Hello everybody
The new ICS update for the ROGERS EVO 3D just came out yesterday, so I restored my phone to the original firmware (via restoring the backup I did in the recovery) and then proceeded to download the OTA update. After it finished, the phone rebooted into the recovery (i have 4-ext touch recovery) and started installing. After it finished, the phone rebooted and then got stuck on the white HTC screen. I managed to enter the recovery again and restore the original firmware again. What is that I'm doing wrong here? Here is some helpful info:
Rogers EVO 3D, GSM version
Unlocked bootloader (HTCDEV method), S-ON
carrier unlocked
HBOOT 1.49.0008
OS is rooted
I'm in the same boat but I'm not able to do a recovery. I went through the update process and when the phone rebooted it got stuck on the white htc screen. I can get it into the bootloader menu but when i choose recovery it starts but then i get an error with a pic of the device and the red yield sign. If i choose factory reset it just gets stuck at the white htc. I read some other posts and I saw that having an unlocked bootloader may cause issues with updates so that may be your issue as for me, I'm not sure what I can do. I may just need the actual update file to redo the update but I'm not sure where to find it.
Same here, but I don't get half way through the ota update before I see the red triangle and exclamation mark. Phone will boot into stock recovery (which I would assume you need instead of modded recovery) and the update starts, but doesn't complete. I pull the battery and the phone boots up normally. Just can't seem to get through the update. Could be something to do with being s-off I would guess.

Same problem but whit s-off
I have been predicting that this would happen... ICS failures with non-standard HBOOTs. Good luck.
Probably will have to wait for an RUU or custom.
I'd recommend using the GB ruu to get you back to full stock. Always found Rogers ota updates (possibly all carriers?) won't install if you're rooted or using a custom recovery.
I had to install the ruu via renaming the rom.zip to PG86IMG.zip and copying it to the sd card so that the bootloader would auto flash it. Running the ruu exe tossed up all kinds of errors.
It will put everything back to Rogers stock. After that just setup wifi and do the 2 Rogers OTA updates.
Once in ICS, it's easy peasy to get recovery and root back.
Also, for what it's worth, Go Backup is awesome for going rom to rom and not needing a full backup. Use it on rooted rom, then use it to restore after rooting new rom. Will do all your apk's and everything.
1st post here after years of lurking. Yay.

Alright thanks a lot
Just an update on what I did. I was able to reload the stock gb rom for rogers using the exe file, then I went through the 2 updates that came up when checking and ics is now up and running on my phone. However in my attempts of trying to fix the original problem, I managed to re-lock my bootloader before flashing to stock rom and I had s-on the whole time. hope this help.
i switched to stock like.. a week back?
jus got ota on 4th
i WAS rooted and using juopunutbear's hboot *u can jus get the hboot from their website*
so i jus flashed back stock recovery.. and updated.. and success.. lost root though.. and i was back to stock bootloader..
used the PG86IMG with juopunutbear's bootloader and 4ext recovery.. and flashed cwm supersu.. v0.91 i think.. i dunno.. latest one.. and bam.. im on stock.. rooted.. and works perfectly..
Possible sollution
Maybe try flashing one of the customized ROMs that are based on the latest OTA update. I'm sure Anryl's newest rom is blazing-fast and stable. You can find it in the gsm android development forum and flash it via recovery. Make sure you have the latest 4ext recovery installed, though.
where can a i find that stock rogers rom i modified mine and that might be the reason i get a security failure in hboot. s is on. when i run the ruu file in windows to downgrade i get error 155. when i run the the update from about phone. it locks up with blue android guy and yellow exclamation mark. i remove the battery and she boots fine with no changes.
I am trying to do same. Get stuck on HTC screen. I have S-ON. Was on cobra 2.4 prior.
If anyone can give details on how to fix it, it would be great! Please no saying "install exe". I need to know which exe etc.
just wanted to tell everyone that in order for the ota update to work properly, you need to be running stock unrooted firmware with a locked bootloader. Just relock your bootloader, reinstall the stock firmware, upgrade to ics via ota, then re-unlock and re-root.
Hi
I have a HTC EVO 3D from Rogers that was got messed up during changing networks... rooted the phone for no apparent reason... to now get a update for it for ics from the provider and it bricked the phone.
It's stuck at HTC boot screen, can get fastboot USB from bootloader. recovery gets a ! in a triangle and factory reset doesn't work, freezes at splash screen after restarting the phone. Was stupid not making a backup or searching for programs to back it up before I went ahead and clicked update
It has HTC boot-loader 1.49 s-on but is rooted.
I am looking for clear(fix my evo for dummies) step by step instructions with correct installation for my model of phone, HTC EVO 3D Rogers GSM, or anything that could replace the os to get my phone to be useful again I'm currently using my backup phone a HTC G1 HTC ftw
Try kingcobra's rom, ota from rogers will not boot due to the fact that your phone is rooted, kingcobra's rom is based on rogers ota, flash it and leave it.

