[Q] Question/Problem with fserve's GBS kernel - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hi
I use CyanogenMMatt rom v1.1 and I decided to flash the modified version of Franco's kernel by fserve (gbs) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227682)
Testing the phone after the flashing, I realized that in the settings are options for a physical keyboard, and the O1 doesn't have one. Is possible to delete this option?

I don't think that the kernel has anything to do with adding options under menus. It is becuase of the ROM.
Deleting this option is a DEV question. I'm not sure. But why care about it if you're not going to use it? Let it be there.

[Q] MIk + Franco

Hi Guys,
I consider myself noob and any type of help would be appreciated.
Can I mix Mik_os CM7 rom and Franco's 13.7 KERNEL? If its possible, What are the most simplest steps to do it?
same question. ^^
I tryed Gingerbread-2.3.4-rc2 @2011-05-22-21.00+GMT0 + Franco and didn't work. I think it will not work too.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Few more questions.
1.Is it better or what?
2.Do I need to make partitions before installing the Kernel?
3.Do I need to wipe anything before installing the Kernel?
Greetings. As for me i think that mik's CM7 already has it's own Kernel optimized for CM7 so there is no need to flash another kernel like franco's which is i think most optimized for franco's void.devoid ROM. Also i did some benchmarking tests on AtuNtu. So on clean CM7 6.5.1 with native kernel , with CPU 600/245 i had 1326 result, after that i flashed franco's Kernel 13.7 , CPU 600/245 and i had 1136 result on benchmark. As for battery i dont know hadnt time to test both. But i really think that the best combination is just CM7 + libsqlite.so patch + franco's tweaks and none modifications for kernels.

i think the best way is to do it a clean install and use clockwork latest
wipe sd card, create partition 512 mb (automatically creates ext4)
transfer rom file and franco kernel using usb mount
wipe data, cache, system, and then select mik rom and install
reboot and complete the setup for rom, boot into recovery again and flash franco kernel do wipe ur cache
reboot
done!

No, just flash over. It will overwrite the old kernel.
As a short explanation:
no kernel have so sayed "special code" for froyo or gingerbread. We (the developers) have currently the 2.6.32 as base kernel because of missing drivers for a newer kernel version like 2.6.35.
the only difference between all .32er kernels are the patches - one kernel have more patches, another kernel have better patches, another have nothing of all - it works only as is.
thanks for explanation.
Thanks to all who responded.
Ok. New scenario. new problem.
I got mik_os v.6.3 + p500 tweak + libsqlite.os + DT apps2sd + CWM
The problem is I can't upgrade to mik_os v.6.5.
I already got the rom. I tried wiping everything using CWM, even the system. After installing and reboot, I got stuck in the first LG logo. Am I missing anything??
What is the correct way to upgrade and exact steps to take??
Thanks in. advance

i think you need to format your sd card because of app2sd and leave it without partition , and try to flash the rom. If successful then make partitions again and flash app2sd.

[Q] Help with random crashes using Franco Kernel v15

I'm using Franco's Kernel v15 + ZRAM with Mik's CM7 6.5.2. At first it was a dream, 1352 points on quadrant and 58.5fps on neocore @480/729Mhz Smartass. Everything running smooth and really fast.
About 6 hours of intense testing some apps (many, in fact) started crashing for no reason. Mostly google apps like Calendar and even Market. But also some widgets and running services.
I reflashed everything, even re-formatted (and re-partitioned) my sdcard and everything was fine again but after a reboot to install google applications (gapps-gb-20110325-signed.zip) the crashes started again. And I was running w/o overclocking at this time.
Searching for some info on the issue I saw a post stating that v15 kernel is for FROYO only so it's not compatible with CM7 but Franco always said that his Kernel was compatible with CM7 and there's no such info coming from Franco himself so I want to be sure of it before flashing a Froyo ROM.
Any thoughts on this issue? Any help is appreciated.
Edit:
Maybe it's worth noting that my phone is a O1 p500h, apart from the 3.2mp camera I don't really know if there's other differences in hardware that may cause problems.
That h is ur problem I think
I really hope not. I've been using Franco Kernel + CM7 for many versions and never had any problems with it (well, aside CM7's known bugs).
I'm from Brazil and CM7 is the only ROM I know that has Brazilian Portuguese (pt-BR) language support. All other ROMs I tried are strictly european and only have support for Portugal's Portuguese (pt-PT), which is kinda different and "sounds" quite annoying at some times.
And while I feel quite confortable using english, it's not the same thing as your mother tongue.
Its weird some users reported this kind of stuff.
I think its safer to use dookmatt kernel than franco kernel
Could a theme cause this kind of instability? I just remembered that on both times the crashes started I was experimenting with a XperiaArc theme for CM7.
Are you using app2sd or data2sd? These may cause such conflicts at time.

