[Q] TGY firmware T9 predictive text failure - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I bought an unlocked S2 from HK. I'm in the UK.
Rooted it using CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KG2-v4.1-CWM4.tar and S2 root, then went back to official firmware using GT-I9100_I9100ZSKG2_Kernel.tar to get rid of the warning triangle.
All was going great until I downloaded AntTek App Manager and obviously somehow froze something that was required because I then got into a boot loop. :-(
Fixed that by flashing with GT-I9100_TGY_I9100ZSKG2_I9100OZSKG2_I9100XXKG1.tar however now the predictive text for the samsung keyboard does not work (but it does for the swype one.)
Other threads suggest that maybe flashing with my local CSC would fix it (I was planning on opening up and using the correct files from GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWKF3_I9100XXKE7_I9100XEUKD1.TAR)
However the thread where you find the roms states "CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either."
So now I am confused. Any ideas on how to restore predictive text for the samsung keyboard? (Or why it disappeared in the first place considering I think I used the same firmware it had originally.)
Could I just completely replace the firmware? So could I just flash the XEU KE7 firmware on my TGY KG2 phone. I wonder whether that would solve things?
Current system info:
Android version - 2.3.3
Baseband version - I9100XXKG1
Kernel version - 2.6.35.7-I1900ZSKG2-CL361136
Build number - GINGERBREAD.ZSKG2
Thanks for any clues.

Japanese on Swype

So I have flashed my phone firmware from KE1 to KE7 using Odin. However, I notice the Swype languages is missing a few languages I had back in KE1....noticeably the lack of Japanese. Before the update I really liked using japanese input for Swype rather than Simeji.
My phone is a UK unlocked version from Handtec so the CSC should be unchanged from stock ie XEUKD1.
Does anyone know what I'd need to do to get the languages back again??

the CSC for KE1 and KE7 were the same so it should be included if it was there orignally. i did just notice that the stock keyboard has the option of 30 languages but the swype keyboard only has 28. maybe on have a check if it is on your normal keyboard and not the swype one.
if all else fails:

No it doesn't show up on the Samsung keyboard either. But I did make the same observation as you that the language list under Samsung keyboard is different than that of Skype.
I suspect that the first batch of SG2 (which I got) had a different Swype language library. And during KE7 updates the library is updated and now it is gone.
My current Swype version is: 2.70.75.22981.22983.663.OXX
I wonder if the OXX text in the back designate a language library?

[Q] Few questions before firmware upgrade

Hi guys,
I just bought a Galaxy S2 and I want to flash a newer firmware.
The firmware I intend to flash (XXKG1) comes with PDA, MODEM and CSC.
Is it possible to flash just it's PDA part? Would there be any implications on that?
Why would I want that? Because the original firmware (Brazil - VIVO carrier) I could find only came with the PDA part. So if I flash CSC or MODEM, there is no way back.
The CSC is different from mine. Would that be a problem?
Thanks in advance
AFAIK the CSC is installed into the system partition, so even when you only flash the PDA part you're going to loose your current CSC setup.
However, if the FW comes as seperate .tar files you can just flash the PDA one, yes.
You can take care of a "way back" if you first install CF-Root for example and then do a backup from recovery mode.
Restoring that back gets you pretty close to "nothing ever happened" - it doesn't backup the moden though, only system and data.
Uhmm... weird, even on ODIN you have a separate button for the CSC.
What are the consequences of changing the CSC?

