couple noob questions - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just picked up the phone today. How do I find out what firmware the phone has? Also, some of these guides have a "home" button. Does the ATT / Tmobile version have a home button?

To find the firmware version you can go to settings-->about phone and check under "build number". The at&t/sprint/Tmobile variants have a capacitive home button but only the European version has a physical home button.

Thanks, I have rooted several other android phones (epic 4g, incredible, thunderbolt) but I am confused on this one. My build number is "gingerbread.eg30" I am not sure what insecure kernel I need to use. I have odin and super one click downloaded, just was not sure about what kernel

Eg30 is the sprint variant, you will have to check here. There is a specific section for it as none of the rooting procedures/kernels for the 19100 will work.

QUestion regarding about i9000 and T-mobile USA

I currently have a i-9000, the 3 button version in my hand.
I'm trying to use this for T-mobile.
Somehow, I was lucky to get 3 button PDA file for JFD.
I have been using it ever since for my t-mobile account,
however...
I'm in big urge to try the ROM.
I already have rooted and done several things with my brother's
vibrant version of Galaxy S, as there is many ROM's out there for it.
However, obviously, it is impossible to find ROM for I-9000 that is
designated for T-mobile U.S. version.
Is there anyway I can solve this problem..
I know that.. if I tried something like..
rooted i-9000 with any I-9000 rom on this forum won't work,
nor can I flash the modem file only after flashing ROM on the device.
What is possible solution?
My ultimate goal is to Froyo this i-9000 and use it as T-mobile USA.

If you have an I9000, then go to there section if you have a question about it.
I posted in the section as well.
Since its, somewhat T-mo related, as well as Galaxy S model,
I think its okay for me to ask a question in here, too.
Can you use Web2Go with the i9000?

Not really. If I had a question about the Optimus S, I wouldn't ask it on the Optimus T boards.

Kernal issue or ROM issue?

I have a Galaxy S2, I9100, original, I had the LoS Kernel from early on, and I have had recent troubles upgrading. I've upgraded to Dream Kernal, Siyah Kernal, and several other kernals. The phone boots when I load each individual rom, however, several services fails to load.
Am I missing something? I haven't updated this phone since it first came out, and after months of "update messages" from Sprint, I've decided to update it and I'm having difficulty. I've got CWM downloaded and I've used CWM to update each rom and kernel. If I could get some direction that'd be great. I just want the latest Android version and some type of superficial visual ROM ontop. I am generally very okay with each ROM, just upset that the current kernal leaves me with a failure of signal, causing me to reboot.
Update
I currently have Kernel version 3.043-rc1-Siyah-Dorimanx-V5.78-SGII-PWR-CORE and AOKP Version ThunderBolt Rom JB by ALHuessein Mohammed and Android version 4.1.1. . My Build is ThundrBolt by ALHussein Mohammed and I can't get any of my active services to work. Wifi doesn't work, sending texts doesnt work, surfing the internet doesn't work. Nothing. I get the phone to boot, but nothing comes of my boot. I have tried several different kernels, and different ROMs, but none of them seem to fix the issue of standard services working. I'd appreciate some help with the issues. My CWM version is 6.0.1.2-Siyah. I'm pretty confused on the whole matter.
As far as my knowledge goes, the Kernel is like the underlying infrastructure, and the ROM is like the OS. I don't really know what I've done to **** this **** up, but it's no longer functioning as a regular phone. I've used ODIN before, but seeing how I have CWM, I figured it wasn't required. Any help would be appreciated. Even setting my phone back to stock, since backing up my phone through CWM didn't actually do anything, since I can't restore back to my previous version.
I'm in dire need. Please assist.