Nope, but I have an Ext4 partition on my SD-Card so I get more "internal" memory for installing apps.
You need to use some external app/hack for what you have described, so, essentially the answer is yes, not no

I am facing certain problems like you after flashing devoid.franco+kernel V15+ ZRAM.
I had following issues for the past 15 days.
1. changed the stock ROM to devoid Franco + V14
I agree the performance of the phone increased. Did OC using Set CPU. Score over the Quadrant was never over 650, not an issue with this as long as i can feel the diff in the performance.
One major change i saw was - as you all know the SMSes get threaded with a particular contact (both recd and sent msgs.). In my case if i receive sms from TD-I-mint, the message was shown as received from TD-Reylon, similar with all the SMSes, the actual sender was never possible to know when you see the list of msgs. Only after you open the msgs then you could find out the sender.
this is continuing still with Kernel 15.
2. same situation after flashing V14.1, V14.2, V14.2.2.
3. with Kernel V 15 + devoid.francoROM with little change. I wiped everything, SD was partitioned and upgraded to EXT 4. Flashed new ROM (05-06-2011), rebooted, flashed Kernel V15, rebooted, flashed ZRAM, rebooted, but phone never came to life, had to remove the battery and reboot, same result. Then wiped cache and dev cache, then flashed ZRAM, the phone was breathing.
Then tried to flash the system apps downloaded from first post of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049518&page=1, the phone lost its life and had to re-do the whole process of flashing ROM....
With update of ROM + Kernel V15, i had to re-do the whole process for 5-6 times. I never had this problem with older kernels or flashing custom ROM.
One major issue is - msgs and other apps like TB (list of backups) some times display vertically. Today for the first time the SMS app was force closed.
Any-body facing issues like this or issues and you have the solution , I request you to post here.
I guess the best solution for me is to use the stock ROM with franco.kernel. This way I maintain my country's language (and, most important, GPS configuration) and still get some nice tweaks from Franco's.
By reading the comments on v15 kernel, it seems wise to wait for a new version before installing it. There are several users experiencing heavy battery drain. Or maybe install v14.2, but I don't have it anymore.
So, is it safe to use franco.kernel v14-v15 with LG stock ROM (mine came with v10A, android 2.2.1)? Or does it have any compatibility issues?
Thanks for your replies.

Yes it does. Am running stock 2.2.2 with Franco's kernel v15 and its smooth as butter.
Running 2.2.1 stock ROM + franco.kernel v15 for about 10 hours now, so far no significant change on battery use.
But I miss mik's ROM performance... FPS on neocore dropped from 57fps to 36.5fps. And my old score on quadrant was 1350 and now is 615.
Is there any improvements I can install on my stock ROM? JIT? HW accel? I really could use some more performance.

yes, you should be able to use gprs on miks rom both v6.6.1 and v6.5.7. See the channel logs for this rom on the 3rd post. As far as I know, data and gprs will not be available if you have the new baseband installed (v20 something) since the roms are for v10.

1. you can't get the old baseband back if you are already on v20.
2. it is not built in on any ROM, it is flashed via update on the PC
3. You can opt to do so... usually yields good results when flashing a modified kernel over the original one given by the ROM's creator (i.e. mik's CM7 uses franco's v18 in one of his builds which could be updated to v19 and the experimental build uses franco's gingerbread kernel.)
Quoted from Mik:
Q: I flashed rom and GSM don't works. What's to do?
Q: I have new baseband, how fix gsm? (you have new baseband if you upgraded your phone to official 2.3.3)
A: Flash this: gsm fix (support for new baseband, this is not baseband itself).

