[Q] Deleted Vending.apk - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using Project-V
I had Black Market 3.0.27 installed
The market updated to 3.1.5
I tried using Ti Backup to restore 3.0.27, but then I got force closes
I used Root Explorer to delete com.vending-1.apk from data/app/
From recovery I cleared cache and dalvik
More FC's
I used adb to push vending.apk (version 2.3.6 from Project-V) then cleared cache and dalvik again.
Market is not showing up in my app drawer or Settings/Applications/Mange Applications/All
Vending.apk is in system/app
I deleted com.android.vending and com.android.vending-updater folders from data/data
Cleared cache and dalvik again, Vending.apk is still not recognized
Used adb to push Vending.apk from Black Market 3.0.27 to system/app/, then cleared cache and dalvik
Vending.apk is still not recognized
In summary:
1. Vending.apk is in system/app/ with rw,r,r permissions
2. com.vending-1.apk has been deleted from data/app/
3. the Android system does not recognize that Vending.apk is an installed application
How can I get the market back??

If you still have it in system/app them go there and Tap on it to install like a regular apk.

Tried that, it doesn't install

Uninstall the current market with Titanium Backup. Reboot. Rename the market app you want to install to Vending.apk and paste that to system/app. Make sure the permissions are rw- r-- r-- (User: read and write, Group and Other to read-only).
It should appear on your app drawer and work.

That's just it, the Android system and Ti Backup show that there is no Market app installed!! Although Vending.apk is in system/app/ with the correct permissions.

HELP
I'm having this issue, I already deleted Vending.apk with root explorer and flashed Market 3.1.5[dark version] zip file using 3-button-hold, wiped delvic, and still no go.
Force Closes after one time use.
I'm on Bonsai ver 16 + Bluebread theme

Just reflash your roms and don't delete vending.apk; it's not rocket science.

but i beleive if u had all ur user data and apps backed up with TI then it should not be a big deal reinstalling the ROM.

Oh wow, I didn't even think about your settings being saved. How inconsiderate of me. Good forbid you have to take out a little time out of your busy schedule to reconfigure your precious settings, but then again If you didn't delete the vending apk file in the first place you wouldn't be in this situation.

Did you recently suffer a loss - wife left you, dog died, etc...? Or are you always this friendly and helpful?

LMAO, Wow really? Ok, I'm done trying to help the little kids who come on here and ask for help because they're too stupid to take simple instructions to get them back up and running; and then cry about the advice you give them and get defensive.
Class Is Over................YOUR DISMISSED!!

Download a root explorer app like "Root Explorer" (obviously) or File Expert, go to the system/app folder and give it write permissions (there would be options for that). After that you can copy to that folder. After copying, reboot.

Sony backup and restore

Ok people this is a backup and restore made by sony ericsson so lets get started
Goto system folder using root explorer and edit the below entry in build.prop
From
ro.product.manufacturer= "whatever name here''
To
ro.product.manufacturer= Sony Ericsson
1: Download the backup and restore apk and put on root of sd card
2: use root exployer put the apk in system/app and set permissions to
xxo
xoo
xoo
3: then install
IF YOU GET ERROR ''CANT READ FILE'' WHILE RESTORING OR BACKUP DOWNLOAD deskclock.apk
1:using root exployer apk look for the old deskclock apk in system/app and delete it (if you rom is odex you'll need to delete desktop.odex to)
2 download deskclock.apk and put it in system/app and set permissions to
xxo
xoo
xoo
3:them install and your good to go
this apk will backup & restore market apps/phone book/messages/system settings and so on i have only tested on 2.3(GINGERBREAD)
GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN
So, this is something that will preserve our data like apps and setting and everything you mentioned in case we do factory reset for example?

Is this better than Xrecovery?
Doesnt work on ICS, the deskclock.apk is different in ICS and the given deskclock.apk does work. And without deskclock.apk, it gives file read error.
Any port available for ICS ?
It works under GingerDX v025, thanks .

How to install inverted apps?

I swear I've tried every combination to get the inverted Gmail app on our phone, but the one way that works. If you've successfully managed to get inverted Gmail on the EVO 4G LTE, how did you do it?
http://www.rujelus22.com/evo/ <-- The one I'm trying to install. Maybe there's a different one for our phone?
Since some of those apps are system apps, you'll need to download the apks and using something like Root Explorer, move them into system/app then set the correct permissions and reboot.
You can't simply click the apk and install it normally.

That worked for you? It didn't work for me.
Place it in adb folder and type adb remount and then adb push "app name.apk" /system/app and restart phone
Long way around but that should work

Tried that method before creating the thread.
Maybe it's just not meant to be for me.
Back up your non-inverted app data/ account settings. TB
Use rootexplorer to search for all occurrences of non-inverted app.
Delete /replace them with inverted app.
Reboot.
Restore Data/account settings.
Seems to me it can't help but work. The non-inverted apps are gone.
You could wipe cache and dalvik cache to force reload.

+2 Here, that is what we did as well expect for backing them up. Just deleted in titanium and rebooted. Then installed the inverted APK and reset our settings. Works perfect every time.
It turned out to be a problem with the apk file itself. That's why the tips suggested above and all the methods I tried beforehand weren't working. Go figure.

Is it ok to delete the .apk files in /data/app folder?

i'm using root explorer and found a bunch of apk files in the /data/app folder. i never downloaded any of these, i guess android automatically made copies of the original apks? now is it ok to delete these? will it affect functionality of any apps?i have currently?

Nexus 5 KitKat v4.4.x ... I deleted all APKs from /data/app and apps started crashing. I forced a reboot and stuck in animated google boot logo for 20 mins with nothing. I did the hard shutdown and into bootloader to go into recovery. I had to use nexus root toolkit v1.8.0 to reset to factory
its cause some of the apps which you installed were installed in data/app.. in your case you deleted it.. so the apps which installed in that folder wont work.. try re-flashing the rom.. thats the solution.. and i know its been a three months you posted this problem.. and now i guess you cleared that already...

[q] convert user app to system app

Hi everyone.
I'd like to know how to move some user apps stored in /data/app to /system/app, and don't get force close. I tried with link2sd, romtoolbox, rootexplorer, but always got fc.
I've deleted a lot of system apps and I want to use that unused storage for some user apps.
I hope you understand what I want to do.
Anybody can help me? :good:

Well... The best way to do that is to edit the ZIP for the ROM you want and flash the changed ZIP through CWM. If you're doing it on the phone, make sure you set the permissions to 644, after you move them.

I checked permissions under rootexplorer. I gave the same permissions as every system app has. Should I go to terminal and type chmod 644 ...?
I'll try with the modified zip. Thanks for help. I'll tell you what happens.
EDIT: I tried the 644 method. Sitill force closing.
EDIT2: With Zip modified method works with some apps. I'm still looking for a phone method with rootexplorer.
