It's most likely out of respect for Steve Jobs.
I honestly doubt Google is shallow enough to release a phone on his funeral date, Apple on the other hand..... they're still taking pre-orders, doesn't shock me much though, he resigned as CEO and they are having celebrations at ALL Apple stores to honor him.

That was my thought as well, though I didn't realize that was the funeral date. The announcement was short and somber.

i dont see how its disrespectful to have the announcement ontime but thats just me

HTC bypasses apple patents and will start in 2012 despite verdict

http://www.slashgear.com/htc-bypasses-apple-patent-ire-for-2012-android-range-27167647/
Whether HTC shares this or not someone should get a patent on the new way found to avoid a run up of this. As much as I like the apple products they are becoming a bully which is just sad.

This. It's just that up until recently they were neither big enough nor relevant enough to matter. Jobs is just being jobs as always... Unfortunately now he has the money and influence to be more than a just a sideshow to the technology industry... A zany footnote in computer history..... Now he's just acting like an extremely selfish only child.

Considering Apple, Inc. was on the verge of folding just a few short years ago, I'm really surprised by the turn that Apple's made.
/sarcasm
Every company forgets where they were and how far they've come. Take HTC as an example; they just about did it. They went from a company that embraced the developers and then, in a few short years, turned around and locked down their bootloaders.
Without social media outlets such as facebook, I highly doubt they would have reversed their decision to maintain locked bootloaders.
Apple needs the same kind of treatment to be reminded that the mass majority of users out there do not support their products (Android phones are outselling the iPhone, Android tablets have eaten into almost a third of the iPad market, and Macs still don't have nearly the same level of market penetration into the desktop/laptop sectors).

Uhh, yeah. Good luck with that. While I agree whole heartedly apple fans are nowhere near as brand agnostic as, well, anyone else. Drank the koolaide, etc etc etc.
In a recent poll of 4000 consumers 35% said they wanted an iphone 5, even knowing nothing about it.

WHAAAAAT !!!no dude !
UPDATE: Although some websites are reporting that the event is now set for 27 October in London, Pocket-lint can confirm that this is not happening either. Sorry.
Neither Samsung nor Google has decided on a new date or location for the Nexus Prime launch yet.
Update: "A Samsung spokesperson issued a follow up statement to CNET, confirming speculation that the reveal was postponed out of respect, following the passing of Steve Jobs. "We believe this is not the right time to announce a new product as the world expresses tribute to Steve Jobs's passing," the spokesperson explained." - nice step.
Any ways it will be wise to wait for ICS to be launched for GS2 because this phone really costs too much
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
They are waiting for sales on Tmobile USA version of Galaxy S2. That thing is not enough out yet.
id wait if i was you.....your phone is good enough and probs better than most of the handsets out there as it is....come on now you should know better that this phone has the best support by devs so far...and it will stay like that till the new s3 comes out IMO..
so id wait and enjoy your phone and im sure devs will be porting over the ICS once its leaked
without wishing to be disrespectful but why postpone an event because of steve jobs? Getting seriously pissed off with this now. You'd think Mandela had died or something.
Would Nissan delay launching a new car because the head of ford died? Bloody ridiculous!

Cancelled by Prime Order. Gonna wait for the TP TF700T

The Transformer Prime TF700T will likely be the first tablet released to sport a 2.3-million-pixel, 1,920x1,200 screen. For those keeping count, that's more than twice the pixel count of any previous tablets, which top out at 1,280x800 (1.02 millions pixels). No release date but I think its worth the wait.

I'm going to go take a dump. After that, I'm going to eat my yogurt for breakfast. Then I'll probably work on some press releases that I need to get written.
Beats me why anyone is still considering buying Asus after the disregard they have so blatently shown for their customers.
I'll never purchase or allow to come into my home, another Asus product. There are plenty of other company's out there who haven't yet purposefully shafted their customer base.
Thanks for the info. Ill update my dkb218 fansite now.

