[Q] Clicking noise, top left corner - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
i am from germany and bought my tab in canada a few days ago. I was a few times at best buy, before I decided to buy it. In the shop I bended, folded and assaulted the demo device like hell. I did not hear any clicking noise or saw other strange things happen.
Now back in germany, I found the time to play with my device and found the following problems (in Canada I just took it out of the box to verify that it is not a DOA):
* When I grab the tab with my left hand on the left side and with the right hand the right side and apply slightly (!) pressure in contrariwise direction, then I hear a noticeable clicking noise in the top left corner (although I am not 100% sure that it is from there, but for sure on the left side somewhere).
* There is a very tiny little black spot/dust/dirt between screen and glass (or between glass and coating?). If I slighty push with a finger at this point then it look like there is a bubble or fluid around this spot. It is hardly noticeable during normal work, but I am worried if it has side effects in the future.
I could live with the latter, but the former makes me crazy.
As samsung is currently not allowed to sell the tab in germany, I can not find any warranty information on the german website. Do you know if Samsung offers in general international warranty so that I can send it in for repair in germany?
Any other adice? Maybe a DIY repair for the clicking noise?
Best wishes,
Klaus

PS:
I think I have the same issue as this guy here:

Moving to Q&A

I have a similar problem on the right side near the speaker. I noticed that if I pushed on the back the adhesive would hold it for a second, but then pop back out.
I tried exchanging it but the guy refused after I examined another device they had which had the same problem.
Honestly, as an electrical engineer, I can't fathom how my issue could progress to something worse after looking at a disassembly. Maybe one day I'll take it apart and fix it, but it's not a high priority. I'd classify it as a cosmetic flaw.
What I suggest is just buy a case and forget about it--that's what I did.

@oclock:
If i where you I'd contact Samsung germany first and ask, if they refuse go to the netherlands or whichever is closest and ask if they can help you.
Personally I'd be furious for such a flaw considering it's far from cheap

The little black spot sounds like it might be the start of the infamous "Newton's ring' also know as 'oil slick and,'moisture under screen'. It should be covered under warranty and people have successfully done that. Other people are putting the unit in the fridge or blowing into the charge port.

Random Spots Developing on TITANS / 6800's

I have the XV6800 and noticed that this phone over times developes some screen spots. I have one so far, and on my previous one that I returned (for other reasons) developed one also.
I read a thread on another website that Moguls / Titans develop it too.
Has any one else Developed this? If so is it fixable or is it something that might cause like sometype of recall and issue a fix where we might get phone replacements later on?
i have a light spot about the size a pea in the screens lower left-hand quadrant. It's noticeable it during the verizon boot-up screen with the white background, in word, etc. anything with a white background. Not noticeable if the screen is colored.
I've wondered if this was normal.
mine's got 3 of them now
same here, my burnin spot is also in the lower left-hand corner the size of a pea.
same here, lower left corner is lighter than the rest of the screen...looks like somebody missed something on QA

Yes, mine is in the exact same place. I read on another website that it might be an HTC issue because other TITAN's have gotten these spots also.
At first I thought that a picture image was burnt into my screen or that I might have pressed the screen to heavily and damaged it.
This has happened twice. I wonder if there is a fix because this is very annoying especialy when trying to read or watching a video.

I have a pc6800 through Alltel and just noticed the same problem three days ago...has anyone spoken with their SP and found out if they are replacing them?

I am afraid to take mine in since my all High and mighty Moister sticker now says void even though my phone hasn't been with in 100 feet of water. I find those stickers to be such BS...but that could just be me...I wish I could find some where to buy spare ones..

I am not entirely certain but I think the void sticker that is displayed by the battery is for the screw. I mean if you try to unscrew your phone to fiddle with the insides then that voids your warranty. I could be wrong.
The only concern would be that if we where to return the phone to get a replacement one, that we would have to flash our RADIOS and ROMS to stock if any one has flashed them to anything that is not stock.
The stickers on both of my alltel 6800's said void out of the box. Their explaination for this is the when the sticker get wet the words bleed and turn the entire sticker purple. Not sure how accurate the rep was but that is the story for what it is worth.

