[Q] Broken mini-usb Help Needed - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok from all the flashing (i guess thats my drug habit ) i have seem to have dislodged the mini usb slot. Yes i have tried everything to get it to work (aside from taking it apart to try soldering it back) but to no avail. I called viewsonic and they seemed very happy to help me even tho i couldnt even read my serial number (underneath the skinomi and forgot to write it down . I was wondering if anyone had experience with returns and if their picky about the flashing, (currently have gtabcomb on it) and if they are picky could someone test it out if i could flash to stock BL1.2 from gtabcomb 3.3 BL1.2 w/CWmod without nvflash?
Thanx
P.s. Sorry if posted in wrong place as i do realize this a question.
PPSS Just got sent the usual US Merchants products to buy sheet with the return details email and saw this on the bottom??

woah! someone please explain!

Yes you can install 4349 via cwm using an update package. Don't remember where I got it but I put a copy in my Dropbox. Here's the link http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36150173/update-smb_a1002-4349-user.zip. I'll leave it there a couple of days. If anyone else needs it and can't find elsewhere just PM me.
Al

I did this too and opened it up and looks like the inside connector got pushed back and the pins got a little messed up so now it works sometimes and sometimes doesnt. Is there any way we can just get a replacement port and resolder? If so where would one get that part?

Thanks for the link, ya I think Im gonna take my chances and try that, even if it doesnt boot after than they can fix that too or send it back to me not booting, just as long as the mini-usb's working.

They have a good article about replacing similar mini-usb's on Hack A Day but it seems like a pain to replace them. Plus this is normal use so its totally under the warranty.

Parts can be bought on flybay for cheap, but soldering is not for every Joe guy ... Not that hard but you will need a fine tools

I just posted this link over in the QA section also, but take a look at this. It should be the correct USB header that you snapped off your tablet. If you're down to attempt a solder job go for it. http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/896-43-005-00-100001/ED90342TR-ND/1873755

Above is a decent place to get these kind of parts. Just be careful in the removal stage and use solder wick. Make sure you leave the traces intact and don't use much force (don't pry it off) let the wicking do the work and slowly lift it while still heated.
Fosser2 above has done a lot of work on the guts.

update
Well i finally got it back today and booted it up in under 10 seconds i was damn impressed. I'm use to over a minute with all my stuff jammed in there.
Anyways they fixed it with no questions asked and flashed it also.
Im gonna play with the tap-n-tap for awhile till it pisses me off lol
Thanx for the help guys
Ps
Its seems just total stock but if anyone wants me to dump it let me know.

[Q] My Gtablet Is Acting Funny

Hey There, There are some problems with my gtab- 1>My Brother Droped it twice and its been kinda okay. And A couple of days later it wouldnt charge unless i move the charging cable in a funny way. Im 10. Im wondering about calling viewsonic and nvflashing it. I dont think i can return it though because my uncle bought it. Is there a way i can fix it? Can i RMA it i dont know how btw . Im BootLoader 1.2 Need More info? Email [email protected] or comment. Im running flashback 10.1
Sounds like the port soldering came loose
This sounds like what happened to me before. I had to have the port solder back in. If you can find a dock, you can also charge your tablet using it. There is a thread which goes into this and even one which shows details of opening the tablet up. Try using the forum search to find it. Do not try this unless you have electronics training.
As many times as this has come up we need to get all of these instructions together in the general area and make it a sticky thread (pin it).
Good luck.
I think i should buy a dock. Whered i get onw?

Back from repair : no more random reboots but dock not working !

So I sent my Atrix for repair as I couldn't stand the random reboots. It came back unfixed. I sent it again, this time warning Motorola that I wouldn't be ok with it coming back unfixed again and so it got back finally fixed.
However, the phone doesn't recognize the multimedia dock anymore ! Media center through HDMI works fine but not the dock : the phone doesn't charge nor does the audio work through the speaks I plug the dock to.
Do you think this is a software issue or an hardware one, something they messed up while repairing it.
If I have to send it one more time, I'll go nuts...
Thanks !

