[Q] OverClock - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it ok to OC my htc hero to 672Mhz using setCpu?
I am using SalsaSense 4.0 ROM
Thanks...

Totally okay I usually overclock to 691 or 710
Just play around with the different frequencies and see what suites your phone best. Even though every phone should be similar, they aren't, so what the phone can handle varies a bit

I usually overclock to 710mhz on salsasense

Thanks for your reply guys...
what the safe temperature for the cpu?

Now it is 729Mhz,and the temperature is 34.5c (about 95.5f).
It usually go up to 43c when I play games.

Mixing SetCPU + Voltage App

Would this cause CPU freezing/crashing
I tried undervolting even minimally and my phone crashes, regardless of the values
I'm perfectly willing to accept that I may have one of those unlucky devices that just can't handle it, however I just realized I've been mixing the too apps....could this potentially be causing CPU confusion, ultimately leading to crashes?

I doubt it I use both of tgem and nithing crashed maybe you phone cant handle overclock or ur settings try lowering them

No problem OCing, my phone loves being overcocked...oh, I mean clocked
Only problem is with UVing

Then probably undervolting too much... What settings u using?

ive tried as low as -25 across the board....it usually rides well for a while....but eventually leads to crashes

i would only recommend using 1 or the other.. (voltage app is best)
and -25ma across the board what do you mean?
1200
1120
1000
800
400
200
100?
your -25 on all of them?
cause if you read the threads supporting voltage app you will see to only change 5-7 profiles meaning...... dont do all of them... i keep only 4 of them under stock voltage.... as listed below (some phones cant handle the actual under volting NOT the over clocking.... and some cant do either)
1200: -25mv
1120: -25mv
1000: -25mv
800: -25mv
400: stock mv
200: stock mv
100: stock mv
i have been over clocking sense we got the kernels to do so... (i9000 kernels)
so if you need anymore help just pm me and i can help with a really good oc/uv set up or in your case just use setCPU its alot easier!
voltage app
which is the best governor for voltage app?
I had the same problem using both and thought it was my phone not liking oc with no uv but then I figured out by removing setcpu and only using voltage app that my phone was stable up to 1400. I have read many threads that state not to uv all freq's and not to use more than 5 states in the drawer. Also try to create the least voltage steps as possible and not to touch 800 cause thats where the phone us set to go to sleep and wake at which is critical. I think that set cpu and voltage asp conflict each other with scheduling, but I am not a dev so could not be sure.

I have used both. Set CPU sleep profile works beautifully paired with voltage control app.

[Q] CPU Question ?

I have the 2.1 siyah kernel and i left it in perfomance govener for a few hours by mistake is it ok too run 1.6ghz for a few hours stright
Actually SGS2 is too fast already and i see no need for OC at all
Anyway, i don't really know about that kernel, but i believe that at 1,6GHz it increases voltage which isn't too good thing and might reduce processors life time.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Unless you make 100% usage at 1.6 ghz for some straight hours, its not going to harm you and your mobile except your battery life
Heat is a cpus worst enemy. Also keep the voltage in mind when ocing. Your phone will only be running at 1.6 under full load so a couple of hours of max activity will get the phone hot and with heat come instability.

I dont know if it was running %100 cpu but it was at 1600mhz the whole time right now everything is ok but it seems to get slightly warm quick and runs 31 celius battrey but that might just be normal

How many people use LiveOC over stock OC System

Who prefers LiveOC over the regular OC system?
Just wondering.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I prefer to use voltage control and overclock the ol' fashioned way lol...I have played with nstools and live oc, but its more than I really need.

No heat?
Is this dangerous? With no overheat, is this dangerous? Are you using this day to day?
Didn't get into oc too much.

I tested it.
For a day or two.
But using my phone day to day.

enyo... I have tested with glitch kernel at 1.7 ghz and i currently hold the record benchmark for this device on antutu using performance governor. After testing for a half hour at that speed i fell asleep with the phone stuck at that speed. I'm typing this message with that phone now. That was done with glitch v13. The most i ever got from high clock speeds was freezes and reboots.
However, if you get stupid with live oc the story can be very different.
But to give an idea of what my phone handled back then, go to the cm7 glitch thread and check what the gpu/buss speed was at 1.7ghz. But remember that those bus/cpu speeds, and voltages were finely tuned by tk , and you probably won't be able to push that hard with live oc.

So just overclocking, @ 1.5GHz or 1.2GHz and, monitoring the temp, processor will last just as long as it would non overclocked?

It's all luck. Chance. Fate. If tk has not burned his phone yet i would say you have a lot of catching up to do to get the mileage he has. I had mine overclocked 1.5ghz for a few months.. And guess what, i have never monitored temp. But hey, i pay an extra couple dollars a month on top of insurance for lifetime warrantee. So i think my phone burning up would fall under that. But anyway, your stressing out to much over it.

Going to over clock to 1.5, not going to stress about it. Ulcers come like that

no heat and i use it daily...first time i can ever say this when overclocking to 1500. i agree with neh4pres posts...becareful with live oc it can screw your device up quick. most folks will never see any benifit by using live oc imo anyway. part of the reason why i just use vc...
I actually use 10% live oc and 1200mhz step... All voltages stock. Fully stable and it FLIES

I must have every bit of speed. That said here's the setup:
ICS AKOP 25 Glitch 14 B5 for 6.0
1200 step with 118 LOC
Glitch OnDemand with some OV and UV. (see pics)
Live OC is the way to go as you get a boost to your GPU and RAM in addition to the usual CPU bump.

thx a bunch for this nfo. just used ur voltage settings for my device and was able to overclock into the 1300mhz range from the 1200 step. im impressed since last time it was very unstable at 1200 for me.

with the devil kernel i have been running 102% loc between 200-1000mhz. on glitch i can oc up to 1500mhz with no loc, soon as i add any loc the device freezes. im guessing my leakage is not dialed in correctly for glitch, also i get a bit nervous playing wit arm voltages.

[Q] Cpu doesn't reach 1.4 ghz

Hey,
I got the galaxy for some days now, I installed better battery stats and for some reason I see in the Cpu states the from 1ghz and above all the bars are empty, and like the phone don't use them.. I tried to play angry birds and some other games and try to do quadrant test to see if it reach the higher Cpu speed, but with no help.
The maximum is 1ghz.
Does anybody knows something about it? Maybe android doesn't support it or something :/
Thanks, Elad

You have powersave enabled.
Go to settings -> powersave to set it.
Ok probably those frequencies are not used frequently so they became 0% in bbs. In Cpu spy I see them used for something like 16 seconds..
Thanks!

Why don't you try both and then see which one is better for you? Just use powersaver mode when doing heavy cpu load tasks (for example gaming) or set a lower cpu frequency cap. Tegra3 will always get hot under heavy load. the only thing you can do is cap cpu frequency/cores and/or undervolting (but i doubt undervolt will help as much as lower frequency cap).