Yep..you are right . The void stickers are good until they turn a solid purple or red...weeehhh...I'm goin to go and replace my phone this week will let you know how it goes..and what they say
Yeah, mine's got a spot the size of a small pea in the bottom left-hand corner. Doesn't bother me too much yet though, I've got the insurance so I'll go get it replaced one of these days. For others that have tried to get them replaced, any troubles?
After doing some research on forums I noticed that many people have this problem.
Some say that it might be an issue with the phone heating up, faulty LCD manufacturing, the excess use of the vibration feature and so on......
But It seems that no matter what you ( such as gettting a replacement) your current or new phone might still get these spots.
It seems that not many carriers know about this issue, not even HTC.
So the problem might consist unless it is made known to them so they can create a fix for the new shipment of phones. Or else this will reoccur on the phones they have shipped out already.
It sucks because most of us paid a large amount of money for these devices to have it be faulty( not something that can be fixed via software at this moment). Just my opinion.
Ditto, same spot here. was wondering about the spot for a while. I have dropped mine a million times and thought it was because of that.
would be nice to be able to change it in because of the spot because mine is beat down to the ground like 4 flat tires.
will they give me crap because of how beat up it is?
I know every time I go to Alltel and get a phone replaced via the insurance the first question they ask the Rep at the store is if the phone looks like it has been dropped or if it has water damage....I'm sure that is so they can blame it on the user. As far as the phone being under manufacturer warranty they usually just swap it out for me no questions asked. I just always hate when they open the box infront of me and give nothing but the phone....would be nice to have an extra case and charger...LOL..
anyone know if sprint good about swapping phones and if i should do insurance or manufacturer warranty and if i do insurace can i switch to touch or you can only change phone in first thirty days
i got 2 spots in lower left corner
Me too (x3)
I've been through three Sprint-branded titans because of this. I'm 100% sure it's a design flaw. If we all complain at once, HTC might actually listen and make a titan that doesn't do this!
I also have two pea-sized spots in the lower left quadrant of the screen. Doesn't really bother me though, as I only notice it when the phone is booting up.
I've got 3 spots lower-lefthand corner as well on my Mogul.
I made a poll to actually see the statistics of the effects of these Spots on the TITAN / 6800

[Q] [Help] Strange dark spot on S2 camera

Hey everyone,
I noticed a small dark spot on the left of the pictures I was taking with the phone, and ignored it. This was about 2 months ago.
But just today, I turned on the camera and saw a large smiley face dark patch on the camera. iv tried cleaning it with compressed air, rubbing alcohol, restarting the phone, reflashing the stock firmware. Nothing is helping.
Im really really annoyed, for a phone so expensive why is it plagued with so many problems? Nothing is stopping me from tossing this thing and getting an HTC or something because I am getting a bit fed up with the pink spot, usb port problems, grey spot etc etc. Anyway, enough complaining.
For now, any suggestions?
http://i.imgflash.com/plb.jpg
I'll give you $20 for the phone.
Didn't realise this was a sale thread...
It's not. When people throw tantys along the lines of 'I'm going to throw this phone against the wall & get a <insert brand/model of phone here>', most people on here roll their eyes and/or laugh. And tend to ignore the person posting same.
Now...To your issue.
It may well be a physical issue with the camera/lens. There may be something trapped inside the glass covering the lens (maybe at manufacture), or it could be a scratch/blemish of some sort on the glass itself.
If it's that much of an issue, I'd send it in for warranty service. Obviously if it's an issue around a scratch or blemish on the glass covering the lens that has developed after you bought the phone, you might well have problems getting it fixed under warranty.
The other thing you could try (you didn't give us any info about rom) would be to go back to stock if you're currently not running stock to rule out a firmware issue, though you did say you noticed it two months ago & let it slide.
To me, that sounds like it's either a hardware problem with the camera/sensor or that lens/glass issue I mentioned.
I too got a spot on the top right hand corner if I use the camera, not otherwise. It's very annoying and now my s2 is NOT in warranty period. What should I do? The upper glass on camera is clean without any scratches.

