Qik Video Chat - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Regarding qik Video Chat, I believe the commercials advertised that this is available via wifi which is pretty lame (same as original facetime i believe). Does anyone know if this will become available on a normal data connection and if so will it be compatible across networks?

PS: Are you cooking up a rom for this one Mikey Mike?

Works over 3g (4g) for me and other people i talk to on at&t. Dont use qik lite though. Use the other one lite is wifi only. Also i have been testing tango and fring which i hear is better. With fring you can videochat with 4 people.

Skype works just fine for me too.

I would like to use video chat for ASL (sign language). In order to use it for signing, the hands need to not blur too much when moving. Can anyone recommend which of the video chat programs might be the best for that purpose? Thank you.

Qik video chat works over 3g for me.

Great info guys, thank you. Can anyone confirm it works across networks? Specifically ATT to TMOB. How is the quality compared to a web cam... Looking to keep up with the GF when away on business.

Video calls over 4G

Can anyone comment on the quality when video calling on 4G (Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt)?
(and state what app you used, Tango, Fringe, etc)
Ive only been able to try it with people on other carriers like sprint, which didnt work super well because (i think) they didnt have a good signal...
thanx
Danny
I use Tango with friends and family on Verizon, Sprint and AT&T with a variety of phones (Evo 4Gs, Samsung Captivates, Droid X, etc) and it has worked exceptionally well even on 3G, so I imagine over 4G it would be even higher quality.
I've tried out the skype video several times and the video/audio quality was fine. could receive everything all clear and was sending just the same. this was over 4g, not 3g.
If you are using skype then I assume you are rooted?
thanx for the response

Video call app

When I use Skype it is very choppy, am working away from home for 2 months and am wondering if there is a better quality video call app.
I have full hspa+ service well it says H beside the signal bars. Girlfriend is on a new computer, with high-speed internet.
Is there any tips to make it faster? Will oc help I am currently uc to 1.0?
Thanks,
From me and the girlfriend -

Yes underclocking will have a negative effect for Skype quality, and also network speed. If the WiFi available to you when you're away is faster than hspa+, than use WiFi instead. Also you might compare Tango voice and video calling from the market.

I'm in Alberta, no WiFi where I'm staying. Blows! 6gb of data's gonna go quick lol I oc and it did help substainly. Going to give tango a run and see how it goes thanks.

[Q] Apps For Calling and Texting?

I was wondering if there were any good "VoIP" apps? I've used TextPlus Gold and everything. And I was also wondering how would I setup my Google Voice account if my Player isn't a phone? Any help and suggestion is appreciated. Thanks
I use mobilevoip. My dad and I useit for cheap calling and free to housephones (i think thats the word?)
For texting i use whatsapp. Wish i could use google voice though, but it's for usa only...

If you are on the US or Canadia, you can use GrooveIP for free calls for the remaining of this year using your Google Voice account with it.
I think you can find GrooveIP for free on the Amazon App Store.
For text, the same App, or just Google Voice.
To text internationally for free, Heywire.
I've tried to use heywire, but when i open it, it stays all time in the screen with the logo and it does nothing...

apps for call/text
Hey iLoveAndroid13,
for calling use Bobsled Calling... its a REALLY GOOD APP... by the way, I use the Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 US Version and it works good for me.
and for texting... just use TextPlus, there's nothing bad in it, but its only good use for you if you want to text to US/Canada.
I heard Whatsapp Messenger is good too.. but its not compatible with my device.
Anyhow, I used to use GrooveIP but stopped because the quality is bad.
Hope I helped!
I tried all these apps but they are for USA and Canada only. Heywire is not supported in my country.

You Don't unless you have a GV account. And unfortunately for people living outside North America, there are no "free" options that i know of. You can however, if your country is supported, get a "paid" number from Skype and make very low cost calls.
I'm in Canada and we just got a free app called "Dell Voice" which gives you a free "local" number with which you can make unlimited local calls and unlimited long distance calls to any cellphone/landline to most areas in Canada. And Dell Voice to Dell Voice is always free anywhere in the world.
With a little gadget named gmate (skyroam) connectted to Samsung Galaxy Player we can make regular phone cell Calls, send and received SMS and enjoy GPRS/EDGE Internet conecction anywhere.

