Is there a usb host mode kernel... - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Being worked on? Lack of this feature has and will keep me from purchasing this. And I totally am in love with it. I go to best buy and play with it once a week. I'm here as I'm typing. I checked to see if nook devs cooked one up and they did, and now I'm contemplating on giving up on the HTC flyer pipe dream and buying a nook. I'm an event photographer and something like this would be vital to my mobile workflow.

[Q] Who's Jumping ship....

Alright so Now that is appears as though the EVO 3D will never attain full Root lets see how big of a deal this really is.
I haven't made up my mind yet...however I am seriously considering it.
The phone in itself is still bad ass and i am pretty sure you can still gain Root and do some minor modifications.
However, the fact that you can not fully customize and flash roms and kernels that fit you the best is a big turn off.
HTC just turned into Apple with the elitist take it or leave it attitude in my opinion.
Not me its the future for most phones i'm not going to stay with an evo forever because of it. Besides eventually someone will figure a way around it if not with the 3d with something else. Look at the ps3 uncrackable supposedly and the xbox 360, psp and so on and so on where there is a will there is a way.
It saddens me that I won't be able to mod my device that I paid for, but I'll still get it, it think. Maybe I'll wait for it to release then get a 4g, instead. We'll see.

I got a Nexus S 4G off contract just because a Nexus is always worth owning. I was able to attain my upgrade again and was ready to pull the trigger on the 3D and alternate until I found a preference, if ever. Now? Not a chance. Will stick to the Nexus and use my upgrade on either the next Nexus or a next gen WP 7.1 in the fall.

Be careful on what you say. That can give false hope and I hate to see people buy this phone expecting that someone will get on it and find themselves like other phone users.....sitting with the exact same phone they bought a year later.
Samsung Galaxy S 2, here I come! Unfortunately, I have a feeling I'll be waiting a while.
I will shed a tear for the EVO 3D on release day, mainly because I wanted the hardware improvements. But I'm not going to put myself in the same boat as the Droid 2 and Droid X which still have no root!
I still plan on getting it day 1 as well, I'm not really sure why so many people think Samsung is the magical catalyst in the equation to stop buying HTC products.
The Galaxy S looked great from afar, and that's pretty much all that it did. What makes anyone think Samsung suddenly got their act together and will be releasing timely, seamless updates for GSII? I'm confused...not to mention all the countless other flaws it has.
I'd much rather own a locked HTC phone than deal with the garbage that came from all angles of the current Galaxy S line.

I'm still going to get it. I like sprints service and samsung has to prove that they can keep phones up to date. Plus, sprint does not get a whole lot of new phones like the other companies.
My game plan had changed, however. Before this news, I was going to use my upgrade and then trade in my evo. Now, I'll just buy the phone retail, save my evo and upgrade discount. That way, should something better come during quarter four, I have discount options, plus to the ability to sell the 3d and my evo.

If you have a discount available but won't use it now for the 3d but use the discount down the line, why not save the money now and pay full retail on something else down the line. What if down the line you decide to keep your 3d and not buy something else.
If you are willing to pay full price for a device, might as well keep your money now and in your pocket instead of Sprints. Don't see your angle on this one.

my thoughts exactly.
I don't know yet. I never really used the Root feature on my Hero, just for the occasional new look every few months. Not too sure that no root will be that big a deal for me. As long as its fast(er than my hero) and works for texting like it should, I'll survive.
Wouldnt matter to me i find all the customize apps on the market already matching my needs. I will probaby worry if i cant upgrade to the next firmware of 2012

+1 on being harassed by the Mrs. for spending too much time on my phone---especially when I am in recovery/rebooting when she is trying to get a hold of me.
Coming from a Hero on launch day, I am due for some new hardware. Since I am a Sprint Premier customer, I can certainly live with it for a year (assuming it makes it past the 30 day return period). I still plan to get one on launch day and shortly thereafter, be able to install SU and my rooted apps.