Check your Lumia 920 for unibody defect

Hi all, I found a defect on my Lumia 920's unibody casing. the top bezel is somewhat loose and it squeaks when the phone is cold and clicks when the phone is warm. I find it very annoying because I like to grab the phone from the top and bottom. here's a video of what I'm talking about:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vevk0LIlLPo
I already replaced my phone at my Rogers store... you might want to check yours and replace if necessary. I feel the clicking will get ALOT worse in the summer when the weather is hot.

funny you mentioned this, i only just noticed the exact same thing about a week ago....
I had a similar issue with the unibody also.
It make noises when I press between the power and camera button.
I took the phone back to the Nokia Care and after more than a week I went there to have him back but it had the same issue. So I give it back one more time and I'm still waiting....

do you guys all have the black version? I've heard that apparently different colored unibodies also have different stiffness...
also when did you guys buy your phones? build week?
I'm planning on getting a yellow unibody to switch out my black one.. but first I have to guarantee the yellow shell won't make those noises...
thanks for the replies!
I have a very slight click near the top of the phone (but not constantly) and that's it. I have the white version. I won't bother changing it because until I read this thread I can't say I even noticed it.
I got a black one on launch and its quiet. No creaks, squeaks or clicks.

I have this effect at right side at the middle and at the top. Won't bother with replacements until it will be getting worse/other defects will appear.
To me it is a minor thing. Also no warranty that new one won't start to click after time.
If you put it in a protector like one should with a 600 dollar phone you won't ever even notice this issue. Plus other than an annoyance it has no affect on the phones function.
mine too
I have a black hong kong version. There's a creak/squeak at the middle left (no button) side. which is little disappointing to me when it's the most expensive phone I bought and build quality was very well reviewed.
Mine does this if I press in the middle of the bottom half of the back. Strange thing is it doesn't always do it, seems a fairly random issue.

my old one does different things in different temperature. In freezing temp it's quiet, in room temp it squeaks, after gaming it clicks.

Hello,
I have the yellow version from November last year and I didn't encountered any problem with my phone; I saw a lot of users that have problems and some strange of them but I haven't.

I have a red Lumia 920 and I am on my 4th unit because each previous phone has had creaking issues on the body. Now, these haven't been the only issues I have suffered but the others are irrelevant to this thread. It does annoy me. I cringe whenever I picked up the previous phones because of the creaking it would make. It makes the phone feel cheap, and quite frankly it shouldn't and thankfully Nokia agree.
I have had my current phone for a day now and so far no problems have developed so I am hoping for the best.
mine was fine until I dropped it twice in the same day (within about 10 minutes of each other) once on concrete, then for some reason decided to drop it again and it bounced off 3 different objects, since then you can hear a 'click' if I press down on the top of the phone in the centre near the front.
bit miffed as I have a scuffed corner now on an otherwise mint phone, have had it for a good few months tho so the novelty of how shiny and nice it looks has almost worn off
I have the white one, a friend of mine has the black one and has no issues with creaking/clicking on the case, but then he has had a silicon case for it since the day he had it, maybe that's helped?
Well, I have had the phone for 5 days and the squeaking/clicking appeared yesterday. I realized that a part of the body feels "hollow" inside so I proceed to disassembly the unit.
When I take out the cover noticed that in fact there was empty space between the case and the board. I put in some supplement (I had to try with several ones until I found the piece that let me close the phone with no extra effort or excessive pressure). Once I get it right, put the parts toghether again and the squeaking/clicking was gone. Also it doesn't feel hollow like before.
I think is a problem with the material expanding and contracting under different temperatures and because it doesn't have a true anchor to the sides (it goes in and out very easy, no extra seals on the sides). Pretty nasty thing for a High-End device.
PS: My carrier (where I bought the phone) said that it was "normal" and refused to replace the unit. Normal my ass!
Aside from that I'm very much inlove with the 920 and WP8.

I hope your supplement is a material that does not generate static electricity. Otherwise your fix may damage the phone beyond repair. Things like paper, cardboard, plastics like bag material that is not treated, cloth, and many others all generate static when in contact with other non conductors like the inside of the phone body. Just a warning from an RMA tech who has seen ESD damage from bad fixes and the customer stuck with a voided warranty.

Yeah, it was non-conductive material. I sort of a tech guy so I know a little about that. I used something that I commonly use as aislant and vibration cancelling in my PC mods. But thanks very much for the warning anyway. :good:
Following the case, after keep ranting about that flaw with my carrier (and phone vendor) I'm with my second unit now, also yellow. I noticed that the power/lock button is lower that the volume and camera buttons but its not a problem (it is lower compared with the firt unit, if this one was my first surely I was going to think that this was the original design).
I've been looking like a paranoid squizo for other defects but so far, so good.
Pretty lame for a high-end phone and a WP8 flagship. Even if its just a batch. Still,, I freaking love the OS.