I'd guess that those things worked when it left, but not when it came back, that it would be a hardware issue if the software was unchanged. Just a thought though, do you have any mods installed or are you running a pure stock ROM?
Maybe they've noticed CM7 is better than their stock and they flashed CM7. :highfive:

In that case I would say it's very likely that they broke something else. Their Facebook staff may be able to put you in touch with someone who can help as well as they seem to have access to people that the CSR's don't, or they may just delete your post. Motorola's Facebook did have a large number of complaints regarding issues with repairs a couple months ago, but they suddenly disappeared, most likely due to trying to do damage control (reputation management). There's also their forums, where the discussion of anything other than stock functionality is pretty much taboo. But yes, if it worked before, it should work now.

Was it sent in on warranty or did you pay to have it fixed. Either way I feel for you because I know I sent my 2 atrixes in total of 3 times and even though they were fixed/replaced under warranty I still paid about $45 shipping in the end. Everyone on atrix forums keeps praising motorola build quality but I have failed to see it in mine or my wife's atrixes.

I think we're starting to see quite a few cases of storage related failures. I am a bit perplexed as what some consider to be qualifying characteristics of "build quality" myself.

I myself see having to send them in on hardware issues within the 1st year as poor build quality. A new replacement they sent me froze on GPS then would not boot past moto screen as if it bricked itself. Was replaced with another new one after another 15$ I paid for shipping
I think some think USA company means quality. My new atrixes shipped from Mexico
Yeah, I'll have to pay to send it back again as well...
Do you think it's worth trying to flash a custom rom to see if it "fixes" it ?
Thanks.

No, because it's likely that they would use that in order to blame you for whatever is wrong with the device. If it's a hardware issue, no amount of third party software is going to fix it. I would however try to get in contact higher up in the chain of command regarding the issue. It's one thing to ship a device with a defect, it's another thing to have to ship the same device back and forth continuously to get it fixed. And the sad part is that this is just one of many similar stories regarding repairs. I guess that "New Motorola" just isn't quite so new after all.

I would do a factory reset in recovery. My wife's came back with same issues it was sent in with. They replaced the screen for her. The proximity sensor still wasn't working right someone recommended factory reset from recovery. It fixed it for her. Before that I knew nothing about stock recovery

Yes but sometimes people don't realize there is more than one way to do a factory reset on stock. Until about a year ago I thought you could only do this through settings. Recovery is the best way I now know
A good tutorial for that ?
'Cause that's what I meant when I asked if flashing a custom ROM would help : can it be something that isn't properly setup at a software level ? I tried flashing the stcok rom again with RSDLite but it didn't delete any data so I'm not sure it really reset anything.
Thanks !

You mean a guide to factory reset the device in recovery? I thought that was in the manual, but it isn't, although I did find it here.
So I did a factory reset from Recovery, which worked as all was wiped. However, still no luck with the dock.
The reason I asked if trying to install a custom rom was a good idea is because I'm wondering if flashing another Webtop version or the HDMI-hack could make it work. To be clear : do you think that the fact that the Factory Reset didn't work establishes that it's hardware issue ?

As you're able to attach the HDMI and this works are you sure it's not the dock that's faulty? Had a quick look around and came across this... http://www.atrixforums.com/forum/mo...my-hd-multimedia-dock-useless-without-tv.html also, have you tried to clean ect connectors/ports. Might be worth a try
I should try again but I have two docks and the other one doesn't work either. However, I do feel that the AC connector doesn't feel really stable when inside the dock..it just moves around. I'd have to try with the the other's dock AC cable but it's an UK one and I need an adapter.
The thing is that the dock wasn't touched while the phone was under repair so I don't see how it can break just like that.
As I stated before, connection through HDMI to a TV-set works fine as well as charging with the power cord.
EDIT : saw the link you shared and it feels like the exact same issue indeed !
Well, it's fixed...kinda.
I unlocked it and flashed the "fixed webtop addon" from CSROM. It still wasn't working but with it, I got that the message saying that the device was not in charge anymore when I disconnected from the dock, which it didn't before; it wasn't charging however.
I don't think that was relevant but then I decided to give a look at the dock again and removed the top of it and...tadaaa, it worked ! From what I understand, the dock's connectors were not entering the the phone's inputs enough. I still think it's because they ****ed up during repair but heck, I won't send it back for that...
Good to hear you got it working

[Q] Amaze got wet. Need help.

