any ideia how we can do this?
Yes, I think it is possible now.
I've done it on my Vizio tab after the root.
Original idea came from the Nook Color people.

weird, it works with my galaxy nexus and HTC sensation without root....
Hi
Just to inform that there is an alternative process, more automatic, to have ad-hoc connection between smartphone and our tablet.
You need to have root, install BusyBox and with WiFi Ad Hoc enabler you can enable the ad-hoc feature.

Yes. I use wifi tether in my phone to share Internet and have installed both applications.

Is there a modded Sprint Wifi Hotspot apk for the Photon 4G that can be used to tether to tablets like the iPad, Touchpad, Xoom, etc in infrastructure mode instead of adhoc mode?
Those apps like Wifi Tether and Barnacle in the android market do not work since they use ad hoc mode. Those apps connect to laptops fine but not tablets.
I believe this may help you out. Maybe, maybe not. Hopefully.

It says "ad hoc" mode right in the first paragraph. So, no, it won't work for the OP's purpose. I'm looking for infrastructure mode as well, but there seems to be no solution available yet.
The xoom had a wpa_supplicant that supports adhoc. Adhoc works natively for the asus eee pad transformer with the most recent ota.

Yes, but since they are so customizable I thought that was something you could disable.
Hello! So I did look but I didn't really find the answer (unless I overlooked it, and if so please point me in that direction!) With Wifi Tether can you use the infrastructure mode (I think that's the right one) on the stock Kernel and ROM? Rooted of course. Basically I want to get online with my PS3.
Thank you very much for your responses!

If you connect to the wifi network with your ps3 you should be able to have internet access on the ps3. Is that what you mean?
Edit/add: with the stock kernel it works. In the Wifi tether app go to menu>settings>change Device-Profile>EVO 3D.
Use this Wifi tether app. It works for me. WiFi Tether

Ok thank you. I had the Epic before and the stock kernel would only allow adhoc mode which doesnt work with the PS3.

So now that we have permroot, is there a wireless tether app that works? I tried the one here:
http://www.jonamerica.com/technology/the-htc-rezound-root-guide/
But although it starts, I don't see the ssid on my laptop. I think perhaps infrastructure doesn't work with that. I'd prefer to avoid ad-hoc.
So has anyone had success with a particular market or apk for wireless tether?
Thanks in advance!

Ive tried a couple versions of the usual Wireless Tether.apk, but I still only get wep as an option. Trying to find a way to get WPA2 to work.
I am using "Wireless Tether for Root Users" V2.0-7 and its working perfectly. None of the newer beta versions have worked correctly for me so far..
It seems to work in ad-hoc mode only though... but it works fine for me. I'm not using WPA either, I just leave it open with access control turned on.
Barnacle
I'm using Barnacle Wireless Tether from the app store and it's working EXCELLENT. Even brings over the 4G speed but is also working in Ad-hoc mode.

Whats not working? The link or the app?
If its the link then try a differnet browser.
If its the app then make sure you go to settings and select MS Routing and Clamping. Something like that anyways...

Its not even showing up in wifi analyzer on another device as putting a signal out.

No wifi modes work in infrastructure on the rezound is my understanding. Adhoc only.
---------- Post added at 07:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:33 PM ----------
Tried the following:
Old Wireless Tether
New Wireless Tether
Barnacle
None will work. No signal comes out at all. The data counter will get to like .4kB and just freeze.
Yea, but i read that new wireless tether beta app, the dev was wanting to get it where it can support infrastructure mode, but only a few phones would be worked on....idk if its still in the works or not...

Not sure what to tell you... I tried 3 versions, they all worked for me - IF I did not turn on encryption.
If I turn on encryption, none of them work.

Yeah, I had no issues at all with WiFi tether. It has worked on every single android device I have ever had. Optimus, Evo 4G, Evo 3D, and the Rezound. I have tried every single version he has made to boot! Never had any issues.
Could it be the device looking for the hook is not seeing it because its ad-hoc on here?

Some devices do and some dont detect ad-hoc networks. Until we get a custom kernel capable, and software to manipulate it, we're stuck with ad-hoc only, which works for like, 95% of devices that would need to connect to it.
Do iPads connect?

Hi everyone, im looking for a ad hoc enabler for my phone to be able to connect to my pc's internet via ad hoc. I use a broadband usb modem to connect to internet on my pc so i obviously dont have wifi at home. Using usb internet pass through is quite annoying as i must have a usb cable connected to my phone the whole time. so can anyone recommend a 100% working app for me?

What is your OS on your PC? I know Windows has the ability to create an ad hoc network using the wifi card of the PC. No special app needed. Go to the Network control panel, click Add, and select Ad Hoc network.

sooo how did it go? there are a few apps out there with this feature but if it fails it will mess up the wifi. im looking for a 100% working on evo 3d gsm app so i dont have to deal with fixing the wifi problem.
would you be so daring enough as to try installing WiFi Ad Hoc enabler v1.8 and see if it works? LOL im scare it might mess up my wifi and i have no idea how to fix it.

I stumbled across this accidentally while searching for an internet passthrough .apk:

Turns your windows 7 computer into a WiFi hotspot.
Works Great! Seems faster than internet passthrough.
I never knew windows 7 had this capability. Cool.
so there is no need for internet passthrough anymore.

Lool honestly im not i just dont see the point of updating my barely useable laptop anyways, forgot to update here. I used zt ad hoc switcher and got my phone to detect ad hoc, surprised both wifi ad hoc enabler and manually overwrite wpa_supplicant failed but this app works fine.

Due to lack of SIM card, I know I can't share the internet connection. What I want to do is to create a LAN.
It is possible, right?
I havd tried to install on off tool from my Xperia V, and add a widget on desktop. I successfully turned on the WiFi hotspot, but I can't set something like SSID, Password.
