[Q] Cannot overclock android - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have Htc Thunderbolt and Asus transformer and would like to OC. Both are rooted and installed it custom kernel that can be OC. They showed up in about phone and about tablet so I know they were flashed correctly. I'm using setcpu to OC but when I go into the app the max that it is showing me is 1ghz and I can set anything higher. Is there any other settings I need to mess with? I flashed the zip folder in clockwork recovery mode.

You need to use a kernel which allows frequencies above 1Ghz for your device.

What is the frequency range of your kernel? Did you select "autodetect" to allow setcpu to recognize the frequencies?

Is SetCPU asking for, and are you granting it superuser permissions? If you don't grant it superuser permissions you can underclock, but not overclock.

OK it was set on nvidia tegra2 I didn't know you set it for auto detects thanks for the help.

The simplest way is to use ROM Toolbox app. It has a range from 122MHz to 2.016GHz.

[Q] Setcpu is not saving changes after boot [Mik'sCM7 6.5.2/Francokernel 14.1]

Hi! first of all sorry my english (not my first language).
I have Miks CM7 6.5.2 and Francos kernel 14.1, when i try to set setcpu and i put "set on boot" when i back the settings are again the stock ones (245/600 ithink, something like that), and is not saving the OC, anyone knows what can i do?
btw, setcpu is not on sdcard
Regards!
Use No-frills CPU Control from the Market. It sets on boot for me. It's also incorporated in the new devoid.
Try to downgrade SetCPU, use version 2.11a or 2.1.2.1. This should work.

Well, I think you should just wait a few minutes after reboot before checking. Since, AFAICT, this is a feature to prevent you from being stuck in a boot loop.
CM7 has its own option in settings to over clock so you dont need setcpu i still use cause i dont like mine to be permanently over clocked but that might be why try uninstalling setcpu and ust using the CM7 settings

CM7 OC settings break with franco's kernel. no frills has an unclean reboot feature which sets Clock to last working freq in case of KP. so no worries there.

Problem with setCPU

I'm running fauxs kernel but I scaled it back to 1 ghz. However, when I select Time ib each state I notice that it's still going past that frequency, what am I doing wrong?

i am having same issue, i think set cpu only kicks in after the boot.
I rebooted and I still have the problem.

I meant to say setcpu only works after boot like cpu will be 1100 while booting after OS is loaded up setcpu gets super user permission and then scale cpu down.
If kernal has set clock to 1000 by defualt and only then it boots at 1000 and u can use setcpu to over clock it.
i guess old faux's 1.6 kernel was default 1000 new 1.7 is not.

Set CPU constantly granted super user permission?

I run the original cm7 rom with the infected kernel. I use set CPU to under clock/over clock to try to save battery but it constantly gets granted super user permission, and it will not sleep automatically. Any body know a way to fix this? Btw when I get rid of set CPU completely the battery life is worse...

Go into superuser options and turn off notifications. Problem solved!

You should not be using SetCPU with the "Infected" AnthraX kernels though. It doesnt work well. Try System Tuner or SysTune

Thanks guys

AOKP Overclock?

Is there a way to overclock the newest AOKP? There is a CPU manager in it but it only goes up to 1Ghz. So I tried a 3rd party overclocker but it still only gave me 1Ghz. I want to run it up to 1.3Ghz. Any help would be appreciated.

If it won't let you over clock it's because the current kernel won't allow you. You need to flash a different kernel that supports overclocking/voltage control

Everybody is burnt out from the big ICS update.
OK so i think I figured it out. For those on fjs roms. You have to disable andrev oc so it disables the CPU profiles set in fj-tools. I did this by using rom toolbox. Go into root explorer and browse to system/xbin and find the andrev oc file and rename it to andrev oc.bak then set a CPU profile with which ever app you are using and reboot. I'm using system tuner to both overclock and undervolt. This is working for me so far. You can check by going into settings ans clicking on CPU tweak. If it force closes then its disabled. I was checking logcats and it is no longer changing the CPU back to default settings on screen lock. Flap feel free to chime in if this is gonna break something else. Other wise no issues yet.
