of your SD card.
Hit ##775# from the dialer. Enter you MSL, and tap "update PRL" on your screen. Wait a few seconds for it to load. Search in SD card and use the second drop box to search only PRL files. Select the PRL file, press OK. When it takes you back to the screen where you previously hit the "update PRL" on your screen, be sure to hit the menu button and commit the modification.
It will say that your phone is going to reboot, but you may have to do it manually. Until you reboot the phone, the PRL will not change. Be sure to have a copy of the old PRL on your SD card so you can revert back easily, because you will not be able to go back to a Sprint PRL using the network since you'll be on Verizon's network only.
You said you know the risks, so I won't warn you of what could happen if you do this too much for too long.

Hah. Yeah, or you could get a REALLY expensive bill or if you're lucky just get the contract terminated.
If you want "faster" speeds, then overpay for it.
Now, to the OP: there is a thread here that gives you the DL link and instructions on how to flash it to your phone. Heed the warnings I posted about though. Do it at your own risk, gl.

Ha! I know all about it, man. I only did it once with my OG Evo and once with this phone just to test the speeds. I was back on Sprint towers 5 minutes later, though. I've been with Sprint since 1999 and I don't want to get booted over some BS.

So how were the data speeds/latency relative to your normal Sprint 3G speeds in the same location?

Significantly better on Verizon, but maybe 1-2 months ago, Sprint's 3G network by my house improved drastically and I'm sure it's just as fast or faster than big red now. However, where I work, Sprint's signal is horrible and my phone is constantly switching from roam to Sprint if I'm not on WiFi. I know I ran speed tests on both (before the improvement of the Sprint network), and I don't remember the exact results, but Verizon was 5 times faster.....at least.
I still have the 00001 PRL on my SD card. If I remember, I'll flash it and try testing both networks again tonight during off-peak hours.

Evo stuck on 1X even after changing PRL

Hi, I'm on sprint with my evo 3d and I'm stuck with only 1X. I have read the posts about the bad PRLs and I have set mine back to 21081 with no luck. I read here cricketusers.com/sprint-htc-evo-4g/9588-evo-only-doing-1xrtt-no-3g-evdo-any-ideas.html that " I took a backup using QPST of my old EVO, and loaded that on to the new one, and I'm getting pings under 100, downs around 1000 kbps, ups around 500 kbps."
Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.
get msl# type ##3282# type in your msl as your password click on edit mode click data profile hit menu and restore. then reboot. when it reboots let it do the hands free set up but cancel the prl update and firmware update. hit thanks it helps. that is what I did and it worked
hey shawnten, thanks for the reply. I have already tried that many times, but I will do it again right now and hope it helps. I actually haven't done that since I changed the prl, so I'll hope for the best. any further advice would be appreciated.
I would also like to mention that I keep getting error 67, unable to establish wireless data connection. doing hands free activation now taking forever
Still on 1x. Could someone share a qpst backup of their phone to me? Perhaps that will fix the problem like in the original post
i have the same problem any help is appreciated
This worked for me. Thanks
Seems like the 21081 prl is screwing up no, because I had the same problem earlier today. I switched to the 11115 prl and I have my 3g back but now its stuck on roaming
Turning GPS off is important!!
"FIRST, make sure you are using the stock dialer and not a third-party one as the menus will not work (as I discovered the hard way... ) Then...
Turn off your GPS. Dial ##3282#, and select Edit. Enter your MSL, then go to Data Profile. Push the menu button, then tap on Restore. Push OK to reboot. Allow the phone to go through hands-free activation, but WATCH YOUR PHONE CAREFULLY AND PRESS CANCEL WHEN IT BEGINS TO UPDATE PRL."
Compliments of CarrieK.
Tried 3 or 4 prls, followed all the steps and still 1X I believe the 4g works but I'm not in a 4g area anymore so I can't check. Anyone else...?
Try ##3282#,edit,enter msl,EVDO,preferred mode- Automatic, menu, commit modifications,ok. See if that helps.

