I think the htc ruby from telus which is the amaze will get att 3g bands. If you are looking for subsidized phone you are out of luck.

Telus uses 850/1900 and I believe AT&T does as well, you're get their 3G and High Speed Data if you purchase Telus's model and unlock it. However you're f*cked on the price because the Amaze most likely will be pretty damn expensive off contract.

True , & yes it'll be $599 without a contract .

Any high end phone off contract will be $550 - $600...and definitely nexus prime will be in the same range.

According to fact sheet from tmo. it looks like amaze supports att 3g network
Quad-band 4G UMTS/HSPA+ 42 (Bands I, II, IV & V)
i.e. 850/1700 AWS/1900/2100

AT&T Confirmed!
Happy to say YES.. I unlocked an Amaze tonight, put the AT&T SIM in, changed the APN and the display says 4G (pic attached). Not sure if it is true 4G but I would assume at least 3G!!!

Hi Pj, why are you selling yours? I saw it on ebay.

hey - i cycle thru phones way too often (look at my ebay history). I love the amaze but I also just got the iphone4s (gasp!) and i am really digging it. Plus, seeing if i could get HSPDATA on the Amaze turned into a challenge foe me..

[Q] Samsung 4G

How do you think the Samsung Charge will stack up to the competition? Not that exciting next to other Verizon upcoming LTE enabled devices? Or better than the rest?
Its a galaxy s with a better screen. It has the same internals. The thunderbolt has a better processor and a decent screen. The bionic is going to be a dual core monster and the sgs2 will be out later with the best of all worlds. The charge is a last generation smart phone with a new screen. I wouldnt put my money on it winning any contests.

Do we know if SGS2 will have LTE modem in it? I hope it does, but the only confirmed model of SGS2 is for AT&T currently. SGS2 4G will make my year.

Well there is a screen shot somewhere showing SGS2 coming to VZW but thats not a lot to go on. Still, I can't imagine they would ignore the VZW market. Likely they will just be months behind, the way the fascinate was to the captivate

This generation is different, though. Verizon, and only Verizon, is pursuing LTE for its next-gen data -- since EVDO sucks and is deeply limited. And since Voice over LTE (VoLTE, which is why I guess all the Verizon 4G phones have the lightning motif) doesn't exist yet and you need 1x and 3G data for full coverage anyway, this means that Verizon models will need two separate radios instead of just being able to swap the GSM chip for the CDMA chip. LTE is even bulkier than WiMax, because it requires a SIM card and MIMO as well.
So while AT&T and T-Mo (if the latter continues to exist) will get something basically equivalent to the SGS2, Verizon and Sprint will end up with a bigger form factor -- like the Epic or Charge. And we'll have to wait a while this time too.
AT&T is going to HSPA+ short term for "4G" and LTE is their long term plan, so they'll need the same LTE radio as VZW phones when they decide to start up their LTE network and phones/devices.
I'm waiting.
If I go 4G, I want more than just 4G. I want dual core, good battery, front camera, better screen, hdmi out, etc.
Since LTE is so new, I may wait a year anyways. I may pick up the Sony Xperia Play so I can have the latest Android with all the above except 4G while adding real game controls.

I am right there with ya. I don't really like sprint's coverage and yes, within the last few weeks, it has been even worse than I remember in the past and the 4g has been almost useless in the NYC areas as I live in northern NJ. I have an at&t account on my SGSII and their coverage is great. Bottom line is, I may be picking this bad boy up when it comes out!!