Based on the specs of this device - while fine for text and light browsing, it would be poor for making/receiving calls. You need at least 3G Data - preferably 4G speed for quality calls.

For me Really works great on making and receiving calls on normaly cellular net, because the Gmate its a mini Cell Phone without screen and keypad that uses Bluetooth link for transmit and received signal with player.
in two weeks of use, I have not experienced any problems of quality in my calls
and when I say none is none

With all due respect, that's why you buy a cell phone as the Galaxy Note
this device is to use the Player as a phone and not really uncomfortable carried it

I know but sometimes i give to my friends the player so they can play and i go to do other stuff.
And if i forget to take it with me so i wont have a phone.
And if i want to take it so i can surf in internet or something like that and i walk from this device more than 10 meters i cant recieve any calls.
Or if you go to the bathroomthat are more than 10 meters distance and the player is on your desk you wont recive calls.
If they were doing it really small so i can put it in my galaxy case or make a device that is connect to the the player it was great because than you always recive calls.
Its really great idea but its not so comfortable to make the device be all the time near the player

Hello
Maybe your country has better edge data networks than others because here in Canada, edge is only good for light browsing. Also, most edge providers block any voip action. Which is why i don't recommend purchasing this if it only supports edge data networks.
Here is something similar i can get in Canada that gives you faster speeds than edge - shop.windmobile.c a/ProductCatalog/Handsets/DatastickDetails.aspx?id=Huawei%20E583(WINDCA)

[Q] DELL VOICE QUALITY OVER 3/4g

Hey guys I'm a pretty new member but I want to save on my phone bills by using a flextab from bell on my sg3 and I like Dell voice because you can port your number. Anyone find the voice calls over cellular networks absolutely horrible compared to wifi? I was wondering if there's a fix for this or somehow a way to make my phone think it's on wifi even though it isnt; if that would even help.
Thanks!
By the way I'm in Canada so Google voice isn't an option for me

What version are you using currently? They seem to have released a new version that says it has better call quality. I have an SIII on Rogers and the quality is pretty good with the new update. It uses about 32kbps up and 32 kbps down so any decent 3G connection should be able to handle the calls. What is bad about the voice?
Also, since you are using Bell you have no EDGE fall back option, which it doesn't work very well on. Where I live, all I get reliably is EDGE so I have to rely on my WiFi for calling. When I'm in the city though I have had some long conversations without too much issue.

[Q] Best Video Call App to iPhone 5?

Basically i own the One X+ on ATT here in the states and my wife owns the new iPhone 5. We have both never done video calling before so new to this. Just want your guys' input in what app is best for our two phones to video call each other over both 4g/3g network and wifi. We only have wifi at home so on the go would be using mainly 4g as we luckily live in an area where 4g is everywhere.
I've tried Tango but even with 4 bars on 4g network the video quality was kind of crappy and choppy. We were even just 10ft away from one another to try it out and still choppy, not very clear video calling.
Basically what's the best app for quality in the video call over 4g and wifi? I would assume all apps would work great over a good wifi connection but we are on the go a lot so will depend more on 4g connectivity over the ATT network.
Haven't tried the famous Skype app yet as the best reviews doing research all point to Tango. Just not impressed at all with the Tango video quality over Skype.
If it helps my device is rooted and running Elegancia custom rom. My wife is stock iPhone software.
Skype,tango,gtalk,Google plus
Sent from my HTC One X+
same situation
my fiancee has the iphone 5 and i have the hox+. we use skype, and it does just fine. it seems to work a little better on my end than the iphone end.
OoVoO
I use OoVoO
It's free app and also works great with 3G or 4G also
And it has desktop software too
so you can call on computer also (Just like Skype) .... isn't it great.....