Did you even read my post!?
I have factory reset my phone like 7 times and done all of this and still on 1x.. I know 3g works fine on my evo 4g cause I'm using it now. Dunno what the problem is... the settings on my phone are fine.. can someone post a QPST backup of theirs?
This happened to me before too. What I did was turn off the gps. Update the profile. Update the prl. Then goto the dialer and do the ##DATA#. EDIT. Enter MSL. DATA PROFILE. then MENU key RESTORE. It will confirm then restart if it doesn't restart then POWER MENU. RESTART. Wait for the Hands Free Activation to come up after the restart. Let it activate then CANCEL THE PRL UPDATE AND THE FIRMWARE UPDATE...
Hope this works for you. I've gotten stuck at 1x about 3+ times and this always worked for me.

EDIT: Seeing your previous post about those download speeds makes me think your 3g is working fine. Get the app Network Signal Info and see if that tells you your on 1x.
Why is it that nobody can read my posts? Those are not MY speeds. I have netmonitor and I know I'm on 1xrtt. My d/l speed is about 30 kb/s. I'll try doing what you posted again but I have done it at least 12 times.
another thing you can try which is one step different but may help is doing the data profile restore and and let it do the profile update then follow thw rest of the steps. that's the only thing i can think of other than it being something on sprints end, they may have to reset something.

I've seen people's phones get stuck in cdma only (1x) mode, it's just an internal setting that needs to be changed.
It was fixed with this app, however I don't think it works with the 3D:
https://market.android.com/details?...GwsMSwxLDIxMiwiY29tLmtjLm5ldHdvcmtzd2l0Y2giXQ..
I can probably look around more tonight for something that will work with the 3D, I just can't remember off the top of my head.
Edit: probably the same solution as the post above mine.
This happens to my 3d when I first started messing with my prls I followed those directions in the op of the post I liked above and never have had a problem.

I am admittedly not very well versed in cellular technologies, but I know a few things. When I click on "Select radio band" it gives me a menu with the heading "Set GSM/UTMS band". With the EVO LTE being a CDMA phone, what good would it do to change a GSM setting?
nice find....almost like a roam only hack. When I choose 800 I immediately start roaming, which at work gives me much better signal.
Hmmm...I did this, and I did get much better reception but it also immediately went to roaming. When I went into settings and forced it to use the Sprint network only...all signal was lost.
Not sure I want to force roaming all the time.
Sounds like Verizon's 800 MHz signal has better coverage in your location than Sprint's signal, and you're forcing it to roam (they have reciprocal agreements).
Definitely YMMV, but hey, it should work fine. Note that Sprint has the option of terminating you if your roaming minutes go too high.

To reverse the effects, just press the multi-task button (or redo the first steps) and choose Cellular 1900. That should put you back on Sprint's spectrum.
I'm not suggesting full-time roam, but it does help if you're ever in a low signal area on Sprint..
I immediately reversed it. It's a good trick to know if you're ever in a spotty area and need to force roaming though.

as did I but now if i roam i have no signal and just the x over the bars, anyone know if there is away to reset it to switch on its own?
Don't do this! You can't get it to automatically switch between the two after you choose one.
As a part of sprints network vision they are slowly converting their iden network (push to talk) which is on the 800mhz band to a voice band which will soon result in stronger signal and better coverage for voice. So this will be a good tweak in a few months once that is fully carried out but for now it's just going to throw you on verizon if you select 800mhz

Before trying this; if you use Google Wallet, please go RESET it now, and sync all of your data because this will reset your phone back to stock.
Now try a Reverse Logistics
1. From your phone dial pad enter ##786#
2. Select Menu from the top right corner
3. Select Reset
4. Enter your MSL code (you can call sprint to get this or root your phone and use MSL Reader)
The Phone should reboot and clear all data and system. I know you can just do a factory reset but I did the same thing and for some reason the factory reset and stock RUU did not work for me I had to do the ##786# which got rid of the X, but the data would not come back on, but since I got the phone data has been spotty, but the new PRL has fixed that somewhat.. I've bricked about 3 phones since the launch date trying things I know I had no business, but my curiosity has allowed me to find fixes for a lot of problems except for the NFC bricking problem with Wallet (SO PLEASE RESET GOOGLE WALLET BEFORE DOING THIS RESET).........
Good luck and let me know it this gets rid of the No Signal problem from manually switching frequencies.