So no one has any idea why my phone boots, but every active service fails to load? I guess I'll have to call this one a loss.

hey ma8 first and foremost u should have patience here on XDA.
bumping Post like this will lead u knowhere and people will simply ignore the same for sure
now coming back to ur issue what i would suggest u is this before jumping into kernel flashing thing have u checked in the ROM thread of the one ur using for what kernel people r using there r any kernel related post in that thread.
if not do the same first (search that thread for post that r similar to ur issues).
also u can try the latest Siyah kernel v4.1.5 and see

Several contradicting pieces of information here that I've bolded.
The I9100 is a GSM phone. Sprint is a CDMA network. The I9100 won't even work on Sprint's network.
When I google for "LoS kernel site:forum.xda-developers.com", the first result I get is for this, which is an Epic 4G Touch kernel.
These things tell me you are not in the correct forum for your device.
The Sprint variant for the Galaxy S2 is the Epic 4G Touch, and that forum is located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1281

Yeeeahh. I had searched Samsung Galaxy SII, and I was led here. I had forgotten that my particular phone was an Epic 4G Touch. Thanks for the direction.

Question about i9500 + i9505 roms for VZW GS4

Heres the story;
Had a i9500 and had omega rom on it and i LOVED it. This was a toy around phone though; wasn't used as my daily driver.
Sold the i9500 and i now have a VZW GS4 - Is there anyway i can flash omega rom to it? or is there an omega rom for it?
What i'm ultimately asking is can i flash 9505 or 9500 roms to it ? My apologies if this has been answered, i'm still just beginning the research into this.
Thanks
ive also been checking out this hyperdrive which looks pretty cool.. although i have one issue, i'm not rooted or have twrp installed. Can anyone point me in the direction of where to download the twrp recovery for the verizon gs4?
Essentially, the US variants are classified as i9505 versions (despite having different numbers). You can easily check this by downloading an app like CPU/RAM/DEVICE Identifier and seeing what version of the CPU you have. Then go to Wikipedia and check for Galaxy S4, and on the right you'll see 3 versions, the second (i9505), should be your version.
Start here for rooting and recovery. If you DO NOT have the older Verizon build number (check in About Phone), then use the other guide in the warning section listed there for the newer build. For custom recovery involving TWRP, there is a link at the bottom of the first post. However, I was having major issues just trying to get it on, so I opted for the Clockwork Recovery mod (they have a touch interface if you donate).

Alright just got my VZW S4 - Its the VRUAME7 version out of the box :/ i noticed the other root method shows a video in which he says you cannot flash custom roms?
Unfortunately, this is true. You can root and get custom recovery, but not ROM at the moment. SafeStrap is still in development for ME7, so hopefully they will get custom ROMs working on that build.

When you say "out of the box" did you have it activated? Also, did you buy in a brick and mortar store or online?
I am going to be buying an unactivated S4 from Bestbuy for Verizon and every one I have looked at is the MDE build, which I think is an older build than the MDK build (still trying to confirm this...)

[Q] Help please - which model 5.0 do I have, what is latest ROM?

Hi all,
I have an 8GB YP-G70. It's been rooted - when I first got it, I was going to use Titanium - but then my wife wanted it, so I gave it to her and forgot about it. Now she's got a new phone and I can't find the tools I used to root it or any of my notes, I must have erased the folder.
I know I bought it from Woot. If I recall, it was not actually a US version? Kies says it's got the latest firmware but I'm not sure it checks the firmware if the device is rooted.
It has the hard button for the home key.
I'd like to know what is the latest stock ROM I can use, I want the camera and everything else to work. Any help is appreciated.
It has:
Firmware version
2.2.2
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
[email protected] #1
Build number
FROYO.XXKD6
I believe you have the INTL model.
CM 10.2.

Thank you, that was it. I was able to update to 2.3.6 using Odin.
In case someone else gets one and they don't know the difference, the international version has a physical home button and the US version has a capacitive (touchscreen) home button.

Without knowing the carrier and update the phone is on, we're flying blind trying to help. Xposed is a special app, and not the rom itself. Please go to Settings > About Phone > Software Info and let us know the Build Version and original carrier (or if it is an unlocked International model).

Gotcha. Alright, well in my experience, the ARHD series of roms are pretty solid, but if you want to get back to stock then you will need to use the RUU from EE. You should be able to find everything you need from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082
