thank ya, cause i had a bunch of palm pre's before this, so i know my way around but, man, trying to overclock this thing already is a pain, lol

Umm overclocking & optimizing the Touchpad if you follow the available instructions takes about 20 easy minutes.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App

If I had to do it all over again I probably wouldn't even bother with overclocking and patching the OS. It simply doesn't make that big of a difference. It would probably if there were more apps that were more demanding. But as it is, even overclocked and patched, the browser which is my most used app still is slow. Annoying.

the steps were out dated, it took an hour for me to overclock it, but now i need to get things for it

In a week or several cyanogen mod 7 will be working.
It should come with a one click installer and dual boot. Cheapest high spec tablet out right now by a country mile.
Sent from the future to put right what once went wrong.

Lol, 1 week? dont think so.
Maybe in 3-4 weeks for a nightly version.
for a stable release, you will have to wait more

For some reason cm7 is not releasing nightlies on the touchpad, I've read that they will release it once they have a stable version

They are not waiting for a fully stable version. They are waiting to have most things working with major bugs squashed with an idiot proof installer/uninstaller...then there will be nightlies.

Very sensible, cut down on the usual 85,000 "I've bricked my device" posts.

Lets port Honeycomb

Honestly I think HTC is shorting us by not giving us 3.0 so the only reason I'm going to get this is we can port 3.0 to it. So what are the odds? How hard is going to be?
I guess they want more development time to set up Sense on Honeycomb and possibly to push it out sooner so people get this rather than Xoom...

Does the digitizer make porting Honeycomb more difficult (i.e., because it's not designed for styluses)? I'm on the fence about the Flyer, but developer support would be a huge plus.

I feel the same way although I'm 99% sure ill get it anyway. I don't see the point in 10" tablets. If I was going to carry a bulky device, I'd sooner take my laptop as its far more useful and weighs abt the same as the 10" tablets.
Have used the Galaxy Tab for a few months now and its the form factor which makes is useful to me - will fit in your pocket if you really need a free hand.
My only other concern is performance. With the majority of honeycomb tablets sporting the Tegra 2 chipset, does this mean apps will be designed with those specs in mind? Anyone know how the flyers Qualcom CPU?
Why want to port a buggy honeycomb if around 3 months later (Juni or July) there will be a official 3.0

No offense intended, but your question comes across ass a little troll-ish. Assuming you genuinely want an answer though:
1) Because apps for 3.0 are designed for tablet form-factor. If you have used any of the 2.x (or even earlier) tablets, you will know that many apps look horrible because they are either scaled up to full screen, or only appear as a 'small box' in the middle of the screen.
2) I love XDA - the Devs here are top-notch and I never have issues running early versions of the ROMs that are cooked up by XDA devs. The releases here are always way ahead of the manufacturer releases and that's kind of the whole point of the site. It lets DEVs get familiar with new platforms so that when oficial releases come out, they can be quickly ported to the 'official' build when HTC get around to releasing it.
3) Never hold your breath waiting for manufacturers to release updates. HTC are relatively quick to release updates compared to most manufacturers, but waiting for official updates can lead to pain and disappointment.
I was wondering this as well, but more in a general sense. I got an ipad from my work for winning a contest, I played with it, and I can't stand apple crap. So I'm going to sell it, looks like I can get about $450 for it on ebay. So I wanted to take that money and get a android tablet, and I was thinking I would wait for the honeycomb tabs to come out and come down in price a little. But then I thought why do that?? Especially since i'm running gingerbread on my Evo and it runs freaking awesome!
So any worries hardware or other with buying a froyo tab and rooting it and getting a honeycomb rom later? Any min specs one should look for etc..? I know it's slightly off topic sorry, but not really sure where I should post this
Thanks!!!
Do a little research next time, it WILL be released with Honeycomb. I can't post the link cause I don't have more then 8 posts, but if you google it, HTC tweeted that it will be released with 3.0.