My girlfriend liked my HTC Amaze and bugged me until I bought her one. It was a used Amaze I found on Craigslist. It has worked fine for almost a year. She's been having some really weird problems with it and I was planning to dig into fixing it for her. HOWEVER, night before last she dropped the dang phone in a cup of soda. She did get it out almost immediately and took it apart and dried everything off. I'm not too sure she let the phone dry very long, I wasn't there.
Now the phone boots just fine and all the apps appear to work. However, it gets NO BARS. It doesn't matter where we are. I can have 5 bars and 4G connection and her phone shows nadda. So we took the phone in to T-Mobile for some help. The guy was a lot of help and spend a lot of time working with the phone. He even switched sim cards. But eventually he discovered that the phone has been rooted. DANG!!!! So that got dropped quick. Now I have to figure this out for myself.
I really need some suggestions. Obviously the antenna has been affected, right? I have done my research and have learned that the phone actually connects to the back cover to obtain a connection. So I will be double checking that as soon as I get my hands on the phone again. What else should I do?
The android version is now v2.?. We've been trying to update it to v4 and it never would download. Now we know why. I want to restore the phone back to the stock configuration and upgrade the OS but there's no use in that unless I can take care of the connection problem.
Please, please, please someone help me. Otherwise I'll have to go out and buy a new Galaxy III for her. I can't afford that right now.

lol your title sounds a lil hahaha anyway all the signal antenna's are in the back door so try a new backdoor?? mite work ther're plenty in ebay
You can try a new back cover, but tbh, my guess is that it's probably not the problem. When it got wet it probably shorted something out or something. You have to take the battery out immediately, every .01 seconds count. And i wouldnt put the battery back in for like 2 days. Whenever mine gets wet I take out the battery then I try and suck out all of the water or whatever liquid out of the device as I can. Then ill let it sit in the sun for a while. I always waut at least 24 hourse before putting it back I

Yeah, that's certainly what I would have done. Unfortunately I wasn't there when it happened. She claims she immediately got it out. But she was falling asleep when it fell in so I really don't know. She did immediately take it apart and dry it off. But I don't think she was so anxious about it she put it back together to see if it would work. That probably did more damage than getting it wet in the first place.
We both have the same phone. I took the back off my Amaze and still have a good signal. It may have dropped one bar but not completely. It may get a boost on the signal from the back cover but it still works without. So I agree it probably is not going to be fixed by simply replacing the back cover. I'm going to stick my back cover on it this evening just to see what happens, but I think I know.
I am going to research the possibility of replacing the antenna completely. It seems the next logical option. I may also go ahead and take it further apart just to give it the opportunity to dry out. We'll see.
Any further comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You are absolutely right!! LOL.. If it weren't for the cost of replacing the danged thing I would still be laughing. Why is it she wants ME to replace it and hasn't even suggested that SHE should be the one to replace it THIS TIME?????? She is on one of those pay as you go accounts. We were ready to set her up with a 2-year deal just to find they don't exist at T-Mobile any more. You pay full price for any phone now regardless of what sort of account you set up. I don't see doing that for quite a while.
I may be searching eBay for a replacement phone. But I'd like to try a few options with this one first.

if she dropped it in soda, get some rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. clean the contacts very thoroughly. the soda is sticky and can prevent proper contact,
also clean the SIM card contacts on both the card and the phone.
Working Now
I cleaned the back of the phone and the cover this morning with rubbing alcohol then stuck my SIM and SD cards in the phone this morning and turned it on. To my amazement it is now working. What a great sigh of relief!!!!! I have heard nothing but moaning and groaning over this cheap phone I bought my girl until I could resolve this.
So it's off to phase 2 of this adventure. According to the T-Mobile store this phone has been rooted. I've read about it but I know close to nothing about rooting phones. There seems to be as many DIY pages describing how to root or restore a cell phone I am a bit reluctant to get started.
What do I need to look for in restoring this phone? Do I have to find the restore file that matches the Android version on the phone or can I just get the absolute latest one? Which one of these abundance of instructional should I be looking for? What is this about S-On/S-Off? It seems to be important. How do I actually check to verify that this phone has been rooted? I'm just going by someone's comments here.
I'd like to get this completed today. I'm expecting SIGNIFICANT appreciation this evening if I can hand her a working smart phone!!!!
My most enthusiastic and humble appreciation to those who responded. :good:
Been doing some investigations. The phone has super user installed in the aps. It also has 4ext installed. I let the phone download the latest ICS but the install failed.
According to "most" off the forums I have read all I have to do is place the stock image on the root of the external SD card and reboot. Is there anything else I need to worry about?