My cousin got a droid 2 and he's rooted via Z4root. There's just not any ROMs or Kernels/Themes you can flash over it.
as long as it has a partial root so I can use wifi tether like the original unrevoked I'll be a happy camper, though I would love a myn rom on my evo 3d if thats not possible I still wanna use my rooted apps!
The price will deter me more than the fact that it's locked up. If it releases at $300 then I'll spend another $100 and get the Asus transformer and keep my Hero for another year.
Honestly... I was a little worried about 3D support with custom ROMs anyway. I'm sure HTC is doing a lot of stuff to get Android and Sense to work with 3D.
I've had some concerns with security on some of the custom ROMs lately anyways, so I will have no problem going back to stock sense. I actually really like sense... it was just too darn slow on the Hero. I'm sure it will be nice and fast on the Evo 3D. I'm still planning on getting it. But, like I said, if they announce a $300 price for it I'll consider cancelling my pre-order and spending another $100 to get a tablet. Smartphones aren't worth $300 when you can get laptops/tablets for $300-400 nowadays.

[DISCUSSION] Should I buy a Touchpad?

Well i find it Super intereting to modify and loading android onto the touch pad, but i have a asus TF, Works great, Love it.. but wondering would it be worth the hassle just to have a new toy to play with (mearly jut that reason)
i think a Bestbuy 40miles away may have a new shippment in today. but debating weather to go and buy 3 (me, mother, step dad) what your thoughts about this?
I think a better question is, can you find a Touchpad to buy? If you get one, you will definately be happy with the purchase. And if not, there are plenty of us out here that will be more than willing to take it off your hands.

sounds good i would say yes and they is plenty of people who would take it off your hands
You should definitely buy at the PRICE at least for the hardware
yea i know the hardware veiw point im like "what for $99!!" but currently waiting to find as rumor has it.. new sale is bound to happen soon, ( as i read from many forum posts) but i think if i do I will buy it.. but i wont be heart broken if i dont...
Don't forget that if you get a TouchPad, you can also register for 50GB free storage at Box.net (you have to do it via the app on the TouchPad). Depending on what your storage habits and needs are, that might be worth taking into account.
I would say you should not buy it just so I have a better chance of getting another
Why do you need another tablet? That'd be my consideration.

IF you can find one, buy it. Worst case someone will buy it from you if you don't like it.
Also I think Best Buy will limit you to one per customer, at least that's what one employee said his store was going to do.
well thismorning the local bb got a shipment and it was gone before i got there at 10am. Didnt think people of brownsville knew... :| but i think ill give up. The process I went through to figure out if a TP was really a good buy was to figure out what exactly I needed it for. I just can't justify spending $400-600 on a tablet that's not going to fill an integral part of my technology needs, but $100-200 (depending on size/shipping/etc) is a reasonable amount for me, even if Android never gets ported to it.
The UI is attractive, and there are enough games and apps that I could let my 3 year old play with it while supervised and it wouldn't be the end of the world if something happened to it.
While your situation is likely different, hopefully there is a bit of insight into my personal decision making process in deciding if a TP was a good value or not.
Of course you should buy it...then flip it for 2-3x the price. Then put that money towards an iPad. Then jailbreak and hack to your heart's content and/or develop apps for a viable market.
Then sell the iPad for near full retail right before the next iteration drops and either buy the newest version or three Nook Colors for your family members.

He wants to tinker around on android but he already has a transformer and you think his mother and step dad want to develop on a dead platform?
How are they going to use it? Browse the web one tab at a time? Read e-books with the broken app? Play movies on the gimped player? My guess is you don't actually have one.
My advise is not only solid but it's based on experience with all of the devices in question. But perhaps his parents are xda members
well i know they wont develop on this, i had mentioned to them its a tablet and if they wanted one they can get one (if found) for $100, i told her to look at youtube reviews about the TP, she liked and wanted one.. i wasnt one to mod, toy, develop, and since its not bad hardware. and i dont want to turn around and sell for $250 as i have seen on Craigslist.
we mainly want one due to the firesale Price of $99, but i am unablet to find one so i dont think i will get one. i am no noob when it comes to electronics and software. i wouldnt get a ios device since i dont like the feel of ios, nor apple software. android is nice love it, webos, havent really had enough time to play with it but seemed to be promising if HP let it grow more.nook color is a nice toy, but not really my flavor, now i think ill retire my TF (for modding)when TF2 comes out (Kal-El) platform, so yea

The only reason why I'm even considering buying this is because I saw that android will be able to hopefully run on this and id like to see honeycomb as well as ubuntu on this and the price has become cheaper. I know you all here have it so i was wondering your personal opinions on the device.