And to top it all off the system dump can not be deodexed. I have even tried myself. The only version of 3.0 that can be ported is SDK and nothing works on it... T-Mobile will be releasing an honeycomb tab but know Google it will be locked too... And its not HTC's falt honeycomb will never meet sense. [Q] Thinking about the Touchpad, but a bit lost

I am thinking of getting a Touchpad and have started doing my research into Android roms and the processes around it. However I am getting a bit confused as to the overall steps, what is available, and how it all works.
So far I have gathered that it will end up being a dual boot. I have seen some mentioning about ClockworkMod, but then I have also seen other posts that say it has issues of some kind.
I guess I need a bit of a basic overview. How does the recovery work? Are all Roms CM7/9 based? How are they installed?
And the biggie, is it worth it? I love the specs and the price (looking at 145 for the 32gb model). But it is unsupported hardware so the question of lifespan comes up in my mind.
Thanks
Ok, I found this thread that helped a bit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305891
I am assuming the process is the same for all CM versions. However it mentions ClockworkMod as well, yet does not seem to use it. Is it even needed or is everything managed via the SDK?

You may find some value in watching a few of my Touchpad videos:
http://www.youtube.com/user/reverendkjr?feature=mhee
I explain a lot of the processes in a very easy to follow way.
That is a great tutorial! Thanks for pointing me to it.
It does clear up several questions for me. One thing I am curious about is if future updates after the first time are handled via ClockworkMod or do we have to use the computer to flash roms every time?
I still have to check out your other videos when I get home, they throttle Youtube at work . I know it is a silly question but what are your thoughts on the Touchpad in general? Is it worth the purchase?

The Touchpad is a wonderful piece of equipment. I would never have bought a tablet if I hadn't gotten this one so cheaply. Yes, future updates should be applied by ClockworkMod. I have a video on that as well. I think you will be convinced of it's awesomeness once you watch more of them. Be sure to subscribe so you get notified when I add more. I do a new video about once a week.

Can you get anymore for that price? I have Pay-Pal....
Good price for sure
If you are able to fetch it off ebay or craiglist for the cheaper prices (under $200) then go get it! You won't be able to find a ~10 incher for under $250 which has reasonable specs and does not suck.
The touchpad over all in my opinion is not bad at all. Webos will be opensourced soon by HP which means that even more work will be done on this tablet. The only major gripe with WEBOS currently is that it does not have much apps due to not being very popular, but hopefully opensourcing webos will result in some more activity.
Then comes android, specifically CM7. There are two versions out, the normal Cyanogen android OS and a "Xronified" version, which is the same as cyanogen but has lots of tweaks to get the cyanogen version running better on your tablet. Simply poo, XRON is CM7 but lots of tweaks and additions to get android going nicely on your tablet. Both versions are "alpha 3" but very usable, especially the XRON version.
One gripe about all of this is that the tablet scene is not very mature, meaning that WEBOS has barely any apps but very functional OS, while CM7/xron has many apps (all android apps) but still buggy here and there. Nothing is so bad that it is unusable, just that you might run into a bug or problem here and there, but none of it is unfix-able without checking XDA more.
Oh yeah, you can overclock this sucker to 1.5 Ghz from the stock 1.2 Ghz (I think it is 1.2) and run it fully stable. Some even got it to 1.9 Ghz, all of which gives the tablet very noticeable speed boosts.
In my situation, webos did not want to update, so I had to work with a thing called webosdoctor, and from then on I had no problems getting webos to update, overclocking it, and installing android. I just got the touchpad yesterday night, and I was able to get webos fully updated, overclocked, and set up a homebrew environment on the tablet within an hour. After that I got android on the touchpad, which took me maybe an hour too, but most of that time was spent downloading the rom (Xron is 190 MB or so), waiting for android to install on the touchpad, and realizing I did not plug in the usb cable into the touchpad all the way. It was very very easy, and no problems for me at all!
I used this guide for getting started with everything:
http://forums.webosnation.com/hp-touchpad/293028-new-touchpad-heres-your-get-started-guide.html
And then this guide for getting android onto the touchpad:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305891 <-- CM7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321335 <-- xron
I first installed CM7 and then Xron, turns out you can just use the xron thread but I did CM7 and then Xron to make it easier for me.
Good luck with deciding to get a touchpad or not, if you do, it is rather fun!
It's worth getting the TP just to have fun flashing ROMs and keeping your hobbies up to date. Having gone through the flashing scenario with Dell x51v I found myself wanting more fun through custom ROMs than the regular Ipad stock crowd. I picked up the NI Adam and loved that too but to tell you the truth the TP rocks with android and this keeps me going in terms of keeping up to date with mobile hardware/software scene. If you can get one...get one, you won't regret it.
Thank you everybody for the good guidance. I saw the MIUI rom go up the other day as well so there are plenty of options.
I have been hacking phone since my old Kyocera 6035 so this type of stuff is just fun for me. This will be my first tablet, cannot wait. Shipping is due on the 19 but my wife wont let me have it until Xmas day. You can bet it will be booting Android before we go out to visit the family
A question on overclocking: I read the thread for overclocking in WebOS but I was not sure if this had any impact on the android side of things. I am very familiar with SetCPU, are the kernels we get with the roms setup to overclock in Android?