Go to the gsm development forum and download the RUU for the phone, and restore it to stock unrooted OS. Before you do that though, make sure that your phone's BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED. Look up how to re-lock your bootloader. After you relock your bootloader, you can proceed with restoring the phone.
Soooo.... basically, what I'm getting from this is, if you like having a locked bootloader, CWM and root, don't bother trying to install this OTA update because it's a headache. Agree?
The phone's not mine, it's my wife's, and she doesn't want anything special or like the idea of me messing around in her phone.
I was about to install this late last night, just about to hit that button, then I thought, "what about the bootloader? what about root? what about the fact that it's now unlocked and being used on a carrier other than Rogers?"
Folks, I need some help here. I am using my DNA with tmobile now and have never activated with Verizon. How do I get the ota update? I am rooted with a custom Rom. Many thanks!

you can do a manual install of the ota by downloading it and installing via recovery but dont quote me on that. this is my first htc device so i dnt know too much about it myself

Go to Original Development. You should find the RUU thread i believe from micromod777. Dunno your previous devices, but RUU is akin to SBF for motorola and ODIN for samsung. It is how you get released/leaked factory images onto your phone using your computer and fastboot. You can also flash the stock rom in recovery but if you are not s-off you will not be able to get the valuable(IMHO) parts which are the bootloader/radio etc . I would say your best bet to get the good stuff Is to go to original development, download the RUU to your computer, re lock your phone using fastboot oem lock in fastboot mode and a terminal on your cpu. Once you update you will have lost root. So re-unlock using superCID, re root after reinstalling your custom recovery. Now you will be updated, unlocked, and rooted. BACKUP your device.. IT WILL BE WIPED
I've got an HTC Rezound, rooted with TWRP recovery. I keep getting pestered with OTA update "ADR6425LVW_3.14.605.13-3.14.605.12", some posts say this has to do with the FCC / HTC settlement that requires HTC to patch security holes.
So - I'm not exactly sure what my options are.
1) Can I just update past the OTA notification version from TWRP so I both have the updates, and I'm no longer bothered?
2) Is this update recommended, and can it be rerooted afterward?
3) How do I take it? The closest question I could find is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2165791 for a Sprint Note 2, and it mentions an "ma7 rom", is there some equivalent for the Rezound? What are the steps that I would do to allow the update, or can I install it from TWRP / ADB?

If you are rooted on a recovery provided here, then the update will not load. Accept it and delete it or deny it. Does not matter. Pushes from OEM will not take on custom recovery.

I cannot reject it, it has been speculated that this is because of the FCC/HTC settlement. I can defer it for up to 5 days, then it keeps rebooting into TWRP, failing, and waiting, until I defer it again.
What would you recommend I do?
1) Install CM10.1
2) Install the 4.03.605.2 Leak
3) Return to stock recovery somehow and take the update?
4) ???

No - I WANT it updated, either by taking the OTA or updating it manually. Which is easier?

Not sure if it helps but I was stock + root +amon ra, and the OTA update installed just fine. I did lose root however

I'm confused as to what to do??
I'm on a custom ICS rom "OTA ICS plus" with the S-Off custom hboot and AmonRa 3.15
Amon Ra doesn't process the update and it repeatedly fails.
After rebooting, I'm back in normal mode.
Are there parts to extract (like radios and are they compatible
with the special hboot that is provided by the s-off process?)?
I tried unzipping the OTA file but WinRAR says its corrupted.

If you want the update then relocate and run the RUU for your stock rom. If you run the global RUU (aka the .2) then you will be stuck on that. Can't downgrade to a lower number without s-off. I'm sure the original (.12) stock RUU is on here somewhere. Once you run that, you will be able to take the update. Then unlock again and reroot. I use Amon ra so can't comment about twrp

Here's the link to the latest official OTA RUU:
http://androidfiles.org/ruu/?dir=Vigor
As sugarhill said, you can run that and then take the OTA up to .13 then if you like, reflash Amon Ra, superSU, busybox and custom ROM.
Same issue

Hi, this is actually my first post on here, so I have the same thing going on with my phone, and im not worried about updating it, for all im concerned it can stay the same b/c if it aint broke dont fix it. So I dont want the update. Someone had mentioned an OTA Blocker can you post what its called, i couldnt find it.
Or if theres a way to just turn off the firmware updates, cuz this one only defers for a few days. Just want it to stop bugging me!
Thanks

Factory Data Reset?
My Rezound is rooted with stock ROM, and now back to stock recovery (had CWM Recovery before). I flashed the stock recovery back on, in attempt to receive the new OTA Update. Of course it failed, probably due to removing some bloat ware and some other minor changes to the ROM.
So many have said to download the stock RUU from http://androidfiles.org/ruu/?dir=Vigor, to get everything back to stock "like new condition".
But can't I just do a "factory data reset" option in the Storage settings, to achieve this, and then maybe unrooting (if needed)?
I wouldnt do reset from in the ROM if your going to reset. why don't you just flash the ruu and take the ota? it will break root for you btw
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Thanks for your reply. I'll go ahead and run the RUU. I was just curious if the factory reset would have worked. But in your opinion what would happen if I select the factory data reset option?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
I honestly have no clue. But if your going to reset than just flash an ruu to be on the safe side and save time/anymore problems or trouble shooting. All and all just quicker and less possibal problems to deal with but that's my opinion but if you wanna do what you want than go ahead, I'm just adding in my 2 cents.