Hannspad or HP Touchpad?
Hello!
Lately I have been looking at the Hannspad, but since the kernel hasn't been released I assume that the custom roms aren't as good as they could be (or am I wrong?).
So I was looking at the HP Touchpad instead, which has very nice specs (better than Hannspad? 1GB Ram & 1.2GHz snap, 10 point touch! Better price) and Android development for it is slowly starting for it, 2.3.5 is working and I hope they'll get it functional soon!
So what are your thoughts? Should I look at the Touchpad and see how development goes over the next three weeks or get the Hannspad ?
I'll buy in the beginning of next month, and I'd like to have a somewhat functional tablet, so what are your thoughts? Will the HP ever get ported so good, that it'll work 100%? How about hardware accel.
Thank you <3

Not hating, just FACT. With a security hole like the one reported you might as well post all your info on your Facebook wall. Don't get me wrong, I prefer Sense over TW and Blur but not enough to leave a phone wide open like that. There is workarounds but that hole never should have made to production.

The locked bootloader is the reason for this. That is also why you are seeing the developer migration from HTC to Samsung.
Look at the OG Droid. That thing had tons of dev support. I, for one would love to see Papa Google take webtop and use it as a launchpad for Chrome OS. That would be awesome.

I fired up webtop for the first time today and while there is a "betaness" to it I'm very impressed. I am probably going to buy a small, beautiful Samsung television to run this on and start incorporating its use more and more.
Shabby, you seem knowledgeable, maybe you could tell me...
1. Can we extend USB ports with a port expander?
2. Do you know of any printing solutions? I know Kodak won't play with Linux but I'm pretty sure HP is in, so perhaps plug and play? But if so...I don't know of any Android office suites that even have a printing option.

wish you the best. I wished you could've held onto your flyer as well because I think you will miss out on the awesomeness of our beloved flyer once ICS or even Jellybean is fully functioning (which I feel will be very soon). Honestly I would have probably made the same move you did if I didn't use the pen as extensively as I do.
I wanted too hold on to it but I needed the money to afford the nexus. Also had to sell my PSP and zune, still $40 short on the charge. I really love the communities here and I wanted to see where chaos took Lisbon, but overall I the Flyer fell short of my expectations. Honestly I didn't get it because I was hoping for ICS, but I didn't realize how honeycomb sucked in General. Overall I am ultra picky about lag, a lot of average users would play with honeycomb and not see a reasons to complain, but I guess it comes from being a PC guy. My PC has either always had the hardware or I've tweaked whatever version of windows to keep it lag free.
But my flyer only sold for $125, not having a pen screwed me on price as most sold with the pen but at that price when I'm doing better financially I could buy another one easy I'll still be around here as threads show up in participated on tapatalk and I'd like to help out new users. But overall if you aren't happy with the flyer and you don't need the stuff your loosing, then sell it now before it depreciates more because this thing rocks. Ridiculously wicked fast and jelly bean is really cool . See I remember ripping on the fire for not having an SD and I planned on getting a 32 gig SD for my flyer but never got around to it and found I didn't need it. I got the 16 gig nexus because of game storage primarily. A rear camera never was important to me, and I have never used mhl, I got a ps3 and roku box networked to my PC for streaming purposes.
I also like how much easier this thing is to hold. The back is grippy and the weight is pretty light. My flyer I'd drop when trying to switch orientation all the time because the back was slippery and it was a bit heavy.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I hear a nexus 10 is in the works, but I dunno with the ipad still being the world's most popular tablet and the ipad 2 starting at $400 it seems like the 10 inch market is lost to apple unless they could hit the 300 mark or so.
I will say the Android tablet market really sucks right now because if you want the features the nexus doesn't provide then your at the mercy of a manufacturer that might keep your tablet updated might not. Honestly the update problem is more forgivable on a subsidized phone. No one holds on to their phones and if your phone gets cut off too soon, your probably only 3 months from your upgrade date anyway. The flyer will be my reason for only buying nexus products from now on. I bought the flyer and planned on keeping it several years, and if they would of just gave it ics, I could see that happening. The nexus has better hardware, but I bought it for the software, the flyer was plenty capable. Overall though htc in general has annoyed me, I never complained about poor support from Samsung with my captivate, even though I was on par with my HTC devices because it had an unlocked bootloader and updates didn't matter when you could root it and keep it up to date yourself. Chaos will make that happen with the Flyer but my phone is a lost cause. HTC put some code embedded in the device that prevents the RIL from working properly with att sims. And then this "relocked" rubbish you know I'm sorry but putting a custom rom on won't break my screen, power button, or speaker, and imo rooting shouldn't void your warranty unless they can prove you a change you made caused a power failure. When we bought our Dell laptop in 2009 it came with vista with a windows 7 upgrade available by mail when 7 launched. When I got it I put the 7 disk in, booted into it, upgraded from disc, and wiped my previous copy of windows. All bloat was removed, and I was pure windows 7 no bs. And it was still covered by warranty 100%! Imo putting a custom rom on is no different than reinstalling windows on putting Linux on your pc and doesn't warrant a warranty void. Ok stepping off my soap box now /rant