Is all ICE and JB deployment stopped for the Flyer?
None of the roms works correctly and none is updated recently!
Whats up with that? Should i just make my flyer stock and sell it or is there still hope for it?
depends on what you're looking for out of the flyer. I personally jumped ship for the nexus 7 and couldn't be happier, although I do miss pen input a lot. everyone has just had classes start so if they are in high school or college that can also cause a slow down. the flyer isn't dead yet!

If Dexter isn't working actively anymore on the device, than sadly agree that development is pretty much dead. Hate to say such things, since if any devs are working on this device, its probably a bit of a discouragement for them to see threads talking about development being dead. But its really not looking good. Its sad to go into Development day after day, week after week, and see nothing updated or new.
Such a beautiful piece of hardware that too at dirt cheap rates and alas! no further development on this.
Long back I had an optimus one (600 mh) and sold it about a year back. It's such a small piece of hardware compared to our heavenly HTC flyer, but development on this phone is going on amazing well. It's having unofficial cm 10 as well.
Chaosz was going so well.
I wish and hope as this device will further be sold at even more reduced prices, even used ones, some interested developers might still pick up this device and.contine the development.
But for the time being it seems certainly dead.
There is still hope that Chaos and Dexter will collaborate and maybe combine the best of their ROMs, so that we could get a better JB for the Flyer, they only need some free time. So, until they are gone from this section - the development is not dead yet.

You know, these devs create ROMs for free.
Dexter is still working on JellyBean and has a version 1.7 out that's really good and works as a daily driver. Perhaps we should organise some money to say thank you?
I know a bunch got burnt donating to DG for nothing to appear, but if a rom has already been released, can't hurt to contribute to the developer to keep going.

Do You Think The X2 Will Get Much More Development?

I honestly think it's the end of X2 development, and I think it has been since CM10 A3 was released. What is your opinion?
Unfortunately, I think you're right. It has gone eerily silent around here just in the last month or two. Maybe people are getting their tax refunds back and upgrading and/or buying a new phone. My advice would be for anyone still on it, as I am, to download every ROM, tweak or mod for it that you can and save it to your computer so if you ever want to switch to another ROM, you'll have it. Pretty much I am resigned to only three ROMs: eclipse 2.3.5, cm7 and cm10. All other ones are way outdated.
Also I used to be able to post or comment, and usually within a few hours, I would get several comments or answers. I posted in the cm10 a3 thread four days ago and no one responded or posted after me.
I hope that second generation x2 owners will revive this thread because I will be on this phone till December.

I dont think unless a miracle happens and we get an unlocked bootloader and or ICS. As the ROMS get more advanced the harder development is.
i feel like what could be done with this phone has been done. there isnt really much more anyone could do. except maybe a beta cm10 . getting passed up for ics was a death sentance on this phone. i wont lie, if i had hundreds of dollars to throw at a new phone, i would. not all are this lucky though. im right there with you guys until november. until then, atleast we know that we have a few of us still here.
I definitely would port ROMs and fix them up, etc.. but this is my only phone at the moment, and I don't think Verizon would replace it if it all of a sudden became bricked from a bad port. Anyone know what they would do?
I'd say the phone is eol here on xda. Even I've come to a screeching halt on my kexec development. I don't see a future for anything unless I can convince someone I know to throw me a bone and I don't see that happening.

"Do you think the X2 will get more development?"
"No, it's 2 years old."
That's pretty straightforward. I don't agree with his mentality, but his post was perfectly clear.
It's not that the phone is 2 years old that we're not getting any more development. It's the fact that the damn thing is so locked down, we've reached the end to what it's physically possible for us to do with the device. Other devices, such as the Bionic are almost as old, but they're still going strong. (I actually haven't been following the Bionic that long, so I could be wrong. Am going to switch to one soon myself, though.)
