Hey guys and gals, I saw there were a few FPSE threads but mine is a little different.
I have FPSE running, pretty well in fact. I'm running phiremod 6.3, and using wii controller to play PSX games on FPSE. Everything works really nicely, running most games at decent speed with decent sound, but within about 5-15 minutes of gameplay, my Nook shuts down and restarts completely. I have tried turning on and off a bunch of the settings in the program, but no luck. It happens randomly on different games, so I know it's not just one iso that's causing problems. I am using a class 10 SDHC 16 GB card to store and play my isos. Would moving them to the nook internal storage help? Are there any combination of settings on FPSE that you recommend for Nook use?
Basically, has anyone of you guys gotten FPSE running reliably well for good lengths of time without crashing? If so, please let me know what settings you have enabled/disabled. I am definitely stuck on phiremod 6.3 for now, since the n64oid doesn't work on any higher versions of CM7, unfortunately.
Thanks for the help guys (and gals too of course)!

I would try getting a Sandisk class 4 uSD and see if your issues go away. Class 10 cards have extremely high sustained read/write speeds, but suffer greatly on shorter and random read/write cycles.
Like DizzyDen said, but you may also try reformatting and installing everything to the SD card again, could have gotten corrupted when you were writing the os to it. (Happened to me in the past, random shutdowns, force closes, etc.)
Thanks for the advice guys! Bummer about class 10 having these issues... guess I should have researched it a little more before spending so much money on the class 10 when a class 4 would have been better. Luckily I believe I do have some 2GB cards that may be class 4...
Just out of curiosity, is class 4 the only one that is guaranteed to work well or is it just the optimum/maximum speed that doesn't encounter these errors?
Would moving the isos to the internal storage from the card fix the problem, or would I have to go back to the original files I downloaded and copy from there?
Thanks again!
I doubt it's flash card related unless the card is having data corruption problems. Speed shouldn't be an issue because consider that a real PS1 has a 2X CDROM (300KB/s) with around 300ms access time which is extremely slow compared to any flash media.
With PSX4Droid I found that some games work better as PBP files. You can make those with IceTea (do a search for it). This is pretty hit or miss though. But an advantage is that it can compress game images a lot in some cases.
My experience is more that the PS1 and N64 emulators are generally unstable and that's even when the game is fairly well emulated let alone all of the games that aren't.

FPSE is far better than PSX4Droid and is fully stable on the Nook color, his problem is unrelated to the program itself.
An unstable overclock will frequently cause the NC to reboot.

Do they both run well on a stock Flyer running Honeycomb?
Which should I buy (OK, which should I buy first...lol)?
LOL, 160 views and no comments?
Well, at any rate I do have an update to report: last night I bought and installed Shadowgun.
I haven't really had any time to play the game, but I can report that it definitely installs and runs on a plain-vanilla unrooted Flyer running stock Android Honeycomb. You need 250 MB of free space for the data download, which consists of 11 packages that download consecutively.
The game does run. I played it just about 5 minutes, so I cannot really speak to how fun it is or how well it will perform when the action gets hard and heavy. However, from the get-go you have a chance to kill two baddies and the Flyer handled the situation with nary a hiccup.
Graphically, this is a beautiful game. Can't wait to spend some time with it so I can give a fuller review.
I have dead space and it runs now since they updated it.
So fun and smooth that I'm on my third play thru.
Bought Shadowgun after it listed for .49 .... It's ok. Dead Space is better. I'm more happy with my Dead Space for 6.99 purchase than Shadowgun for .49
i did the same and installed them both when they were cheap... i'm on honey pot 1.1 and having a lot of crashes.. not force closes i get an error for those... instead these apps are just closing on their own it's like they reach a buffer overflow or something and they just completely crash... wish i could play these games like everyone else with out issue
I think the flyer doesn't have that much ram to support these apps/games... I was using the neutron music player and the player just closes by itself when there's not enough memory. So I guess it's pretty much the same for these games since their graphics are quite impressive! =)
Well if the flyers 1GB of RAM isn't enough, what devices would this play on?
Maybe the GPU isn't up to snuff, I can see that.