[KERNEL] Stock and optimized CyanogenMod kernels (also with TUN and CIFS modules)

Download stock CyanogenMod kernel
What is it?
It is a flashable ZIP containing zImage and wireless.ko extracted from cm-7-20120701-NIGHTLY-p500.
It is not compiled.
It is completely stock CyanogenMod kernel.
Who is it targeting?
Users of CyanogenMod (or CyanogenMod-based) ROMs that tried alternative kernels and now want to go back to the stock kernel.
Download optimized CyanogenMod kernel
Regular version | Extra version (with TUN and CIFS modules)http://www.mediafire.com/?efgv63eq614zn2ohttp://www.mediafire.com/?efgv63eq614zn2o
What is it?
It is exactly the same as CyanogenMod kernel, but compiled without some debug functionalities.
End users do not need them, and removing them makes the kernel smaller and may increase the speed a little bit.
This kernel should behave just like the CyanogenMod kernel and should have exactly the same functionalities. (in case it doesn't, please let me know )
Additional version with extra modules included - tun.ko and cifs.ko.
Who is it targeting?
Satisfied users of the stock CyanogenMod kernel that may want a little increase in speed and/or some functionality provided by the extra modules included, but do not like fancy modifications in kernels.
I need feedback and suggestions on the optimized kernels. Thanks in advance!
Nice one, could become handy to have a flashable stock CM kernel WITH wireless.ko.
Just a suggestion: You should enable the CONFIG_IKCONFIG option so that one can check which options you have configured in the kernel.
Also could not harm to have the tun.ko module as well (CONFIG_TUN), if needed for VPN connections.
Added versions with TUN and CIFS modules.
Flashed this, all seems good currently, great work
Also, this patch supposedly fix call reboots. Worth a try?

This time I disabled the "optimize for size" option and also checked another option to strip symbols.
When I have time I'll do a better research on that, but it's funny that all these changes in v01 and now v02 don't seem to change much in the benchmark I tested (AnTuTu Benchmark - only "CPU and memory", "2D graphics" and "3D graphics" tested).
In the worst case scenario I'll use this thread to publish only the latest stock CyanogenMod kernel to those who want to get it back.
Researched some more optimizations and built a new version. Now only one kernel already with the extra modules (TUN and CIFS). And it's getting harder to discover new optimizations.
Thx for your extra version with tun module, i flashed this kernel and openvpn work now with cyanogen rc1
Updated all three kernels. Enjoy!
Thanks, this is what I want.

This time I slightly broke my promise of not modifying the code of the optimized kernels.
I applied one change from LG's newest souces (V20A for LGP500H) that seems related to the behaviour of the phone when the screen is turned off (I'm not 100% sure).
https://github.com/yuripg1/lge-kernel-msm7x27/commit/ea2157b140ecf79530f33a214e38b48204c39e2b

I also tried it by myself a little before releasing it and so far it's doing fine.

I know its no longer in development so I assume its stable and its just user error. I also don't know where else to ask these questions so I hope I am in the right place
First off, I can't access the settings (not AOKP settings) in the menu. It crashes every time. EVEN on a fresh install with nothing but the gaps.
Second, the ROM starts to slow down after only a little bit of use. I want to say this is bad memory managment but clearing the task manager doesn't help. The only thing that gets it up to speed is using the kernel tweaks app and setting the gov. to performance mode which really kills the battery.
Third, which type of kernel would I use to put on this ROM? With or without mic swap? Plus what is the difference between AOKP and AOSP?
Sorry for the nooby questions guys but I'm rusty on this stuff. Don't bash on me too hard
Probably best place to ask would be the thread already created for it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303484 I've ran this rom myself and can say I didn't experience any of these issues, a lot of the time it's user error or not doing a complete and total wipe before installing. Or a bad flash.
As far as I know, AJK v4.9 AOSP and STI v2.40EX14 would be the choices for a custom kernel. Use the AOSP version, not the swap or no swap versions.
AOSP = Android Open Source Project
AOKP = Android Open Kang Project
AOSP is a generic term for Google's code. AOKP and all the other rom names such as cyanogenmod, miui, carbon, etc. are names given by the developers.
Oh, and nobody around here bashes any more. All the high strung guys evidently have moved on to newer phones. Or they've mellowed with time, lol.
I installed ajk kernal and it gave me a huge speed boost. But I still get a ui crash when I go into settings=>kernel settings. Any ideas?

Yes, don't use the kernel settings in the settings menu. It was meant for the custom kernel that originally came with that rom.
Instead, use STweaks to make any changes you desire; it was installed when you flashed AJK.

Ah, TY dude. I tryed this kernal a long time ago when it was still in its early dev stages and there were some bugs. I remember STweaks but you had to install it via the play store. I kept searching for "st tweaks" not STweaks so it wasn't showing up. I was wondering what happened! haha
