When you upgraded did you update the Su binary? If not open superuser app...
hit the menu button : Preferences : Superuser Information : Su binary v3.0 (Tap to check for updates)
Then you should be gold.

That is what I did, but it did not like that. Oh well, saw Eclipse 1.1 just came out, was waiting for that so I'll be flashing that before worrying about SU. If it happens in Eclipse I'll try wiping the su data also.
Thanks guys,
Ry

Did you update to the newest version in the market? then update the binaries.

The thing is, my ROM is already rooted, and even if i choose to add root permission on kitchen the result is still the same.

Go. To super user and check all settings.

Still no feedback. Does checking the options in superuser solves the problem?
I tried to check all options and still nothing.
I also tried to update binaries and it says: gaining root access... fail!
Tryed to copy superuser, su, busybox from another custom rom and problem remains.
I have no solution yet.
Find su in flashable form and flash after you flash the rom.
Did you mess with the update-script at all?

nope... i just debloated the rom, added root and busybox and compiled the rom.
its not the point to flash the superuser after flashing the rom. I want to learn how to cook some roms.

Instead of using a backup, find a proper base, like a stock rom, or just download a fresh copy of whatever rom you are using and use that as a base
What device are you trying to cook for?
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt
I am using latest RUU for the Sensation. Itd a kraj from HTC. All of the ROMs are builded from that base
I'm also having the same problem. I used the stock hero s ruu. Debloated, added root and busy box. I'm being told I don't have root access though. When I go to superuser and try to update binaries it sits at getting root access and fails. I can't run any other apps that need super user either.

This version of Liberated 2.2.2 should work in CWM 5 --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970272
Thanks a lot drumist!
That ROM does not include WiFi hotspot or tethering, am I right? It would still be nice to be able to downgrade so we can reinstall FR008?

It supports both. I don't think there is anything in FR008 that is missing from Liberated 2.2.2, and Liberated 2.2.2 is based on a slightly newer version of Android.
That said, it's definitely possible and easy to downgrade your CWM version.

That Liberated 2.2.2 also seems to have the "AT&T" in the notification area still, and issues with Bluetooth?

[Q] How do I root without ruining OTA/Kies updates?

Hey guys,
I am interesting in rooting my Galaxy S2, as I want to use an app that requires root access. It is completely untouched in that it is not running any custom ROMs, kernels, recoveries, etc. It is in the exact same state it came out of the box, except for the official 4.0.3 update that was distributed via Kies earlier in the year.
What I would like to do is root the phone without ruining OTA/Kies updates, especially since official Jelly Bean has been confirmed. As far as I am aware that means I can't using a custom recovery method such as clockwork mod. I do not want to flash a new ROM as I am 100% not confident with doing this.
What I want to know then is if there is a way to root the phone whilst maintaining the ability to update via Kies/OTA. I remember using an app called Universal Androot to root my old Moto Flipout, perhaps there is something similar for me now?
Cheers in advance!!
EDIT:
Android version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: I9100NELP4
Kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLPI-CL686447 [email protected] #3
Build number: IM74K.XWLPI

I'm looking at that first method in the first link (the one that relies on busybox and superoneclick). It appeals to me because it leaves my kernel and recovery untouched. That should allow me to update to official Jelly Bean via Kies/OTA, right? Sorry for all the questions, I'm afraid I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to these sorts of things.

The methods in both links will not change your Kernel. So you can just the easiest method.
They will allow you to update when update is available

The easiest way
Because you have stock firmware the easiest way is two use philz kernel its stock based kernel that has more futures than the stock kernel and it automatticly roots your phone. Follow this steps.
1. Download the zip from this link http://www.mediafire.com/?rsfvtscivibt49n
2. After downloading transfer the zip to your "SD card"(not the internal memory) of the phone
3. power off the phone
4. go to recovery by holding the power button, the volume up button, and the home button until the kernel menu comes out
5. Wipe chache
6.choose install from sd card or apply from sd card
7. choose the zip you transfered
8. after installing wipe the chache one more time and reboot the device
now you will se superuser app in the menu. Try going to the recovery and see your new kernel
Does this work with 4.1.2 stock jellybean? (XWLSD)
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
1. go to and download http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1534485&d=1354579840
2. place zip on externalSD
3. boot into stock recovery
4. Flash zip from externalSd
5. select Root_SuperSU.0.98.Only-signed.zip and you should be rooted,
this works on both ics roms and jellybean.
this just flashed the supersu app and the superuser binaries
so this shouldnt mess up the ota or kies.
hope it helps mate

Help with root

I upgraded my boot loader to 1.58 a while back so i could run a rom. I flashed back to 1.50 last night and flashed Negalites rom. I am having problems with a few apps that require root access. I upgraded my root user app and it fails every time. My question is did i lose my root when i downgraded? I have been rooted with revolutionary since it came out and am still s-off.What do i need to do to get root back. Thanks in advance.
Which version of the ROM do you have? The latest version is 3.9.
Adjusting hboots doesn't affect having root, so maybe it's a bad flash. I know 3.8 of that ROM had issues (Negamann even said he was embarrassed by it) which is why I suggest upgrading to 3.9.

I have 3.8 thanks for the info. I will upgrade to 3.9 and see what happens.
Does anyone have a link to download 3.9. I can't find it and the app on the rom says no update.