Now, admittedly I've only completed the first level, but I have encountered no problems or slowdowns with Shadowgun. Works for me.
LOL, looks like both these games are $.49 today. Get 'em while they're cheap, boys!!! (I know I'll be snagging Dead Space when I get home).

I don't think this is accurate. Both games play very well on the flyer/view. I'm just enjoying Dead Space way more.
Weirdly enough I agree and disagree with above post. While I have honey pot 1.1 loaded I've got loooads of free memory .... Like system tuber pro tells me I have over 500 MB free. Then I open flick golf extreme / dead space/ shadowgun/ whatever ... And quite more often than not the game will end up just closing/ crashing on its own straight to my homescreen no errors. So I've been trying to save the logs from when this happens... Its all pretty much Greek to me but I haven't seen anything about low mem in the crash logs. But. Idk what else it is either...

You were having problems with the Google Play store too, right? Maybe you need hard reset. There must be an app messing you up somewhere.

I play ShadowGun & have music playing through Winamp & don't get any hicups whatsoever! The in-game sounds are on que & frame rate is great. I'm still on 2.3 stock, just rooted.
Still need to get Dead Space though.
I've only tried Dead Space on my Desire HD, it's a awesome game.
I ordered a HTC Flyer yesterday, so i'm hoping to be able to game some Dead Space on it soon!
I've played Shadowgun almost half way through running LeeHC rom and everything has been smooth. No slowdowns at all. Have to say the gaming on my Flyer is so much better than on my phone because of the screen size.
If your having slowdowns check the running apps before launching the game and exit anything that might be dragging the device down. Also, I've always had good luck running Cachecleaner daily on my devices. Seems to help keep things running smooth.
I've been playing Dead Space on my flyer, and so far no issues to speak of. It's played pretty smooth so far, no crashes or hiccups. I'm using LeeDroids HC ROM.

Hi!
I just wanna check with some other ppl that are using SNESDroid with their Primes and are running ICS. No matter what game I play, I get stutters now and then. The emulator halts for a sec and then just continues like nothing happened. I'm using a PS3 controller when playing. Tried with and without the cable, doesn't make a difference. And I've checked the keybindings. There are no duplicates there either.
But here's the interesting part. It happens alot more when hooked to a TV via HDMI! Starting to think it's either a problem with ICS or the Prime having a hard time deciding how many CPUs to use for the app. I happen to know that these sorts of lags/stutters can occur because of it. Very annoying because the gameplay is otherwise sooo smooth >.<. I've tried changing the powerprofile but no difference.
The emulator does occasionally kick you to the mainmenu for some reason. Might be related to that too? Only seems to happen when not connected to a TV :S. The Youtube videos I've seen only mention this problem, not the one I've been having. Reinforcing that this might be a problem only I'm having...
Hope that you ppl can confirm and/or help me fix it . Thanks!
I don't have stuttering issue with snesdroid. for most part it plays pretty well. I have noticed a few times it kicking back to the load rom screen. its the app itself. it needs to be updated again and more optimized. majority of time it works great.
do your save states work on it? I never can seem to get it to work.
I have SnesDroid, Genedroid, FPse, N64oid, Neodroid(my favorite. plays and looks really good), & DoomGLES(best doom emulator out there. has updated 3d graphics, lighting effects, and more)

Interesting hmm... Ok what firmware are you running? Are you stock? Where do you store the games? If on a SD card, what brand and speed? "Oddly" enough my save/loadstates work perfectly. Really starting to think that it's the app... Probably not so good with ICS and/or multicore CPUs :S. I don't seem to have any problems with Fpse etc.
I'm on the latest firmware .15 on the prime. I'm still on stock rom but rooted and overclocked to 1.6Ghz. I store all my games on the device itself. haven't went out and bought a nice size memory card yet. all rom files except FPse ones are small. PlayStation roms are the big ones. maybe that's why I don't experience any stutter. prime will read rom data faster off the device itself. maybe you need a faster/higher class memory card. so prime can read it faster.