Defective!!!

picked up my phone earlier this afternoon, (preorder 32gb) 1st im told that my wireless hdmi will arrive at a later date, when i open up my box once im home i see that the top speaker grill did not adhere properly. only half of it is sitting right (camera side) but the half with the sensors is floating ever-so slightly. i am in love with the phone but this is really bothering me. i can clearly see the red adhesive and some is even on the side of the phone. after a quick phone call to at&t i was told i can go back to the store i which i pre-ordered and recieve a new phone.
picture with the headphone port shows a normal adhered corner and the other shows the gap on the grill
Has anyone else had a problem like this?
so take it back get it replaced

Very similar to mine but not quite as bad as what your pic shows. I decided not do anything because it is purely a cosmetic issue and you have to look really hard on mine to see it plus all my parts are aligned spot on so everything is flush with no over hang. If I had yours I would take it back to the store and demand another 32 GB asap. They should have em. 64 GB will take some time to reach stores so I may decide later to exchange.
You have a one year warranty so you could wait too. Remember iPhone 5 had similar quality issues at launch.
Lol, I'm just waiting for mine to come in. I presume I will get one that has a perfect body, but a dead pixel or two, I will then return it for one with a flawless screen, but screwed up body, and then be forced to live with it.
I went to a store to buy mine and made them open the box before I took it

mine has a very slight gap, similar to yours on the right side, except mine is more uniform. I think it's the fact that it's glued on. personally I'm not worried, but yeah if it bothers you go demand another one. they promised you zero gap construction, if you don't thin theyve met that promise you go back till you get one that does bro.
Guys, anyone has dead pixels on their Ones? Got them on two of mine....any idea how many considered defective by HTCs standards?

I called AT&T and they told me to go to my nearest store and they would replace it, even if it were a minor cosmetic defect it would still worry me. Even the slightest bit of water could go in through a gap like that and damage anything or even worse activate a water strip forcing you to go through Insurance for such a new phone. They were pleasant and accommodating over the phone, I'm glad it was an easy fix.....
Now I'm just sitting here staring at the phone, it makes no sense to do anything software wise to it because I'm going to return it in the morning..... No fun for me today

Not sure about HTC but AT&T will exchange it for you..
Dead pixels is a definite return in my book.
Wow!!I was wondering it's only me or a wide spred issue. Now I know it's not just me. My phone looks perfect at the top but the bottom has imperfections. There is a very slight gap and I can feel the ups and downs when I move my finger around the edges. I think I should go to AT&T sore and see if the replace it.

I had the same issue with mine, and the store manager said he would only exchange it if it had three dead pixals. The phone had about five dead pixals but in two different clusters which made it seem like only two pixals, due to the high dpi. The store manager than called att and asked what he should do because he was only able to see two dead spots/pixals. They probably told him it was up to him and that the defective pixals should be clearly seen with the naked eye. He refused to exchange it because he felt uncomfortable not being able to see more than two dead spots/pixals. I tried a different store with much success. Probably because the store manager was so understanding of the issue.
I went to the store and replaced mine. The first one they showed me has the same issue (uneven flow of construction with the bottom speaker top) and pulled another one which still suffers with similar issue but not that evident. I took the second one and left. It looks like the bottom part of the phone is little complex and very wide spread build issue with these phones.

Their Display phone was perfect. It looks like they are displaying Apples and selling Oranges.
hey i was finally able to recieve a new phone, i walked into my local at&t and spoke to a rep. i was reffered to the assitant manager who looked at his own phone and refused me a replacement phone. i pressed him and gave my phone to the store manager who only agreed to give me a new unit once she saw the red adhesive showing on my top speaker grill. i went and looked at every display model they had, bottom grill on the phone shows a miniscule gap towards the center of the device. speaker grill on top also shows a gap that is more prominent towards the ir blaster. Not sure if this is normal but i will try to visit other locations even a sprint or t-mobile store and look at the build quality on their versions and take pictures to compare. im not too sure of why something like this should happen, but my 1st guess would be an unlevel surface underneath most likely from the injected plastic... i really hope it isnt, such a beautiful phone. something like this should not have a rushed manufacturing process.
About the gap, I got 3 Ones from Att and they all got tiny gaps, but seem to be glued tight, but I mostly looked at uneven speaker grills and screen, since all had some!
Ps, Double Dip is lovely case, got one with the purchase
Every single One we have sold at my store has has zero gap. I've made it a point to look at each one.

