Rooted, unrooted and can't root again... - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

I've rooted my WiFi only Flyer and reverted to "stock" (US, Best Buy WiFi only RUU isn't available, so I chose what I thought was closest). I need to root again to get GTalk w/video to work, so I can see my daughter, who lives 2,000 miles away from me, but when I try to run revolutionary, the cmd prompt hangs at "waiting for device" and won't budge... I really need to get rooted, or I can't see my daughter. I recently lost my job, and my laptops are either busted or run windows 7 (blech) and seeing as my Photon is running 2.3.4, but can't handle GTalk w/video (awesome otherwise)... Well, I need root on my Flyer. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I would try re installing the htc drivers and see how that goes
Kris

Indeed you need to install the HTC Fastboot drivers from the Revolutionary site http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe
Activate USB-Debugging in your Flyer Settings and your Win 7 Device Manager should show Android USB Devices if connected successfully.

Hi i need to unroot my flyer i have the Wifi only 16Gig how did you unrooted yours?

Did you get your Flyer s-off and rooted? What RUU did you flash?
Not sure if this is the case but I had the same problem with a UK 3G Flyer a couple days ago.... When you ran revolutionary were you in fastboot mode? Run it again from the home screen of your Flyer, that's what I did and it went through the whole process flawlessly.

Oh man, and I'm a tard... I just noticed that my fiancée's laptop didn't have the drivers installed. Forgot that I rooted on my old work laptop originally... DER!! Gonna install drivers and try again, and sorry for the dumb question, guys...

[Q] TB running 2.10 unrooted want to go to 2.11 rooted

Ok, I had been running Das Bamf 1.7 for quite a while but having reboot issues and also I couldn't use wifi tether with my unrooted Asus Transformer since it couldn't handle an ad hoc network connection.
So, a few days ago I used the 2.07 unrooted RUU to bring my TB up to date but unroote since I figured I was going to have to start using the mobile hotspot app. Wouldn't you know, a couple days ago my Asus Transformer updateds itself with an OTA and now IT WILL accept an ad hoc connection, but now I have not wifi tether since I now have an unrooted TB (running 2.10).
I thought of using one of the leaked 2.11 packages but I see they require clockwork to run and since I'm no longer rooted I no longer have Clockwork.
I guess I've created a big dilemma here for myself and am trying to figure out the best way to get up to 2.11 AND rooted again.
Do I need to first root my unrooted 2.10 and go from there? Is there a package that I can use that doesn't require clockwork that will put upgrade me to a rooted 2.11? Any help will be sincerely appreciated.
R
I'm not the lead expert by any means, but why did you unroot to update? You have to root again to flash any package that updates to the new leak, or wait for an OTA

Ok, thanks for the info. I was hoping that there would be another way to update with a rooted file but I guess not.
It was interesting yesterday. About the same time as I asked my question, another guy posted a whine about an update messing up his TB. There were something like three or four pages of flames because of him whining, but my question (without whining), elicited only one response.
The reason that I unrooted was because my Asus Transformer could not use the wifi tether ad hoc connection. I figured I was going to have to starting using the VZW mobile hotspot. But, sure enough, a couple of days after unrooting, Asus put out an OTA update for the Transformer that now allows for an ad hoc wifi connection. Hence, my reason for wanting to return to root. Being able to connect wirelessly away is critical. I use it very seldom so I'm not wildly abusing VZW's TOS but when I need it, it is essential to have it available. I can't see the point for paying $30 a month when I only use it every three months or so and then I only use it for checking email on the road and getting news off of CNN.

[Q] Revolutionary root issue

Howdy yall, i would really like some help on this as i am stuck on rooting my 3vo. I've searched the forums a bit but didn't find my specific problem. I've run Revolutionary and it gets past the "Zerging Root" and whatnot to the point where it says "Waiting for Fastboot..." and nothing. I've read that at this stage it should be shutting my phone off and on multiple times but on my phone it just shows the bootload screen and sits there. I tried removing everything that looked like it could interfere so like i removed pda net, easy tether, and htc sync leaving only the htc driver i was told to use. It is in a USB 2.0 port, stock htc cable, on my laptop running Vista (don't hate). I've eliminated every variable i can possibly think of and i am admittedly noobish to the whole root thing (ive rooted my old htc droid eris but that was just a no brainer one button cakewalk). I was hoping to avoid a FDR/ using htcdev's halfass root exploit so any help would be very appreciated.

This was actually the third time I tried, but I'm still getting hung up at this step. My very first attempt was at my house (the only internet access is my mobile data) but revolutionary couldn't actually select a device because more than one were present, so I had to go to a friends house to do it (he has dsl).

The same happened to me using easytether then I turned off the app andbit worked like a charm

I guess I'll try uninstalling easytether next attempt, I forgot the app itself starts up on boot so perhaps that is the problem. I won't be able to try it for a while but if it doesn't work I'll come back and QQ some more

[Q] 1.4 HBOOT S-OFF cannot use revolutionary...

