Saw a few threads mentioning there are issues with Gingerbread and outlook e-mail.
Anyone know how to get it working?
I tried touchdown, it helped me sync the calendar, but not the e-mails.
Mike
Some notes:
1: I've been able to get G-mail working.
2: Calendar will sync for Exchange.
3: Tried both touchdown and Moxier Pro.
4: Able to send an e-mail.
5: Have entered appropriate APN
6: Know exchange server will work with other Android phone running Gingerbread.
I found a post on the SE site which seems to indicate a solution.
http://talk.sonyericsson.com/message/40628#40628
Tried contacting my Microsoft Exchange email server admin and he said the solution was specific to a particular setup
and that ours didn't match since we use Cisco routers.
Can anyone explain how the solution in this link is supposed to work? It seems to imply all that needs to be done is make
an adjustment in the MS Exchange server for the SE setup.
However, I don't understand enough of the explanation to understand what really needs to be done.
Mike
Found the answer.
I'm surprised no one else has run into this issue. Issue turned out to be the last thing I would have expected.
My inbox was too big! I never considered this would be an issue since I set the retrieve option for 3 days worth of my e-mail.
There's some sort of issue with the way the sync works. The guys at touch down helped me identify this problem.
Maybe this will save some other poor soul hours of investigation.
Here is a tool that was helpful for testing the active sync connection. active sync diagnostic.
I'd recommend using touchdown to because it can also be useful for tracking down why e-mail connectivity isn't working. They provide a diagnostic log. They also have a very helpful google groups community.

So I've searched all the threads, googled everything, and tried for days to get it working, but no luck.
Has anyone out there had any success with gmail and IMAP setup? I'm on a stock ROM with VZW. IMAP works fine with my work email address, and I've followed the steps from the google wiki, but no luck.
Any suggestions or help is Much appreciated!! Thank You!!
Here's the Google wiki imap info setup:
https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78886
(oh, and my specific error is "Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your email account settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again." I have of course gone through the setup numerous times double and triple checking the directions and my account info.) Thanks!
Well, after going to all of the effort to post, it looks like I have it working. I just started from scratch and created a third IMAP account for gmail with the same settings, and this time it worked!! I don't know the variable... I deleted the bad account and now all is well. Thank you to all who read and I'm lovin xda, thank you!
Well, if it makes you feel any better, I had the same problem with a Yahoo! business email account. It took several attempts using the same settings to get the emails to come through. Third time really is the charm. I know I didn't add information to the thread, but at least I know I wasn't alone with this issue
Maybe someone else can reply who knows what we may have done wrong so in the future, this won't happen.
Can you create repeating Tasks with alarms? Can you assign categories to Contacts, Appointiments, and Tasks. Can all this information sync correctly and directly with an Exchange server?
Exchange Support
My question too, my boss just got one today, and I have to set it up to sync to our exchange server. Has anyone been able to do this successfully?
Well it depends...
If you need a security certificate there might be a slight problem. You'll need to contact the admin of the exchange server and have him approve the phone. I never got that far with my sysadm - I just got a blank "no"!
So I searched for an alternative and came up with two apps that'll do the job:
-Touchdown - didn't work with my mail, but got the contacts and the calendar.
-RoadSync - works beautifully, but has issues with contacts. It's still beta and free for another month so they might come up with a fix before the full version airs.
Get'em both in Market.
Mobile-Review has an in-depth review of the Hero, and a two-part look at Android (the Hero is the first Android device in Russia).
There's bound to be some answers to what the PIM apps can do and what not.
The text translates pretty good in google translate! Take a look:

I believe that a security certificate will not be a problem for me. I have an account on a hosted exchange service, thru Sherweb, for my personal use.
Outlook 2007
I'd like to ask if it is possible to synchronize directly with Outlook 2007 (cable or bluetooth), thanks and sorry for my english
Greetings.
For the past few months, I have been trying to solve a problem with POP3 email. I have posted in the Ralph & Software sections to no avail.
The issue is how email gets sorted as it arrives. In outlook, email is properly sorted based on when it was sent to you. When using the Fuze and POP3 email however, the sort is all messed up. It sorts based on when you log in to check for messages, not when they were sent.
Take a look at the 2 pictures. One is the Outlook account and the other is the POP3 account.
You will see that they do not look the same, but they are for the same email address and both updated within a few seconds of each other. They should look the same, but they do not.
Does anyone know why this is the case? I need to use POP3 when I am not in the office and it does not really work the way it is supposed to. I have tried every imaginable ROM and the results are always the same. 6.5, 6.1 it doesn't matter. I fear that I may be forced to dump my poor beloved Ralph in favor of a BlackBerry if I cannot get this to work reliably.
I am still surprised that this does not seem to hold a larger disaffection. Perhaps not many of you use POP3 email accounts.
Thanks for any advice.
Doug M.
All my POP3 accounts get sorted by received date by default or I can change it in the TOOLS -> SORT BY menu. The pics aren't attached so I can't see what your talking about.
I am using aim mail and yahoo pop3 accounts and do not have this issue. As suggested previously, you may want to review your settings

Looks to me as though your POP3 server is timestamping the messages as you access them, not when they arrived. My POP3 mailbox looks just like your Outlook one.
Cheers,
Steve.
Sorry about the missing pics. They are now attached.
The problem for me comes in when you do not check the POP account on a regular basis. As shown in the picture, the time stamp on the POP account seems to be when I did the download; in this case 9:21 am. So all of the messages get sorted based on the same date & time. Outlook email is sorted correctly based on when it was sent.
I have tried to use Tools>Sort By, but the time stamp seems to be the problem. In the example posted, the POP emails on the list are mixed up over about 3 days but all show 9:21 am. Lower in the list are messages from today.
Any help is appreciated.

That is the strange thing. When you open the message, it has the correct "Sent" date. But when viewing the Inbox Header list, it has the wrong date. Take a look at the attached and you will see what I mean.
Thanks for the help.

I thought I just saw a cab that fixed that over in the Topaz forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4766831&postcount=1831
It's an SMS Timestamp fix but perhaps the bug also effects emails, which would make sense. The cab posted is in that link.
Problem Solved - Sort of...
Thanks for the replies. I tried the timestamp CAB to no avail. To experiement a bit I loaded a few other POP accounts from different hosting sites. They all worked fine. The problem must be with my work POP hosting account. I switched it to IMAP (which I did not know we had) and all is well.
Thanks again for the assist.

Hello guys. I got my sgs2 with stock firmware 2.3.3 two weeks ago. I was able to set up every account flawlessly except for my exchange office email. It keeps displaying 'set up could not finish/ Cannot connect to server'. All my entries are correct and my network too is good. I tried connecting on my former device, samsung vibrant, and worked flawlessly. So also on some other devices i tried. I have read in this forum several solutions and inhave tried them all. Connect through wifi , using the exchange account under 'accounts and sync ', using 'edge' only type of connevtivity , i have also updated to stock 2.3.5 and still having the same problem. I dont want to change the email apk as some did and will prefer using the stock email app (not third party app)
Please, does anyone having any idea on getting my exchange account to connect on the sgs2? I need to sync my exchange contacts, mails and calender. Will appreciate every response to solving this problem.
Thanks guys