The Nexus 7 is great but I wish it was a higher end device with better build quality.
The software is amazing though. Everything is so fluid and smooth. Also, the amount of development is crazy when you consider that not much development is really needed! It is overkill.
I kept one of my two Flyers and still have high hopes that the dedicated devs here will get it all sorted. Chaosz-x and Dexter have come a long way and I am hoping that the UI flinging issues and video issues can get fixed.
All things considered, I don't think I'll buy a non-Nexus device again. This is a lesson learned the hard way from HTC.
Honestly the build quality is on the same level as the flyer. Don't let the screen separation issues scare you off, it affects less people than it looks. People get on message boards to ***** not to praise and mine seems flawless thus far. Screen is gorgeous too btw, I noticed the screen calibration issue but that's minor and Google is going to patch it at some point.
Also it's a lot lighter and easier to hold than the flyer which I like and its overall a good looking device. I don't quite get the Asus bashing, being a pc guy I've bought alot of Asus parts over the years, in fact my motherboard right now is an AsRock, a budget brand of Asus and you'd think it was a $200 board with the features and build quality

Too much plastic to be good quality!
I'm with you on the non nexus thing. Speaking of which development is dead for cm10 on my vivid, ril issues they couldn't overcome. Htc makes their stuff too damn hard to hack, I don't know why they care. Imo recovery should be installed out of the box, s-rubbish should of never existed as with the concept of locked bootloaders, and rooting should be an option in recovery with a disclaimer. Shouldn't void your warranty unless you break something afterwards that's the result of something you could only do with root access imo. Why do these companies care anyway?

It might not be that easy for HTC to tell whether an issue (such as a brick) was caused by hardware, or something stupid the customer did. There are a bunch of people on the One X that are bricking their phones by flashing the ROMs for the wrong version of the One X (international Tegra3 ROMs on Snapdragon S4 devices) despite the forums being completely and deliberately separated, multiple warnings and threads instructing not to do it, etc.
Some of these guys have already said (or had it suggested by other unscrupulous members) they were going to try to return the phone for a free replacement, claiming a hardware defect. With behavior like this, its not hard to understand why HTC is locking bootloaders.
Question: Is it safe to do a "Factory Data Reset" on this tablet? This has been rooted and upgraded to 3.0 using Globatron's method.
I made the decision to sell this on eBay as well. Also, Cor, how much did you sell yours for?
I'm planning on selling mine with the pen, a portfolio case, and a Trident Aegis Case.

Should be. You just want to wipe our personal data from the phone? You can always wipe data from CWM, as well. That I know works.
Note that either way, it just wipes data and leaves whatever ROM was flashed on the tablet. The term "factory reset" is a bit of a misnomer. It implies to some people that the stock ROM will return, which is not the case.

I see where you are coming from as a basic consumer, but what these big companies want are corporate clients. While we don't care as much if our phone is secure, too a lot of these government contractors, and larger private business having secure phones is a big deals, since executives and the like will company proprietary information on them. All of a sudden S-ON and lack of root is important.