As the above poster mentioned It really depends how the firmware is packaged
Intratech's firmware are packed in one TAR ( Pda/phone/csc ) is just one zip, which you put in the PDA section and it flashes all three of them within
If you get three seperate files then you put them in their corressponding order of ODIN
In this instance you can choose to keep your current CSC and not flash that one.
Although I am not sure if It has any effect between 2.3.3 and 2.3.4
Just to clarify CSC subject:
I live in Kazakhstan. My present setup (from *#1234#)
PDA: I9100XEKE2
Phone: I9100XXKDJ
CSC: I9100XEKE1
believe all available official samsung firmwares are issued do exist for different region(i.e. Kazakhstan is not included)
How safe is it to flash the 2.3.4 firmware now (KG2) ?
What can I possibly loose using the KG2 firmware from Samsung ? As u understand phone language is not a problem for me.....so wonder anything else I omit ?
Thanks for help
Sorry to bump in....
Hello, I am relatively new to forums, only discovered it since I got my galaxy s2, which was a month ago.
Anyways I have similar questions, and I read a bunch of topic which only made me even more confused about what to do, and didn't want to make a new thread so I bumped in here
If inappropriate, please ignore me.
Anyways, Ive got:
PDA: I9100XWKE1
PHONE: I9100XWKE1
CSC: I9100OJVKE1
It is an stock firmware, and I guess a ROM...
I want to update to 2.3.4 but waiting seems not to be a better side of me so I decided to do it manually.
My question is with what should I update with?
As far as I understand, latest official firmwares can be found in the Intratech's post ( the XXKG2 one ).
But I am worried about the CSC part, and how will it affect my phone?
As far as I understand CSC carries localization of a sort, for some network configuration, but my provider sends config messages, and only language I use in phone is English.
Will random CSC part affect me?
Can I even update from my current firmware to the latest one? or do I need to update to other one first?
Will update wipe my data? ( it seems no as far as I understood from guide )
Will the phone be full "stock" ( basically like I bought it with that firmware), and will I be able to update on later time with KIES ?
What kinda of problems (if any) might I expect with upgrading this way? ( if presumably I do everything as I should, i.e. as per guides )
Once again, I apologize for bumping this thread, and I thank you for any help you provide.

[Q] Firmware upgrade and debranding but keeping the Croatian language ?

Hi guys, i'm reading the forum for days but still didn't find few answers that i need.
OK, first some input data, i have a Croatian T-mobile branded phone and i have rooted it the next day i got it with Odin and S2 Root method and put original stock kernel back (to avoid yellow triangle).
(By the way, when i check *#7465625# it says that phone is not locked but i have tried the unlock aplication for finding the unlock code and application did find it but it doesn't work when i put another sim card and try to unlock it)
After two weeks i upgraded it over kies to newer version and rooted it again.
Now i have the following situation:
Android Version 2.3.3
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100BOKG2-CL255512
r[email protected]#2
Baseband: BOKG1
PDA: I9100BOKG2
PHONE: I9100BOKG1
CSC: I9100CROKF1
My question are:
1 - Can i debrand and unlock the phone with some firmware or some way but at the same time keep Croatian language in menus, swype, ... etc.
2 - If i upgrade to XXKG6 or XXKG3 firmware will i lose Croatian language ?
Overall what i want is debranded, unlocked phone with latest gingerbrad 2.3.4 but with Croatian language in menus, keyboard letters, swype... etc like i have now.
Is it possible and how ?
Thanks in advance !

You require a rom with Croatian CSC or a stock rom and separate CSC
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
jje
OK, so for example i can take stock firmware XXKG6
and after just flash multi CSC containing Croatian language ?
I presume that inside the stock firmware is also KG6 modem update ?
Thx
Yes thats included .
jje
Any idea where can i find latest multi CSC containing Croatian or just Croatian CSC ?
Or maybe is there a way to extract current one from the phone and use it ?
You need rooted phone plus an app like file explorer or super manager .
Go to system copy off CSC folder CSC files text CSC version text and SW configuration xml .
After upgrade delete the same files as above and just paste the saved files back into system .
You might find a CSC here or even multi CSC.
Stock Roms .and csc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
jje
I saved them for later if i decite to do it that way.
I have downloaded I9100XXKG6 pack from samfirmware and it containes 5 files:
CODE_I9100XXKG6_CL425236_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKG6.tar.md5
KERNEL_I9100XXKG6_CL425236_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
MODEM_I9100XXKG6_REV_02_CL1044543.tar.md5
u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit
So the first file is firmware, second is CSC languages wich doesnt have croatian (i think OXXKG6 contains croatian but i cant find it anywhere), thirdf is kernel and the fourth is modem, i have no idea what is fifth file.
So, (correct me please if i'm wrong) i was thinking to do it like this
- first - flash XXKG6 firmware, and XXKG6 modem
- second - flash unsecure version of XXKG6 kernel
- third - root the phone
- third - flash original XXKG6 kernel to avoid yellow triangle.
The main question is will my current CSC (CROKF1) work with this written above ?

