[Q] Where are all the kernels? - HTC EVO 3D

It seems like there is almost no 2.3.4 Evo 3D kernels. Id be very interested in something like netarchy toastmod for the Evo 4G...a kernel that improves battery life. Is there a reason why there arent more kernels, like no source code or something?

Mkernel + Juicedefender has done good for my battery life.

I can think of perhaps a half dozen 3d 2.3.4 kernels. Problem is most are built into ROMs.
Right now the best battery life I've tried is the Tiamat kernel that comes with viperROM. I get 19-25 hours of moderate usage on it with the OEM battery.

[Q] Evo 4G owners that have moved to Evo 3D

I'm curious if anyone that has moved from an Evo 4G to an Evo 3D has a used, rooted Evo 4G that gets good battery life that they might want to sell at a ressonable price.
My wife and I both got early, pre-ordered Evo's from one of the lots that just gets crappy battery life no matter what. April's not that far away, but at the right price I'd replace my wife's now. She has an extended battery (3500 mAh) and gets less than many of our friends do with the stock battery, and the stock battery is far worse.
Thought it couldn't hurt to ask. Thank you for your time.
I just got a used Evo 4G off ebay for $110 shipped. Rooting it is a piece of cake even on gingerbread now.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

If you get a evo throw CM 7 on it or whatever the latest CM is nowadays. Best battery life I have ever seen.

Whats the best sense based Rom for battery life?
Any ROM can achieve amazing battery life, just make sure you have setCPU and under clock the CPU. I get 5 days on minimal use on my 3D.

I would love to challenge this. I'm not calling BS because well, I don't know you and I just don't really do that but I DO want to know what type of usage you are doing. In my experience I can get a few days if I just pop on to text and check emails but not with anything past medium to heavy usage.
As for the 4G, YMMV so just read up on it. I agree CM plus custom kernel I probably got the best battery I have ever gotten on a phone period but everything past build 150 that started to decline. Sense based Roms I would suggest anything in the 2.1/3.0 hybrid family plus chop suey kernel. The 3.0 and 3.5 just never really ran right for an extended period for me and the battery was really quirky. Also, most of the 3.0 to 3.5 features were not really available in full form so it was kind of pointless.
I migrated at the beginning of the ICS releases so I would also check into those. I sometimes float back and they are FAR more advanced than we are right now.

The ics kernels what's the difference?

I know joelz and Kush have two different kernels what is the difference between the two? Kush says he has a battery fix so what is the difference and why won't joelz use that kernel?

I havent looked into the ICS kernels for a few days now, but JoelZ probably used CHad's as nearly all EVO 3D people use his kernels now since they are the best by far. All ICS kernels are alpha kernels so they will get more and more features working as time goes on. Even if Chad's kernel is somehow not the best right now, there is a good chance it will be once things hit a stable release and beyond.

yeah I get that they are all alpha and such but wouldn't it be better to include the kernel that has the battery working and such rather then sticking with one that doesn't. Unless I missing something here.
He sticks with Chad's because it has full hw acceleration.

is that it? do you know the difference in speed between Chad's and whatever one Kush uses?

since i posted source for HW ACCEL - its a matter of time before every one has hw accel
but as of now
your choice is hw accel or battery %
hwaccel does make a drastic change in 2d and 3d gpu performance
battery% is a nice to have for some, and a must have for others
the kernels that use battery% fix are not gpl compliant, so i am unable to use that fix in my kernel. - so until my hwaccel is kanged, you need to pick 1 or the other
when they kang my hw accel, the obvious choice would be to use theirs.

Thanks for that explanation I'll stick with your version because I don't really care to much about the battery %. The speed is what I want in my rom. I'll stick with yours for now and see how it goes. You have done a great job hope you don't think I'm complaining.

How to remove 3D indefinitely from a from?

I've noticed that AOSP roms that don't support 3D use up less display in the battery. However roms that do support it use up about 71% battery by the end of my day. Aosp or other non 3D roms use about 40-50% I don't use my 3D at all. I use the camera about 4 or 5 times on daily average in 2D mode

It's due to being stripped of sense like CM7 was on the EVO back in the day along with alot of other AOSP roms.
It still had 8mp camera working on most roms but sense was stripped so it made the battery life last a hell of alot longer also depends on the kernel. Also lack of eye candy
Other then that there good roms for battery life and kernels.
I also know several Sense based roms with the 3D carousel taken out. This causes a drastic performance increase. So the above poster is right. The eye candy of Sense causes it to use more RAM and processing power than an AOSP rom, in result, draining your battery faster.
Most people either love it or hate it.
Thanks. I'll look for one of these roms or a way to disable some of the sense features. I'm currently running SupraRom 2.0. And I'm pretty satisfied with it. I'm waiting on ICSense to be released or even AOSP. Thanks for clarifying things

What's the point of custom kernels for CM7/9?

This will likely be a controversial topic, but I'm going to risk it.
Also note that this is not meant to be a jab at kernel developers, or an attempt to lick CM developers' balls.
I have just been thinking. Custom kernels often claim an improvement in battery life or performance with their kernels. With Samsung ROMs, this is believable. The case of the fuel_alerted bug not being fixed with Samsung ROMs is an example that Samsung kernels aren't the best.
However, with Cyanogenmod ROMs you would think that the developers of CM would know best, since they *probably* work far more intimately with the code than custom kernel developers. Has anyone found an improvement in battery life with a custom kernel as compared to the stock CM kernel?
Now, I'm aware that custom kernels offer some features not found in the stock CM kernel, like how dual-booting is available for Siyah. But let's focus on battery life and performance for now.
Again, this is not meant to be a flaming thread. I genuinely wish for a conducive discussion on this topic. Lastly let me express my appreciation for both CM and Kernel developers, for devoting their own free time for our sakes.
Thanks!
I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for as an answer but a tweak i've used to give better battery performance is CPU FREQ_MIN. This is the frequency below which the 2nd core is not used. I don't believe you'd be able to use this tweak without a custom Kernel

It helps, thanks Personally I would prefer to try to quantify battery life with different kernels myself. Most phone review sites choose to test battery life by looping a video, however I do not believe this accurately measures battery life.
If anyone knows of an app that loops web browsing I will be happy to test it for myself.
I don't even care for extra 10 minutes battery life. If you want extra battery life don't use the phone. Lol.

But I bought the phone so that I can use it right?

Need kernel recommendation?

Ok so Im running steal's 25 badass latest rom, but my problem is my battery keeps draining real quick, I'm currently running a stock tiamat ICS kernel and I know kernels have usually a lot to do with battery life expectancy and phone speed. So i would like to know which kernel is so far the best and most stable for the HTC EVO 3d? Please and thanks.
Anthrax without a doubt is the best kernel you could use on your 3d