I'm on the same firmware. But not rooted (shouldn't make a difference) or overclocked. I tried running games off of the internal memory, no difference. But I kinda knew that since I'm using a Samsung 32Gb Class 10 MicroSD card >.<. Could you try playing some games on stock speed? Preferably via HDMI since that makes it more obvious. And last but not least. What setting you using in the app? Frameskip? Stretch Sounds?
Thanks!

rooting and overclock doesn't make a difference. I play most of the time on stock speeds and use the default set up in snesdroid. I don't change anything as it works good as is. its only FPse and neodroid that I may change some settings. have you tried uninstalling then installing again? maybe even a soft reset, which won't delete any data but will clear any faulty coding and files.
I wish I could find a dreamcast emulator or a 3DO one. I just got the TurboGraphix16 one and works great.

Thanks! That narrows it down to app settings. I know I've changed them so gonna restore the default settings and try again . I heard about a Dreamcast emulator online. But apparently the guy working on it has kept it for himself so far =/. Maybe in the future...
Sorry to bump old post. I had another user experience this same issue. I'm trying to track down possible causes.
One setting to adjust for sure is the audio stretch. Reduce it to 0, if you hear no crackles then great.

I'm pretty sure I've never noticed stutters from SNESoid. From PSX4Droid and N64oid sure, but not SNESoid.
I disable audio though because I'm always listening to music, maybe that helps?

Do you mean all nooks clocked over 1200mhz is bad, or just running cm9? I'm running cm7.1 at 1325mhz, and just want to make sure I'm not doing something stupid. Thanks
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk 2
Yes and no. If you have a 24/7 overclock of above 1200 MHz, then it is very unstable and can cause damadge. The Texas Instruments OMAP is good at managing overclock up to 1200 MHz, so if your 1200 MHz and don't go over that, you should be fine. It dosent matter what software, it is all the same processor.
In other words, if you are constantly running the way you are, you may be slowly damadging the processor and after a long period of time it will just die completely. Now if you just clock it that high when gaming or running a system taxing process, then you should be just fine, as long as you lower it into acceptable levels when you are done with said process.
I hope this helps!
Yes that does help, and thank you. I've jumped into all of this with absolutely no knowledge of computers or anything related and would never forgive myself ifI did something to damage my nook. Lol. I hate to bother you with another question, but im wanting to run cm9 off an sd card butI can't seem tI find good instructions on how to do so. My problem is that even using generic-sdcard-v1.3-ics-large-img and its still says I don't have enough space whenI try and put a cm9 nightlies on boot. Very confused. Once again thankyou for your help and sorry to bother you.

You are using a ssandisk class 4 card? if not You may have problems. I use only Sandisk sd cards 8 or 16 GB cards.
You write the image file to the sdcard, remove the sdcard then reinsert card back into the computer, then use easeus or mintools partision program to resize the partision to about 1GB (do not resize above 1.87gb or you will have problems), remove and reinsert the card and then copy the ICS nightly to the sdcard. follow the rest of the insrtuction from there.
Adding on to Paul's post (which did a nice complete job, I might add.), you want to do a full wipe of the SD Card using your NookColor (preferable because Windows 7 dosent recognized some items you flash to the SD card) or Computer.
I have a Nook Color 1.4.2 running Verygreen CM7 via SD Card. I installed Nova v3.50.apk and I get the game running in a very small screen on my Nook Color.
What am I doing wrong? How can it run full screen like yours?
Thanks.
This is N.O.V.A 3 the new game by gameloft v1.0.1 not the Nova 1 v1.0.1. I am running CM9 however and on my device emmc (internal memory).