Nexus 7

Not sure if i will get in trouble for posting this in here, but,my reason is because the Rezound forum is where i spend all my time and i wanted to ask you guy's/gal's instead! :silly:
Anyway, anyone here have an N7 and can give some personal experience pros/cons?
Looking to pick one up for X-mas. Will mainly be used by my wife and myself for browsing, watching vids, e-books. Anyone have a blue tooth keyboard attached that they recommend?
Feel free to add any additional info that you think a perspective buyer may be interested to know.
Thanks everyone!:good:

My brother has one and i love it. cant beat that price for one of the most powerful tablets on the market now.
Pros:
Hardware
Google updates
$$$
Cons:
No expandable memory. He has the 8gb from launch and it cant hold that much. he blew through the 8gb fast and is now trying to play catch up when downloading new games.
If you plan on getting one. Please get the 32gb. I know people will argue saying its not needed if you're just going to browse or watch a couple of videos. But it happens to fill up quickly and you cant change your mind. lol
U love mine kindda p.o. about buying one before the price dropped lol but get one it is worth it

I bought my gf one for her birthday and she loves it. She hardly even uses her computer anymore. I love the fact that you can add multiple users. She has her own profile and when I feel like using it I click on my profile and instantly shows all my stuff on my own home screen.
Oh and the only thing she doesn't like about it is the camera quality on Skype is horrible. I've read that there are mods to improve the camera quality, but because this is her tablet I am not rooting it.

I absolutely love mine. I got the 16gb version and I use it every day. My laptop basically only gets used for burning CDs now. I'm running the stock rooted 4.2.1 and I think it's perfect. This is the first Android device where I didn't have a desire to install a different launcher or install some form of heavily modified or AOSP ROM. It's worth every penny in my opinion.

I love mine, just got it last week. my girlfriend has her settings and i have mine, it's awesome. i use a logitech bluetooth keyboard and google drive during school to take notes. the keyboard pairs easily and i experience little to no lag while using it. i can download my books on there too and boom, that all i have to bring. the keyboard comes with a case that transforms into a stand for the tablet when taking notes.. i linked it below, it's also available at best buy(where i got mine). good luck, it's definitely a good buy. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-...words=logitech+bluetooth+keyboard+for+android
I absolutely love my N7 and I wasn't expecting to enjoy it so much. Feel free to PM me with any questions you have. If you're doing research in the N7 sections, in the past it's been mostly trolls and morons who post in general but not development, so at the very least find someone who is active in both sections.

I have the 32gb version and I am very happy with it. I take mine out in the field with me and have it tethered it to my Rezound which is great for my daily use. If you are flasher then I would suggest taking a look at the Nexus 7 forums, some really nice Roms.
It is great for what it is, just don't have false expectations. Not to be combative but if she plans on doing the things you mentioned extra memory is not needed. I am a fairly heavy user and haven't even looked to see how much of my 16gb I have used.
Con: as a flasher I get kind of annoyed with all of the updates. bc so many updates the roms never really smooth out. Everytime I think it's set up great there is a new update. (first time with a nexus so maybe just annoyed with change).
I have an 8gb one with an OTG cable. I hook up my 16gb card to it. I also stream my music and movies from my server. Bought the OTG cable on Amazon for $.70.

I've had one since release ans I love it. Only con I can see is that there is no expandable memory options however the device holds up really nice. I have a Bluetooth keyboard for it as well, I got it from Motorola off of Amazon and haven't looked back I also have a treegloo case for it however I'm not sure I would recommend it because as of late it has been starting to break down even though I haven't abused it in the slightest

Well, it will be a Merry Christmas in my household......I picked up a 32gb last night!!
All i did was charge it a bit and turn it on to make sure it was working properly and immediately put it back in the box. Mainly bc my wife and myself are dorks and want to wait til christmas morning to officially open it :silly:
Now I am accessory shopping, need a nice case and maybe a stylus. I messed around with the display model a bit, and, with an iPad mini. Mini is wider, thinner and a bit lighter. And the thinness and lighjtness is where the comparison stops for me. The screen on the Nexus absolutely blows the mini out of the water. I didn't get too in depth using them, but I didnt need to. The screen comparison blew me away. I couldn't get over it.
Can't wait to hack away Christamas morning!
Good choice:thumbup:

Don't have time to read through the entire thread to see what everyone is saying, BUT if you are considering getting one then you definitely should. I don't even know where to start, but its perfect in every way. Very brief breakdown.
Pros: the perfect size, battery life is great, ROM development is plentiful, the device itself is really fast(running aokp 4.2.1) , lots of options for cases, and much more.
Cons: None!
I originally got it for when I run on my treadmill in the basement to watch Netflix and downloaded TV shows. Now after having it for a month I bring the thing with me almost everywhere. Best $250 I've spent in a long time.

Also, not sure what style of case you're looking for, but I went with this one. I love it. Perfect mix between class and protection. Can't beat the price either.