I know you don't want to use a third party app but your problem may be on the administrator side of your account. Try the demo of Touchdown Exchange and see if that works. If it does, then you know it's a samsung problem.
Btw, there is a limit to the number of phones you can add to your email account with exchange. Each time you put on a new rom, it treats this as a new phone. Through owa or outlook, check how many mobile devices are registered to your account.
Setup for Office 365 Exchange Account (Small Business)
I just got my SGS2 today and tried setting up my Office365 Exchange account.
I ran into issues, getting a similar error message to OP.
The solution was:
1st Screen
- on the 1st setup screen, fill in username and password
- choose "Manual Setup"
- when asked what type of account, choose "Exchange Activesync"
2nd Screen
- there are 3 fields: a) Domain:user name b) Password c) Exchange Server
a) format is domain\user name (i.e. whatever.com\[email protected])
b) already filled in
c) normally, server address is m.outlook.com when using Office365. Samsung dares to be different - you need to find your actual server address, not the generic one.
Go to this address to get details for filling in these fields: http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/dd936215.aspx
Once I accepted the various activation messages, an error message flashed very briefly, but then sync was established and I synced very quickly.
I think the message was: "Cannot open connection with server due to security error", but I can't be sure
I ignored that error message, as sync seems to be working perfectly, with "push" activesync.
This was discussed on the Office 365 forum. Here's the link: http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/160/t/5282.aspx
I realise you may not have Office 365 Exchange, but I'm posting this in case it may be of help in some way.
P.S. Must say, I'm very chuffed that Samsung's native Exchange client supports Tasks and SMS sync, in addition to the standard options. SMS Sync seems faster than it was on HD2...
thanks guys. I really appreciate all the responses. I have tried out the solutions provided . I installed the touchdown app and it worked straight away. my mails, calendar, contacts & talks sync completely.
I also read through the links provided above and really never made any error initially on setting up my exchange account. Though I still followed through the steps/settings for exchange setup and still encountered the problem. one thing I like to clarify is that I am not sure if the server in my office is 'office 365' has being explained on that site. I think we use the exchange 2007. if the exchange server type is the issue, will using one if the email apk posted under themes and apps section work for me if installed? Because, I really will prefer using a stock email app. or is there any other way I can get the stock email app to work without giving me those error messages?
Also, will installing one of the custom roms get it working?
I recently solved a real pain of an email issue I was having, and wanted to pass along the experience. I had tried searching these forums for several days, but didn't quite find my problem, and didn't find the solution all in one place. With that in mind, I'm hoping this information helps someone, even if a bit of it may be covered in other threads (sorry if so).
I had upgraded recently to JB 4.1.1, and was having a lot of problems getting my corporate/exchange email account to work. The calendar and contacts would work sometimes, and the email never got past the "waiting for sync" screen. Anytime the calendar and contacts would work, they would break after a reboot of the phone.
I also found that sometimes exchange account would stick around after it stopped working, and other times it would disappear (from the Android settings > accounts list) completely. I had set the accounts up both through the stock email app, and through a third - party email app (Enhanced Email, a good app).
I tried deleting and recreating the accounts, with varying settings (port numbers, accepting all security certificates, etc.). Later on, I went to my company's online web access for Exchange, and deleted all the mobile connections so that it would create a new connection for my current phone and ROM. I recreated the account (for what seemed like the 50th time) after that. Still no good.
The thing that made the difference: I finally read a tip somewhere to force stop the (stock) email client, and clear its cache and data. After that, the email app needed to be set up again, but email synched for the first time since I installed this ROM, and my calendar and contacts work reliably. It's been several days and reboots, and no further problems have come up.
I hope this helps someone, and again, apologies if the information is duplicative. I couldn't find it all in one place, and was really beating my head against the wall trying to find a fix.

Hi there, I think im glad i found this thread although not sure it will help with my corporate mail problem. My problem exists only with contacts not syncing from my corporate exchange account. My mail and calendar is ok just no contacts sync.
You mention to force stop the stock email client, can you advise the steps and exact name of the process? Do you mean in manage apps - All - Email ? I cant seem to stop that process its all greyed out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, due to my role i really need my exchange contacts to sync.
Cheers,
Hi guys,
My experience is different.
If you have problems to sync your email you need to clear all previous mobile connections from outlook (via outlook web access) and set up your account from zero on the device.
Quick question why do you use a third party email client? Do you have Samsung device? Got the same problem and had to move to a asop (CM10)
Samsung email client and exchange doesn't work well since the original Galaxy.

solution for me
For me what solved was a solution I found in another post here in the forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774978&page=2
In summary:
"Settings --> Data Usage --> Menu --> and check Auto Sync Data
Try setting up Exchange account again and you'll see the prompt to activate a Device Administrator this time. "