[Q] Is my phone standard?

Hi
I've been jailbreaking iphones since they came out but have switched to android now so I'm a noob again!
I bought a new S2 on ebay (sealed) but I'm not sure it's standard UK, I've attached 2 screen grabs.
Could someone please tell me if my phone is rooted? (the [email protected] is what got me thinking)
In case attachments don't work:
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKH1-CL431225 [email protected] #2
Also:
PDA: I9100XWKH1
PHONE: I9100XXKG5
CSC: I9100XEUKH1
And is it possible for me to ugrade to ICS?
I've tried researching here and other websites. Odin is clearly the way to go and I see lots of XXK** and other 5 digit codes which i guess are region/Firmware specific but mine don't seem to match any of these??
Any help much appreciated.
Pretty standard stuff. XEU stands for UK Unbranded. Firmware is an old one though. Follow links in my signature to proceed. ICS has been released though we are still waiting for a unbranded UK version. Enjoy.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Dell is the name of the system on which this kernel was made. It is currently not rooted.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Yeah, Linux formats things as "username"@"computer". Samsung just compile their kernels logged in as root.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
I looks like you have a standard build.
If you really want to check whether your phone is rooted or not, try downloading the "superuser" app from the market (sorry, "Google Play").
If your phone isn't rooted, it'll tell you.

yes its standard
as u see the CSC :I9100XEUKH1
see the bold letters
and as for as phone root is concr'nd ur phone is not rooted from the company
but u have to do it on ur own risk
as for as ICS rom is concerened u can if u root ur phone with a custom rom of ur choice
for more details about custom ICS roms mail me @ ( [email protected])
Thanks for the info. think I'll just wait for unbranded UK ICS to be released.

I have been reading in various places that XEU is a Polish version, is that correct? I'm a bit confused as to whether I have UK or Polish version - should be looking at XEUKH1 or XEUKH1 ??
Thanks

For the CSC part, you should be looking at I9100 XEU KH1; U+K is just a mere coincidence.
XEU is the code of the operator or the code of the "unbranded operator" - in my case I use "TPH" which is the unbranded csc for Portugal.
As for the token KH1:
K stands for the year - 2011 (ICS builds are from 2012 so they're L??)
H stands for the month - 11 or Nov (ICS builds have now been following this, though - e.g. LPQ, LP3, ...)
1 is an incremental number for multiple builds in the same month (also, sometimes letters are used)
Thanks.
So with these in mind for my phone:
PDA: I9100XWKH1
PHONE: I9100XXKG5
CSC: I9100XEUKH1
PDA - shows I am using Android version 2.3.4
PHONE - shows I have a phone designed to be used in the UK (XXKG5)??
CSC - shows I have an unbranded european phone??
Is that correct?
So if I upgrade my firmware to a stock UK one then all that would change above is PDA??
But if I upgraded to the Polish version of ICS how would that affect what *#1234#?
corype use
As far as i understand, installing any stock version minded for an EU phone should be the same. All they change is the language, however english should be present always.
I've got the same ROM images, and although I believe the XEU ICS has been released by Sammy yesterday, I'm (still) getting the "Your device does not support firmware upgrade" message from KIES.
I've done a hard reset of the phone, re-installed KIES with the latest version ( repeated on two PCs )...
Is there something funny about these ROM images?
Bought from Phones4U as an O2 Upgrade.
If I have to zap it using Odin, is there a way to save the existing ROM images?

SHW-M250K swap to international firmware?

Hi sorry if this has already been covered but I have a friend who has the korean version s2 currently on 2.3.5 but wants to run unbranded international version of 4.0.4 on it mainly to get past the 90 character sms limit build in, among other things. I attempted to flash the latest unbranded version of 4.0.4 but odin crashes right as it is finishing flashing the factory image. I am back into download mode now, I assume the problem is the korean firmware? ie I can only flash a korean version of ics? is this correct?
Thanks for any help
Dont worry everyone sorted it myself, bit more reading and found out I needed an additional pit file. working fine now.