I hear ya. I left AT&T for the EvO4G and stayed bc I get a nice discount & wanted the E3D. My friend has the iPhone4 and we both did a speed test earlier...He was pulling 1.2mbps down while I was struggling to hit 800kbps. Then I was down on Jerome Ave in the BX where I had full bars of 4G and only getting 2.0mbps down. WTF?!?
If I give this phone back and use the money to cancel...I have no clue where I'll go. Between lackluster phones on other carriers and tier plains...It's getting out of hand!
*EDIT* Did I mention the iPhone4 doesn't even have HSPA+. Yea...it gets worse. Ridiculous!
lol fml... i gave up my unlimited data plan that ive had for 4 years on att to jump ship to spring SPECIFICALLY for this phone, then they do this. sprints service blows and now im going to be stuck with them for a while. if another good non sprint phone comes out i may just bite the bullet and pay the early cancellation.
just go now before your 30 days are up.
att would probably love to have you back.
eww with at&t prices..not even their DSL is good. i had to cut a tree for good signal..switched to time warner and i have had sprint for a longgg time like 9 years.
I don't know how your guys data sucks so bad I get far better speeds than anything ATT puts out. I also have a far cheaper unlimited plan than anything ATT can offer. My last speed tests at home had 2.1mbps on 3g an 10mbps down in 4G.
I've had ATT service before, ill never have it again. Their customer service, prices, and average local coverage just make them laughable to me. If you go that route good luck, because around my parts unlimited data doesn't exist and I'm not about to pay crazy overages. I easily use between 7 and 10 gb a month with out tethering.
With the dependency on data for these phones increasing any plan that limits your data is crazy.

Here in northern Colorado I get 1.0 - 1.3mb 3G down speeds with 4G around 10mb down. BUT there are some areas its Horrible. With roaming only. Not long back I know there was a company that Sprint had a deal with on using there towers for more coverage. But Verizon Bought that company and didnt give sprint the same deal.

[Q] Really no LTE or does AT&T not know how to advertise?

I have an Infuse and plan to stay with it until it comes off contract, but I looked at the SGSII page on AT&T's website and it says 4G HSPA+... Really? Is it really only HSPA+? Or does AT&T want to repel all customers by advertising a Ferrari as having a 20HP Ford engine?
LTE is on a different model and comes out later. This one is HSPA+ only.
I'm glad it doesn't have LTE. I like having a reasonably sized phone with good battery life.
Haven't you noticed that Verizon customers are screwed? They get a choice of outdated underpowered phones, or battery-hogging fatties that provide no speed benefits for a significant portion of the population. In fact, apparently many of Verizon's LTE phones don't work well at all in non-LTE service areas.
I won't see LTE anywhere near where I live for years (probably not until my next upgrade cycle at least) so I'm glad this doesn't have LTE.

No, it does not have LTE. LTE on AT&T is only available in a very small amount of cities. However, AT&T is not good at advertising just as you are not good at researching....

And the presence of icons means nothing. A lot of frameworks are designed in a generic manner to ease software maintenance. We've got bootsplashes for Korean devices in our param.lfs for example.

Because by marketing regulations, AT&T can call their HSPA+ network 4G.
I'm surprised no one's complaining about TMO's less competent HSPA+ network.
Its just how oil companies can market their stuff as full synthetic as long as they have an X% of synthetic oil in overall volume.

At$t also has not finished the backhaul on its Hspa+ network, so most places do not even get that.
But the nice thing about hspa+ once it is done everyone will have access to a 21mbps network, that is pretty damn fast.
The no lte does not bother me a bit considering At$t hasn't even completed their +hspa.

No, the LTE version just entered field testing. It is different sized phone and uses a different CPU (1.5Ghz Qualcomm vs 1.2GHz Exynos) as well. So, there will not be a mix up.
I guess the way AT&T advertises is they write 4G in bold letters with a star which says 4G speeds by HSPA Network.

Is LTE even that much faster than H+'s 21mbps? I don't see the point of getting an LTE phone for that extra speed while it drains your battery. How much speed do you really need to play Words with Friends? I'll stick with H+ phones

[Q] Will I ever get to use LTE?

Is the ability to use 4g LYE in the software or hardware of the phone? I have an LTE sim card that came with my htc vivid, but as I understand (which isn't much), I will have to wait for an update or custom ROM that includes an LTE radio. I've also read that LTE phones have different modules in which case I would never get to use it on my i777. This phone is great and there's no way I'm trading it in for a Skyrocket just for LTE when everything else it's so much better on the i777.

OP question answered. Search was not engaged. Thread closed.

Is LTE actually worth it?

I have an i9100 right now and run data on the non-smartphone unlimited plan. I've only had the i9100 since October, but I'm thinking of eBay'ing it and getting the S3.
My question is, would I be better served to wait for the AT&T version so I could get LTE or just get the i9300, live with slower non-wifi speeds and enjoy a new, unlocked, unfettered phone?
AT&T prevented the One X from unlocking their bootloader; to me, that already says enough.