If you are hardbricked there is a solution by swapping out the MotherBoard

If you are like me and can not get fastboot or recovery, you can only get into APX mode. If you want to get your device back running there is a way. There are two items you will need.
#1 a case opening tool
#2 a TF201 motherboard
First you should search around to purchase
Asus Transformer Prime TF201 Tablet Motherboard 0K0AMBA000 69NAZAM19B05 <-- that is the motherboard
Then purchase a case opening tool and watch the videos on opening the prime, it is not that hard and takes less than 5min easy.
Then swap out your old board for the one you purchased and power it up.
I did this to mine I was backup in less than 30min.
Just watch lots of videos so you are familiar with the inner parts of the 201.
I hope this helps some of you, hit me up with any questions....
Like you I also hard bricked my prime. I have taken the leap and purchased a replacement board, just wondering if it was as simple as replacing the board and booting up and you are then back to where you left off, ROM/setting wise. Or was a re flash of some sort required??

Good question and I was worried about that as well. I bought my MB from a ebay seller that had a bunch and said tested. What I was told is the OS is already installed on the board, so I felt less worried that this will turn out to be a big job.
I cracked the case open.
Removed the ribbon cables that go to the display.
Removed the battery
Removed the MB
Re installed in reverse order and powered it up before closing case.
I will make a recommendation to anyone selling their units with bad screen/digitizer. Do whatever you have to to wipe the device or change all your passwords. The unit I got powered up with ICS and had the pas owners pic and files on it. It even had a the lock screen pattern enabled. I did one quick swipe and it opened I was surprised he made it so simple?
I looked around to see if there was any files I thought he might need and I was going to email him a copy, since I had all his login info for his gmail. There was nothing, just lots of porn so I wiped it.
So in a quick answer it's just a swap and power up.

LOL, my wife was so freaked that the person sold his prime without wiping the data. I tried to explain to her that his digitizer/screen was bad so there was no easy way to do that.

Your best bet is to search ebay / amazon.. Motherboards are pretty hard to find as there are not a lot around. It took me a couple of days of consistently searching ebay to find one.

If you can't get into APX you might have other issues. MB are out there, not saying you will find tons nor everyday.

Need help with no signal!

I was running GE Rom 4.2.2 on my S4. Everything was great, until my girlfriend put my S4 in the washer with the clothes.. I let it sit in rice for a couple days and now everything works, except i have no signal at all. I have the circle with a line through it. I have tried multiple tutorials on how to possibly fix this issue but none have helped. I have been trying to go through asurion so I can get the replacement, but I don't have a printer at home to fill out the affidavit. Plus my work hours are crazy...Anyways does anyone know how to fix the signal issue?
Dude, if your signal is not working after putting your phone through the WASHING MACHINE, there's water damage to the phone. Unless you replace the motherboard in the phone, there's nothing you can do. Go to a library, print off the stuff you need, and get a new phone.

Wow! Why didn't I think of that?! Although your answer did not help me one bit I appreciate you throwing in your 2 cents. Maybe I work an upwards of 70 hours a week and usually during the day. Plus EVERYTHING else on the phone works, so why couldnt it be a simple software issue? Instead of telling me what I already know (need to get another phone), you could have nicely told me there isn't anything I can do. I apologize if this comes off as "a**holish" but you aren't helping, and instead just throwing out a random response. I was just looking for a part time solution until I do get my replacement as I NEED my phone for my job. Again thanks for at least replying.

What version of the GE edition rom are you running? I at one time ran it and had issues. Before you do anything else try flashing another ROM. Also you could try to get another Sim card. Besides that I would say let it sit in rice again.

You could try flashing back to stock that would/should eliminate software issues. If its a no go then I would say its hardware related.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