So. I flashed that horrid firmaware by freeza thats destroyed my devices ability to call out, text... all i can do is data, broken record right?
Whats worse is my other phones a samsung, the droid charge. I thought i was alright at first after flashing the VM firmware, but then i suddenly started receiving Error Code: 97 Class: 2 on outgoing SMS, this happens after the failed SMS send so much i couldnt look the fix up on my evo so i saw on my computer that i could call sprint and have them refresh me on their network. I also saw i could work a PRI fix.
Heres a little history before the isse: i was at 1.4 HBOOT S-OFF after following the live CD S-OFF 1.5 to 1.4 revolutionary method.
After i realized my SMS and CALL was borked i tried flashing the PG86IMG (the one you pull the power cord out the moment it begins to flash boot) to get to 1.5 HBOOT stock which is what that is by what i can tell. Unfortunatly this does nothing but put me at a 1.5 bootloader and no root.
I see that the PRI downgrade method requires root so i need to get S-ON now on 1.5 which is what i am now on
UPDATE: I fastbooted a command to S-ON and i did the brick downgrade method again and its currently flashing the 1.13 RUU. Im attempting to get recovery and then flash one of the rooted roms i have and try the PRI downgrade from there.... not quite certain why i couldnt work revolutionary earlier, im pretty sure i was 1.13 and also 1.4 HBOOT w/ S-OFF... i might never care to know why if this works. I bought this phone off ebay for 150$+rush shipping and a dock and two chichitech 1900s w/ batt charger and it rounded out to about 250$ all in all. Thats a waaaay better deal than the triumph on V-mo. Oh and the phone has a clean ESN and its mint... insane deal there, i got it put on a sprint employee plan and play 30$ a month plus tax. no 4G where i live but everyone thats not living in a shack outside a tower has the same experience so im not crying
failure...
okay so it utterly failed. not really not sure what to do i just want to get my calling and texting working again this is lame... ive rooted 4 phones now and they all happily work fine nothing like this ever happened and this is the best phone i ever had
What failed, I assume you got 1.13 loaded fine and then tried to revolutionary? If it failed to revolutionary what happened? Did you run it multiple times?
yeah i ended up switching the S-OFF to S-ON somehow on 1.4 HBOOT then i ran revolutionary straight off my laptop, there was some issue on my desktop which is vastly better in all areas but somehow got a driver issue i couldnt resolve. i havnt slept yet but im on mean 4.3 fresh now. I just used the beta key straight in rEvo not on the live disc and it worked. my laptop seems better at modding phones lol this is its 3rd of my four ive had that it just has no issues with whatsoever its a cruddy d630 too!
anyway i still have to downgrade the PRI thanks to the bloody VMfirmware i flashed before we all knew the horrors it would cause... sleep now, work on that tomorrow

Try this:

Can't use it it's for Linux users. I did a google regarding this situation others have had this issue. I went to Sprint they are going to replace it. Hopefully I'll have it by Monday it pays to have insurance. I forgot to mention this situation happened after using Lazy Panda. Definitley will not venture with that program ever again. Thanks for the replies. God bless.
Downloaded the latest RUU for Jewel, which is the LTEVO. You will find links to the RUUs here in the XDA forum. Just search for RUU. Make sure you have a full battery charge, before executing, and good luck!

It is an executable that you can run on your PC that will bring your LTEVO back to factory stock, when connected via USB. Just make sure you are fully-charged, as there is a power prerequisite check that takes place before the install. Good luck!

RUU stands for ROM Update Utility and, as mentioned above, it basically wipes your phone out and returns it to stock.

I appreciate the info unfortunatley when your phone's completely dead like with no acces to anything unresponsive I mean totally bricked this will not help. Took my phone to Sprint they couldn't get it fixed also HTC has not given them permission yet to fully have acces to their new phones. Hopefully I'll receive my new phone tomorrow or Tuesday. For now I'm back to the old ages with LG Muzic until I get my phone. I am jonesing man. LOL. Again thanks for the help.
Your phone is totally fixable. Do a little research and you will fix it. The thread is in dev
The phone is fixable I bricked my phone about 2 weeks ago. I had to run ubuntu from a live cd and go through the unbrick process. You can bring it back even with a dead battery.
similar problem

I bricked my phone trying to achieve s off on my EVO. The phone was unresponsive, wouldn't charge, and was basically a paper weight. I downloaded a copy of ubuntu burned it to a cd and ran it in live cd form and used the unbricker and got my phone to work again
Where did you get the unbricker you mentioned? I want this in my toolkit, in preparation for a release of LazyPanda that addresses hboot 1.15 from the latest OTA. Thanks!

[Q] Unclocked evo 3d

Hey all,
Long time user, first time poster. I have a bit of an issue that I'm trying to figure out. So the day before the evo 3d ICS update came out for sprint i decided to unlock the boot loader of my wife's evo 3d to remove all the crap apps that come pre-installed. Everything was a success, however, the next day, as previously mentioned, the ICS updates became available for the phone. I would really love to upgrade her phone but when i download the upgrade and try to install it i get the blue android with the yellow exclamation mark (meaning an error and won't install). I'm sure this is due to the unlocking of the phone. i tried re-locking the phone to no avail. So i'm just curious if i'm still able to do the upgrade to her phone to ICS (i'd also like to get sense 4.0). any help is much appreciated. thanks all