LTE is great! But you need to weigh it against the cost of having it.
In no short order, to obtain LTE on AT&T, you must:
Give up the incredible Exynos quad.
Deal with ATT bloat.
Deal with ATT hard-branding.
Deal with ATT redesign (likely losing the physical home button).
Deal with ATT kernels/firmware and potentially locked down components.
Have less dev support (international versions always attract more devs-- myself included).
Be locked into using only ATT (or paying for a SIM unlock code).
Deal with (usually much) slower official OS updates and patches.
Know that you're "in the system" at ATT because they have your IMEI.
Deal with having no idea when the device is actually going to be released.
I'm sure I missed some.
So, how badly do you really want a faster cell connection?
Hopefully that helps you.

Great points, makes me feel even better about importing the S3 esp since this will be my first time doing so.
Also, a few have mentioned you can downgrade your data plan to medianet and save $ since the Int. S3's IMEI won't be in the ATT database & it's not considered a "smart" phone.
I will be happy to have the "home" button back since using my ATT Note that lacks it.

If you go with that media net plan do you still get 3G speed - Hspa speed ? Or what ?
Sent from my GALAXY.

Yes, and yes HSPA+ which is being called 4G but is not LTE. Have LTE on my Note and while it's fast it sucks the life out of a battery. Will not give up quad core just to be on a LTE Bloated devices.
I usually get 1 or 2 down and right around 1 up which is more than fast enought to stream videos, internet works great, etc. Not that it matters to me anyways because my LTE connection speed is zero, there is no LTE in my area and it appears it is still several years away. Makes it a no brainer really... lol
Once you go LTE its kinda hard to go back to HSPA+
if you have wifi constantly its a no brainer.
Able to surf the web and stream HD videos on the road is very satisfying.
that's why Im so torn if i should get the unlock or wait for the LTE version.

Also, if you want to go there, LTE is not true 4G either.

I disagree, personally. I had my Note LTE for a few months that I just sold last week and have since been using the HSPA+ Atrix until the S3 is released. The LTE was great, mind you, and sometimes I had speeds up to ~50 down. Honestly though, the HSPA+ speeds I'm getting now are noticeably slower, but only when I'm actually downloading something. Really, that's usually only podcasts and app updates anymore, and the speed difference in the end usually nets to an extra ~10-15 seconds of waiting. I have zero issues streaming HD video and music to my phone with HSPA+, so the LTE would literally do nothing for me in that case (except for perhaps consuming more battery).
With data caps, it's even less of an issue. You wouldn't want to be downloading any large files over the cell network in either case, so you'll end up on WiFi for that stuff whether you're LTE-equipped or not.
Furthermore, the LTE radios right now are so power-hungry that I wasn't very comfortable using it on my Note. You actually use a lot less power with your WiFi radio ON.
Put that all together and weigh it against the benefits of importing the international variant. For me personally, that's the "no-brainer."
To me its not for a couple reason, 1.) We dont have LTE where I live 2.) Only time I use data is to send picture/video messages otherwise I'm always wireless. Also agree with everyone else on the ATT front, they really do ugly the thing up. I'd also rather have a quad-core than LTE. I'm a hardware over network guy.

All good now?

Err, it's hardly 3.99G when 4G mandates 1Gbps and LTE can still fall into the "single digit Mbps".
Well were I live LTE is about 8mbs up/down on AT&T and H+ is 3-5mbs down and 1 up so no big deal for me. That non RGB 720p screen is, but I am still thinking about it.
I was on ATT before with 3G before, but not LTE and I haven't looked at their plan for a while. Can someone explain to me:
When you sign up for their LTE plan, do you get 3G also or no?
If no, can you also buy 3G and how much more is it?
If you can't have 3G free with LTE I think its not so good, especially if you are not living in a well coverage area, which 3G still has a wider coverage.

your phone will toggle between 4gLTE -4G-3g-and Edge. but 85 percent of the time my Note is on LTE.
if your area has LTE why would WANT to buy 3g as well......lol

Thats my point, what if you have an LTE phone and your area don't have LTE, or you go out of town to an area without LTE, and you have no 3G plan. You'll be stuck with 2G.