And they should care about the opinions of someone who will never buy their products again?
It's kinda ironic though that the Transformers are the best software-supported tablets out there. Constant updates and usually among the first to get the latest.
Now that's...Mean.
Wait. I take it you're the early adapters who got stuck with the OLD version and are acting like you're on the rag because I posted this. Damn. Oh well.
Don't take in out on me little girle men. Call Asus and level a grip at them.
What else did I do today, you ask? I didn't by a Transformer Prime! HA, ha hardy har har!
and then you'll be waiting after that when someone brings out an even snazzier toy.
at what point will you actually stop and buy?
TF700 is slated Q2 which if normal release cycles are anything to go by will be the back end of that quarter and that will be provided there are no delays. they have to be able to produce a 600+ nits screen that can do full HD on mass production levels and hope they don't encounter any other problems.
then you have have whether or not ICS will cope with a full HD screen on normal day to day use, will apps? will ICS need tweaking to work properly? will tegra 3 be able to handle full HD res without dragging its ass like a dog.
I'm buying the prime now, with a weather eye on the TF700 down the line. no reason to deny myself in the meantime. play with the prime. sell it six to seven months down the line and get the newer model sounds like a plan to me.

Finally Apple Losses at something!!

http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/03/motorola-wins-permanent-injunction-against-apples-icloud-in-ger/
gotta love this part:
Citing a statement from Apple, Germany's Deutsche Presse-Agentur news agency is now reporting that the company has pulled the iPhone 3G, the iPhone 3GS, and the iPhone 4 from its German online store, along with any 3G/UMTS-enabled iPads. The move appears to come in response not to today's ruling, but to a decision issued in December, when Motorola won an injunction against Apple, on the grounds that its 3G/UMTS technology infringes upon one of Moto's European patents. According to FOSS Patents, Apple presumably lost its appeal to the Karlsruhe Higher Regional Court, after Motorola sought to enforce the injunction.

Given that there's been more Android phones sold and used total than iPhones...Apple has been losing for a long time.

**** apple.
word up!!!!! *** APPLE! i used apple until the 3gs. and been android ever since and love it, and now with ICS coming out it just seals the deal. i have ICS on my xoom and the battery lasts for ever.
and i hate how apple sells a new device that looks the same as the last model.

Official Google event tomorrow evening in NY

A number of blogs/tech sites are saying invitations have been sent out for a "Google Play" event in New York tomorrow (24th October) at 19.00hrs local time (0:00hrs 25th October BST (UK time)). That part seems to be definite.
Tech Radar say that they were told by Google it was just a meet & greet event, so no launches. But what some others are saying is that Kitkat 4.4, Nexus 5 & Nexus 10 2 might be launched at this event. Kitkat I think is an outside possibility, Nexus 5 & Nexus 10 2 not so much.
So far we have only rumours/speculation as to when these products (& OS) might be launched. I'm not stating this as gospel. But I thought it worth posting just in case even if it is only for Kitkat. And people would at least be forewarned in case they live stream it.

Sorry but these websites (IBTimes, Christian Post, etc) it's referring to are little better than a webcrawler putting together information that looks kind of like an article. They frequently just make up random crap to get clicks for their site and vicariously, ads. I would wait for a site such as android central or droid life to make some kind of announcement. As of right now, all official information is that the event will feature no news at all, and is just a small get together.

Oh there's nothing wrong with that. I'm doing the same thing. I wish they'd turn around and say "psych! Everything will will be there! But I don't see them doing that.
Now that Apple has released the iPad Air, it puts them on the defensive end though. The more time that passes, the more likely people will overlook the Nexus 10. I'm not entirely sure Google cares though. They've already infiltrated the Apple ecosystem with most of their apps. Google's strategy is certainly one of slow, constant persistence. These tablets and phones are a kickback to people who support them I think, not a direct competitor with any other brands tablets. That's how it seems to me anyways.
Hopefully they don't keep us waiting too long. I sold the N10 in anticipation for this, and I've been waiting patiently for a while now. Come on Google.... don't wander into the world of Valve time....
We;; is 8:38 and no news about the event. It hasn't been streamed on youtube like other times and thers no updated blog about it either. Also theres been lots of errors with google services today? Coincidence? or could they have had some issues? Hopefully we'll know what went on in the conference by tomorrow but it most likely wan't any of the devices since it wasn't public.
Very suspicious that we've heard nothing I think.
I wonder if they did something huge and its all under embargo until a certain time?