To receive the OTA update the phone needs to be 100% stock. ie locked hboot, s-on with stock recovery. you will also need to be on the non leaked global RUU firmware.
as far as we can tell, the update brought nothing new to the table, if it had it would be all over the rezound forums. if your phone is working fine and set up the way you like it, you should have no need to do the OTA. But if you would like to do it anyways, by all means go ahead. if you need help feel free to PM me or reply to this thread and i will be willing to help.
There's newer radios and I read a few small things but nothing new. Just improvements

Thank you so much guys for your input. I won't bother updating then. If it its not broke why fix it right.
I'll figure out how to suppress the persistant OTA.

OTA
Reading this:
droidforums.net/forum/htc-rezound-general-discussions/240389-weird-rezound-behavior.html#post2406637
has me worried about the update.
But I have a rooted Rezound on 4.0.3 and clockwork recovery. If I let it update, will it ruin root? Or will it just "not update" as other have said?
I can't get the phone to stop asking to update!
The update breaks root. But you can just re root it. If you can just hold off on updating and look into s-off because a dev named snuzzo posted in one of these ota threads about ripping out the new radios from the ota and making a patch with them. But you have to be s-off to use the patch and I don't know when he's releasing it but it seems to be almost finished but I could be wrong.

My homescreen is hijacked. I cannot get it to use any home launcher except the default. If I download the update it seems to let me use another launcher, but then it will keep nagging to install. So I nandroided back to before downloading the update.
I'm worried that if I disable the notifications now, I'll never get my other homescreen back!
Should I download the update and THEN disable the notifications?
Can some please list the details of installing the OTA-Global-Stock-4.05.605.14 710RD-Rooted.zip on a S-ON phone? Or any other way to avoid the OTA update from automatically trying to install and eventually aborting? I'm VERY new to the rooting terminology so please be specific. Thanks!
So nobody can help me with this?
Do I have to uproot and relock the bootloader to get the OTA, or is there another way to flash the update?
to get OTA you have to be relocked. did you check this thread yet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250494
I've read through several of the posts. They seem more relevant to S-OFF, I'm still S-ON. I've re-locked the bootloader but the OTA still stops at the bootloader screen when the phone reboots. Do I have to "flash" the OTA manually from there using a computer (i.e. fastboot flash recovery ..\OTA.zip)?
You also need to be on stock Rom with stock recovery for the ota to work
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
That's what I figured, so just go back to stock. I think I can remember to do this (I had to to it a couple of months ago when I got a warranty replacement), but if you have any advice on this it would be great. Thanks!
Are you on the global leak now? If not just run the latest ruu for ics 605.12 which you can find at shipped-roms under vigor.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Have 3.14.605.13.710RD installed.
You could run the 605.12 ruu as it has the same hboot or extract the stock recovery from that and install it, as long as your on a non modified stock Rom you should be able to get the update.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Thanks! That worked... BUT... now it looks like I have a bigger problem. I was able to get the updates and re-root but when I was restoring my backup I could not boot up. Because I have the update HBOOT I can't go back and do the stock RUU, I am able to boot up into TWRP recovery but now I am TOTALLY lost. When I shut down from recovery it says I don't have an OS installed, idea ideas?
I got it! Kept reading various posts and re-installed AmonRA instead of TWRP and was able to install the OTA-Global-Stock-4.05.605.14 710RD-Rooted ROM, already had flashed the boot.img. Wow! How does anyone figure out how to do this stuff in the first place?!
So while I had my HTC One, I converted it to the Google Play Edition for stock Android. I'm now trying to sell it after getting my Nexus 5, so I restored the CID to stock (CWS__001), removed the tampered heading, returned hboot to 1.44, locked the bootloader (while setting the heading to 'locked' instead of 'relocked'), and return the phone to S-ON. I installed RUU version 1.26.502.12 and it worked without a problem, so it's now COMPLETELY stock.
Problem is, I KNOW there are updates, since the phone is only on 4.1.2, but it refuses to see them when I run AT&T Software Update, and I'm trying to figure out why (also plugged in my SIM card again, to try to run the OTA).

Phone is currently on stock recovery. After putting everything back to completely stock (which required root and TWRP) I installed the RUU again, to put EVERYTHING back to stock, including the recovery.
Well, I don't know why it didn't see the update earlier, but I checked again this morning (had to roll the phone date a day forward to allow another check) and it successfully saw and downloaded. Looks like I was just being impatient...