[HOW TO] Manual PRL update

I'm writing this to try and save you guys some steps. This is a combination of things I've pieced together from several other instructions. Necessary files will be attached as best as I can, links will be provided otherwise.
This should give you 3G on verizon. I seem to get it no problem. However, I am not sure that it will be as fast as the 3G on Sprint, and it will definitely prohibit use of Sprint's LTE network, if you're one of the lucky ducks in the six cities starting up LTE soon.
if you bork your phone, I'm not responsible for that. You do this at your own risk.
things you'll need-
HTC diagnostic drivers
CDMA workshop (demo version is fine)
your MSL
a PRL to push to the device
if you're rooted, you can get your MSL by simply using MSL reader. I got mine from sprint when i was activating my phone.
you can get PRLs from this page. I chose OOOO1, because it's a verizon PRL, but your phone doesn't say roaming all the time. you need the .prl file inside of the zips, not the zips themselves.
turn on android debugging in your settings, and allow sideloading (i've read this is necessary, but i already had it on, so i cannot verify that it won't work if it's off)
Download the htc drivers folder below, and unzip to somewhere.
go into diag mode ##DIAG# on your dialer (that's ##3424#)
plug your phone into your computer (windows 7, i haven't done this on the linux side of my machine yet, so i'm not sure how it all works out there).
open up the device manager
(just start typing 'devices' in the search field, it will pop up. or type 'devices.msc' ) don't use the quotes.
you should see the phone, under 'ports' (so i've read) or modems. wherever it pops up, it should be in yellow, because we haven't installed the diagnostic driver yet!
right click on it, where ever you found it in the devices list.
choose to install/update driver. click 'browse my computer'. click 'let me pick from a list of drivers'. click 'have disk'. click 'browse'. navigate to wherever you put those htc diagnostic drivers, and select the one (64 or 32 bit) for you.
it should then be in the device list as a modem (assuming your phone is still in diagnostic mode). right click on it, select properties. figure out which port it is on (the modem tab)
open up cdma workshop. you should only have to doubleclick the executable file (cdma_workshop.exe) to open it up. this is the demo version they give away freely on their website. this is not a cracked fully functional version. but, it does what you need it to.
set the port to the one you just read out of the device manager. hit 'connect' and then 'read'.
click on the security tab. write your MSL in the field under 'SPC/user lock'. in the drop down menu there, select 'HTC method'. click the little box just to the right of your MSL field until it says 'S'. Click on the SPC button there and hit 'send'. Your phone should now be able to be accessed by CDMA workshop.
Go to the 'Other' tab in CDMA workshop. under PRL, leave it at Universal, NAM1 (I also wrote to NAM2 for some reason. I don't know enough about this to say with perfect accuracy what would be 'most appropriate'. just a warning).
click on the 'write' button. it will bring up a box for you to find and choose the PRL of your choice. hit okay. boom. written.
now, from here, i also changed the preferred radio to the 900mHz band cellular.
those instructions can be read here .
basically, that's *#*#4636#*#*, hit phone info, menu, select radio band. i also changed my preferred radio to include all the network types and switch through them automatically.
i've changed my prl, and radio type, and i'm getting 3g on verizons towers, not showing roaming (although i am roaming, it just doesn't say so because of the modified PRL)
there you go kids.
btw, i did have to reboot my computer twice to get the drivers and the phone and cdma workshop all to place nicely together.
hope that helps someone.

Yes they can, you can view the amount of roaming data used online on sprint.com
People have had their contracts terminated for roaming too much, but on the flip-side, there's people out there who have roamed constantly without a warning letter or anything from sprint. YMMV

yes, sprint knows. i don't care. honestly, if they kicked me off, it's fine with me. i move in two weeks to a part of the country that basically only covered by verizon.

