Is this better than Xrecovery?

Doesnt work on ICS, the deskclock.apk is different in ICS and the given deskclock.apk does work. And without deskclock.apk, it gives file read error.
Any port available for ICS ?

It works under GingerDX v025, thanks .

Download a root explorer app like "Root Explorer" (obviously) or File Expert, go to the system/app folder and give it write permissions (there would be options for that). After that you can copy to that folder. After copying, reboot.

[Q] Deleted Vending.apk

I'm using Project-V
I had Black Market 3.0.27 installed
The market updated to 3.1.5
I tried using Ti Backup to restore 3.0.27, but then I got force closes
I used Root Explorer to delete com.vending-1.apk from data/app/
From recovery I cleared cache and dalvik
More FC's
I used adb to push vending.apk (version 2.3.6 from Project-V) then cleared cache and dalvik again.
Market is not showing up in my app drawer or Settings/Applications/Mange Applications/All
Vending.apk is in system/app
I deleted com.android.vending and com.android.vending-updater folders from data/data
Cleared cache and dalvik again, Vending.apk is still not recognized
Used adb to push Vending.apk from Black Market 3.0.27 to system/app/, then cleared cache and dalvik
Vending.apk is still not recognized
In summary:
1. Vending.apk is in system/app/ with rw,r,r permissions
2. com.vending-1.apk has been deleted from data/app/
3. the Android system does not recognize that Vending.apk is an installed application
How can I get the market back??
If you still have it in system/app them go there and Tap on it to install like a regular apk.

Uninstall the current market with Titanium Backup. Reboot. Rename the market app you want to install to Vending.apk and paste that to system/app. Make sure the permissions are rw- r-- r-- (User: read and write, Group and Other to read-only).
It should appear on your app drawer and work.

Oh wow, I didn't even think about your settings being saved. How inconsiderate of me. Good forbid you have to take out a little time out of your busy schedule to reconfigure your precious settings, but then again If you didn't delete the vending apk file in the first place you wouldn't be in this situation.

Try Home+Vol Down+Power to enter into Recovery>Install GApps.
no need to flash the entire gapps on your case
download the latest google play apk in the themes and apps section of optimus one
search ES file manager/explorer (forgot exact name) apk on google from your pc (legit because the app itself is free)
now move the two apks to ur phone with usb
DONT INSTALL GOOGLE PLAY
install es file manager
open root mode something like that and grant the app root permission
now copy and paste ur google play apk to /system/app
AND LONG PRESS IT, CHANGE PERMISSIONS to rw-r--r-- (as same as all other system apps in the same folder)
save permissions
reboot ur phone at this point
bam!! google play is now back there in ur app drawer
becareful next time and do backups before touching red buttons in TB next time, mate

Thank you so much Miasmic.
1. for getting my query resolved with detailed explanation
2. For getting me introduced to ES file explorer. Ive been diving into its utilities since then.
Update: For anyone trying out this solution, you shall find the option to give root permission to ES under ES settings, also make /system as mount to write.

1.playstore apk 3.5.19 i've moved it in system/app with ES File Explorer Manager
2.permissions change to rw -r -r
3.reboot
result nothing
i have Android 2.3.3 stock.
yes, the Optimus is rooted.
i didnt install Recovery.
my problems have started when i've changed the microsd card with a bigger one. i've made a copy of previous card but some native Android apps like playstore, maps, navigation just simply disappear but somehow maps and navi are back now.
later edit
until your answer i will prepare a backup if i will need to restore (factory reset).

1. Download Gapps from goo.im/gapps/.
2. Put the .zip on your SD Card.
3. Boot into recovery and clear your cache and Dalvik cache.
4. Flash the Gapps .zip and reboot.
And you're done.

Do you use link2sd or app2sd?? There is no other reason your system apps will disappear because
of changing card. First you check the permissions again.
If they are all ok and still doesnt work.. then download any gb gapps.. unzip it in your pc.
You will find two files.. MarketUpdater.apk and Vending.apk.. place it in same folder system/
app. Same permissions for both.. not sure if this works on Stock gb.
And we dont know what all files you are missing.
ok.thanks a lot now its all back.
thanks guys

Well are you rooted? You need root, and to turn on root access in the settings of ES file explorer before you can access /data/app.
/data/app is not actually in either the internal sd partition or the external sd.
I'm a motorola defy user, used google and saw this thread, I also can't install titanium backup. I dont have the .odex file on system/data/app folder.
other apps install except titanium backup
edit: follow these steps
you need to delete odex file com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup-1.odex or same from /data/app directory
now working

You need to be rooted, of course. When you open ES Explorer, press the Back button once. That'll take you to your root directory, where the system/data/app folder resides
Can't install titanium backup
To fix it, you need to remove the patch installed by Lucky Patcher.
Open Lucky Patcher. Press menu button and hit Troubleshooting, then
Uninstall Patches. This will remove all patches that were installed by
Lucky Patcher for all apps.
Now, go to Troubleshooting again, and hit Clear Dalvik Cache and
Reboot.
Now, install Titanium Backup.
Note that you have to reapply patches for all apps you had previously
patched.

Nexus 5 KitKat v4.4.x ... I deleted all APKs from /data/app and apps started crashing. I forced a reboot and stuck in animated google boot logo for 20 mins with nothing. I did the hard shutdown and into bootloader to go into recovery. I had to use nexus root toolkit v1.8.0 to reset to factory
its cause some of the apps which you installed were installed in data/app.. in your case you deleted it.. so the apps which installed in that folder wont work.. try re-flashing the rom.. thats the solution.. and i know its been a three months you posted this problem.. and now i guess you cleared that already...