I just got my "baby" yesterday. And with trying to entertain a 1 year old with a slight head cold, plus do all the data transfers from my One X+ to this one, I never thought to actually look the thing over. But I'll be darned, after reading the first few posts just now, I took my case off and yep, there is an ever so slight defect as well. Their not gaps..but a slight "wavelike" unevenness all around. I have very sensitive tactile sensations in my fingers, so i can feel roughness on certain spots. Trying not to let it bother me, but my neuroticism is trying to kick in.

Really, they refused you an exchange? When I had my Optimus G, they exchanged it for me because it got too hot. If you get a new device and it has dead pixels, they should not be able to refuse service. Dead Pixels should not be a standard.

spontaneous screen crack

Just a quick question. Anyone else have an issue with their screen cracking? My P9000 has developed a crack over the led. I didn't drop, knock or bump the phone. I've emailed support for advice. I'll keep this forum posted.
Update got a very prompt response. Two sentences
"Good day!
we are sorry to hear that, but screen will not crack by itself. it may have some physical damage on it."
No details of how to get a repair, that's it! Not the best customer service. I've replied enquiring about service centres, costs etc. and will update the post when I get more info. There are a few posts asking for similar details re. Screen replacement so the info will be useful for the community.
actually it's strange to think that a screen can brake by itself , can you post some pictures?
elephone customer care have already proved it's lower quality service . i don't know where you live but best solution imho is to give the phone to a local cinese phone repair shoop , here in my city there are a couple that repair - fix phones for low money and they also provide spareparts that arrive very quick and at low price thanks to it's black market channel, try to search one
I agree it's very unusual that the screen would break in this way, but I'm really very careful with all my devices and this has never happened before.
If Elephone say that this cannot happen then I'm not going to quibble, I'm more interested in repairing the phone. Sending it back to the seller for repair will be an interesting, long and probably prohibitively expensive process, but I'll make enquiries.
In other news Elephone are still working on a new ROM for the device, I took the opportunity to ask supplementary questions in my email  so the chatter on the forums about the 19/04 build being the last one can abate for a while.
The crack in question. Doesn't impair functionality and there's are no signs of impact
The only replacement display I found on the Web is this one https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32673463140.html Unfortunately I have no clue if this is an original display and if could place it on my phone by myself
Your phones has physical damage along the bottom side of the metal frame can clearly see where its been scraped. You sure it didn't drop or get dragged along something while face down? Hopefully there's an OEM replacement as its just the glass that seems to be damaged not the LCD
Thanks I wouldn't know how to even begin the repair but it's useful info.
I had a similar small crack appear on mine which had not been dropped I assumed it had been knocked whilst in my pocket, But then today i put my phone in my pocket to drive and collect the kids when i got to the school i had 3 additional cracks I assume its something to do with the size of the screen and it not flexing.
The new cracks now make it pretty tough to use the phone as they are affecting the touch functions, once i can unlock it i will take some photos to post.

Thank you. I'd almost convinced myself that I must have knocked the phone.
Events have taken a new turn. The left hand side of the screen now creaks and pops when you press on it. If I press sufficiently hard enough it stops creaking and popping, almost as if it is correctly seated again only to literally and audibly pop out again 5 minutes later.
I will post a video later, and will be contacting elephone with evidence that there is a design flaw with the device. I'll keep this forum updated on my progress.
thats weird thats where my spontaneous crack started images attached, the bottom one is under the glass but i think was the cause of the left side one.
Adding images as attachments as well given the URLS don't seam to be showing correctly.
Mine also has a minor crack on the screen, it's in a case and has not been dropped. There is no damage to the frame at all, I'm guessing it's from being in my pocket. The phone obviously isn't as strong as mainstream manufacturers. My crack is very faint in the top right corner and you really have to look at it in a certain light to see it.
If it gets worse, I'll buy a new phone (One Plus 3) and not look at this device again

Mine broke in my front pocket without impact. It was the aluminium frame that was bending and must have cracked under the stress. In hindsight I should have started putting the phone in my pocket the other way around. Ha ha!