Don't think Sprint charges for roaming, but I do this only because I have to. Work related.. I use the OG EVO 4G EPST.apk so I can change PRL on the fly when I need to Verizon 3G.
I'll have to double check but Sprint does throttle/limit roaming 3G to 300MB. At least that's what happened to me. Couldn't get decent Verizon 3G after I went over last month. After billing cycle I was able to get back good roaming speeds.
If you do this don't abuse it..

without an EPST.apk that will allow you to manually choose the PRL, you have to use this convoluted method to change to verizon. switching back to sprint only requires you to go into settings>updates>update PRL. it pulls it from the network.

I updated to the latest PRL and I have been having trouble acquiring 3g connection at work in Houston. It goes in and out and the data speeds are abysmal. It is very fustrating. My OG Evo was slow but not this slow here at my office. Im not a happy camper....
Have you rebooted?
at least you get some what of 3g. every time i turn 3g on i get "sprint error code 97"
i cant send texts or make calls.
i think my PRL update failed mid download and now i cant update it at all. ugh this is so annoyinggg
iv rebooted so many times. every time i go to *2 it says i have an PRL update. when i go to click it i get this..
Try turning on wifi, then turning mobile off. Then wifi off, and the mobile back on.
Mine had to try turning on a few times, but eventaully came back. Thing is, my prl didn't even update.
Still on the same one, which apparently can vary by location.
Doing the *2 will probably always tell you there is an update.
Mine came with that prl. I haven't had a issues other then Wednesday it wouldn't connect for about a half hour. I did about the reboots and it finally worked again

If you are having issues make sure you also update your profile. The option is right above "update prl"
Settings>System Updates>Update Profile
Also, try updating your PRL through the phone and not through *2 first and see if that works, then update your profile.

I live in Houston (Sugar Land) as well and yesterday I had a chance to play with this. WOW, just leaving my house and not turning WiFi off it wouldn't connect to 3G, I would get the icon everyonce in a while, but trying to get a speed test i would get connection failure every time...
So I turned off data, wifi then turned back on and it worked. I hope I don't have to do this every time... but I can tell you before this I didn't do this and noticed when I would turn my phone on after i left my house (WiFi) for the first 5 seconds or so after the screen lit up there would be no 3G icon, then it would appear and get up/down arrow traffic...
Seems something is wonky? Not sure if this update fixed or made it worse, once I was able to connect I got really good (for 3G on sprint) speeds 1.4 down and .7 up... I would do a screen shot, but forgot how? thought it was power home but that isn't working..
still love the phone though...

If you are having issues make sure you also update your profile. The option is right above "update prl"
Settings>System Updates>Update Profile
Also, try updating your PRL through the phone and not through *2 first and see if that works, then update your profile.

I got into settings but there is no "system updates" or "update profile". There was on my who 3d. Is it hidden somewhere?
I tried to update, prl stayed the same. 3g went out, until turning mobile data off, and back on.
Sure wish they'd flip the LTE switches here in their hometown. I'm roughly 2 miles from sprint headquarters..
Glad I don't see the bill, because if I did I'd stop paying it.
This seems to be a common thing this morning. I spent an hour on the phone with tech support. She told me to take the phone back, however it seems that a lot of people had this problem. Mine is back up and running with 3g.

What to
Are u running.g?
Speeds have been abysmal since about early afternoon here in VA. Speedtested and got anywhere between 90-220ish kbs, can barely stream Pandora on low quality (which means it's TERRIBLE).
Updated PRL and didn't really see any differences.
What is the new number of the prl..still 25004 here.

I had the same issue on my phone. I called Sprint and had to do a factory reset before I could re-establish a data connection. Make sure your contacts and any files you want to keep are backed up and clear out Google Wallet if you haven't already and factory reset the phone. Go through the normal activation process and you should be back up. I won't touch my PRL update again unless I absolutely have to.
The Dark One
Anybody still having this issue? I tried "all of the above" minus a factory reset withno results until I turned LTE off... so far, all is fine.
Nashville, TN btw...

