I messed with my phone and want to completely restore everything so it's nice and clean..
I have the official XWKI4 firmware (with the new bootloader) and just want to know if I flash with the KH3 pit file and repartition is this going to be OK?
no, that's the worst thing you can do. No partition! No pit! Just PDA.
Whats so bad about repartitioning it?

Just a quick question about the PIT file. im not to savy about what it exactly is, from what i can tell it is the system file and atm all the current EU firmwares use EXT4.PIT.
Does this mean i never have to update the PIT file as long as the firmware uses EXT4.PIT?
im going to update my s2 to I9100XEKE1 later and when i flash it in odin i also put in the PIT file what would it do?
thanks

hope i dont get told off for bumping ^^ getting close to home time and was hoping to find out beforei get home.

Per the instructions in the thread, DO NOT TOUCH PIT FILE.
thank you for the responce pulser, i will leave the .PIT alone when i flash. Its like one of them things your told not to touch so you wanna touch it or at least learn more about it.
i'll just read more about it, but wont touch it. thanks again

A PIT file is just instructions explaining the partition layout. You must always use a PIT file matching the current partition layout (i.e. the orignal PIT file used to partition the device) unless you are repartitioning. If you are repartitioning then every you must re-download everything (PDA, CSC, MODEM, etc.). You also need to ensure the PIT file is compatible with what you are downloading. Some PIT files might use partitions too small, for example, for the firmware you are downloading.
Yep. Pit is just a layout of the drive, nothing more or less. If you reflash the same pit, you've done nothing. Its a partition which comes after the PBL and helps it locate a bootable SBL.
Question please regard PIT
Hope this is not too much of a thread drift but may relate potentially to the PIT file.
I think I may have unwittingly changed the PIT file when using ODIN.
I definitely placed a PIT file in the PIT window.....doh
Would this cause my WiFi to not work? I have tried a number of ROMs and they all work fine apart from the WiFi, which is always off and then shows error when you click to switch it on.
If this is the case that the PIT file has corrupted this, how should I go back and correct it?
Cheers
Okay guys, i need your help. My half witted brother has tried to root his phone with CF-root, but i think hes used the worng kernel as it wont boot now, it will only go into download mode which makes me think cf-root failed. Now hes trying to flash litening ROM but it fails on factoryfs.img on ODIN. Any ideas/suggestions what to do next?
Cheers

Pull the battery and reinsert after 30 seconds.Go into recovery mode and wipe cache, dalvik cache and data/factory reset.Power down and go into download mode and try to flash a stock rom or Lightningpro with odin. Try another usb-port than the one you used before and see if IDCOM lights up yellow and the phone is added in MESSAGE. If so flash it and reboot
Find your carriers stock firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928 Flash via ODIN (DONT TICK RE-PARTITION) & then download\flash the correct root for phone.
Thats the thing it wont boot into recovery so i cant wipe, im going to go round in abit and have a look so ill give the rest a try when i get there.

No flash the kernel or stockrom, not both. Place the stock rom in PDA and flash.
Only things ticked are Autoreboot and F.Reset Time. Don`t use a pit file.
Good luck
I've had similar problems before and simply reflashing a compatible kernal fixes it.

OK guys cheers for the help but i cant find his carrier ROM in there. its from Virgin UK. Would it matter if i used a different carriers say for example O2 uk?

Download any UK ROM to get the phone up and running to start with and then look for your carrier firmware later.Try XWKI4 (XEU) which is a carrier free UK firmware so will be fine for your region.Download the file, put it in PDA in Odin and hit start without selecting anything else.Dont tick re-partition.
Cheers for all the help guys really appreciated. Managed to flash LightningPro (first time) don't know why he couldn't lol. Anyway hes happy and i have a quiet life again.
Many Thanks

You use Odin right?
Volume down, home, powerbutton. Yes most probably.
Then its no harm TRY install another PDA. Rooted or not.
If it dont work, like a "boot-loop" or "kernel panic", just
"Odin" back the "old" PDA.
I have experimented hard with mix pda's, modems, and scs's,
and stumbled much, but always been able use Odin and restore.
Mixing versions as for example OXXLPB and XEOLPQ CAN make "kernel
panic", but no worry, just use Odin and restore to working
People say its allmost impossible "brick" our Galaxy S2's, so Im atleast,
are never scared to try some new stuff
Just be careful with experiement with "bootloader" in Odin. Im told that can
be scary.
Good luck, and have fun
Hey guys...
Anyone know where and what the pit file for the S3 is for Heimdall on mac os x? For XXELLA?
Thanks
Oli
whatever you're thinking of doing - don't do it, because you clearly don't know what you're doing. You'll end up with a useless piece of plastic.
What do you need the pit file for?

I need the pit file because it asks for one to flash a ROM using heimdall...
I need to use heimdall because I want to go back to XXELLA, I'm running MIUI at the moment but wanna go back to standard.
I do know what I'm doing, I'm fully capable using ODIN but never used heimdall before as I only have a mac at home.
I do know what I'm doing,
PIT files are generally on sammobile.com as part of the firmware .
Be 100% sure before using a PIT .
jje
I've just remembered, as I have my phone working again I can use Mobile ODIN, transfer the file across, PDA - then find the file and do it?
Is this correct?
In fact.
I downloaded the XXELLA zip file from sammobile
Do I put it in Kernel, recovery, system, data, cache, param, modem, hidden or ota/update zip?
Nobody?
Anyone?
I was told the only way to get my phone to be restored via Odin is to flash a "test build" of a firmware because it is the only kind that will truly fully delete everything when flashing, anyone know if this is available anywhere?
Thanks
Not that I have ever seen.
Who told you that?
I would think you should be able to use the reset option in ODIN when flashing.
What problems are you having that flashing the stock file in Odin isn't fixing?

keithross39 told me that.
I tried all the conventional ways of odin flashing to no avail, I posted detailed info here.

I would do a little research into if repartition or erase nand might help.
I think pit file is in those files so you might be able to try repartition.

I flashed pit several and checked erase nand in odin several times with no success
The not seandroid enforcing is cause of the custom recovery. I ran into something similar awhile back and it was the kernel.