That explains it. Wrong game.
I wonder if NOVA3 will run on CM7/SD.
It probably will, but may not look or be as nice as on CM9 =P.
I'm currently installing Nova as we speak been shooting emails back in forth with with WM and he is very very helpful. Cheers mate and thanks for the fantastic help and understanding.
Thread overhaul is done! Now it has tons of more information and hopefully full instructions on how to do this yourself! Hope you guys enjoy!
I plan to try NOVA 2 at Cm9 non opengl, running from Sd.
Should I make any tweaking? My OC is at 1200 mhz.
Unleashed from my Revolutionized Desire HD
Nova 2 doesn't even start for me.
Produced by NookColor at ICS 4.0.4
Where'd did you get your dalingren kernel? The only ones I can find are for CM7. My nook is now running the latest nightly build of eyeballer's non open gl cm9, and i can only Overclock to 1200 mhz max
All you need is to get the Nook color tools app here. It is free by the way. If you have any other problems just contact me via this thread PM message or by my email address in the Main Thread.
Any proposal for game that runs in CM9 in Sacred Odyssey style?
I like RPG but not these with anime and like cartoon graphics.
Produced by NookColor at CM9 4.0.4

Horn by http://www.phosphorgames.com/. You see it at about 51:44 in the google io day 1 keynote video
They haven't seemed to have much news on it though heh
Dead Trigger was also shown, which you can easily find on play
Updates updates updates! Dead Trigger and compatibility for CM7 has been added. Cheers! I hope you enjoy.
Has anyone managed to play Asphalt 7 on the HD+ with cm10.1? It crashes right after the "g" is shown and returns to the home screen. This happens on a clean install of the rom.
(Isn't it ironic that it played perfectly on rooted stock)
Edit. It pays fine, but levels take crazy long to load and there is load lag in some levels. Not worth playing A7. NFSMW is slow to kiss too, but not as bad. They seem to load slower, the closer the device is to 3gb remaining. Strange.
Yep, plays perfectly, but like my Tegra 3 tablets, none play as smooth as my iPad 4 with A7. NFSMW on the other hand plays just as smooth on the HD + as the iPad 4. Seems A7 was a semi lazy port.
Then it must be just my luck! I tried installing/uninstalling/reinstalling half a dozen times and I still can't make it work.
I am using stock 2.1.
It doesn't seem to be running for me either. I purchased Asphalt 7 from Google Play; installed perfectly fine. Once I run the game, the gameloft logo appears, the "G", and then closes. I've tried this on rooted 2.0.6, and on CyanogenMod 10 on a Nook HD+.
I've not tried this on stock 2.10. Actually, I've not even updated any of my Nook devices to the latest version. I'm on Cyanogenmod on both devices.
So neither works for me, even after paying for the game. Perhaps it'll work on stock with 2.10 update.
Update: Asphalt 7's recent update works on the Nook HDplus. I am now able to load and play Asphalt 7 perfectly, although it is a little slow at start. At least it works, not going to complain.
It was unplayable on stock but once I installed 10.1 I am getting ~25 FPS vs the 9FPS on stock.
I wish it where higher though.
As far as loading I have a 40MB/s MicroSD card and it loads about 20 times faster running 10.1 from the SD than it did off of the onboard memory.

Hi everyone, I've just bought an Xperia z2. I'm having low fps in games like asphalt 8, real racing 3. It was the same with kitkat, i updated my phone to lollipop but nothing's changed. I'm still having low fps. I searched on net but it looks like nobody is having the problems like me. I'm getting about 41000 points in antutu. My phone is not rooted. Please help me with this problem.
Note: Sorry for my bad english
What do you mean by low fps? Asphalt 8 is a very GPU intensive game, all Snapdragon 800/801 chips with adreno 330 get average fps of 32, it drops to 24 sometimes.
Unless for you it's real choppy, like with stutter or real low framerate like 10 or something, try a factory reset. Do it from recovery to completely wipe everything. And if that doesn't do anything, could be something with your phone.
And where did you put those games? Maybe you put them on external SD card? It may be slower compared to built in memory which could result in game stuttering constantly.

this can depend on the quality of your MicroSD
i thought it may be specific to S800/801 because anything that's not a 800/801 has much less of a hard time playing games

Those racing games are capped at 30 FPS max, even if your GPU is capable of doing more, in order to save some battery and prevent over heating. I am assuming you have a past full of games like them so your eyes are educated of catching the "between-frames" thus making you think the game is not rendered smooth enough. Most probably nothing is wrong with your phone.