I'm on Mean Rom, currently. I'm certain the setting was there on flex360s, and Fresh Rom, too. Not 100% sure about Fresh Rom, though.
I always appreciated your work on previous devices. Are you considering making a rom for the LTE?

PRL 21090 data speeds are really bad?

Has anyone else had their data speed crap out on them after updating from 21089 to 21090? After updating this morning, I'm seeing a "1x" above my data icon now and even SpeedTest is timing out. If your data is fine, are you on a custom or stock ROM?
I'm on MeanRom v4.5, s-off with HBoot 1.4.
Not in my area its actually a lot faster now

Once again, stock PRL's have no effect on data speeds when you are on the Sprint Network. Stock prl's only affect what towers your phone connects to when roaming.

I believe you but it seems like such a coincidence that my data totally crapped out immediately after I updated the PRL. And a few others in the forums were reporting the same thing.
ur right

Changing the ROM changed the PRL?

Do you have proof of this? Seems to me the prl tells the phone which towers to connect with, Sprint or otherwise. Why would they bother updating it so often, if it is just used for roaming? I seriously doubt they spend that much money on man hours just to update roaming towers.
Preferred Roaming List. Sprint phones will automatically connect to sprint towers. The PRL is only used to tell the phone what towers and frequencies to connect to when roaming.
Then explain prl 00001 that only connects to Verizon.

The PRL affects every tower the phone connects to. ON network or OFF.
The list contains data about every access point on or off network that the phone can connect too. It then has priority set for on network access points so those will be chosen over an off network access point.
Roaming two definitions
1. When a wireless device associate automatically with a different access point.
2. When a wireless device connects to another providers access point.

Because it sets the Sprint towers as the roaming towers, thus the phone thinks Verizon towers are the towers it should be normally connecting to.

YOU MIND PROVING YOUR STATEMENT?
Everyone that got the update did a profile update. SINCE THEN EVERYONE IS HAVING THE SAME SLOW DATA ISSUE! SPRINT PURPOSELY DID THIS!
Sprint's data network is crap anyway. And I highly doubt Sprint would purposefully release a PRL to limit phone's data usage.
There was a prl pushed last year that everyone got and everyone was stuck on 1x data. I think this might have been when I was on the lg Optimus s, can't really remember... But either way, I traveled quite a ways back and forth to work, data never changed from 1x. Reverted to an older prl, I got 3g back. I know prl is meant to control roaming... But I think there's more to it than that. I've seen first hand it affect more than when I roam. But I will buy that it won give anyone faster or slower speeds from the same network other than affecting HOW it connects to the network.

By that rational you prove my point. The PRL does tell the phone which towers to connect with. Which in turn could effect data speed.

What matters is we need to downgrade our PRL TO 21089

I DONT' THINK you guys are getting it. how many people in here did a PROFILE UPDATE TO GET THE PRL!? IT WAS IN THE PROFILE UPDATE THAT KILLED THE SPEED! I want to know WHAT THEY PURPOSELY DID TO SCREW WITH OUR DATA!

Use qpst or flash back to a gb Rom & change your prl then.

Well, it would appear that something is amiss here with the PRL. I am running a custom rom, and when it was loaded, it had 21089 as the PRL. Data speeds here and places I travel were acceptable. Now this past week I was on the road to a location that according to the sprint coverage maps should be "best" for the coverage, but the entire time I was there the phone only had 1X connection at what could be described as sucky speeds at best. The fact it indicated 1X would tend to tell me it was actually roaming and not actually on a Sprint network. So is it possible that due to agreements they have in place with other providers, they show coverage in areas they actually have no towers and are using other providers towers? I may be wrong, but it is my understanding that those of us who do not have the "corporate" PRL are downgraded to 1X when roaming. Now that I am back in my home area, 3g is back and everything is back to normal.
By the way, I did not do a profile or prl update, so I am not sure when or how 21090 got loaded.
I do plan on contacting the folks at Sprint and see if they have any explanation for this level of service. Do not have a lot of hope here, but can't hurt. I will post an update if they give me anything actually useful!
Have a good weekend everyone.
